Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Today is Transgender Equality Lobby Day in Massachusetts

by: Louise

Tue Apr 07, 2009 at 08:59:49 AM EDT

Alot of stuff going on in New England this week, as we play "catch up" with Iowa... my apologies for not getting this info out sooner.

But this is Transgender Equality Lobby Day, with the following planned from 10am to 1pm today at the Statehouse in Boston:

Tuesday April 7

10 am - 1 pm, MA Statehouse, Grand Staircase

Join with us as we speak with our legislators about "An Act Relative to Gender-Based Discrimination and Hate Crimes."

They need to meet us and hear about the experiences that transgender people, family, friends, and allies face in the absence of statewide laws affirming the right to freedom of gender identity and gender expression.

To kick off the lobby day at 10 am there will be a panel of speakers including policy makers, transgender people, and family members; light refreshments; and a short lobbying training. All the necessary materials and handouts will be provided.

For more information or assistance with locating your legislators contact MTPC at info@masstpc.org or 617-778-0519.

From MPTC:

No one deserves to be fired, refused work, denied housing, education or credit, or suffer harassment or violence just because of who they are -- but transgender and gender non-conforming people in Massachusetts routinely face all of these for transitioning from one sex to another, or simply for defying expectations of what a "normal" man or woman looks like.

From 2002-2006, transgender victims of hate crimes comprised over 6.3% of the total number of anti-LGBT hate crime victims -- a number completely disproportionate to their actual population. In the Greater Boston area, a 2006 survey found that fewer than 25% of transgender women were employed full-time, only 20% held part-time employment, and 55% had been homeless at some point. Transgender people in Massachusetts have reported losing their jobs, being harassed by landlords, feeling unsafe in their own schools and even being turned away from local emergency rooms.

Nationwide, 13 states, Washington D.C., and at least 102 counties and cities have passed legislation to ban this discrimination in their communities -- including Boston, Cambridge and Northampton.

"An Act Relative to Gender-Based Discrimination and Hate Crimes" has been re-introduced for the 2009 legislative session in the House by Representative Carl Sciortino and Representative Byron Rushing (HB 1728) and in the Senate by Senator Benjamin Downing.

This bill will make explicit the Commonwealth's commitment to providing people of diverse gender identities and expressions equal protection under the law, and guarantee transgender and gender non-conforming people the opportunity to contribute to their communities and to the local economy. It sends a clear message that everyone should be able to work, go to school, and live without fear in Massachusetts.

The Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition applauds the many policy makers who support "An Act Relative to Gender-Based Discrimination and Hate Crimes" including:

Governor Deval Patrick
State Attorney General Martha Coakley
Congressman Barney Frank
Suffolk County Sheriff Andrea Cabral
Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino
Cambridge Mayor Denise Simmons
Northampton Mayor Clare Higgins
Boston City Council President Maureen Feeney

Best of luck to lobby day participants
It floors me that we are still fighting for laws that say that it is not okay to fire folks for characteristics that have nothing to do with job performance.  Best of luck to all those who will be pressing for common sense in MA today.

Legal protections are long overdue
Legal protections against discrimination for gender nonconforming people are way past due in Massachusetts.  I fervently pray their legislature will see this truth and act on it immediately.  I also am grateful for all of the GLB members of our community that is helping their trans brothers and sisters in this fight.  THANK YOU!

We're not doing well on this front
Same-sex marriage has had a number of victories, and we should be celebrating them. Amidst the celebrations though, let's spare a thought for our losses. Because we've had an unbroken string recently.

Gainesville, a "progressive" place if ever there was one, we managed to score a draw there. We kept what we'd already won, but by a narrow margin, 58:42. Had the "bathroom issue" not been raised, it would have been 80:20 or 90:10. This should have been a wake-up call.

Hamtramck, Michigan. We lost existing rights there.

Rapid city - an 8:2 loss.

North Dakota- no rights for TGs there this year, because it's been labelled a "bathroom bill".

New Hampshire - we're having a second go, but it was rejected the first time round as a "bathroom bill".

The way things are going, we will soon have a majority of states where married gays are allowed to fire transgendered people for being TG. There's a significant minority of GLB people who would be just fine with that, and actually prefer it to having equal rights.

Oh yes, and Alberta, Canada, has just dropped its long-standing coverage of SRS operations, as had Blue Cross in Michigan. While same-sex marriage is progressing, TG rights have had draws or defeats, some of them massive. The Alberta and Blue Cross decisions have cost lives already.

There is no situation so complex it can't get even worse

Some better, some worse...

But I agree, trans is not doing so well.

And, the crossdressed/transgender bathroom predator meme -- a deceptive factiod promogated by conservative "Christians" -- has a lot to do with this.

That sickens me

I really, REALLY wish that weren't the case. It makes me so fucking sick and scared because I know you're right.

Deval Patrick has been a pretty staunch ally for the LGBT community. It's good to see his name on that list.

God save ornery old queens! - kevinchi
