Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Stonewall Democrats put the LGBT Money Where the Leadership Is

by: waymonhudson

Tue Jul 14, 2009 at 10:25:18 AM EDT

The folks over at the National Stonewall Democrats, the LGBT Democratic organization,  have decided to put their support and money behind the politicians that support our community after what is seen by many as the frustratingly slow movement on LGBT rights by supposedly pro-equality Democrats.

PJM.jpgIt seems that the gAyTM might open up again to those who take strong leadership roles in the fight for LGBT rights and equality.  Case in point: Congressman Patrick Murphy, who on July 8th became the lead sponsor for H.R. 1283, the Military Readiness Enhancement Act, which is the Congressional effort to overturn "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

The Stonewall Dems lay it our very simply:
When our Democratic leaders stand up for equality, they need to feel our support. Join Stonewall Democrats in supporting Patrick Murphy's bold leadership.
Much more after the jump...
waymonhudson :: Stonewall Democrats put the LGBT Money Where the Leadership Is
Congressman Murphy is the first Iraq war veteran elected to Congress.  He's not only taken the lead on the legislation, but has been making the rounds on the talk shows (like the Rachel Maddow Show on July 7th) to talk about the need for repeal of DADT.

MP26980-2T.jpgTo show support for Murphy, the Stonewall Democrats have set up a "Thank You, Congressman Murphy" petition online and set up a fundraising page on Act Blue to support Congressman Murphy's reelection.

Within 24 hours, the page has already raised over $1,500.  As the number grows, you can bet the sudden support for LGBT rights from previously silent politicians will too.

It is vitally important that we hold our leaders accountable, especially those who have wooed our community for years with promises like the Democrats.  But the other side of the coin is also true: we must support those who step forward and take the lead when others are silent.

You can bet Congressman Murphy will now have a huge rainbow colored target on his back from the far-right and powerful anti-gay fundamentalist political groups.  Let's show our strength as a community as well.

I just don't like it when gays talk about the gAyTM like they have a part in it
but are actually happy to coast on other people's generosity.

If everyone had been as dedicated to defeating Prop 8 from the outset as I was, it never would have passed. I didn't even live in CA at the time, but I gave $1,500, $1,000 of which was very early on when most gays were still complacently predicting that it could NEVER pass, not in CALIFORNIA. Imagine if all gays nationwide had given $1500 to defeat 8. We'd have had eighteen BILLION dollars. But we had nowhere near that because of all the free-riders. I'd say way fewer than 10% of gays did ANYTHING, and probably fewer than 1% gave as much as I did. And don't tell me about how everyone has different means; I was a student at the time, living on loans.

So yes, it is everyone's business.

and don't tell me....anything
If you want to brag about your donation...knock yourself out. Leave me out of your rants. I won't tell you a second time.

Pender.. please don't pick on specific commenter here..

...and in general it is a good question did/can we give to 'the cause' this way.

I am still considering it. Most of us feel really burned in having donated to Obama and Prop H8 and getting burned by both.

So this certainly makes some sense. I happen to have stopped HRC donations and now send them to Victory Fund.  May make one here too. But that is no concern of yours.

Why is it no concern of ours?
We all stand to gain if regular donations to our equality were an expectation in the gay community. My money supports your equality as well as mine, and your money would support my equality as well as yours. So since we all have a stake in each others' donations, why isn't it our concern?

Pay to Play!
Remember, first you pay your money, THEN they support your goals.  It's not the other way around because, well, that would be effective and make more sense.  Do it the SUCKER WAY!  The DEMOCRAT WAY!

In case anyone was wondering,
Murphy represents the people of Pennsylvania's 8th congressional district.

Nice to see there are some political grown-ups amongst the LGBT ranks.

Pride in Pennsylvania
Murphy is one of the few reasons for me to have any pride about having been born and raised in the state.

But he wasn't enough to keep me there.

No one is free when others are oppressed!

Great
This is what we need to do. If they step up, we'll help them out. We need to get it into politicians minds that they work for us.

We plan on a direct contribution to Patrick Murphy's campaign.
We will support the lawmakers that support us.

Come, come, my conservative friend, wipe the dew off your spectacles, and see that the world is moving."
-Elizabeth Cady Stanton

Murphy sets a good example
A couple of years ago I was doing some consulting work in Pennsylvania and met Murphy when he came to a community planning meeting.  At the time I was very impressed with his down-to-earth, straightforward way of connecting with people.

As a young veteran he has more legitimacy to speak against DADT than almost any other member of Congress, but as a young member of Congress he is taking a significant risk to take a leadership role on its repeal.  I agree with the others who think we need to reward this kind of support.  But as someone else pointed out, from now on we make sure elected officials like Murphy play, then they can get some pay from the gAyTM.

Donate, everybody!
Because your political and social value is determined in dollars!

Definition?
How exactly are the Stonewall Democrats defining "politicians that support our community"?  Until fairly recently, being a "fierce advocate" has been enough for them (particularly among the members of the local branch).  I hope that's changed and they are now determined to back only Democrats who back their fierce advocacy with fierce ACTION.  Supporting Murphy is a great start.  Let's hope they don't back off this.

Cynic, n.  A blackguard whose faulty vision sees things as they are, not as they ought to be.
