Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Buy a New Truck, Get an AK-47

by: shaz4005

But what could possibly go wrong?!

Max Motors of Butler, Mo. (50 miles south of Kansas City) is taking these arms-for-cars deals to a whole 'nother level. They're offering an AK-47 with the purchase of a truck.

What is up with these crazy people?

As you know, this is an assault rifle designed for military combat.  It is not designed for self-defense or hunting (animals).

The dealership's owner Mark Muller seems oddly giddy. From Kansas City's KCTV:

"We really are different than the big city dealers," Muller said.

The actual promotion gives those who buy a vehicle a voucher redeemable at a gun shop for the $450 dollars it costs to get an AK-47. "That way it separates you from anything bad that could happen," Muller said. "We'll put it in the hands of professionals who do this every day."

The AK-47 ups the ante on a promotion Muller did last year, giving away vouchers for the price of the Caltec pistol. Muller proudly shows off the same pistol he carries in his pocket."We already did handguns," Muller said. "Let's do something more fun -- AKs. You ever shot an AK? Oh, they're a blast."

Remind me to stay away from Kansas City.

What's wrong
is that they're assuming their customers don't ALREADY have an AK.

Honestly; what ARE these people thinking...

What they should be offering is more ammo! You can never have enough and can always stock up on more ammo!

Nothing wrong with owning 2
If more gays and atheists weren't afraid of guns, we could have overthrown King Shrub instead of waiting for our "fierce advocate."

[ Parent ]
Hey, It's never possible to have enough AK's.
But having extra ammo is always nice too.

[ Parent ]
Just be glad they're not able
to give away low-yield nuclear weapons.

Cynic, n.  A blackguard whose faulty vision sees things as they are, not as they ought to be.
-Bierce, The Devil's Dictionary

I don't understand why not
Their rationale is that the 2nd Amendment is absolute*.  I've never understood why they get all "up in arms" when some people want to draw a line at assault rifles, yet they do believe that somehow there is an acceptable line.

*Except of course for convicted felons, who I guess are on the honor system because the gun-nuts also don't want any background check restrictions on sales.

Of course that "well regulated militia" part of the second amendment is just there for decoration in their view, and was also ignored by their activist Supreme Court last year.

Personally I think it might be a good idea if the second amendment only applied to weapons that were in existence when it was ratified.  The NRA should be the National Musket Association.

Ed Helms on The Daily Show had a classic piece about an Arizona bill to allow guns in bars.

Memorable line "Alcohol causes conflicts, firearms resolve conflicts - it's a no brainer."

[ Parent ]
The "activist Supreme Court"...
correctly determined, based partly on the writings of the men who wrote the constitution in the first place, that the second amendment was intended as an individual right, the same as all the other amendments.  Why would the second amendment be the only one written strictly as a "group" amendment when all the others are clearly meant to be individual rights?

[ Parent ]
AK-47
Hey, I want one!  They cost too much for my budget or I'd already have one!  They're only a semi-automatic, no different than the AR-15 or an SKS.  The ammo is relatively weak for a rifle, about the same as a 30-30 in power level.  An adequite deer cartridge, but not much more than that.  Even the gangs don't use them much these days, too bulky, and you can't cut the barrel down because of the gas action.

Hey!! Whatever happened to Buy American!
AK (avtomat kalashnikova) is a Russian make. (What's a Russian make? Oh about 20 rubles an hour). And it traces back to the Sturmgewehr 44, a Nazi design.

Seriously, the AK is usually of Chinese or Russian manufacture, as is the SKS. And you're right, the 7.62 AK round is weak, it's an intermediate round (the NATO 7.62 mm was comparable to the .308 Winchester, more powerful -- and far bulkier). Intermediate AK rounds are lousy accuracy, maybe 300m.

Unamerican, that's what it is. And lousy deer hunting.

(AR-15/M-16 series weapons are just as inaccurate and tend to be unreliable as well. Maybe just like the American-made trucks from this dealership. Ya think?)

[ Parent ]
Que?
I don't know that you can find a "more" reliable semi-automatic rifle than the Kalashnikov Pattern Rifle.  Accuracy, you've got a point, but they're reliable as all hell.

The AR Pattern Rifles, yeah, they're unreliable in my experience, mine jams on a regular basis, but there are folks shooting 600M targets in competition with them, they are quite accurate, as long as you can clean them well enough to keep them operating....

[ Parent ]
Since these are the "civilian" models
they're just a rugged but innacurate spin on the usual semiautomatic rifle.  The lack of accuracy makes them unsuitable for hunting and disappointing for target shooting.

Of course, while these are formally civilian-model firearms and not capable of full-auto fire, there's a simple enough modification possible that it's a popular weapon for the white-supremacist "militia" types to convert to full-auto.  Other than the interest for a few military-history geeks (because the Kalashnikov family is actually quite significant historically, right up to the present), that's the main appeal -- it's known as a weapon for use against the government and against "those people".

"Easily Convertable"
Really?   I'm a gunsmith, and I don't know an easy way to convert any of these weapons (AR, AK, FN, Galil, StG.) that are specifically civilian models, to operate in a burst, or full-auto mode.   I know enough about operation to spend some serious time with a lathe and mill and make them do such a thing, but it's not as simple as just ordering some parts, slapping them in the receiver, and going to town.

