Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

First Maine Marriage Equality Television Ad For 'No On 1' Begins Airing Today

by: Louise

Thu Aug 20, 2009 at 07:32:21 AM EDT

I absolutely love this ad; it's very strong, uses REAL Mainers and their families (not actors from away), and has a simple clear message and appeal.

7:25am on WCSH6, commercial break from "Today"- First Viewing On Air!

A preview of the ad here, exactly as it is running this morning on my television and thousands of others across the Pine Tree state. Take a look and see what you think:

From WCSH-6

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) -- The first television advertisements in an anticipated referendum on Maine's gay marriage law begin airing Thursday across the state.

Carisa Cunningham from Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders said the advertisements are airing in multiple markets in Maine. Details will be announced Thursday afternoon by the EqualityMaine Foundation, Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders and the Maine Civil Liberties Union Foundation.

Maine's gay marriage law was scheduled to take effect next month, but it's been sidetracked as state election officials verify petitions submitted to force a statewide referendum.

Charlie observed that the ad does not tell viewers to "Vote No On 1". I would add that there is no logo from the campaign attached to the ad.

The reason for this is because EqualityMaine, MCLU, and GLAD produced the ad and it is in no way connected to the official campaign.

A reminder: We have today and tomorrow ONLY to raise $10,000, that will then be matched by an anonymous donor- let's do this, folks! :)

I will have much more information regarding other happenings as the day goes on... exciting times in Maine!

Please feel free to give feedback, comments, thoughts and observations...

Yes, it was a good ad :)
I think it would've helped a bit if it said to vote no on 1, but what are you gonna do huh?

Um, it's an educational ad
Funded with (c)3 dollars. So no can do.

But wait, there's more!

Fantastic Ad
Love the integration of LGBT families with the "normal" ones, and that more traditional family types predominate. Not only does that convey the message that all types of people care about equality, (like, I don't know, our own Louise, perhaps) not just gays and lesbians. However, it also conveys a more subtle, but just as important message, and that was the proportion of traditional family types to LGBT families was probably about what it is in real life. How can a few families getting legal protections affect all those other families? The answer is it can't.

That's the way it's done.
Fantastic. Upbeat, real people. The perfect counter to noms doom and gloom scare tactics.

I'll be honest
When I first saw it, both online as I was composing this post and as I saw it on WCSH-6 (our local NBC affiliate out of Portland), I got chills and little tears in my eyes:

It moved me deeply, as a native Mainer, and stirred my sense of pride in my state and our inherent sense of FAIRNESS.

Now, if the same reaction occurs in the majority of the Maine voters, Maine will CONTINUE to be "the way Life should be"...

Strong ad which shows all families
The organizations should feel proud of the quality and tone of this ad. It doesn't leave room for scare mongering attack ad to counter it.

excellent!
That ad is beautiful visually, well designed, and puts the issue in the proper perspective.

I do hope the groups continue to publicize that a "No" vote is the right way to vote for marriage equality, though... very important to help people be clear on that.

Beautiful!
By the way, did anyone catch the story out of Bangor's WLBZ2?

Wedding Anniversary Sparks Gay Marriage Debate

http://www.wlbz2.com/news/loca...

The reason I ask is because I can't seem to find the video clip.  I know it ran because I got an email today from Bob Emrich bemoaning its positive coverage of the Maine couple in the story.  Bob has got his minions sending emails to WLBZ complaining about it.  I'm wondering if that's why the video won't load?  Anyways, sorry, kinda O/T, but I'm curious.  The way Bob described it, it sounded like a worthy clip.

Also couldn't get the readers' comments to open!!

It's a great start
I found it moving and beautiful.

Made me remind my husband that I wouldn't be upset to live in Maine. :)

What I would most like to see No On 1 do, before the haters even get on the board, is define the campaign ahead of time. They have to get out there and define it before the other side begins defining it FOR them -- this is what I feel has lost us Proposition 8, and may lose us the healthcare fight.

There needs to be an ad that explains what voting NO ON 1 will do, very clearly and plainly, and what it WON'T do, to emplace firmly in voters' minds that all it will do is mean all Mainers can marry the person they love, and that it WON'T mean we're coming after your children, we're going to force curriculum into schools, and churches will have to do this that and the other or be taxed. The religious freedom clause needs to be firmly and clearly explained. No On 1 must do this, or all these arguments will be used just as effectively in Maine as they were in California. The sooner I see an ad go up that explains this, the more optimistic I will be that Mainers will vote to protect equality.

Very well done...

The unique thing about it is the identifiers of not just names but what cities the speakers are from...brilliant reinforcer connecting pride in the state with equality for all in it.

Here's a LGBT Rights good article from conservative blog Townhall
Odd Silence On Gay marriage
by Stave Chapman
BOTH Washington and Maine should use.
Chapman asked both outspoken advocates against Gay marriage and for it to make predictions what will happen in a year from now, in States with legal same sex marriages. The opponents wouldn't make any predictions, the proponents said there would be no disernable differences in those states. Chapman concludes with this:
"In a few years, we won't have to rely on such forecasts, because the facts will be there for all to see. And they should settle the issue once and for all.

But I have a strong suspicion that both sides of the debate are right. The supporters of same-sex marriage are right in predicting that it will have no bad side effects. And the opponents are right not to make predictions."

Steve Chapman's strategy could be used by new media journalists
Stick a video camera in the opponent's faces and ask them to tell you in a few years how same sex marriage will have measurable differences in States with marriage equality. It gets the enemy on the record when their predictions fail, and it gets them on camera saying NOTHING.

win win

Great Ad
Now the question is, does it work with those voters we need to move to our side? I don't think it's impossible, but it's an uphill climb...

Great ad, but be prepared
for Schubert-Flint's negative ads about the evils of the gay influence on children.

http://www.protectmarriage.com...

I showed it to my straight coworkers
one of them cried and wanted to watch it again.

I have another coworker who is somewhat conservative and was born and raised in Maine. Her parents still live in Jackman, I think.

I've forwarded it to her for her opinion.

...and the Mainer coworker...
...really liked it and thought it was positive and a good ad.

Wow. I'm actually pretty surprised.
