The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

National Organization for Marriage's new tactic: fear-mongering without using the word 'religion'

by: Pam Spaulding

Wed Apr 08, 2009 at 10:15:00 AM EDT

(UPDATE: Ha! Check out Jeremy's video response at Good As You. He blasts it lie by lie.)

(UPDATE 2: HRC hits back in a press release featuring links to the audition reels of the actors used in NOM's ridiculous ad; it's below the fold.)

(UPDATE 3: One Iowa has a petition up -- opposing the use of out-of-state money to attack the rights of Iowans at http://eqfed.org/campaign/marr... . I've switched the video to their link to drive the traffic there.)

These folks have nothing left in the tool box after the Iowa ruling decimated the excuse that religious opposition should govern civil law. So now the folks at the National Organization for Marriage have decided to send out e-blasts and a new video that uses a multi-racial set of actors to portray the aggrieved heterosexuals affected by same-sex couples being allowed to marry.

You might laugh at these fundnuts, but they are crafty, and don't mind continuing to promote outright lies and deception, as you will see below, to make their point to less-informed people out there.

  • There's a storm gathering...
  • The clouds are dark, the wind is strong...
  • And I am afraid...
  • Some who advocate for same-sex marriage are taking the issue far beyond same-sex couples...
  • They want to bring the issue into my life...
  • My freedom will be taken away...
  • I'm a California doctor who must choose between my faith and my job...
  • I'm part of a NJ church group punished by the government because we can't support same-sex marriage...
  • I'm a Massachusetts parent helplessly watching public schools teach my son that gay marriage is OK...
  • But some who advocate for same-sex marriage have not been content with same-sex couples living as they wish...
  • Those advocates want to change the way I live...
  • I will have no choice...
  • The storm is coming...
Damon Owens (of NOM): But we have hope...a rainbow coalition of people of every creed and color are coming together in love to protect marriage. Visit Nation for Marriage.org. Join us.
As Right Wing Watch and TipsQ note, the e-blast from NOM's Brian Brown is straining to make this a civil rights issue for the persecuted "Christians" without bringing up religion - check out "undermines the core civil rights."
By only one vote, the Vermont House just voted to override Governor Douglas's veto, overturning the common sense definition of marriage shared by people of diverse faiths, backgrounds, nations, and political parties. Today is truly a sad day for Vermont and this nation.

But we take heart in knowing that this vote was not representative of what Vermonters understand marriage to be. We know that the Vermont Legislature did everything in its power to avoid allowing Vermonters to vote directly on the future of marriage.

In the wake of the Iowa Supreme Court decision and Vermont Legislature's action, the National Organization for Marriage will tomorrow launch a new national ad campaign that highlights how same-sex marriage undermines the core civil rights of those who believe in the simple truth that marriage is the union of one man and one woman.

Today is indeed a sad day, but let all of us who understand that marriage is the union of a husband and wife redouble our commitment to ensuring that same-sex marriage does not spread throughout our nation, that religious liberty is protected, and ultimately that marriage is restored in these states as well for the sake of our children and grandchildren.

God bless,

That is some seriously preposterous language. They realize that the beautifully written Iowa decision destroyed the religion argument. This just sounds desperate. Exactly what "core right" is Brian talking about? He's going to have to bring up r-e-l-i-g-i-o-n at some point, just so it can be blow away yet again.

HRC's rebuttal just landed in my inbox:
Human Rights Campaign Exposes National Organization for Marriage's Fake Ad for Fake Problems

Right-wing group does not have truth on its side, so it hires actors to spew lies; Audition reel uncovered online

The Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, released a statement and a factual rebuttal today on a television spot produced by the National Organization for Marriage and set to run on CNN, the Fox News Channel, and MSNBC in the coming days. In the ad, actors make disproven claims about marriage for lesbian and gay couples.

"What's next for the National Organization for Marriage? Will they hire legendary infomercial pitchman Ron Popeil to hawk their phony agenda?" said Human Rights Campaign Spokesman Brad Luna.  "This ad is full of outrageous falsehoods-and they don't even come out of the mouths of real people."

According to sources, the phony ad is set to run eight times per day in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island and California. The ad can be viewed here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

The National Organization for Marriage hired actors to peddle their lies about marriage for lesbian and gay couples. The audition reels can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

The National Organization for Marriage and Maggie Gallagher is featured on the interactive wall of EndtheLies.org, a new HRC action-based website launched to confront the lies and distortions repeatedly used to defeat LGBT equality measures. National Organization for Marriage was added to the wall after the group created an anti- marriage equality radio ad that played in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

"Again and again, opponents of equality have claimed one shallow victory after another by telling lies about who we are as individuals, as loving couples and as families. These lies must be called out for what they are every time the right-wing seeks to derail our progress by spreading distortions and inciting fear mongering," continued Luna.

