Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

2010 Iowa Gubernatorial Candidate: I Will Repeal Gay Marriage

by: Louise

Thu Sep 10, 2009 at 12:59:40 PM EDT

Expect to see more of this guy next year.

One of the six Republican candidates in the challenge for governor of Iowa has promised that if successful, he will repeal gay marriage in the state.

Iowa legalised gay marriage in April but Republican challenger Bob Vander Plaats told reporters this week he would use an executive order to put the issue up to the legislature and to a ballot initiative.

He may challenge current Iowa governor Chet Culver for the state leadership in 2010.

He and Culver have run against each other before; Vander Platt has made repeated trips towards the Governor's office.

But this is a new one- before a single vote has been cast, Vander Platt ALREADY is giving the reason why the Democrats will try to oust him from office!

Republican Bob Vander Plaats, 46, a Sioux City businessman, officially announced his campaign in his hometown of Sheldon on Monday by saying he would issue an executive order putting the issue same-sex marriage in the hands of the legislature and the voters of Iowa on his first day in office.

In June, Vander Plaats also said he would issue an executive order stopping same-sex marriage until the legislature either passes a law legalizing it or passes a constitutional amendment banning it.

He furthermore said after doing so, he said he fully expects Democrats to try to remove him from office for "promoting lawlessness."

Vander Platt has "friends in high places" (can't wait for the jokes of the Huckabee connection as "Rascal Platts")- and looky who's writing checks again!

Vander Plaats is a former high school teacher and principal and was formerly chief executive of Opportunities Unlimited, a Sioux health organization.

Vander Plaats, ran for governor in 2002 and lost in the primary, ran again in 2006 before being chosen as Jim Nussle's running mate, but lost to Chet Culver.

He has already has the endorsements of several prominent conservative Republicans, including former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, for whose 2008 presidential campaign Vander Plaats served as state chairman.

Last month during a special election for the Iowa house the National Organization for Marriage made an $86K radio and television buy on behalf of Iowa House candidate Stephen Burgmeier, who also promised to overturn marriage equality. Burgmeier lost that bid, but no doubt Vander Plaats has an eye on an endorsement and some NOM cash as well.

No doubt he'll get the NOM cash... he's in lockstep with Mags and Brian. Here is the candidate, lamenting the court's decision back in April:

Reminds Me Of James Hartline
but less shriveled.

No wonder he's obsessed with us.

Can he unilaterally repeal equal marriage?
What is this about using an executive order to "put the matter to the legislature"? Does he have the authority to dictate what bills the legislature will pass while even the President of the United States can only ask pretty-please?

Help me out here. Does the governor of Iowa have such power, or is he just another ego-maniacal Republican with delusions of grandeur and a Hitler complex?

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." - Theodore Roosevelt

I don't think this is an LGBT discrimination issue, or it shouldn't be.
I think this is an issue of using a state (or Federal) constitution as a tool denying rights to state or national citizens. Constitutions, state or otherwhise, were written to preserve and enshrine rights. That is their only function.   When you pervert them as mechanisms to actively deny rights to a segment of the population, however clouded in their purpose, then you pervert their intent.

In the face of those who will use the Constitution as a purposeful means of denying rights to its citizens, I don't really give a shit that I'm gay, lesbian, transgendered, bisexual, or that I plant marigolds and hate grapefruit.  That there are those out there who would use the Constitution as a tool of discrimination is the real abomination. Homophobia is a subset of that argument.

I would slightly disagree
The principle purpose of a constitution is to define the process and limits of government. The protection of rights is ancillary to the declared limits on government power: In the United States, free speech exists not because it is guaranteed, but because the Constitution prohibits Congress (and the states) from making any law that would abridge the freedom of speech.

I'm not sure where free speech enter this debate
I took it as a 14th Amendment issue.  But otherwhise we agree, techbear.

I'd like to know if he has that authority also
I find it very questionable that a governor could issue an executive order to initiate a ballot initiative.  It's also very suspect that he could halt same-sex marriages while not halting all marriages. It seems to me the guy doesn't have a leg to stand on with the claims he's making.  Even in the unlikely event that he becomes the governor and issues his hateful executive orders, they'll be challenged in court immediately.  god when will they just let us live our lives in peace.

They'll let us live our lives in peace
when they're six feet under.

NOM ~ "Mine is an honorable task and I shall drown out anyone who claims otherwise!"

[ Parent ]
I doubt he actually has the power
Hell he might not even really care about gay marriage. I suspect this has more to do with rallying the support of idiot bigots then actually making a plan.

I can't believe the executive order thing is legal

Here's the official process of Iowa amendments.
Amendments need to be approved by simple majorities in both the House and Senate in two consecutive general assemblies, then must be approved by a simple majority of voters in the next general election. Each general assembly lasts for two years.

Iowans are against equality based on polls.
However, nobody has successfully placed this on the ballot in the last decade and this is the same process as CT that stalled out.

Also the guy NOM just blew $86k on lost to a candidate who is for equality.
Even though momentum isn't really on our side, the law requires so much that you need a populace that is really passionate about bigotry to get anything done.

"I can't believe the executive order thing is legal"
It wouldn't be - and even if the Legislature didn't impeach him for it, it would open up the state to a shitload of lawsuits so long as Varnum v. Brien is the law of the state.

Yep...

Those fiscally irresponsible republicans strike again.

A better thought
I Will Repeal Gay Marriage
How about repealing your Tom DeLay-esque 'melted shingle' hairstyle before you start 'repealing' things relating to other people's lives, eh?

>^..^<

If I where Iowan I would be more worried about this guys idea of democracy
Anyone crazy enough to think that an executive order in any state trumps a Supreme Court ruling, hasn't gotten the basic civics education of a sixth grader. I would be much more worried about what else this guy thinks he can do by lying to his constituents or with the powers he thinks the governor's office possesses.

Always thinking about it...

Operation Chaos?
Donate a nominal amount of money to the least offensive Republican? Maybe we could work to make Bob Vander Plaats not as competitive. If Congresman Wilson is facing the wrath of the ActBlue Army, Vanderplaats can do too.  The guy may not be economically progressive like most of you may like. But maybe small less than 15.00 contributions to Vander Plaat's opponent will be helpful.

Find someone socially inclusive and help them out. I might give $10 to the most mainstream Republican in Iowa running for governor.

That might be Brain De .... Branstad.
I don't really know his postion on any thing, but he started being governor, so might not be the current sort of crazy
