The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

So Why Don't We Have These Kind Of Looney Tunes Discussions Over Coffee?

by: Autumn Sandeen

Tue Aug 04, 2009 at 13:30:00 PM EDT

Well, the spiritual discussions held over cups of Folgers, discussed in a church foyer and retold at the Family Research Council Blog, seem as stale and acidic as a morning cup of mocha from a second rate coffee house. It's discussion over highly caffeinated brews where crazy worries are stoked in an atmosphere of total fear. Cup Of CoffeeFrom the FRC blog piece by Robert Morrison, entitled Coffee Conversations after Church:

It's not that unusual for me to have fellow worshipers come up to me after church, over coffee. Normally, however, we swap family stories, talk about children, grandchildren, hobbies, and common interests in our town. Yesterday, however, two friends sought me out with some urgency.

My first friend of the coffee hour was in anguish over his daughter's decision to live the gay lifestyle. He and his wife had raised two daughters in their loving Christian home. Their younger daughter married and has blessed them with grandchildren. Their elder daughter pursued an academic career. He described this daughter as a brilliant scholar, a Ph.D. candidate in philosophy at a major university. But he and his wife are heartbroken over their daughter's decision not only to live in a lesbian relationship with another woman, but also her plan to change her sex. Their daughter is beginning hormone treatments soon. Distraught over their daughter's choices, he appealed to me for help...

Naturally, Mr. Morrison directed his worshiper to PFOX -- Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays.

But, the fear just doesn't stop at the daughter announcing she's a lesbian! Oh no! suck down the caffeination and get ready for the tilt-a-whirl...

My friend was especially concerned that his lesbian daughter would take the extra step--sex change surgery--seeking to alter forever her sexual identity. Will "gender reassignment surgery" be covered under President Obama's health care takeover, he asked, explaining that his daughter does not currently have the money to cover such expenses. I told him I cannot see how such surgery would not be included in the Obama plan. And if the President or Congress does not include it, activist judges surely will. He pleaded for consideration of parents. "Our wills give our entire estate to the two daughters we gave birth to" he said poignantly. "Now, we will have only one daughter. Where are our rights?"

My head spins in this whirl of Looney Tunes thinking. We went from having a lesbian daughter to a trans son...to the "President Obama's health care takeover" to the federal government paying for genital reconstruction surgery, to activist judges, to wills, to parents' rights over adult children...all in one crazy, whirly, fear-stoking paragraph!

So why don't we have these kind of Looney Tunes discussions over coffee? I guess it's because we're just not that batsh*t crazy () and fearful enough...yet!
Perhaps Mr. Morrison and his fellow worshiper should consider switching to decaf.

they mentioned their wills, but forgot to complain about the "death tax" -
they almost managed to get all the talking points into one paragraph.

Coffee-flavored Koolaid?
Eww... I'll stick to Green Mountain flavors instead.

"It goes on one at a time, it starts when you care to act, it starts when you do it again after they said no, it starts when you say We and know who you mean, and each day you mean one more."

Can't they just be happy?
If their daughter transitions, she'll no longer be living the "lesbian lifestyle"!

These people have a really warped sense of their "rights".  Poor oppressed minorities, these fundamentalist Christians.

I also get a sense
that getting married at 19 and popping out some babies is considered morally superior in this family to pursuing an academic career.  Too much thinking is obviously bad for a young lady's moral development.

You need to understand
Anti-intellectualism is part of the fundamentalist world view.

Afterall, you can't trust them smart people with their science and book learnin.

Cisgender. Because "Genetic" is so 2006.

all in one crazy, fear-stoking paragraph
A paragraph covering that many frightening things looks a bit suspect. It is quite convenient timing for two friends to approach him with a scenario that fits in, so well, with all his talking points.

We've heard others talk about their "friends." I can't help wondering if his friends actually exist.

Let's set a date, Autumn!
So why don't we have these kind of Looney Tunes discussions over coffee? I guess it's because we're just not that batsh*t crazy () and fearful enough...yet!

I can be plenty batsh*t crazy over coffee. You just tell me when and where and what the subject is. :-P

And as far as their wills, if they really wanted to still leave that inheritance to the eldest daughter, merely change her name in the will to reflect her new life. Wills are changed all the time. They know that, we know that. But most likely they just want to completely cut her out now.

Umm, let's discuss...

Kitty Bon-Bon
...the hilarious antics of my kats!

I'll be one of those middle-aged, apartment dwelling, stereotypes of single women who drone on endlessly about what Kitty Bon-Bon and Maggie have been up to...
Sounds looney enough for Looney Tunes coffeehouse discussion, eh?