I'm always amazed at this common misconception.

[ Parent ]
It seems there must be
a significant number of gunsmiths willing to make the conversion, then.  There's a semi-official outdoor shooting range where I used to go with my ex-bf's father -- and we always knew it was time to clear out when the skinheads and militia types started showing up with AKs that were clearly putting out rounds faster than the trigger can be pulled.

...which is also a pretty worrying though.

[ Parent ]
Well
There's a couple of ways that that's easily possible.

1) You can buy a "parts kit" which consists of all milspec parts for a given firearm, but has been rendered inoperable (usually by demilling or cutting the receiver), and then build it back up, with a hand built reciever, illegal as all hell, but not hard to do, as you've already got all the parts (I have a couple I've done this with, but they're built to conform with current regulations, and the replacement receivers are not able to be converted to any sort of Full-Automatic operation).

2)  People seem to forget this, but it is perfectly legal for an American Citizen to own a Full-Automatic firearm, under a few conditions.   The 1934 NFA created what are known as Class 3 Firearms, which without getting into too much detail, basically means "Full-Auto" (there's some other stuff on there, I just can't recall off the top of my head), which for a $200 Transfer tax, and a Class 3 Authorised Licensed Broker, and a nice Background check (very similar to what one would go through for Government Security Clearances), and you can own your own personal "Machine Gun".  Now things have been tweaked a bit over the years, and to the best of my knowledge, today, the only Class 3 Firearms available to civilians, are those that were imported, or manufactured before 1986, and I believe there are some flat out banned models that have been written in through statute.   I'll have to do some digging and see if I can't find some links.

3)  Many models of "Semi-Automatic" firearms, can be put into a condition known as "bump-fire" (the M1 Garand most notably).   I don't know that I can really describe how to do it, but it will cause a semi-automatic firearm to operate just like a fully-automatic one, except once you get the weapon to do it, it's going to keep going till the magazine is empty.   Some, I'm sure, just read this and said "wait a minute here, then we should be doing something about all the semi-automatic things out there too then!"  No, not really.  The downside to bump-firing a weapon, is twofold.   a) Your accuracy will go to hell, due to the way the weapon must be held in order to make it bump-fire, basically reducing your weapon to nothing more than a very deadly toy, and b) you're damned likely to mess your weapon up.  It's not easy on them.

I'm not saying that the skinhead jagoffs at the range don't have a buddy that can't do the conversions for them (it's really not something that's a secret, but it does take some training and technical proficiency to do.)  But it's not the only way they could be doing what you describe.

[ Parent ]
I have fired one
and it actually was a lot of fun!

I am starting to get worried about the militia nuts though.  They seem to have gained a lot of ground since us libruls put a brown Muslim terrist ferr'ner in to usurp the presidency. Lot of violent talk coming from those yahoos lately, and not just at gun shows anymore.

Well Armed Queers...
...Don't Get Bashed.

I wish I needed a new truck. And had a job to pay for one. And lived in whichever square state this is happening in... wait. Never mind on that last one. Georgia may be backward, but it snows about once a year and we all get a day off work for it. Except I don't have a job.. damn. Now I'm all depressed. Probably a good thing I don't have a gun.

Religious beliefs are not a basis upon which to affirm or deny civil rights.

Well Armed Queers ...
Also get bashed and might be dead or unconscious before they know what's going on.

Well armed queers might accidentally kill themselves.

[ Parent ]
That is why you take a gun safety course
and then take a marksmanship course and then follow the rules.

Just wondering;
Did you just get in a car and start driving when you were 16 or did you have drivers ED?

Anybody who is going to use a firearm without some education before hand deserves to blow their brains out.
They don't belong in the gene pool.

[ Parent ]
Exactly.
Besides which, a hell of a lot more people are killed every year by accidents with cars than with guns.

Stormie
Religious beliefs are not a basis upon which to affirm or deny civil rights.

[ Parent ]
Fact
Gun accidents are way down on the list.

[ Parent ]
I will have to look
But you're far more likely, statistically, to be killed by your own doctor, than you are a firearm.   WAY more likely, like an order of magnitude or two more likely.  I know I've got the link buried in my bookmarks somewhere, to some US Department of Health And Human Services study with all the actual numbers.  I'll have to see if I can't find it again.

[ Parent ]
Ahh, here it is.
Source for the data was the Centers for Disease Control, not Dept of HHS, so apologies for that.  This is only for 2002, but these numbers don't change that much.

http://www.the-eggman.com/writ...

For all age groups, intentional and accidental, firearms related deaths in the US in 2002 accounted for only 1.2% of deaths.   That's a statistical Non-Issue.

And for accidental firearm related deaths, it's a whole 0.8%.  So maybe we should be concentrating our efforts in places that actually might reduce death?  Even with the paltry firearms education offered, mandatory or not, 1.2% is pretty damn low.

[ Parent ]
I think it is great
The second amendment was for defending against a hostile or otherwise overly oppressive government.

