Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

We're Not The Community Spokesmodels; We're Not The Talking Heads

by: Autumn Sandeen

Thu Jun 11, 2009 at 05:39:37 AM EDT

Listen Live to the Rob, Arnie, and Dawn in the Morning broadcast at 7:30 AM PDT (10:30 AM EDT) here. Barista Autumn Sandeen and TransYouth Family Ally executive director Kim Pearson will be on air with the hosts.

Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. Hate destroys a man's sense of values and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false and the false with the true.

--Martin Luther King Jr.

My laptop pooped out today, so I didn't have the ability to write earlier. And now, I really don't have time to write a lengthy post -- It's late, and I've been strategically planning with Kim Pearson for the Thursday Morning KRXQ broadcast appearance.

And hey, we are hearing you. I will be there as a new media reporter; Kim as a children's advocate. We aren't going to overstep our roles; we will not be saying we accept statements of apology on behalf of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and ally communities, nor on behalf of transgender youth; nor on behalf progressive and children's activists. In other words, we will hear the apologies, but only you can decide whether or not the apologies are acceptable.

"We are confident. We have ourselves. We know how to sacrifice. We know how to work. We know how to combat the forces that oppose us. But even more than that, we are true believers in the whole idea of justice. Justice is so much on our side, that that is going to see us through.

--Cesar Chavez

UC Davis, who were the beneficiaries of $126,000 from a KRXQ fundraiser last year, have decided not only not advertise with KRXQ, but no longer wish to have the station fundraise on their behalf:

Dear Mr. Geary,

The statements made by Rob Williams and Arnie States on the May 28 broadcast of "Rob, Arnie and Dawn in the Morning" - and the subsequent response by the show's hosts and the station's leadership - have caused DC Davis Health System to re-examine its relationship with KRXQ 98 Rock.

We are grateful for the fundraising support KRXQ has provided over the last several years to DC Davis Children's Hospital. This fundraising has been valuable in raising awareness about our children's hospital and generating hundreds of thousands of dollars in support of children's services.

Nevertheless, the events of May 28 and the station's lack of a publicly articulated response to those events are inconsistent with DC Davis' values and mission. We are first and foremost an institution of learning and teaching, committed to advancing health and well-being for all. We are deeply committed to our DC Davis Principles of Community, a commitment that affirms the inherent dignity in all of us, fosters mutual understanding, and strives to maintain a climate of social justice.

We affirm the right of freedom of expression, within the bounds of courtesy, sensitivity and respect. The statements made by Rob Williams and Arnie States were outside those bounds. We reject their statements of intolerance, which were all the more alarming because they were directed at a population - children who express transgender feelings - who are especially vulnerable to the prejudice, violence and harm such statements engender. We are disappointed that KRXQ did not reject those statements as well.

After careful consideration of the longstanding partnership with KRXQ 98 Rock, we have decided to cancel our advertising on the station and to discontinue our partnership with KRXQ for Children's Miracle Network fundraising.

We will reassess our relationship at the end of the year, with the hope that KRXQ 98 Rock will at that time prove to be an organization with whom we can partner to advance health for all.

Sincerely,

Claire Pomeroy, M.D., M.B.A.
Vice Chancellor, Human Health Sciences
Dean, DC Davis School of Medicine

Kim and I get that this story, while about transgender children in particular, is really is about how adults culling out any group of minority children for abuse as being an absolute wrong. UC Davis treats trans children at their medical facilities, but even if they didn't, it appears that they too very much get that adults culling out any group of minority children for abuse is an absolute wrong.

"Preservation of one's own culture does not require contempt or disrespect for other cultures."

--Cesar Chavez

GLAAD, as per their norm with this story, has another excellent post up on the glaadBLOG, entitled KRXQ UPDATE: Tomorrow's Show and More Advertiser Statements. Along with the information that the title informs us is the entry, GLAAD adds the following:

Please note the following information:

* The live broadcast will last for 2.5 hours

* There will be no commercial breaks whatsoever during the radio show

* People may call in during the show at the following number: 916-766-1044

* You can follow GLAAD Senior Media Strategist Andy Marra on Twitter during the broadcast @Andy_Marra

* GLAAD will be releasing our statement on GLAADblog.org and GLAAD.org soon after the show

GLAAD reminds its readers to be respectful and civil when calling into the radio station and expressing your views.