I think I may have beat you to that!
Though, I drone endlessly about my late dog, Chip. And I'm not middle-aged, though I am an apartment dweller and OMG, that's really sad. Cute kitteh!

Heh. Hey, let's talk about the impending takeover of the world by aliens. What, too Looney Tunes? :-P

"Oh, I thought you meant a specific plan. With maps and stuff." -Buffy

[ Parent ]
Right. Like Barack Obama...

kryptonite...If he's not from Canada, Australia, or Kenya, then I heard him say on the campaign trail -- in an event he shared a stage on with that Panamanian McCain (y'know, the candidate that our future President Sarah Palin ran on the ticket with!) -- that he was from the planet Krypton!

Talk about a birther issue! False President Obama is from the planet Krypton! Now to dig out my secret stash of green kryptonite! We can stop Fake President Obama with the green kryptonite before he uses his Illudium Phew-36 Explosive Space Modualator to blow up the earth!

That sinister, evil alien in the white house we have! He needs to be stopped before he brings in his ally Marvin The Martian!
Hmm. Maybe I need some decaf?

LOL!
Where is Lex Luthor when you need him?

wait, what?
He pleaded for consideration of parents. "Our wills give our entire estate to the two daughters we gave birth to" he said poignantly. "Now, we will have only one daughter. Where are our rights?"

Oh noes! Our wills say our two daughters get everything! Now we only have one daughter! Which means some socialist Kenyan Muslin terrier-cavortin' birth certificate forger gets the other half of our stuff! Or something! Also, we can't change our wills, ever.

What is it with these so-called christians?
I thought the bible thumpers gave everything to jesus as a way to get into heaven.  Riches are a sin according to their book, right?

OH, oops, they get to pick and choose the verses they must live by.

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

Too Bad They Bred
Looking like breeders remorse to me.

The Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States. - The U.S. Constitution Article IV.Section. 2. Clause 1

Where do these simps get the idea
that parents have any kind of right to dictate how their adult children will live in perpetuity?  They obviously regard their daughters as possessions or pets of some kind, not as living, breathing adults entitled to live their own lives as they see fit.  "Good God!  Our daughter isn't acquiescing to our wishes in every single way!  She wants to be her own person!  Oh, it's the end of the world!"  Maybe someday they'll grow up and display the kind of maturity their trans daughter/son is showing.

I am not interested in picking up crumbs of compassion thrown from the table of someone who considers himself my master. I want the full menu of rights.  -Archbishop Desmond Tutu

Frightening
They live in a frightening world, don't they?  SO MANY things to be mortally afraid of!

Sometimes in the past, I've envied fundamentalist Christians their sense of Absolute Moral Certainty - everything is so black and white, there are no uncomfortable questions or gray areas.  They don't have to spend mental energy on neurotic self-examination or moral quandaries: the pastor tells them what's right and what's wrong, and they just go along with it.  A simpler, more elegant way to live, right?

But I guess this is the flipside: they have to stay in a state of constant terror that the Dark Side will overwhelm them, simply because they've reclassified some 90% of human experience into the Dark Side.

So I guess I don't envy them their certainty quite as much as I thought.

I don't know....
during the Bush years, I found myself freaking out in every possible direction.

The difference is that all the evil I saw turned out to be real (which coincidently, these people would not find all that evil :( )

Gee, that's funny
I thought fundieloon households weren't able to "create" gay children. That's what they keep telling us when they shriek about equal marriage and adoption!

wait, ya'll missed the best part of this
My friend was especially concerned that his lesbian daughter would take the extra step-sex change surgery-seeking to alter forever her sexual identity. Will "gender reassignment surgery" be covered under President Obama's health care takeover, he asked, explaining that his daughter does not currently have the money to cover such expenses. He pleaded for consideration of parents. "Our wills give our entire estate to the two daughters we gave birth to" he said poignantly. "Now, we will have only one daughter. Where are our rights?"

ya gotta love the fundamentalist's belief that, any time somebody does or believes something they don't support, those people are violating their "right" to infringe upon the rights of others

Oh dear Lord!
"brilliant scholar, a Ph.D. candidate"

She sounds so lost and troubled. May God have mercy on her poor soul.

Simple answer, Autumn
Because we don't have nearly as many imaginary friends as Robert Morrison does to facilitate these kinds of discussions. Seriously, how much of this shit goes on solely in his own head? How many fundie parents really, honestly go in one breath from "my lesbian daughter is really a trans son" to "will the Obama health care plan pay for SRS"?

WTFever. You can't ever take what religious nuts say on faith. (Ba dum bum. Thank you, I'll be here all week.)

God save ornery old queens! - kevinchi

Federal $$ for the surgery
It sounds like a no brainer to me. Of course it should be covered! It's a medical condition. It should be covered.