LiZ

Constitution
Why is it that everyone wants guns, but no ever uses them for their constitutionally intended purpose?

You would think that sometime in the past 8 years would have been a perfect time for some Americans to exercise their real 2nd amendment rights, but no one even tried to.

[ Parent ]
Well
Prosperity has a way of making people lazy.
When was the last time your tax bill made it impossible for you to pay your rent?

This why the anti-gun nutz (on both the left and right) are working hard to disarm the public in the wake of a collapsing economy.

The best thing to happen to gun and ammo sails was the election of Obama.

[ Parent ]
Is Max Motors a tank dealership by any chance?

I live in Kansas City
There are too many hot headed rednecks that would love to get their hands on these. As a business plan - it's going to sell.

As a gun owning gay guy myself... we don't need AK-47s on the streets of KC.

I didn't like guns, but our household here in Louisiana is armed
Our room mate is very good with his shotgun, he's a Viet Nam vet. When I lived in Minneapolis I voted to stop assault rifles....I wouldn't anymore.
I got myself to self defense classes, taught by a lesbian, mostly for raped and abused women, after I had been beaten and raped. The karate she taught me came in handy when 3 assailants came at me with clubs, and I walked away unscaythed.
Last night I was on Deseret News, and some Mormon thug was saying how they should not only shove gays off their Plaza, they should shove them out of their city(Salt Lake City.)I doubt they published my comment, but I informed him that LGBT gun clubs have grown exponentially since 2004 election in all 50 states. He's gonna shove the wrong queer and be met with a handgun. We aren't your grandma's hairdressers ....anymore.

"race, taste. and History finally overcome....and you ain't there"
by Tony Kushner

btw I called out Deseret News for their LDS bias
and they published my post warning their bashers not to shove gays, cuz they'll shove the wrong queer...one that's armed.

2 cents
My  2 cents are that this works like most other free offers at dealers. What will happen is that they will use this as bargaining tool once you are in the dealership. "Sure we can take another $500 off but that means that you can't get an AK"

Will it create more traffic to the dealer? Yes it will.

As to the comments about it being designed as a military rifle. Most modern weapons were.

Accuracy of an AK depends on who made it how it was made. The basic AK design is used by several Russian Sniper systems.

The real point is IMHO you have to be a supporter of all rights, that  in my book means you have to support the right of free speech, freedom of religion, to marry who you want, to serve your country, not to be fired for anything but job performance and the right to bear arms among others.

In my book you are either for all rights or you are for discrimination. Not a popular viewpoint but it is mine, and I support your right to have another viewpoint.

Watch out there, Wacko!
That's a pretty libERTARIAN point of view in this libERAL forum and is often met with much scorn from the locals...I've been strung up more than once for having similar views. Why I've even been accused of being a libertarian TROLL!

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms..disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed one." - Thomas Jefferson
Jefferson was quoting Cesare Beccaria, Criminologist in 1764, with a fact that continues to be true today!

[ Parent ]
I don't see a problem here
As a Firearms Instructor I must say that there is nothing wrong, illegal or stupid about this promotion.  Sadly, this article demonstrates the need for education so that people understand that this is not about giving out fully automatic weapons to people.  It is anything but.  It's just a rifle.  No more, No less.  It is not fully auto because that has been illegal since 1934. The need for education in the Liberal and LGBT communities, of which I am a part, is the exact reason I became a Firearms Instructor.

But don't take my word for it, please listen to Officer Leroy Pyle of the San Jose Police Department and his demonstration using only the AK-47 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Finally, anyone in the Bay Area that would like to learn how to properly and safely use a firearm and learn firearm facts and not firearm myths like presented here, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Besser ein ende mit Schrecken als ein Schrecken ohne ende

Additionally
As you know, this is an assault rifle designed for military combat.  It is not designed for self-defense or hunting (animals)
.

That is a factually incorrect statement. Again, watch the attached video for Firearms Facts about the AK-47.

Besser ein ende mit Schrecken als ein Schrecken ohne ende

Fun Fact:
The famed inventor of the AK-47, Mikhail T. Kalashnikov, is still alive. He will turn 90 years old this November 10th.

This Wacko needs to be put out of business
Max Motors is a franchisee of all three American auto manufacturers; Ford (Ford), GM (Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Pontiac) and Chrysler (Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep).  The auto makers are having a bad enough time without some wacko dealer associating assault weapons as an accessory to the fledging American auto brands.

"This Wacko" deserves an innovative advertising award!
The auto makers are having a bad enough time without some wacko dealer associating assault weapons as an accessory to the fledging American auto brands.

It's interesting that you would qualify a car dealership that is taking an innovative new approach to marketing as a wacko. I'd say less wacko and more brilliant. Think about how much they would have had to pay for this much publicity!

Not quite sure what you meant by "fledging (to furnish with or as if with feathers or plumage) American auto brands." Perhaps you meant foundering (to become wrecked; fail utterly) or floundering (to struggle clumsily or helplessly). If you meant to imply that the auto companies are fledgling (young, new, or inexperienced), then let me take this opportunity to remind you that each of the big 3 is roughly 100 years old and that the current round of bailouts is not the first for this industry.
