The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Abortion doctor George Tiller murdered at Kansas church

by: Pam Spaulding

Sun May 31, 2009 at 19:23:29 PM EDT

(Other diaries up: Dr. George Tiller Murdered While In Church and Insane rhetoric that led to George Tiller's death needs to stop.)

Get ready for more of these because the fetus-citizen advocates and womb-controllers are distressed at the political change around the country, and a good number of them are off their rockers evil. Late-term abortion provider Dr. George Tiller was shot to death at a Wichita, Kansas church today.

Dr. George Tiller, who remained one of the nation's few providers of late-term abortions through decades of protests and attacks, was shot and killed Sunday in a church where he was serving as an usher and his wife was in the choir.

...Long a focus of national anti-abortion groups, including a summer-long protest in 1991, Tiller was serving as an usher during Sunday morning services when he was shot in the foyer of Reformation Lutheran Church, Stolz said.

..."We just thought a child had come in with a balloon and it had popped, had gone up and hit the ceiling and popped," [congregation member Adam] Watkins said.

Another usher came in and told the congregation to remain seated, then escorted Tiller's wife out. "When she got to the back doors, we heard her scream, and so we knew something bad had happened," Watkins said.

The 51-year-old gunman fled the scene in a car, and was arrested three hours after the shooting.

According to the Wichita Eagle, Tiller's clinic has been vandalized repeatedly.

Tiller's clinic was severely vandalized earlier this month. According to the Associated Press, his lawyer said wires to security cameras and outdoor lights were cut and that the vandals also cut through the roof and plugged the buildings' downspouts. Rain poured through the roof and caused thousands of dollars of damage in the clinic. Tiller reportedly asked the FBI to investigate the incident.

...Sgt. Bart Brunscheen of the Wichita Police Department said there has been no activitiy today at Tiller's clinic, although security crews were being brought in to make sure the building was secure. Officials also were going to check the clinic's security cameras to see if there was any activity over night.

Tiller and his clinic have faced continuous threats and lawsuits. A Wichita jury ruled in March that he was not guilty of illegal abortion on 19 criminal charges he faced for allegedly violating a state law requiring an "independent" second physician's concurring opinion before performing later term abortions.

The President on the murder:
I am shocked and outraged by the murder of Dr. George Tiller as he attended church services this morning.  However profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as abortion, they cannot be resolved by heinous acts of violence.
Other reactions are below the fold.

Woodhull Freedom Foundation:
A man was murdered today.

Thousands of people are murdered in this country every year, but this man was murdered for believing in sexual freedom as a fundamental human right.

This man was murdered because he believed in a woman's right to personal autonomy.

This man was murdered because he believed that a woman should be able to make her own decisions about her body and her reproductive health.

The Woodhull Freedom Foundation joins the majority of this country in expressing our outrage at this senseless murder and in offering our condolences to the family of Dr. George Tiller.

***

NARAL Pro-Choice America:

Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, today issued the following statement on the murder of Dr. George Tiller in Wichita, Kan.

"On behalf of NARAL Pro-Choice America, our prayers and thoughts are with Dr. Tiller's family and friends at this moment, a moment that fills us with immeasurable shock and deep sadness.

"For almost two decades, Dr. Tiller and those individuals who helped provide care to his patients have lived under intense harassment tinged with persistent threats of violence. Even under these adverse circumstances, Dr. Tiller never wavered in his commitment to providing abortion services and other reproductive health care to women and their families, often in the most difficult and heart-breaking circumstances.

"Dr. Tiller's murder will send a chill down the spines of the brave and courageous providers and other professionals who are part of reproductive-health centers that serve women across this country. We want them to know that they have our support as they move forward in providing these essential services in the aftermath of the shocking news from Wichita.

"We understand that the investigation is ongoing and that law-enforcement officials are pursuing a suspect. If it proves to be an act of anti-abortion violence, as we suspect it is, then the full weight of the law must be used to send a clear message that these types of attacks will be prosecuted fully and swiftly.

