Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

More from "Nation for Marriage:" the talking points revealed

by: JulieWaters

Fri Apr 10, 2009 at 06:33:36 AM EDT

Through extensive research (okay, I browsed their web site), I discovered the secret (these people are really not at all subtle) agenda behind the web site "Nation for Marriage."

Take for example, their primary talking point:

Language to avoid at all costs: "Ban same-sex marriage." Our base loves this wording. So do supporters of SSM. They know it causes us to lose about ten percentage points in polls. Don't use it. Say we're against "redefining marriage" or in favor or "marriage as the union of husband and wife" NEVER "banning same-sex marriage."

Hey, this is kind of familiar.  Don't use the word "privatization."  Use the term "protecting our investment in the future."  Don't say "torture" say "coercive methods via which to obtain critical and crucial information."  Don't say "quagmire."  Say "global war on extremist ideologies among those evil evildoers of evil."

JulieWaters :: More from "Nation for Marriage:" the talking points revealed
But that's not all.  They also have some really nice gems about Why marriage matters.

Now, mind you, many opponents of same-sex marriage will tell you that it's not about religion, but about an institution that's been part of our lives for a very long time.

But here's something interesting.  Nation for Marriage thinks that you need three different versions of the explanation as to why marriage matters: Protestant, Catholic, and Jewish.

What can we learn from these different approaches to marketing based on religion?

Well, for one thing, Jews apparently like the color green, and are fond of the font Herculanum:

Catholics, on the other hand, clearly like stark color and contrast, and prefer a non Jewy, serif font:

Protestants, however, clearly have no taste at all:

And you know what else we learned?  Cathoics and Protestants, unlike Jews, speak Spanish.

Their website also has some neat tools.  Take for example, their Northeast Project page.  You can use it to e-mail your legislator.  I just used it to send a thank you note to my legislators in Vermont.  Of course, one of my legislators is a friend so I'll probably see him at the next jam session I go to, so this seems silly.  But that's Vermont for you.

How about the various threats that same sex marriage poses?  You can read all about them on NOM's handy little blog.  On their blog you can learn about all sorts of things, like the threat of same-sex marriage being handed down through the courts!

"Unlike the people of California, the people of Iowa have no direct way to get this issue on the ballot so that they can take marriage back from the courts," notes Maggie Gallagher, president of NOM. "Once again the most undemocratic branch of government is being used to advance an agenda the majority of Americans reject. Marriage means a husband and wife. That's not discrimination, that's common sense."

Of course, just because they object to it done through the courts doesn't mean they don't object to it through the legislature:

"Even in states like Vermont where they are pushing this issue through legislatures, gay marriage advocates are totally unwilling to let the people decide these issues directly," agreed Brown. "They've just about run out of courts willing to radically redefine marriage. The next step for gay marriage advocates will be to use these new laws to push Congress to overturn the federal Defense of Marriage Act, and then use the federal courts to impose gay marriage on all 50 states."

Now, admittedly, it is indeed a sad day for Vermont (emphasis mine):

But we take heart in knowing that this vote was not representative of what Vermonters understand marriage to be...

Which is interesting, as Vermont, like the rest of the country, seems to be a representative Democracy

The piece continues:

Today is indeed a sad day, but let all of us who understand that marriage is the union of a husband and wife redouble our commitment to ensuring that same-sex marriage does not spread throughout our nation, that religious liberty is protected, and ultimately that marriage is restored in these states as well for the sake of our children and grandchildren.

Hear that, people?  It's a virus.  Like that HIV thingy!

But, really, how can you say no to this face?

Have we have no hearts?  Clearly, Christians are under attack from the onslaught of same-sex marriage!

I will note two facts:

  1. not only did Vermont's legislature support same sex marriage, they did it with over 2/3rds support of the legislature;
  2. Not only did Vermont's senate vote to support same sex marriage, a majority of Vermont's Republican senators voted to support it.

Be sure to thank your legislators, everyone.  They'll be here all week.

NOM...
being the sound they make as they gobble up that human knowledge...

I'm really, really upset that I've lost Adobe Flash on my PC and it won't download a new installation, so I won't see the spot's audition files or the parody that  I've just noticed Left In Alabama linked to from here. Damn!

As soon as I have my hard drive cleaned, I want all sorts of neat links to view the Rad Rightz meltdown. I'm missing my Daily Show and Rachel Maddow's recaps because I'm usually sleeping in the evenings because of my work schedule. Double damn!

It's raining gay marriage! Head for the hills!

I absolutely love that video!!

Like The Black Smoke In Nazi Germany
That wasn't Jews, gays, gypsies and such being burned to ashed.  They were simply "having a friendly barbecue" with the Nazi's.

typo
"burned to ashes", rather.

