The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

More Female Vets Now Becoming Homeless... Oh, Look- Sarah Palin's Wearing Waders!

by: Louise

Tue Jul 07, 2009 at 20:00:00 PM EDT

This is a big problem, so why isn't it getting more national attention and discussion?

Gah...

The number of female service members who have become homeless after leaving the military has jumped dramatically in recent years, according to new government estimates, presenting the Veterans Administration with a challenge as it struggles to accommodate the hundreds of thousands of returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan.

As more women serve in combat zones, the share of female veterans who end up homeless, while still relatively small at an estimated 6,500, has nearly doubled over the last decade, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

For younger veterans, it is even more pronounced: One out of every 10 homeless vets under the age of 45 is now a woman, the statistics show.

And unlike their male counterparts, many have the added burden of being single parents.

Overall, female veterans are now between two and four times more likely to end up homeless than their civilian counterparts, according to the VA, most as a result of the same factors that contribute to homelessness among male veterans: mental trauma related to their military service and difficulty transitioning into the civilian economy.

But while veterans' services have been successfully reaching out to male veterans through shelters and intervention programs, women are more likely to fall through the cracks.

The trend has alarmed top lawmakers and veterans groups, who fear that the federal government - which is already straining to care for new veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, brain injuries, and other physical ailments - is ill-prepared to deal with the special needs of female veterans who find themselves on the street.

Wow- this is terrible news.... glad this isn't old news or had been reported before or anything.

What- it was? When?

Try  November 2008..

And July 2007..

More below the fold.

Louise :: More Female Vets Now Becoming Homeless... Oh, Look- Sarah Palin's Wearing Waders!

Of the 1.8 million female military veterans, Dogen was among the 7,000 to 8,000 who are homeless, as estimated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. She is among the few who have benefited from new housing specifically for female veterans, an initiative homeless advocates say falls far short of what is needed.

The homeless female veteran is a relatively new phenomenon because only recently have so many women - more than 190,000 in Iraq and Afghanistan alone - been serving in the military, said Todd DePastino, a historian at Waynesburg University who wrote a book on the history of homelessness.

The number of homeless female veterans have gone up - from 3 percent of all homeless veterans a decade ago to 5 percent, the VA says.

"It's a national embarrassment," said Paul Rieckhoff, executive director of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.

It's that and worse, imo. And what's confusing is that the most recent story claims there are 6500 homeless female veterans, the November 2008 story relates 7000-8000, and the July 2007 article estimates over 8000.

This shows a downward trend in the reported numbers, yet the percentages keep CLIMBING in the stories. Apparently the VA  really doesn't have a grasp on the real numbers of women involved...

How can supposed news media, like CNN, ABC or FoxNews, be blind to this issue?

I'm guessing because it's been alot more fun and interesting to follow the recently dubbed " Iquitarod"- a nasty little train sled wreck, if ever there were one.

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has gone fishing -- literally -- since her shocking announcement that she is resigning.

But the polarizing Palin resurfaced today on the morning news shows, wearing her waders but not taking the bait to make her political future clear.

Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee last year and in the conversation for 2012, told CNN that "all options are on the table" for her future and said she wants to stay involved in national public life.

"We have so many people who offer advice, but I'm going to continue to be, whether some of 'em like it or not, pretty darn independent, and not get wrapped up into a strong political machine that hasn't been extremely successful in some ways," she said on Fox News Channel. "I want to work, right now, for people who are going to work in office or out of office for the right things. Those principles that built up America, those who are inspired by the values of America, and will not deride or apologize for the values we hold as Americans. I'm gonna work for those people."

But she also told ABC's "Good Morning America" that she recognizes that her resignation -- disclosed in a rambling speech in the news dead zone of the Friday of July Fourth weekend -- might have damaged her prospects. "You know, politically speaking, if I die, I die. So be it," she said.

Good gravy, even Andrea Mitchell was there for "Salmon Fishing With Sarah"...

I did like Anchorage Daily News' take on this quote; the ad running along side this story. Kid you not:
Photobucket

"Don't Wait Until It's Too Late!"

Palin also told CNN that "I am not a quitter; I'm a fighter. Go figure...

"And unlike their male counterparts, many have the added burden of being single parents. "
i know what they're trying to say with that, but instead of calling them "single parents", as if they reproduced via parthenogenesis, i wish just once the whole story was made evident:
And unlike their male counterparts, many have the added burden of having been knocked up and then abandoned by said male counterparts.

It gets worse
According to a 2007 Department of Veterans Affairs survey a full 40% of homeless female vets were victims of rape at the hands of their fellow troops. 2007 Pentagon numbers indicate only 2,085 reported sexual assaults on a female troop population of over 200,000. This constitutes less than 20% of all rapes committed, if you look at data from sources other than official reporting. Why the discrepancy? 90% of rape victims are junior-ranking women whose average age is 21, while most of the perpetrators are higher-ranking non-commissioned officers or junior men with an average age of 28. Women who report rape are slut-shamed, blamed for daring to go out to the latrine at 0200 by themselves, harassed, persecuted, and beaten again by fellow soldiers. Fingers are pointed at the victims rather than the rapists. Military culture reinforces the idea of woman-as-commodity, and in the end the continued pain, harassment, persecution, demotion, and risk of continued assault is just not worth it to most female troops. Better to just let it go and deal with it internally as best you can until you can get out and away.