EndtheLies.org's interactive wall features videos, audio, pictures, and quotes, calling out those who maliciously use lies and misinformation to interfere with the LGBT community's path to equality. By clicking on the panels of the wall, users can access more information about those highlighted, watch videos, add comments on multimedia discussion boards, and learn how to take action to counteract their misdeeds.

Along with the National Organization for Marriage, the wall currently features the American Family Association (AFA), the elders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Oklahoma State Representative Sally Kern, and Utah State Senator Chris Buttars, Proposition 8 lawyer Ken Starr, right-wing media personality Rush Limbaugh, and GOP Chairman Michael Steele. Users can also nominate their own candidates for inclusion on the wall.

Background Ad Rebuttal

"The Real Truth Behind the Fake Ad"

The general argument of the ad is that the push for marriage equality isn't just about rights for same-sex couples, it's about imposing contrary values on people of faith.  The examples they cite in the ad are:

(1)   A California doctor who must choose between her faith and her job

(2)   A member of New Jersey church group which is punished by the state because they can't support same-sex marriage

(3)   A Massachusetts parent who stands by helpless while the state teaches her son that gay marriage is okay

The facts indicate that (1) refers to the Benitez decision in California, determining that a doctor cannot violate California anti-discrimination law by refusing to treat a lesbian based on religious belief, (2) refers to the Ocean Grove, New Jersey Methodist pavilion that was open to the general public for events but refused access for civil union ceremonies (and was fined by the state for doing so) and (3) refers to the Parker decision in Massachusetts, where parents unsuccessfully sought to end public school discussions of family diversity, including of same-sex couples.

All three examples involve religious people who enter the public sphere, but don't want to abide by the general non-discriminatory rules everyone else does.  Both (1) and (2) are really about state laws against sexual orientation discrimination, rather than specifically about marriage.  And (3) is about two pairs of religious parents trying to impose their beliefs on all children in public schools.

The real facts of each case are:

·         The California doctor entered a profession that promises to "first, do no harm" and the law requires her to treat a patient in need - gay or straight, Christian or Muslim - regardless of her religious beliefs.  The law does not, and cannot, dictate her faith - it can only insist that she follow her oath as a medical professional.

·         The New Jersey church group runs, and profits from, a beachside pavilion that it rents out to the general public for all manner of occasions concerts, debates and even Civil War reenactments but balks at permitting couples to hold civil union ceremonies there.  The law does not challenge  the church organization's beliefs about homosexuality - it merely requires that a pavilion that had been open to all for years comply with laws protecting everyone from discrimination, including gays and lesbians.

·         The Massachusetts parent disagrees with an aspect of her son's public education, a discussion of the many different kinds of families he will likely encounter in life, including gay and lesbian couples.  The law does not stop her from disagreeing, from teaching him consistently with her differing beliefs at home, or even educating her child in a setting that is more in line with her faith traditions.  But it does not allow any one parent to dictate the curriculum for all students based on her family's religious traditions.

I haven't watched the video yet
However, I wanted to make this point: the VT legislature didn't override the Governor's veto by 1 vote, it was overturned by 2/3rds of the House and the Senate.

They should get it right, but then again, they don't care about the truth.

it was BARELY a supermajority
and, if you want to get technical, it was only vetoed by one vote (the Governor's) in the first place.

The Iowa decision was only one vote away from not being unanimous.

And this type of reasoning is only one misleading point away from being valid.

Those black-robed thugs!
Non unanimous by one vote! Otherwise, it would only have been 6 to 1. Damn that single vote!

This type of reasoning is, unfortunately, very seductive until you start to apply THOUGHT and LOGIC to it. Then it just falls apart completely and makes the speaker look like a fool.

But our opponents are masters at keeping their followers from free thought and logic.

Well the video is Great.
It reeks of the same old regurgitated garbage they have been using.  The Doctor does mention Faith which is Religion and it ties the whole chunk of lies together.

I am not even finished with my first cup of tea and I can tell you this, The sheeple who will see this will get the feeling that the organization that sent this out begging for money is weak.

Hey Doc, don't practice medicine where your Faith gets in the way.  I have tried to figure out what part of medicine you must work in where same-sex marriage would get in the way, and I come up with a Fertilization Clinic.  And it would be you, Doctor, who would be a Bigot to deny a Lesbian in vitro fertilization.  But then again, Doctor, you would also be a hypocrite as you are denying a life.

