Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Maine Couple Celebrates 40th Anniversary

(h/t ChinoBlanco and Dawn in Maine)

This is a beautiful love story, first covered by Kerry Eleveld on Advocate.com.

Kimmel and Schwizer have lived in Hancock, Maine, a town of approximately 2,500, since the 1980s, and have taken an active role in the community -- serving on city planning boards and participating in church leadership (their local United Church of Christ congregation voted to become open and affirming of LGBT people two years ago).

"It's a community that we have really become an integral part of since we moved up here," Kimmel says, noting that Hancock, which leans conservative, has voted pro-LGBT on every one of the four nondiscrimination measures that has come before it since 1995.

"I suspect that's partly because Ron and I are such a visible couple in this community, and everybody knows that gay people are just like everybody else and they deserve rights," he says.

This week, Mainers got the privilege of meeting Doug and Ron as well via their televisions, as the couple celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.

HANCOCK (NEWS CENTER) -- To celebrate their forty years together as a couple, Ron Schwizer and Doug Kimmel gathered with friends and neighbors for a party.

But, Schwizer and Kimmel say the event is about more than their anniversary.

"I guess the main thing is the idea that same-sex couples have lived in Maine as committed couples," Kimmel explained. "They contribute to the community and should be treated as equally as any couple. We should be allowed to celebrate that commitment with the word marriage."

In June, the governor and the state legislature passed the state's first marriage equality act. The law granted gay couples the right to marry in Maine.

"Getting the support, knowing we have the legal supports and rights even though they don't apply to federal laws would make a difference," Schwizer said. "I would have every intention of following through with a legal ceremony."

An error; the law passed in May- but a minor quibble...

Marc Mutty of Stand for Marriage Maine had this to say:

When contacted by NEWS CENTER regarding Kimmel and Schwizer's event, Mark Mutty, the executive chair of Stand For Marriage Maine applauded the couple for their longevity.

But he was quick to add that their marriage does not exist in Maine.

"Obviously it's not true," Mutty stated. "The law does not provide for it in the State of Maine. Come the people's vote in November, that will be made crystal clear."

Mutty pointed out that in the past the Catholic Diocese of Maine has lent its support to gay rights issues in Maine. He adds that this is an issue of protecting the true definition of marriage.

"Congratulations to them for being together for that long and being happy," Mutty exclaimed. "We celebrate that for them. We just don't see the correlation here. The point is two people can get along and have a relationship similar to marriage, but it lacks the basic characteristics of a true marriage."

Kudos to NewsCenter's Scott Sassone, WLBZ-2 (Bangor) and their sister station WCSH-6 (Portland) for running a very real, positive and upbeat report.

"lacks the characteristics of a true marriage"
What in the hell does that mean?  Does he mean the kind of marriage where there is one man and one woman and the man hunts and the woman gathers and they have 10 children and the woman stays pregnant and by the hearth for 80 years?  He's an idiot.  I see plenty of opposite sex marriage that looks just like these guy's marriage. Together and sharing a life for over 40 years sans children.

The Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States. - The U.S. Constitution Article IV.Section. 2. Clause 1

exactly

Here is a couple who have been together a long time and by their own admission they want to remain together for a longer time. Committed themselves to each other in a ceremony 30 years ago before it was, if you'll excuse the word, "trendy" to do that.

So what are those basic characteristics?

Well, obviously I can't speak for the executive director of Stand for Marriage.  But it doesn't sound like he is speaking of love, honor, devotion, commitment.  Sounds like the same old "need a penis and a vagina -- and one of each only please".

If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it's a marriage
Er, something like that. :P Cute couple, it was sad when Mutty says that Maine doesn't legally recognize their marriage. Let's remedy that.

Linguistics/semiotics FAIL...
He adds that this is an issue of protecting the true definition of marriage.

True definition?  True...definition.  Those two words together are insane.

From what I gather . . .
Marc Mutty's "true marriage" characteristic boils down to straight sex. One man, one woman, "coming together as one." Which results in procreation.

So my question then is, is his sole definition of marriage based on sex? That's it? So does that mean when a straight couple ISN'T having sex, they're not married anymore? Do they have to be constantly copulating? What about couples who are impotent? Are they suddenly not married?

He's either applying the same definition of sex to marriage, or he isn't. If it's the latter, what are the other "true" characteristics? Can he distinguish those characteristics between a same-sex couple and a straight couple?

And about procreation. If a couple who is having sex doesn't procreate, are they not married then?

It's esoteric logic that can't be applied. These people are grasping at straws.

One other thought
Using Mutty's definition of marriage (basically, copying and pasting the definition of straight sex) - if a man and a woman have a one night stand, are they suddenly now married?

Actually...
Using his definition of "one man and one woman" he's saying that he's okay with incest provided one of the people is a man and the other is a woman.  ;-)