Rape at the hands of fellow troops is a huge factor in PTSD in female soldiers, which contributes to inability to hold down a job, maintain a reasonable standard of living, and function on a daily basis. I should know. I'm a female veteran, and I didn't report my rapist, either. And yes, I was raped as "punishment" for being a woman in a position of authority, for being a lesbian, and as blackmail to keep my secret. If DADT didn't exist, you bet your ass I'd have reported the bastard, and strung him up myself. But in the end, the fear of being outed and losing all my benefits, having no career, my security clearance revoked due to trumped-up "mental instability," and the rest of my life ruined convinced me to keep silent.

LGBT servicemembers aren't threats to troops. Heterosexual male rapists are.

Oh, WOW
Thanks for the reference, ArmyVet. Site looks fantastic. The front-page article supporting LT Choi, and talking about how DADT disproportionately affects women made me tear up. Definitely will be spending some time there.

In the meantime, I'm still working in MI as a civilian, calling out male troops who make misogynist statements, educating leaders on how to change rape culture in the military, and helping other female troops stand up for themselves in that climate. I have to direct my anger SOMEWHERE productive or I'll explode.

Wasn't it...
Wasn't it Bill O'reilly that said not to long ago that there was no such thing as a homeless veteran.  The hypocrisy of so-called conservatives, most of whom claim Christian values and morality as their inspiration, pisses me off to no end.

They could help the situation by promoting truth, or at the least shut up about things they are clueless about, instead they make it worse by making up lies and leading their flocks into stupidity and ignorance.

Not to be outdone... Rachel M was also in waders on her show tonight.

Yep, she had gone fishing on her vacation, too.   But she didn't quit.

I want to know the percentage that take advantage of the expanded GI BIll benefits, hope they are similar.

There are more than 3 million vacant houses in the U.S.
The mortgage crisis has resulted in several million vacant houses, townhouses and condos in the U.S.

While the president is still spending billions on Bush's Iraq war and billions on a stimulus package that hasn't done much, I really wonder why the government doesn't buy up some of the foreclosed and vacant homes and turn them over to local and state non-profits for housing for the homeless?

I know, NIMBY sentiment is still a reality in many parts of the country but, would these people prefer vacant houses on their block that stand to be vandalized?

It's a win-win, in my opinion.

People ask, "How have you guys managed to stay so long?" I tell them, "Don't sweat the small stuff." It's mostly small stuff.

Homeless Women Veterans
Hi Louise,

Thanks for the heart wrenching update on our brave Women veterans.

I worked for the VA for 8 years as in ICU RN. I never served such a great bunch of folks.

You have asked in this post how the MSM never got behind this story. Easy. They have for the most part not been behind a story of any substance since the Washington Post Watergate expose.

On topic, most homeless Americans are homeless and this has been documented for decades.  Now that brave Women have joined the ranks as veterans in ever increasing numbers, their homeless statistics were certain to rise and I bet in probably direct proportions to their male peers.

There are many programs fighting for survival within and out of the VA to support these fine people. Most of which lost their way after suffering post traumatic stres, physical and other mental or psychological injury. Sometimes these were added to an already fragile state of being, pushing them over the edge.

As a city dweller, it is often hard to turn down the money requests from the street persons I regularly walk by as I know they have about 50/50 chance of being a Vet.

My goal is to contiue to serving these brave souls by demanding better homeless care for all, better mental health support for all, especially veterans and their loved ones and calling out hypocrisy of the right AND left wingers who parrot on about what is means to be a patriot but then turn their backs on the very people who truely are.

Bravo, keep the pressure on. Thanks Louise.

Here's where an Edit function would be nice on this blog's software..

Do you mean "most homeless Americans are women?" If so, I never realized that.

You know, having my entire family
Male, granted, having served in the armed forces (me, not so much, my rap sheet at the time kept me out), All I honestly can think about, when I hear a story like this male/female rape/or not honourably/dishonourably discharged is a lyric from an old Poison song "Something to Believe In"

I drive by the homeless sleeping on a cold dark street
Like bodies in an open grave
Underneath the broken old neon sign
That used to read JESUS SAVES

Now I'm no X-tian, never was, never will be, and whether you agree or disagree with what the present or prior administration has done with our armed forces, we've done a pretty good job, as a society, of treating our veterans like shit.

And I, for a number of years, have refused to accept this.  I donate a fair bit of my meager income to veterans support groups, deceased veterans family support groups, and always make it a point to use the Memorial Day weekend as it was intended, not just a Monday off work to get drunk and party.  And I think that's something that BOTH sides of the pathetic 2-party system in this country have forgotten.  These young (and even some older) men and women sacrificed their lives, in service of those that either can't, or won't lay our lives on the line for an ideal.

And that's fucking sad.

I may have rambled a bit here, as I've just gotten home from the bar, but I hope I've made some sort of sense here.