And WTF is this CHOICE stuff?  I like it.  They are now advocating for CHOICE.

And the dude being punished in his church by the government?  How?  Every length has been taken to make sure you don't have to perform same-sex marriages.

This Video is great.  It spread no fear that will get the sheeple to come off of their money.

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

One of their "stories"
They tell it over and over again, always misleading, always failing to tell the whole truth.

A NJ church lost it's tax exempt status for refusing to marry a lesbian couple! Gasp!

Only they didn't. They lost tax exemption for a building and a parcel of land they were renting out on a commercial basis, and they were specifically required to use it as a "public accommodation". When they discriminated, they got slapped down for it. It's a church, not a property management company. If they want to be a property management company, they can do it on the same basis as every other property management company.

Cause any fool knows, a dog needs a home; a shelter from pigs on the wing

[ Parent ]
thank you--I didn't understand
what they were talking about with that California doctor.

But that isn't related to gay marriage, because a lesbian doesn't have to be married to get in vitro.

Can anyone else figure out what lie this video is trying to spread about a so-called infringement on doctors' rights?

[ Parent ]
It also went on about the right of consious,
which has nothing to do with marriage equality.  The main point of their argument is that Teh Gay are ruining their right to religious freedom.  The line to religious freedom is being drawn, and they don't like it.

You have to keep in mind, they want to replace the constitution with the bible.  And if they get enough people to believe the constitution has become a worthless piece of paper, the next step for a civilized civilization would be biblical law. (NOTE this is their belief, not mine)

Who cares that birth control pills are used more today to regulate a woman's period, than it is for preventing babies being born.  But try to explain that to a fundie is like teaching a pig to sing.

Truth has no part of the equation for them. The Ends justifies the Means.

If it is one thing I learned from my attorney is how to think like the opposition and be able to read where they are taking a certain point.  When they become scattered, it means you have hit there final direction head on.

Fact.  The right of conscience is being disabled by President Obama and has nothing to do with Same-Sex Marriage.  But the fundies decided to link it to Same-sex Marriage because they have no other basis to deny the right of every citizen, including LGBT people.

Fact.  The religious right does not want to educate their beloved and gullible followers to how the tax exempt status works.  Although the religious right has lawyers telling them how far they can legally push the envelope.  Through out the whole NJ ocean front pavilion lawsuit, the religious right tried to hide the fact that the use of the facility was a commercial enterprise of the church to earn a profit.  They tried to hide the fact that they received special permitting and the only way was through a public use.

Fact.  As you said, a fertility clinic has nothing to do with same-sex couples.  The case involved was a religious school that received tax dollars via a tax exemption as they claimed they would be serving the public.

As I pointed out in another post, the number of people claiming to be religious or christian is dropping.  Their members and followers with half a lick of sense have tried to tell them to kncok off the lying and blame of everything bad on Teh Gays.   They didn't listen and will refuse to.  It come with the superior Fundie mindset that they have two rules.

#1 We are always right.

#2 If we are wrong, see rule #1

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

Um, wingnuts, get it right...
..witness the town in I think it was Oregon where a bunch of Moonies moved to, enmasse, and then had the votes to elect their own people to the town's elected offices and so took over the town govt.

Those were not "Moonies", they were "Rashneesh". A different cult altogether. Their claims to fame were wearing red clothes, lots of free NSA sex, their dear leader's Rolls Royce collection, and believing that the plague of AIDS would destroy the human race by the year 2000.

The MOONIES, on the other hand, are on YOUR side, you blithering idiot. Haven't you ever read the Washington Times? Do you think wingnut welfare grows on trees? So don't be dissin' Rev Moon, King of the World[tm].

They didn't mention the word, religion, but the imagery is unmistakable.

What a load of crap...
First off, the guy saying "They want to bring the issue into my life" is clearly in-the-closet. Too funny.

"My freedom will be taken away." So they won't be able to marry someone of the opposite sex? Shocking!

So now traditional marriage is now a core civil right? Where exactly is that written?

"...simple truth that marriage is the union of one man and one woman." Again, men and women can STILL get married. I like how they keep implying that traditional marriage will somehow be destroyed by gay marriage.

can't believe they stole "rainbow coalition".
i wonder which of the "every race and creed" will be pissed to hell about that appropriation by whitey, lol.

and "creed" = religion, so they're still using that argument, just couching the term more deeply. but no fundie watching that would miss the message.

Latest e-screed by Brian Brown of NOM...
NOM Launches Nationwide "Two Million for Marriage" Initiative!