"We also call on opponents of a woman's right to choose to condemn this action completely and absolutely. What happened today in Wichita cannot become the beginning of a more aggressive wave of violence targeting abortion providers and the women for whom they provide care. Women accessing their legal right to abortion-and the providers who make this possible-should never be targets of violence."

***

People for the American Way:

Dr. George Tiller, a physician who has been targeted for years for his willingness to provide abortion procedures often in the most difficult circumstances, was assassinated today in his church in Kansas.  People For the American Way President Michael B. Keegan issued the following statement:

"I am deeply saddened by the killing of Dr. Tiller.  He was a man who was dedicated to the belief that all women deserve access to safe reproductive health services including abortion.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, his friends, and his community.

"People have a right to disagree about abortion, but it's impossible to separate today's tragedy from the violent language that has been directed for years at doctors like George Tiller.  Those who have inflamed emotions and dehumanized their opponents around the issue of abortion should take pause before they continue such dangerous rhetoric."

And here is the reaction on the right; it's disgusting.

You know Randall Terry of Operation Rescue had to blame the victim:

George Tiller was a Mass-Murderer, says Randall Terry -- We Grieve That he Did Not Have Time to Properly Prepare his Soul to Face God

Randall Terry, founder of Operation Rescue, led protests against George Tiller's late-term abortion clinic in Wichita in 1991.

Randall Terry, founder of Operation Rescue states, "George Tiller was a mass-murderer. We grieve for him that he did not have time to properly prepare his soul to face God. I am more concerned that the Obama Administration will use Tiller's killing to intimidate pro-lifers into surrendering our most effective rhetoric and actions. Abortion is still murder. And we still must call abortion by its proper name; murder.

"Those men and women who slaughter the unborn are murderers according to the Law of God. We must continue to expose them in our communities and peacefully protest them at their offices and homes, and yes, even their churches."

***

Frank Pavone of Priests of Life:

"I am saddened to hear of the killing of George Tiller this morning. At this point, we do not know the motives of this act, or who is behind it, whether an angry post-abortive man or woman, or a misguided activist, or an enemy within the abortion industry, or a political enemy frustrated with the way Tiller has escaped prosecution. We should not jump to conclusions or rush to judgment.
And on Twitter, look at this:

I guess some...
Right-to-lifers are only concerned about life when it is on their own terms.

I suggest
You got that right.
I suggest checking out the following comment:

This is why the left
needs to stop humoring these people by calling them "pro-life". This is an enormous hypocrisy from these people. Someone truly "pro-life" would not support picking up a gun and murdering a man.

I am the lizard queen!

who isn't "pro-life", anyway?
theirs isn't an argument framed about the right to live--it's framed around the forced birth of unwanted children.  that faction may be pro-fetus, but they are not interested in the welfare of millions of children born into poverty, nor of the mothers who won't or can't care for them.

and now along with the murder of doctors, how many of them supported the mass murder of civilians in iraq, or are thirsting for the blood of iranians?  it's time for everyone--including the MSM--to re-frame the abortion debate around terms that are more applicable to the various arguments.  why is it always the intolerant a-holes on the right who get to pick the terms, and the spineless left who accepts them for what they are?

The gays stole my lunch money

I call them "pro-fetus"
They are only "pro-life" from conception to birth. After that, they don't give a damn what happens to mother or child.

Read an interesting artical in the crooksandliars thread on this.
"Why I am an abortion doctor"

"What follows are remarks delivered by Canadian abortion doctor Garson Romalis on Jan. 25, at the University of Toronto Law School's Symposium to Mark the 20th Anniversary of R. vs. Morgentaler"

http://www.nationalpost.com/op...

In the article he talks about the influence practicing while abortion was illegal had on him and why he continues to provide abortions.

And calling them "pro-life" is giving them too much credit they are anti-choice, the prospect of women being in control of their own destinies enrages them.

Precisely, N_K
Anti-choice is exactly what it comes down to.  Their intellectual capacity is too blinded by their religio-political dogma to handle the task of parsing a complex question into analytically distinct issues.