Perhaps the whole thing is a right wing fiction
constructed to attack a series of liberal positions in sequence.

I tell you Chica that no greater abomination exists than women denying their spirit of sisterhood and instead becoming the oppressor. -Rebeca, Universidad Complutense de Madrid

News flash!
You don't HAVE rights over your adult children, wingnuts! Who would even think that? Oh, that's right--imaginary people. Who also probably think Obama will force nationality-changing surgery on God-fearin' patriots to make them foreign socialist invaders (like him.) It is indeed a terrifying world when you're surrounded by the likes of us. And, for the likes of us, it's a bit scary when sarcasm & mockery can barely top the source material. We're pointing & laughing as hard & fast as we CAN, fundies--let us catch our breath, for pete's sake!
Seriously, Authmn, I don't know how you read all this stuff without snapping. It's hard enough reading the bits you share. You get the Kiss On The Head Award for service above & beyond.

Oh, but this one was so entertaining!

Seriously, if you read these things as entertainment, it can be pretty funny stuff.

This one by the FRC blog entry was just so sheer over-the-moon crazy sounding I just had to post on it. ZOMG, I just can't read stuff as looney sounding as this blog entry was without rolling on the floor laughing!

The only reason I can't find it that way...
Particularly as a function of where I previously resided and my own family I know that far too many people truly believe such things.

Now, if you excuse me, I'm off to chase away the memories of the Focus on the Family radio programming I was forced to listen to in my youth.

My Comment - in the moderation queue
Here's what I wrote:
I'll quote a presentation given to the American Psychiatric Association, not by by a psychiatrist but by an expert in urology and biology:
Gender Identity is that innate sense of who you are in this world with reference to your sexuality and behavior, not necessarily corresponding to your genitalia and reproductive organs. Transgenders are atypical and "think" as the opposite gender. Certain areas of the brain have been shown to be sexually dimorphic. They are different in structure and numbers of neurons in males versus females....Gender Identity cannot be predicted from anatomy (Reiner). Brain gender identity is determined very early in fetal development, but gender expression, expressed as behaviors requires hormonal, environmental, social and cultural interactions, which evolve with time. One cannot deny the profound effects of Testosterone, Estradiol and other steroids on genital differentiation in-utero or their effects on behavior from birth or the physical and mental cross gender changes caused by exogenous hormones, but gender identity is determined before and persists in spite of these effects.
In other words, there are biological and neuroanatomical men born looking like girls. It's rare, perhaps 1 in 3000, but it happens. From private correspondence with the author, one of a number of experts on the subject:
Hi Zoe,

Yes, we gave our presentation to 60 plus psychiatrists from the US, AU, FR, IT, EU, UK, Holland etc.

We spoke for 2 1/2 hours on why cross gender identity was a normal inherited variation of humans. We showed how Transgender Brains think, smell, and hear like the opposite sex....
...
My greatest personal compliment came from Frank Kruijver, from Holland, whose research of the human brain in TSs started it all. He thought we have taken his work very far in our understanding of the human brain.

So what has this rare congenital anomaly got to do with the situation?

Basically, this man had not two daughters, but a son and a daughter. And despite out of perfectly pardonable ignorance he raised his son as a girl, it's not a matter of choice or "lifestyle" but biology. Now, again out of ignorance, he's lamenting that his efforts to force his son to be Gay haven't worked. And that his son insists on being straight, and also wants to have the rest of his body corrected to align with his male brain, a brain that was male since the 26th week after conception, long before birth.

This terrible distress the family feels is the result of them not knowing the biological facts, and having completely wrong misconceptions. In fact, they should be celebrating the fact that their boy has courage, and integrity. That they should be proud of, that despite their understandable mistakes due to lack of knowledge, he is a true Man, no matter what his appearance.

I wish FOTF [should have said FRC] would look at the evidence, and correct some of their own misconceptions about this issue. Family support is very important, crucial, in such cases. It's also very difficult for Christians born with this condition, who have incontrovertible evidence on their side, to be anathematised by well-meaning but ignorant pastors and spiritual advisors.

Yes, these people have actually tried to brainwash their son into being Gay. Ironic, isn't it? Of course it doesn't actually work.... any more than "reparative therapy" to brainwash someone into being straight does

And despite his condition - one that causes real, intense distress without treatment, trust me on that - the son appears to be an outstanding success any parent, be they Left or Right, Gay or Straight, Atheist or Fundie, should be proud of.

There is no situation so complex it can't get even worse

Imaginary Friends
Since this man's name isn't Gamp, perhaps it's unfair of me to suggest that his friends are called Harris.
