Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

HRC, Servicemembers United kick off National DADT repeal tour today

by: Pam Spaulding

Wed Jul 08, 2009 at 12:00:00 PM EDT

UPDATE: Here is video of the presser today from HRC -- on the left, Rep. Patrick Murphy (transcript) and Eric Alva (transcript).

If you live in Philadelphia, Trenton, NJ, Virginia Beach, VA, Phoenix, Kansas City, MO, or Orlando and Tampa in the Sunshine State, you'll be able to catch the "Voices of Honor: A Generation Under 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell.'" tour as it hits the road. Sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign, the tour is in partnership with Servicemembers United, the nation's largest organization of gay and lesbian troops and veterans and their straight allies.

It kicks off with an announcement event today at the National Press Club.

U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-PA), announced today the launch of "Voices of Honor: A Generation Under 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell.'" The national tour highlights the discriminatory law that hurts military readiness and national security while putting American soldiers fighting overseas at risk.  To learn more online, visit: www.hrc.org/VoicesOfHonor.

"This tour focuses on the voices and stories of the qualified, patriotic gay and lesbian service members who are forced out of the U.S. Armed Services simply because of who they are," said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese.  "Poll after poll continues to show the vast majority of Americans, including the majority of active members of the Armed Services, support the right of gay and lesbian service members to serve openly and honestly.  We must repeal this discriminatory policy and ensure that our military can recruit and retain the best and the brightest troops regardless of their sexual orientation."

More below the fold.

"'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' is an antiquated holdover from a previous era," said Alex Nicholson, Executive Director of Servicemembers United. "The men and women in the modern military, both gay, lesbian, and straight, are professionals.  Servicemembers United and HRC are going on the road with the 'Voices of Honor' tour to show the American public who gay service members really are, and that our fellow troops simply do not care about sexual orientation anymore."

"'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' clearly isn't working for our military, and it hurts national security and military readiness at a time when America is fighting in two wars in Iraq and Afghanistan," said U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-PA).  "My time in Iraq taught me that our military needs the best and the brightest who are willing to serve- and that means all Americans, regardless of their orientation.  Discharging brave and talented service members from our armed forces is contrary to the values that our military fights for and that our nation holds dear."

"Voices of Honor" features a diverse group of gay, lesbian, and straight veterans who have served under the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. The tour includes former Marine Staff Sgt. Eric Alva, the first U.S. soldier wounded in the Iraq war; Jarrod Chlapowski, a former U.S. Army Korean linguist who opted to not re-enlist because of DADT and is currently a public policy advocate at the Human Rights Campaign; Alex Nicholson, a U.S. Army veteran fluent in Arabic discharged under DADT and current executive director of Servicemembers United; Army Staff Sgt. Genevieve Chase, a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and Executive Director of American Women Veterans; and others standing united and speaking out for the repeal of this discriminatory policy that continues to harm our nation's security.  For veteran profiles, visit: http://www.hrc.org/sites/voice...

Interestingly, Joint Chiefs head Admiral Mullen is also at the National Press Club today for a separate event.

Philadelphia, PA;
Trenton, NJ;
Virginia Beach, VA;
Phoenix, AZ;

BRAVO TO THEM!

...It's fantastic news that Cong. Murphy who not only is vehemently against DADT but is close to Barack is now the lead sponsor in the House of the repeal bill after former lead Ellen Tauscher resigned to take a job in the State Department. [As Pam's noted, a gay man and victim of DADT is running for her seat: www.anthonywoodsforcongress.com]

And I hope everyone appreciates what a sacrifice of their personal lives the gay vets from Servicemembers United doing this tour are making.

Also, the expert Palm Center at UC Santa Barbara has just released another legal analysis, following their earlier one on Obama's "stop-loss" powers, about other legal ways discharges could END NOW while Congress trudges toward repeal. One can read it at:

http://www.palmcenter.org/file...

And, The New Republic just pointed out that public support for ending DADT is:

"25 points higher than the percentage of Americans who endorse Obama's handling of health care,

19 points higher than the percentage who currently support the war in Afghanistan,

and 18 points higher than the percentage who approve of the administration's economic policies."

It has been THIRTY-FOUR YEARS since Leonard Matlovich became the first servicemember to lose his career fighting the ban. Why is Obama delaying another minute?

Orlando again?
I don't understand the folks that decide what cities should be visited on these tours. Well actually I do, they visited Orlando two years ago also (if I remember right, one of the servicemen lives there and another one on the tour lives in Tampa).

Why don't they tour cities with large military bases: like Jacksonville where there are THREE navy bases!  I live in Jacksonville, the navy is very important to this city and by having the tour stop here it would be big news.  There are tens of thousands of people in the armed forces and their families here. It would get a lot more discussion than visiting Orlando yet again.

How about Fayetteville, NC or Pensacola, FL or Colorado Springs, CO or San Antonio, TX or Savannah (Hinesville), GA.  We keep ignoring the smaller more conservative places that have huge military bases.  It is these locations where we can more effectively change the hearts and minds of soldiers and people affected by this change.

It's similar to the Proposition 8 error, where the California interior and more conservative areas were ignored to the detriment of the outcome.  We should call attention to the policy at military bases and colleges.

Let's learn from our mistakes!

This is HRC's second stab at doing something real. Not bad for an organization that's been around for decades.
In an earlier foray into activism, HRC sent a delegation to Jena Louisiana a year or two ago to defend the Jena Six, ignoring the rampant racism of a few in the GLBT communities who sided with David Duke, describing the Jena Six as hip hop thugs because they retaliated against racists.

As the radicalization heats up, particularly among LGBT folks right centrist groups like HRC, Stonewall Democrats and the Log Cabin Republicans will occasionally make a stab at activism so they don't become totally discredited and so they can try to control the pace of things.

Basically though, HRC is a front group for the Democrats, the party that's totally responsible for DADT and other bigoted bills like DOMA. DADT was signed by a bigot named Bill Clinton and Democrats as well as Republicans voted for it overwhelmingly. It's a key part of Clinton's legacy of bigotry and support for the war aims of Big Oil. The main thrust of DADT is to closet LGBT servicemembers, forcing them to lie, isolating them and opening them up to the kind of murderous violence that took the lives of Barry Winchell and August Provost.

I agree with the thrust of those in SU and SLDN who want to end the military bigotry codified in Clinton's DADT. But I think, as do many GLBT antiwar activists, that we should actively discourage people from our communities and everyone else from enlisting in a war of genocide for oil. The Clinton-Bush-Obama oil war wastes the lives kills GIs by the thousands and murders Iraqi, Afghan and Pakistani civilians in vast numbers. As of today 6475 US and satellite troops have been killed and well over 30,000 wounded, over half seriously.

Support for enlistment in a genocidal war for oil is treason to the GLBT and antiwar movements and to the GIs and civilians being killed to make Haliburton and Chevron-Texaco richer.

The looter rich much prefer working with Democrats like Obama and the Clintons - they're greedier, they fool more people and they're able to get away with a lot more than Republicans.