April 8, 2009

Dear Karen,

In just a few minutes, NOM President Maggie Gallagher and I will hold a press conference in Trenton, NJ, announcing an ambitious new nationwide "2 Million for Marriage" (2M4M) initiative.

Over the next two years, we will be organizing two million marriage activists from every state in the nation to form an online army of marriage activists willing to stand up for marriage on a moment's notice, sending emails and making phone calls to legislators whenever marriage is threatened.

The initiative represents the most ambitious effort ever of its kind, using a combination traditional TV and radio advertising and direct mail, coupled with the internet technology and social networking tools that President Obama used so effectively in his presidential campaign.  To assist with this ambitious new initiative, we've enlisted the expertise of Schubert Flint Public Affairs -- the same group that managed the Prop 8 Campaign in California last year.

"A Gathering Storm"
The centerpiece of the new initiative is a $1.5 million nationwide ad campaign launched today highlighting the threat that same-sex marriage poses to the core civil rights of all Americans who believe in marriage as the union of a husband and wife.

Please take a minute today to watch our new "Gathering Storm" TV ad.  (Click here or on the ad below to watch.)

The ad begins airing today in selected markets all across the country, and I'm convinced it will be an important tool in helping to awaken Americans to some of the threats posed by same-sex marriage.

Here's the question I hear over and over again as I participate in debates and interviews on same-sex marriage: How does same-sex marriage hurt you?

And here are the answers of everyday Americans who have felt the impact of same-sex marriage:

"I'm a California doctor who must choose between my faith and my job."

"I'm part of a New Jersey church group punished by the government because we can't support same-sex marriage."

"I am a Massachusetts parent helplessly watching public schools teach my son that gay marriage is OK."

Help make "2 Million for Marriage" a Reality!
We're excited about our new marriage activist initiative, and the potential it has to bring together an unstoppable team of marriage activists who can really make a difference in marriage battles across the nation. But we can't do it alone.

Tell a friend. Perhaps the most important part of this effort is the word-of-mouth recommendation you give your friends and family. If each of us recruits 5 people to join our Marriage Activist Team, we'll be well on our way to our goal of 2 million activists by the end of 2010. Remind your friends that it doesn't cost them anything -- we're simply looking for people willing to be notified of the latest marriage threats, and then take 3-5 minutes in order to send an email to their elected officials. Click here to forward this message to as many as 20 friends!

Ask them to visit www.nationformarriage.org and enter their email address in the box to Sign Up for e-Alerts to join our Marriage Activist Team today!

Online Social Networking. For those of you who are already online with social networking tools such as Facebook, Myspace or Twitter -- use those networks to invite your friends to join our 2 Million for Marriage initiative. And if you haven't yet visited NOM's Facebook page, do it today to receive the latest NOM updates and alerts via Facebook.

Help support the "Gathering Storm" TV Ad Campaign. We're also working to raise funds needed to expand our initial TV ad buy into more time slots and additional markets. Each airing of the ad on cable TV costs about $1,000. Some of you may be in a position to sponsor an entire ad. Perhaps others can sponsor part of an ad -- or better yet, team up with friends or family to sponsor an ad together. Use this link to sponsor a "Gathering Storm" TV ad today!

Today is a brand new day for the future of marriage!

2 million?
That's less than 1% of the population.  They keep screaming that we don't deserve civil equality because we're a mere 2% (according to them).  So where the hell do they get the nerve to argue that less than 1% should have the power to deprive us of our rights?

The American people, taking one with another, are the most timorous, sniveling, poltroonish, ignominious mob of serfs and goose-steppers ever gathered under one flag in Christendom since the end of the Middle Ages.

Dive into de-bunkers!
This is the same list of lies used by my local Focus on the Anus/ADF affiliate.  I think a memo has been circulated. I've already shone the light of truth on them here, but it never hurts to repeat the truth.  See my original post for relevant links.
  • I'm a California doctor who must choose between my faith and my job...
This has nothing to do with marriage.  Although Mr. Backholm doesn't name the case he references, the California Supreme Court ruled last year that a scenario such as he describes would be in contempt of state non-discrimination law.  These people are lamenting that they can no longer legally discriminate against gays in health care and related services.

  • I'm part of a NJ church group punished by the government because we can't support same-sex marriage...
The Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association is not a church, as Mr. Backholm misstates, but is a religious ministry.  It owns "seaside land that includes a boardwalk pavilion. It obtained an exemption from state property tax for the land on the grounds that it was open for public use and access. Events such as weddings of any religion could be held in the pavilion by reservation. But when a lesbian couple sought to book the pavilion for a commitment ceremony, the nonprofit balked, saying this went against its religious beliefs.  The court ruled against the nonprofit, not because gay rights trump religious rights but because public land has to be open to everyone or it's not public."