Kim and I would appreciate that too. Remember:

The hope of a secure and livable world lies with disciplined nonconformists who are dedicated to justice, peace and brotherhood.

--Martin Luther King Jr.

And...

Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars... Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.

--Martin Luther King Jr.

As the grass roots, you have been the spokesmodels to both KRXQ and the pertinent advertisers; as a collective group, you have been the talking heads. Kim and I are aware of this -- we only ask that y'all continue to remain the voices or reason in a realm where hate has clouded the starry brilliance of our community's youth.

UC Davis
I've been following the KRXQ debacle -- cheering every advertiser withdrawal. How powerful is that letter from UC Davis?  If that doesn't make every single person at KRXQ feel ashamed -- for not only the initial broadcast, but the complete lack of recognition after the fact by almost everyone at that station as to how truly horrible it is to attack children the way that Morning Show team did -- then they have no soul.

thank you Autumn and Kim

Goliath is going to meet Davey this morning. Davey is going to win.

and the world is going to be changed hard to measure how much but this is historic and hopeful - the mobilization , the response and yes we made them feel us. Wishing you and Kim just good vibes and all the LOVE in the world. Their hateful words lost them millions and your post is perfect.

Thank you both for representing and the  community will be watching the sponcers. We won't drop the ball.

Don't go easy on them.

Don't back down in the face of tears or apologies.

Don't let them waste any airtime making comments or asking questions.

They are manipulative bigots that will not change. The indifferent and the curious listening in are the target.

Good luck.

Are you talking about what it is you know, or just repeating what it was you heard?

Proud of you both
and you will forgive this aging feminist for claiming you as a woman's voice on the issue was well, Autumn.

THANK YOU AND GOOD LUCK!!
Ran a gazillion errands as fast as I could to be able to listen this morning...

Godspeed
Godspeed, Autumn Sandeen, I'm sure that you will do your best.   The radio station went down because of finances, but the community took the station down in revulsion for KRXQ's lack of class and dignity.

At some level, the radio station (or at the very least, its public relations agent) realizes as much.  It is admitting:

WE HAVE FAILED YOU. AS A SHOW, AS PEOPLE, AS BROADCASTERS, WE HAVE SIMPLY FAILED ON ALMOST EVERY LEVEL.

So far so good from Rob
"Once we defended our posistion (that it was just a joke), we were told not by transgenders, their allies, or even our advertisers- but by our FANS, our audience, that we screwed up, had gone too far, were tone deaf."

"Here to make things right with our audience"

Rob was very good apologizing for the previous tones and discussions of hurting a child, but here's the thing:

KIDS become ADULTS. They do not go "POOF!" at age 18 and disappear, if anything the problems complicate and intensify.

(There is a similar disconnect with autism and other disabilities- so much focus on the "infant to adult" life stages and no follow through afterwards...)

Hoping there will be more awareness of this by Rob and apologies to the adult Ts as well... hoping Autumn will talk about Angie, Gwen and sadly so many others who have been and continue to be discriminated against, damaged, injured or killed.

Arnie on now: apologies to entire transgender community. But again, focus comes back to the child abuse aspects...

Kim as a parent
really is a great advocate for hers and all other children; her words from a parental POV connect imo- powerful!

Love her and I try my damnedest to be this sort of out ally/ supporter for all kids, my own and those who come into my life. Kids need all the acceptance, concern and support they can get.

LOL! Autumn did a shout-out to her Bon-Bon...

thanks Autumn and Kim
Y'all were fantastic! I was very pleasantly surprised to hear such a turnaround from Rob and Arnie from the way they were talking the past 2 weeks. This show today proves that open and honest dialog can touch hearts and change minds.

