The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Every Fundamentalist Should Be Forced to Read Quote from Joe Bruno

Cross-posted at: http://www.tips-q.com/1026115-ny-joe-bruno-now-supports-same-sex-marriage

NY: Joe Bruno now supports same-sex marriage.

Joe BrunoFormer New York Senate Majority Leader, Republican Joe Bruno now says that he is a supporter of same-sex marriage. Although Bruno retired from the Senate last year, he continues to be an extremely influential party elder. Therefore, this represents a positive development for marriage equality in the Empire State.

As a relatively conservative Roman Catholic, I instinctively view marriage as the foundation of the family. However, that view really does conflict with the rights that are afforded all of us, This is America and we have inalienable rights … life is short and we should all be afforded the same opportunities and rights to enjoy it.

Pfft, they should be forced to read their damn bible
If they are going to vilify the LGBT community using the bible, they need to be vilifying the rest of the population as well when it comes to divorce.

But what do I know, our "Fierce Advocate" is doing the same crap.  You know god is in the mix.

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

right now
I guess Pony Joe Bruno is more of a "fierce advocate" for us than Obama. And this turd (Joe Bruno is indeed a turd - look it up.) even managed to keep his god in the mix while coming to favor equality.

I can't wait to read the responses from the holy screeching professional xtian set.

Also, this would have been nice while he was NY's senate majority leader. I guess a good question to ask is "why now?"

Electricity's for light bulbs!

Bruno's comment
Bruno gets to the heart of the issue: the historical distortion that has empowered various American churches to define the debate and set the terms for the discussion.  "Marriage" is a church term and should stay in church; "union" is a civil term and should be debated in the context of fairness and equality for everyone.  Belong to whatever grotesque church you want, but don't tell me I can't enter a legally recognized and legitimate union with all the benefits while you provide only a church-based reason.

"You are the rest of the world."

It's only a "church term"
because they stole it -- marriage was a civil institution before any Christian denomination got involved (or even existed).  Why wouldn't they just appropriate "unions" and demand that only people who fit their standards should be allowed legal access?  It's no more ridiculous than what they're already doing.

[ Parent ]
Exactly.
If "marriage" were a "church term", why does it appear all over our laws in every state in the Union and is granted, enforced and ended only by the power of the state?

Only the state can give you a marriage.  All that religions can do is give you a party called a wedding for the marriages they like.  That's it.

We've all grown up knowing every married couple is married only because of their marriage license and knowing that not all (and now fewer and fewer) people celebrate their marriage with a wedding in a religiious institution.  We all know this.  I'll never get how the bigots were able to convince so many people that being in the wedding business means you own marriage.

Another RETIRED politician in favor of gay rights...
Frankly, I almost wish these people would keep their yaps shut. It's like some kind of ritual, say your goodbyes to the other legislators, line up the speaking engagements or the law firm position, and then change your opinions on gay rights.

How about a politician supporting gay rights when they're actually in a position to do something about it?

Great timeing there, Joe
Amazing how many Republicans "come out" in favor of same sex marriage after they retire.

You know what?  I.  Don't. Care.  I don't care about Bruno or Cheney's opinion on same sex marriage because thy know and I know that it's irrelevant.  They can't loose any political capital any more, so having "unsafe" opinions is useless.

Bruno can get my respect when he convinces enough Republicans currently in the senate to vote pro-marriage rights.

So another Republican...
comes out in favor of SSM AFTER they are no longer in office, no longer have the power to change anything, and no longer have to face voters.

I guess the GOP is looking to make inraods with LGBT americas. Their mantra is that we will advocate your agenda once we are no longer in a position to do anything about it.

I guess it's nice...
That Bruno's on our side now... But what can he do about it? If the coup succeeds, Skelos DEFINITELY won't lift a finger to help us. If he allows a vote on marriage equality, it will be because he knows he has the votes to defeat it.

Want to save marriage equality in Maine? Ask me how! ;-)

I don't want them reading that quote because it makes no sense.
Let's say marriage is the foundation of the family.  How could that possibly conflict with making it equally available to all families?  Only some families deserve a foundation?

It's not a conflict at all.  What he's saying is that ALTHOUGH marriage is the foundation of the family, our damn Constituion says we STILL have to extend it to these other people -- as if LGBT families aren't families.

I don't need one bigot telling other bigots that you have to follow the law, even though you're right to be a bigot.

I prefer to look on the positive side
It has been a few years but I have had my share of conflicts with Bruno. I am not one of his fans.

Nevertheless, he was the leading force in defeating same-sex marriage in the Senate in 2007. He could have remained silent.

Whatever you make of the man, he remains a force in NY politics and the timing of his statement certainly favors us.

The notion that law supersedes religious doctrine is what this is all about. Personally, I like the phrasing. Your mileage  may vary.

I believe that we should get our equal rights by whatever legal means necessary.
And I'd be glad that Bruno's making the right decision even if it were for the wrong reasons.  I just think it does everybody more good in the long run to do the right things for the right reasons.

The best message isn't "do it even though you hate it", it's "do it because you'll benefit from it, too", as Tom Suozzi put it so well in his statement.

Since my first post, I've had the chance to read Bruno's statement in its enirety, and I find the above quote is the only objectionable bit!  The rest of his statement is actually quite good.  Better quotes from him include:

"However, my instincts tell me that homosexuals who wish to enter into the union of marriage are just like the rest of us and they ought to be free to enter into it."

and

"Church and State are separate powers."

Those quotes are what everybody should be paying attention to -- one from the heart and one from the Constitution.  Everyone can read the entire statement on towleroad at http://tinyurl.com/lanhzp

"family"
Yeah, I noticed that too.
"Uhm...lgbt people can't constitute a family?"

Plus the whole way "family" is used pisses me off anyway as a child free person. A family does NOT mean a couple and their child or children.

Fundie sez:
"B-b-b-but.....WHAT ABOUT THE SEX?????

I wasted ten minutes of my life reading that paragraph, and YOU sir, are not a True Christian (TM)!"

Tom Suozzi is a Catholic Italian-American NY politician marriage-equality convert who gets it right.
Marriage equality is the best thing for everybody, period.  From Friday's NYT: http://tinyurl.com/ld39r9

Too little, too late
Once again, someone who was in a position of power waits until after he gets out of office to support us.

Why didn't he have the balls to speak up in support of gay marriage while he was still in office?
