She thinks <i>asian</i> names are hard to deal with?

A typical Iberian (Spanish, Portuguese, Gibraltarian or Andorran) will have six more more names - including two or more surnames, each or which is inherited separately - my best friend, who is Portuguese, has three forenames and three surnames; she would have had four surnames however her grandfather forgot to pass one of them down to her - although since she got the same surname (Duarte) from the other side of her family it would simply have meant repeating it.

Meanwhile if/when I get married my surname will be either triple- or quadruple-barrelled. It's already seventeen letters long!

If Betty Brown has trouble with names like "Singh" or "Kaur", I dread to think how she copes with some of the more unusual European surnames like Weclawek (Polish - ven-SWA-vek) Wymondham (English - WIN-dam) or Menzies (Scots - MING-iss).

What a great idea -- all the brown ones adopt "Brown" as their last name, the yellow ones "Yellow" and the red ones "Red". That way she can tell their names just from looking at them, or determine their race by looking at their names.

It's a good thing I live here in CA.

We have a lot of Asians in the Bay Area, LA/OC area, and here in San Diego.  Fortunately, we don't do something drastrically stupid when it comes to Asian names and businesses.  I live in one of the most Asian neighborhoods in San Diego (Kearny Mesa) and I am not phased one bit about the businesses on Convoy Street.

Unfortunately, this country is filled with monoculturists who, instead of including some values and customs in the melting pot, would ask those to sacrifice their customs to appease the "naïve backward white heterosexual Christian" clique.

About Rep. Betty Brown, could she pronounce the noodle soup pho or the common surname Nguyen?

The concept 'transliterated' is WAY over Betty's head, I s'pose:

It is funny, but the Chinese managed to put my adopted son's American name on his passport, in addition to his Chinese name, and to find a way to put my name and my husband's names on our adoption papers, even though they were written in funny "letters" instead of their normal characters.

This woman insults Texans by claiming foreign names are too hard for poll workers. Really, Texas was settled by Germans, Czechs, people from many places with complicated names. Shame on her.(I am a native Texan, not living there.)

I was meeting with some Texas attorneys a few weeks ago and they persistently mispronounced s Spanish name; I corrected them and they continued to mispronounce it.

I corrected them again and finally asked if they even learned Spanish in a State on the Mexican border that was once Spanish speaking itself.