[ Parent ]
Also, don't say "anti-choice"
say "pro-life".

Unfortunately way too many in the progressive community go along with them on that deception.  It's like nails on a blackboard to me.

What's wrong with "anti-choice"?
"Pro-life" is a deception.

[ Parent ]
No kidding
Many of the people who claim to be pro-life are also pro-death penalty.  Shoots the hell out of that label.  These self-pious individuals are little concerned about human being once it emerges from the womb.  They're actually anti-sex, or to be more accurate, against having a woman enjoy sex.  They also, overwhelmingly, tend to be against birth control and tend to favor "abstinence only" reproductive education.

Same with "Pro-Family" another code word for anti-gay.  The only families they are in favor of is heterosexual, evangelical christian families.  To hell with anyone else.

They do love their euphemisms.

[ Parent ]
And don't say "Gay Rights Campaign"
say "Human Rights Campaign"
We have it on our own side, too....

I tell you Chica that no greater abomination exists than women denying their spirit of sisterhood and instead becoming the oppressor. -Rebeca, Universidad Complutense de Madrid

[ Parent ]
Yes, but
Gay rights ARE human rights and gay people are healthy human beings, despite what some opponents claim, either by inference or outright.

Also, I don't see HRC going around trying to take rights away from heterosexuals or christians, despite what their opposition claims.  I don't buy their argument that gay rights and same-sex marriage, or marriage equality, if you will, takes away their religious freedom - that's a complete crock.  Churches in the U.S. have always been free to refuse to marry people in their sanctuaries, and will continue to have that right.  That lie about the Methodist church in New Jersey being forced to marry a lesbian couple was a complete lie.  It was a gazebo they owned, which was on public property owned by the church (and given a tax exemption) that was the focus of the lawsuit.  The church was NEVER asked or required to perform the ceremony.  Another distortion, although a better word would be "lie."

This BS about pharmacists having the right to refuse to dispense morning-after pills is a case where they are unwilling to do their job and has nothing to do with their religious freedoms.  If their religious convictions get in the way of their performing their duties, perhaps they should find another line of work, or at least another employer.

I also don't see Planned Parenthood going around trying to encourage abortion, despite what the anti-choice groups claim.

The christian right knows their agenda is about making sure no one has the same rights - a better word is  "privileges" or "special rights" that they have.  And they truly want to force their beliefs on everyone else, thereby eliminating freedoms for everyone else.

They deserve to be called on it, because they own it.

[ Parent ]
Yes, but ...
For me scioto's comment meant that we should stop describing it as what it is. I thought it might have been swapped.

[ Parent ]
The repugs aren't just pro-life...
and pro-death penalty. They're also pro-tobacco, pro-guns and pro-war. Sounds more like they're pro-death in general than pro-life.

Or they say.
Pro-Abortion

[ Parent ]
They say it
but at least the progressive community hasn't reinforced it by using it also.  It's unfortunate that liberals freely use pro-life to describe the anti-choice crowd.  "Pro-life" is not only using their language, as Phil described it is also factually incorrect.

[ Parent ]
Scioto's right
It's definitely unfortunate, if for no other reason than that it opens the door for anti-choicers to call us "pro-abortion".  (Those of us who are pro-choice feel that way because we believe in an individual woman's right to make such a personal decision - not because we want to maximize the number of decisions that end up favoring abortion).

Both "pro-choice" and "anti-choice" are fair characterizations, because a woman's ability to make the choice is precisely the point in contention.

[ Parent ]
I'd rather just call them
people who want government control over reproduction.  Or "womb-control advocates".

[ Parent ]
In other words
They know if they admit what they're actually trying to do, they'll lose.

What we want is unpopular, so try not to talk about it. Talk about teachers. Talk about children. Talk about Benitez v. North Coast Women's Care Medical Group. Anything but the actual issue.

They forgot to register the domain 2m4m
I found an article on JoeMyGod.... someone is developing a website to counter the Two Million for Marraige website.  It's a work in progress and he needs everyones help.  Go take a look.   http://2m4m.org/

looks like something from a Craigslist ad

can't you just see it?

I hope the parodists haven't made their move public too soon.
I fear that the NOMers might pull that hysterical 2M4M name once they get wind of this namesake site, since their campaign isn't up and running yet.

[ Parent ]
How handy!
I was meaning to take the time this weekend to look up the names of Maine's Judicial Committee, as they will be the ones listening to the public hearing on April 24th.

Thanks, NOM!

One more good deed and they'll tie a stopped clock's record of being right twice in a day!

wait, I'm confused
Am I Jewish, or a Spanish speaker? I seem to be able to converse in Spanish, yet I also have these memories of becoming a bat mitzvah and many, many Friday nights and Saturday mornings in shul. No space in brain for both Hebrew and Spanish. Brain now fried from too much input.