Let me preface this with the statement that I realize it might not even be possible for someone who's spent his whole life as a biological male to speculate about this.  But I suspect that if I were a woman, I'd have a hard time choosing abortion.  The thought that I may be terminating a potentially conscious life (these ARE scientifically and philosophically unanswered questions) would probably give me pause.

Even so, I'm able to see that "CubPaws thinks 'X'" does NOT translate automatically to "the law should force everyone else to render THEIR decisions based on CubPaws' opinion".  Regardless of what any particular individual feels about "abortion" in the abstract, the fact remains that any particular decision on whether to have an abortion is an intensely personal one for the woman involved, with very weighty stakes hanging from either choice.  Since she's the fulcrum for both sides of this balance, she's the one who has to be left free to do the weighing.

Why certain religious extremists can't parse this difference is beyond me... unless, of course, their whole goal IS to make everyone's decisions for them.  (Holy Handmaid's Tale, Batman!)

First time comment
I'm saddened when I read when something like this happens but yet it is not considered an act of terrorism. Instead, we're focused on a boogeyman who wears a turban and sleeps in caves.

I've been a lurker on this blog for quite some time and I want to say that I truly appreciate what you do. I live here inb Memphis TN. and here in the city, the LGBT fight for equality has hit home. There is a vote tomorrow by city council which involves the passing of legislature to extend anti-discrimination laws to the LGBT community in the city and county. It's been a hot topic this week. I don't know if you were aware of this situation, but I wrote about it and you're free to check it out HERE if you like. I would love to hear your thoughts on the subject from the perspective of one who has been greatly involved in this movement for change.

I'd sure appreciate it.

This must be
part of that 'culture of life' I'm always hearing about.

I'm willing to be that the people who protested outside of Tiller's church would howl bloody murder if we protested outside theirs for involvement against equality.

Suppose one is pro-life and suppose one is a hypocrite, but I repeat myself.

I can only hope
Someone is neglecting to tell the Tiller family about all of the HORRIBLE things people are saying about him. When did 'pro-life' become synonymous with pro-murder, pro-torture, pro-death penalty, and pro-war? Maybe now people will realize what the anti-choice groups are all about: another case of telling women to sit down, shut up, and do as they're told.

I guess Dr Tiller wasn't gay
Obama issued a statement.

It was a weak statement that conceded too much
to the anti-choice people.

See my diary
These people conspired to blow up clinics and kill doctors. They absolutely had to be aware of the forseeable outcome of their propaganda.

Obama is legitimising the conspiracy.
I try people for this kind of behaviour

Domestic Religous Terrorism

So - will Cheney be calling for the arrest and detention of his assocaites without due process? Will he be safe to imprison inside the country?

Who is more "Christian"?
Our beloved Freepers or
the Free Conservatives?  Most of the concern seems to be that they realize that it's probably a anti-choice fundie nut and are worried about how this will affect their cause.

Political gain
Said the Rev. Patrick Mahoney, an anti-abortion activist: "No one should use this tragedy for political gain."

Just like they didn't politicize the tragedy of Terri Shiavo's persistent vegetative state and didn't use the arguable 'tragedy' of Palin's baby having Downs' Syndrome for political gain --

Or is it only those who don't agree with them who should be ashamed of 'using tragedy for political gain'?

Dr. Tiller was not murdered- he was assassinated.

My deepest condolences to his family.

This is another reason why I keep my daughters
as far away as possible from the religious nuts.  They celebrate the death of certain people and mourn the death of others.

How quick they are to judge who gets to live and who shall die with no regard to the laws of this country.

There is nothing por-life about these people.  They are some sort of scary.

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

He was actually killed INSIDE the church.

Yes, he was an usher. His wife was in the choir.

One positive
Operation Rescue's head dictator had this to say: "We are shocked at this morning's disturbing news that Mr. Tiller was gunned down," Troy Newman, Operation Rescue's president, said in a statement. "Operation Rescue has worked for years through peaceful, legal means, and through the proper channels to see him brought to justice. We denounce vigilantism and the cowardly act that took place this morning."

They decry his assassination, yet still wanted him for "murder" and to be "brought to justice" for his "crimes".

Truly pathetic!