Thank you
The show was very civil, informative and educational.  As a GWM I have always felt uncomfortable around transgender people and have only known a few, all M2F.  I have never made derogatory comments or engaged in transgender bashing, but never understood or tried to understand why a man would want to become a woman.  Shows like this are important not only to enlighten the general public, but very useful in educating members of the LGBT community as well.

Thank you Autumn and Kim for helping me understand a bit more on the issue and grow as a person.

All To Easy
I think its all to easy for us gay men to think the identification we have with the transgender community is really good because of our not being accepted and its a little to easy to leave it at that.  To gay guys like me, who have a strong male gender identity, it is just far too easy to project our own experiences onto others instead of taking a minute to think of what it must be like to have a gender identity the exact opposite of our bodies.

In 1987 Bayard Rustin said "Twenty-five, thirty years ago, the barometer of human rights in the United States were black people. That is no longer true. The barometer for judging the character of people in regard to human rights is now those who consider themselves gay, homosexual, or lesbian."  Since we are three years short of being twenty-five years away from 1987, perhaps there is some edification in considering today the barometer is shifting away from LGB individuals to transgender individuals.

Well. . . .
I have to say Thank You, to both Autumn and Kim for bringing insigt and education to this broadcast.

Although the live chat kind of deteriorated, I think we all learned something.

This is what
I was so afraid we would miss.  That something was happening way too fast and was going to mean two communities may walk away from each other, not having been able to see the others humanity.  More than that, this type of day, this type of broadcast was something I knew would do so much.

Where I allowed my emotions to allow my beliefs by allowing myself to show disrespect and lack of careful consideration for the humanity of those who would read my words, there is nothing to but apologize.

Thank you for allowing me the tolerance and respect to speak here.

Autumn and Kim great job!  No, PERFECT job!

Autumn and Kim I applaud your going to this show, I wouldn't have.
I listened to about 40 minutes of the show, I'm too exhausted to stay up for more. We worked 12 hours making flower arrangements for a wedding tomorrow night. The finished arrangemnts completely fill a refrigerated truck, and still 20 more arrangemnts will be taken in seperate vans.
Rob opened his show declaring he wasn't talking to those who want them fired,(ME) and he defined those people as out of the mainstream. NO, you G*D DAMN hateful racist, misogynist homobigotted transphobic a$$wipes are OUT OF THE MAINSTREAM.
Any advertiser who sponsors this show, I will continue to boycott. Since I haven't heard the full program I can't say if any station management apologised. I demand Rob and Arnie be fired, and the station earnestly apologises, and guarantees this NEVER occurs again.

Here's a photo of the wedding we worked on for 2 days
I mentioned I was too exhausted last night, tonight I'm beyond exhausted, and sunburnt and a blister covers half the bottom of my foot.it was upper 90's and humid while we worked on this event, I thought sure I would have a heat stroke.
But the wedding reception turned out pretty, the reception spanned from sundown to night, and there were electric candles all over the reception that don't show in this photo, but I heard at night it got even prettier.

some details
the vases in the reflective pool are 5 ft tall to give some scale, the frosted bowls on the table light up from underneath to a rose color in the night.

Wow
That is amazing, I would have never known that the vases where that tall!  The lit up frosted bowls sound like they would be a spectacular thing to see.

If I ever get married, I'm one of those small and simple types, but what actually happens would depend on the guy I meet.

To work yourself so hard, to have the dedication to make someone's most special day truly amazing...  I think that speaks volumes to the kind of person you are.

Definitely a Louisiana wedding
They had a brass band play a second line the guests dance a block from the church to the reception. The grooms cake was a fleur de lis in Mardi Gras colors,(or LSU colors) purple, green, and gold. her wedding cake was beautiful, five foot tall with hydrangeas in between the risers on each level. The gifts for guests was jumbalaya mix and red bean packets.

The friend we worked with is the bride's uncle
His mother also does wedding flowers, but she is in her 70's undergoing chemo, so was unable to do the flowers for her grand daughter. She loved all the flowers, so we were glad it was just how she wanted it. The venue said this was the prettiest wedding reception they had seen, and the uncle had 20 people pressing business cards on him to find out who did the flowers. While this was a straight wedding, the uncle, and the bride's father and his partner are family.
