The outcome was predictable; Perez handing them a weapon

and many of us winced and groaned when Perez began his follow up interviews.

The "hateful gays" persecuting such a sweet, pretty young girl...no matter how we try and distance ourselves from Perez, (and by no means are all LGBT's trying to disnatnce from this, some support Perez) we are stuck with it. And there is no spin that we can put on it to make it less damaging.

And louise, if you are starting with Putz, we can all use our imaginations to fill in what you might have continued with.

I get that Perez Hilton was a tool, but really, THAT's an "attack"? From a woman who presumably wants to be in the public eye? Guess what, sweetheart, you put yourself in the public eye and gossip columnists are going to say bad things about you and your frisbree breasts (they're fake!? I'm shocked!). That's part of the game.

I resent some airhead, who makes the stereotypical dumb blonde look like freakin' Einstein, talking about being "attacked" the same week that a real attacker is put in prison in Colorado. Want to see an "attack" Carrie, try looking at the Angie Zapata crime photos.

I would've agreed with you ...

because I've always hated Perez Hilton and all his gay gossip publicity whore clones [you know the names].

But then I saw him talk about this on CNN and the importance of marriage issue with facts and intellect, as opposed to Miss California glancing at her cheat notes while spewing conservative lies about "protecting marriage" , which, to my chagrin, I haven't seen one commentator asked the dumb robot to expound on.  Believe me, hilarity would ensue.

"What exactly does protecting it mean, Miss California? Is it like protecting ourselves from Swine flu?  Should we wear masks?  When Pam & Betty get married, will traditional straight couples develop high fevers and die?"

Oh the horror.

No.  Miss California is the conservatives newest poster person for stupidity.  Yes they embrace her, like a drowning man embraces anything buoyant.  They grabbed onto that dolt Joe the Plumber, even though it became immediately clear he was an idiot.  Still, to this day, they get all flush when he's around.

Why?  Because their entire ideology is dying all around them and they have no idea what to do.  So they lurch here and there and grab onto anything shiny and buoyant and say "SEE! This plumber agrees!"  "This dumb blond agrees, too!!!"  

It would all be hilarious if it wasn't so pathetic. Perez may still be a publicity whore, but on this matter I'm with him 100%.  And if Miss Californication is their secret weapon, then we just may be able to exhale a bit. Maybe.  But I'll still sleep with one eye open.

Her 15 minutes are almost up...

She's a vapid person, she can't even form a coherent sentence.  She won't reflect well on NOM or anything else.  In fact, I'd like to be the first to predict that she's set the whole notion of Miss America so far back that the last such contest may have just occurred.  She's sullied the brand by associating it with even more stupidity and the new added bonus of bigotry.  People remember these things and are quite capable of making the association.

She'll shortly be her own undoing and it will be some (other) incredibly idiotic thing that she says.  Bet on it.

Also Christianity is about a modicum of chastity (not that kind) as in modesty of dress and appearance -- she doesn't even fit the bill.

I think this shows, more than anything else, how desperate the  Christianism-for-profit set is, since with this move they really seem to be scrapping the bottom of the barrel.

Right now, she's a shiny new toy, in a month or two she'll be the next National joke -- one that will in all likelihood take down NOM for good, especially when she screws up or certain facts about her come to light and NOM is forced to fire her and the subsequent law-suites she brings against NOM, etc, etc...

It's pretty obvious she's in it for the bucks, since she took the first paying gig that came her way.

I've seen more pathetic people, but not many.

Carrie Airhead is the best thing to happen to our civil rights, since the last bone-headed, tone-deaf stunt NOM pulled.

NOM are truly our best friends.  They've given us what nobody else ever has: a group whose sole purpose is to be our court jesters.  What other professional hate group has had the whole country laughing at them?  That's a first in the entire history of hate!

Carrie Neo-Nazi is a strident, inarticulate, plastic idiot whose entire identity is being an out-of-touch beauty queen and a proud member of the lunatic fringe.  She is the exact opposite of what NOM wants for a spokesmodel, so, naturally, NOM thinks it's scored the coup of the century.  I cannot wait for her inevitable fiasco of an ad to appear!

Just saw her on The Today Show

And the one thing I definitely noticed is that the pageant smile has been replaced by the typical Christofascist sneer of contempt which she wore for the whole interview. She radiated hate during her interview with Matt Lauer from start to finish. Words cannot do justice to the sickening awful feeling I had watching this woman. Her true colors certainly came out this morning. If they have this interview on the Today Show website, I would truly recommend watching it. You will see exactly what I mean. Sickening. She should do a photo op with Congresswoman Foxx.

I just sent this email to the Today show:

Now that Carrie Prejean is officially a political figure (having joined NOM), I was wondering why she was permitted to make a statement denouncing gay marriage without being challenged on her position? Would she have not come on the show if a person with an opposing viewpoint had also been invited to be on?

Perhaps next time Matt will have the fortitude to ask her some straightforward questions, such as:

What did she mean when she said, "Well I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. Um, we live in a land that you can choose same sex marriage or opposite marriage..."?  Besides that statement being false in 46 states, it also implies that she supports marriage equality.

Does she support civil unions for gay couples? Does she think that gay couples should have hospital visitation rights? Does she think that gay people should be able to adopt children?

Is she aware that Canada has had gay marriage rights for 4 years?

The original NOM ad has already been exposed as a bunch of lies and half-truths. Was she aware of this before she joined their organization?

I was watching some of the House debate yesterday and some idiot Rep. from VA was spouting off on a hypothetical on the Miss USA pagent:

"This gay judge said if she had won he would have ran up their and ripped the tiara from her head and she wouldn't have be able to claim that was a hate crime but if she said some about that gay person right after that, she would be accused.  If her father, went after the guy, he would be accused of a hate crime for protecting his daughter"  
It was so silly.  The guy was obviously a dunce.

Few people mention this...the tag line is no longer the 'sanctity' of marriage (too many homophobes failed this test) rather the NEW tag line is just plain "I believe marriage is between a man and a woman".  This is the Ms California sound bite the new NOM add starts out with...hey and beside, she would be not the first to point out that Pres. Obama agrees with her.