My favorite quote from Randall Terry
I've posted this before, but it seems particularly relevant now.  This is Terry, as quoted in Fort Wayne News-Sentinel, 8/16/93:

I want you to just let a wave of intolerance wash over you. I want you to let a wave of hatred wash over you. Yes, hate is good ... Our goal is a Christian nation. We have a Biblical duty, we are called by God, to conquer this country. We don't want equal time. We don't want pluralism.

Sure sounds peaceful and legal to me.

[ Parent ]
Is this a hate crime?
I'm only partly serious, I know hate crimes laws even in places that have them don't cover a group of citizens called "abortion providers".  But this likely wasn't a crime of passion, or self-defense, or of a serial killer (I assume...), or during the commission of a robbery or other crime.  Dr Tiller was targeted because of who he is and whom he represents.

Is this a religious assassination?  A political one?  Or does it suffice to call it premeditated murder and prosecute it as such?

I am sad that even a church, one of the places the Christers call sacred, is not safe to protect against the rage and hysterical violence of some religious people against others.

Allow true Choice!
We all need to stand up to these lifers and push for abortions up until the baby is 1 year old!  EVERY WOMAN should have the right to choose not only in the womb but outside as well!  This would help in opening new doors for the euthanasia debate in America which is waaay overdue!  Women should have the right to choose to terminate their pregnancy or baby during the first year of life and it shouldn't be illegal to allow a medical professional to assist someone wanting to end their life or the life of a loved one!  What's wrong with this backward society of ours???  Surely we have evolved past these petty "life vs death" issues.  FREEDOM OF CHOICE!

You got it!
I couldn't agree more!

Yeah, right.

Extremists
All anti-abortion activists ARE extremists, just like all anti-gay protesters are extremists.  Everyone else is working on reasonable compromise but the only solution which they will accept is to have every issue settled  100% their way and that seems pretty extreme to me.

truly tragic!
Murdering a doctor (or anyone) isn't "pro-life" at all.

If abortion were illegal
what should happen to a woman who has one?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Like Flo Kennedy said so many years ago,
"If men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament."

[ Parent ]
Maybe...
...someone will be able to demonstrate to these right-wing hacks the folly of their murderous "logic"... by escalating it.  By taking out two members of the Randall Terry zombie army for every health care professional that gets victimized.

Or would these looney-tunes just welcome it as martyrdom?

We lose on the rhetoric...
...because  the "pro-life" movement continues to get a free pass from the MSM, regardless of their positions on other "consistent ethic of life" issues such as the death penalty, war, euthanasia, and, evidently, the murder of doctors who provide abortion services to women.

There is NOTHING pro-life about gunning a man down in his church. There is NOTHING pro-life about forcing a teen girl who has been raped by her father to have a baby. All children should be wanted children.

The pro-choice movement MUST do a better job of articulating the hypocritical, death-embracing culture of the anti-abortion activists. As a part of that pro-choice movement, I will continue to push for better language around what "choice" really means. Does anyone really believe that a woman wakes up one day and says, "Gee, I think I'll go get an abortion just for the hell of it?". A woman who becomes pregnant and is uncertain about having a baby has three really, really difficult choices: 1. carry the baby to term and give it up for adoption (I love how the pro-life folks always make this sound like a breeze; I think every pro-life politician has to adopt at least 10 unwanted children to claim true pro-life credentials); 2. have an abortion, for which she may be condemned by her family, partner, church, community, etc; or 3. give birth and try to care for the child without adequate resources, or the desire to parent.

In a perfect world, there would be no need for abortions, because there would be universal access to adequate birth control, and women the world over would truly have a say over their own bodies and sexual decisions. I myself struggle with the idea of abortion since I do believe that a fetus is a baby. I think many folks on the pro-choice side do, and the difference between us and the radical pro-lifers is that we acknowledge the gray areas.  I am still committed to keeping abortion safe and legal, IN SPITE OF my own hesitations about having an abortion personally, because this is not a perfect world, and I am not in any position to choose for anyone else. To me, that is what "pro-life" really means...respecting the choices and lives of all.