It sounds as though...
...you're just the kind of pervert they oppose :)

I'm only a click away.

[ Parent ]
Well, people like you
Spanish speaking Jewish women, aren't worthy of notice because you are all LESBIANS!!!!

Could be worse, OJD, try being an Irish woman with a noticable accent, also a Spanish speaker and educated in Spain. Oh, and ex-Catholic..very very ex...I ate meat today...and sent my daughter to school at Brandeis....

I'm soooo confused.....
OJD and I don't fit their neat "Amerikin" stereotypes...

As a Utah Native,,,
I'm well acquainted with the source of this form of double talk.

As if NOMblog were allowing anyone and everyone to comment ...
The only comments I see posted are from the same old has-beens from Opine Editorials and elsewhere ...

How about...
Whenever they call it 'redefining marriage', we should call it "extending the right to marry" (or some other clever catch phrase). The term 'redefining' implies that straight marriage is somehow being changed or threatened. That's the kind of fear tactics that motive people to vote against marriage equality.

Eliminating Marriage Discrimination -nt

What SCIENTIFIC reasons?
I don't know how anyone can read that Why Marriage Matters crap with a straight face, each banner mentioning "SEVEN SCIENTIFIC REASONS". Religious reasonings are NOT scientific, obvious targeting those religious nut-jobs that don't know the difference between science and religion.

It's sad about the talking points as well -- because people actually buy into that kind of stupid tactic.

Well these are generally the same people
who want creationism taught as science alongside, (or even better, instead of), evolution, so this is par for the course.

I am the lizard queen!

Another parody ad

extremely funny!!!

To Funny,
Thanks for posting this.  Gay marriage chasers is so fitting.

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

It's been removed...
Is it available anywhere else?

Love their "science"
(And scare quotes)
From their Jewish version (in spiffy PDF format)
Laws against interracial marriage were about keeping two races apart, so that one race could oppress the other, and that is wrong.

And Laws against marriage equality for same-sex couples is about about keeping sexual orientations apart, so that one's personal religious beliefs can oppress the other, and that is wrong.

Marriage is about bringing male and female together, so that children have mothers and fathers, and so that women aren't stuck with the enormous, unfair burdens of parenting alone--- and that is good

And yet single mothers are all over the country facing enormous unfair burdens of parenting alone, and denying LGBT their rights does not resolve that concern.

Jonathan Yarbrough, part of the first couple to get a same-sex marriage in Provincetown, Mass, said, "I think it's possible to love more than one person and have more than one partner. . . . In our case, it is. We have an open marriage." Once you rip a ship off its mooring who knows where it will drift next?

I still say gay people did not invent the term wife swapping. But maybe your right, once you rip that ship from it's mooring who knows where it will lead? If the government allows these religious groups to dictate the law on this issue, why next they could be forcing our kids to take communion at lunch time, and baptising them before they are admitted to kindergarten.

Right now, for example, the Catholic Church is being challenged in Canada because a local parish refused to rent out their church reception hall when they learned
the reception was for a lesbian couple.

Did the US take over Canada and I miss the memo? And also, isn't this the same incident (twisted facts regarding it though) that they have used over and over and over? Do they not have any other even to point to besides the few they repeat like a broken record? Oh, that's right they don't because >clears throat< MARRIAGE EQUALITY IS NOT A THREAT!

Legal scholars warn that the tax exempt status and accreditation of religious organizations could be at risk.

To me the cause of that would be taking a political platform that they are not supposed to. You know like telling their congragations how to vote (Looking at you, CoLDS)hehe colds... lol

Heather and her two Mommies will become standard kindergarten fare. Our children need to hear a positive message about marriage.

LGBT children especially. I guess their opinion is screw the LGBT children, let them continue to hear they are an abomination, they are going to hell, they are less than their fellow playmates, etc. Not so "Love of God" when you shine the light on it, eh?

watashi no yomeiri wa doko desu ka

Didn't the Governor of Utah get slammed for this?
From the NOM site,

6. What about benefits? Don't gay couples and their kids need the benefits and protections of marriage?"

A: "If medical proxies aren't working, let's fix that problem. If people need health care, let's get them health care. Don't mess with marriage."

This is so much fun.  We could pit the right wingers against each other.  But quite frankly it would be a waste of time.  It is interesting how they try so hard to feel good about themselves denying other citizens their rights.

They try to make themselves out to be loving people.  They doing a good job at that.  Their video making is right on par with their loving feelings towards LGBT people, they both suck.

I wonder if NOM would Help LGBT folks in Texas get their Medical Proxies fixed.  Maybe even get healthcare benefits for LGBT couples in Michigan.

What a bunch of lying christians.

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.