  • I'm a Massachusetts parent helplessly watching public schools teach my son that gay marriage is OK...
A federal judge verbally spanked David Parker for wasting precious court time and resources with this baseless lawsuit.  Parker appealed to the US Supreme Court, who refused to review the case.  Here is just a taste of what the federal judge said.
In summary, the court must dismiss plaintiffs' federal claims because this case is not distinguishable in any material respect from Brown v. Hot, Sexy and Safer Productions, 68 F.3d 525 (1st Cir. 1995). In Brown, the First Circuit held that the constitutional right of parents to raise their children does not include the right to restrict what a public school may teach their children and that teachings which contradict a parent's religious beliefs do not violate their First Amendment right to exercise their religion. [page 3]...

In essence, under the Constitution public schools are entitled to teach anything that is reasonably related to the goals of preparing students to become engaged and productive citizens in our democracy. Diversity is a hallmark of our nation. It is increasingly evident that our diversity includes differences in sexual orientation. Our nation's history includes a fundamental commitment to promoting mutual respect among citizens in our diverse nation that is manifest in the First Amendment's prohibitions on establishing an official religion and restricting the free exercise of religious beliefs on which plaintiffs base some of their federal claims. [page 4]

    It pisses me off

    RI too
I live in RI but am currently out of state. NOM had a press conference today (Wednesday) at the RI Statehouse about their commercial, and our jerk governor and his wife participated. I don't know if the local paper will be running an article in Thursday's paper, but they had a bit about it on their daily news blog:

    http://newsblog.projo.com/2009...

A few gay men and other equality supporters came to the event and stood behind the speakers with signs to show opposition. According to an email posted by one of the men:

"After the press conference was over, the reporters approached Ken Fish, 67, of Warwick, RI who was holding a sign "21 years together". Mr. Fish spoke about this being a "Civil right" not a" religious right". During Mr. Fish's interview, one of the priests kept yelling that Mr. Fish was not telling the truth and tried to interrupt Mr. Fish's interview. I told the Priest that he had his time in front of the press and now it was Mr. Fish's turn, and to be quiet."

foreground: Brute of a man with punk child beside of him pounding his fist.  Taking on the persona of a bully.

says: I don't want my hard earned money being used by the schools to teach this tolerance thing.  I teach my son how to handle people like this in our own way.  It is the way it has been done for thousands of years.  What so wrong with that?

foreground: Soup kitchen worker next to a "bouncer".  The soup kitchen worker holds a chefs cap with a "pointy top" in one hand and ladle in the other.  A steaming soup pot is in the foreground.  The bouncer has his arms crossed and is wearing a white robe.

says:  Even though we receive public money to help feed decent homeless people who find themselves on hard times, we should not be required to accept all patrons at our counter.  After all, our beliefs still hold that not all people were created equal.

I love how they use so many young actors
to create the illusion of large numbers of Americans in their 20s and 30s feeling threatened by marriage equality.

    this is a goldmine.
It seems to me that this commercial is actually a goldmine, should there be someone politically astute and connected enough to see it. (I got the astuteness down, but have no connections). They are actually doing far more than lying about three easily verifiable situations. First and foremost, of course, IS that they are lying, something the guardians of morality really shouldn't be caught at. They are lying that these things have anything at all to do with civil marriage, and they are lying about the basic circumstances of what they do concern. They must know that they are lying, but are willing to do so anyway. I think a lot of reasonable people would be willing to see that the lies mean this is not just about religious disapproval, but about basic prejudice. It just needs to be pointed out to them.

But the three lies cited also indicate that they not only disapprove of homosexuality, but they have an animus towards gay people, and they want to be able to discriminate against gay people on the basis of religious belief. This is HUGE, because they are admitting it finally. We've always known it, but it doesn't get discussed very much.

I see this as a commercial. NOM says that the people of America need to be protected from same-sex marriage. They cite three examples of their religious beliefs being impinged on my gay marriage. but none of these situations had anything to do with marriage. they lied. none of these things occurred as presented. they lied. It was fear mongering and nothing but. In each of these cases, the one truth that they told was that they want to be able to discriminate on the basis of religious belief, and that our society, which has laws at every level of government forbidding discrimination on the basis of religious belief, should give them a pass because it is about gay people, instead of about Jews, or Blacks, or Mormons. (A subtle dig? A reminder of a history some religionists would like to forget? You be the judge!)

do we really want to go down that road, and if we do, who will be next?

They have given us a goldmine. someone please use it.
