Obama needs to realize he may be in the eye of the storm right now, but if he doesn't start doing something on GLBT right, and I mean soon, he's going to have to deal with the fallout of the destruction of the line of Category 5 storms Hurricane Gay, Hurricane Lesbian, Hurricane Bisexual and Hurricane Transgendered.

What fallout?

Those of us uneasy about Obama to begin with were continuously being threatened with the spectre of "do you want to be responsible for another Scalia on the Court?" when we dared questioned his "fierce committment" to LGBT rights.

The 67% of the community who voted for him in 08 will vote for him in 12.

The LCR's will, of course, rhapsodise over what a step forward their getting to have a meeting with Republican Nominee Limbaugh's Pharmacist and with VP candiate Bachmann's partially blind plastic surgeon.

Just sent this open letter to the White House

When asked today about Prop 8, Robert Gibbs sidestepped by saying "he hadn't spoken with the President about it yet".

While I do believe this to be true, I also find it rather remarkable that a ruling of this magnitude did not have an already prepared response for any of the few different possibilities, either given by Mr. Gibbs, given out as a press release or available on this website.

It is well documented that President Obama has a Blackberry- if the funds are that limitted, may I donate MINE to Mr. Gibbs, so the two can better communicate?

I am dreadfully disappointed in the deafening silence by this administration, not just on Prop 8, but by Maine's passage of LD 1020 and signing by Governor John Baldacci- who signed the bill into law an hour after final passage through our Senate.

Please, do better by the LGBTQ community than you have so far.

Meanwhile, Carrie Prejean is co-hosting "Fox and Friends" tomorrow morning. (Wonder if the Donald signed off on that appearance?) I'm sure we'll hear all about it then about how President Separate-But-Equal agrees with her that marriage is between a man and a woman.

Even without Prop 8 there would be people there.

Meanwhile in Nevada, the divorced, adulteress, Mormon Govenor Gibbons vetoed Nevada Domestic Partnership bills yesterday echoing The Terminators spin, "The people voted in 2002".    

Gibbons said he rejected state Senate Bill 283 because it is contrary to the wishes of Nevada voters who in 2002 approved the Protection of Marriage constitutional amendment. ...
But the governor said his veto should not be taken to mean he believes that "domestic partners are in any way undeserving of rights and protections."

What happens when there is a "Defence of Biblical Marriage Act" that includes such things as :

"Marriage shall be defined as the sacred union of one man and one or more women as sanctioned in the Bible"

"For purposes of divorce, adultery shall not include the husband impregnating the childless widow of his brother"

Dear Mr. President-

During the election you stated that you were a fierce advocate for Gay and Lesbian Transgendered rights, please, Mr. President, explain why you can not be bothered to make a statement about any of the developments on this issues over the last two months.  Why have you not spoken out on the Prop 8 issue in the state of California?  Or the granting of marriage rights in 5 states since your election?  Why have you done nothing to forward the repeal of DADT, and what are you doing about the repeal of DOMA?  I voted for you because you promised to be a "fierce advocate" for my rights, when do you plan on becoming that fierce advocate?  Why have you abandoned me?  

You have lost my trust, my respect, and now you have lost my vote if you should decide to run again.  I no longer respect you, for you are doing nothing and I and everyone I know, are tired of your side-stepping and dancing away from your promises.

I no longer will support you and I will vote for anyone but you and I will not support the Democratic party any longer.  You sir, are a liar and a fraud.

Please, explain your lack of action.  What do you plan to do, if anything?  Do we not deserve a comment or an explanation?  You are MY president and you are accountable to ME, one of the people without equal rights.

You probably will not hear anything much...

Although Obama came out (barely) against Prop 8, California still has a "separate but equal" civil union policy on the books.  I've not heard that Prop 8 also invalidates the existing civil union policy, so this fits with Obama's position of "full-equality without the name".
