Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Need a Vacation? Want to Protect Marriage Equality in Maine? (UPDATED w/ DKos/R2K Poll Results!!)

by: atdnext

Thu Sep 17, 2009 at 18:25:00 PM EDT

Btw, here's my report on the brand new DKos/R2K poll numbers. We're down 46-48, but the numbers are super close and we can win this if we get involved NOW!

(Also at Nevada Progressive)

If this doesn't inspire you, I don't know what will.

Yes, I know this is Maine. But remember, this can happen anywhere. It happened here in Nevada. It happened in California. It happened in Oregon. It happened in Arizona. It's happened in states all over the place, but now we have a chance to turn the tide in Maine.

atdnext :: Need a Vacation? Want to Protect Marriage Equality in Maine? (UPDATED w/ DKos/R2K Poll Results!!)
If Mainers succeed in protecting marriage equality in their state, it will help turn the tide nationwide. It can set a precedent of voters affirming equal rights. It can give us hope in places like my home state of Nevada to one day replace Question 2 and SB 283 with real, complete civil marriage equality.

But hey, I won't annoy you with any more of my platitudes. I'll let Jesse Connolly, campaign manager for No on 1/Protect Maine Equality, explain why it's important for us to help.

The national movement for marriage equality is at a tipping point-- if we defeat this referendum in Maine, we'll look back on November 2009 as a watershed moment in our history. Be part of this history in the making.  Join us for a Volunteer Vacation in Maine.

Volunteer Vacation is simple.  During the month leading up to the election, the NO on 1 campaign is hosting a team of highly motivated volunteers to serve as full-time, volunteer campaign staff.  Once you arrive in Maine, you will receive a full orientation, be assigned to a team, and be trained on various aspects of the campaign.  You will get an intensive, hands-on campaign experience while working with a great team of people from around the country.

Sign up here to learn more about the program and to learn about housing options and travel assistance.

Be part of history.  Join us for a Volunteer Vacation in Maine.

Even if you can't do a volunteer vacation yourself, please donate what you can to help someone else make the trip. Just do whatever you can to help your LGBT brothers and sisters under attack in Maine. And in the coming days, I'll let you know about other volunteer opportunities as soon as I find out about them.

Just remember the Maine... Election, that is.

Got tips?
Please send what you can to No on 1 so they can have the resources they need to beat the radical right and protect marriage equality!

Act on Principles and make equality happen.

Great Video!
very inspiring.  Now where's the one from the other side showing the catholic church passing around the second basket and closing some churches?  or the video of Maggie Gallagher repeating the phrase "We're not bigots, we're not bigots".  It seems all the people in the state that want to veto this is hiding out.

Yes, they literally are!
Check out this video from Portland's CBS affiliate. Tony Perkins & Co. wanted their H8 rally off-limits to the media, but they got in anyway to show it.

Act on Principles and make equality happen.

The numbers
It's a dead heat... no matter how either side spins it. The pollster didn't interview cellphone-only users, only landlines. That'd probably make a 1 or 2% difference, at most. But it matters when it's close like this. And we still have over 50 days to mobilize, anything can happen... remember, a year ago, Palin was uber popular last week.

What's good is that, in the crosstabs, No is winning the independents. :) We need to keep that up and work those Democrats!

the "undecideds" are actually "no" votes
That's what happened in California - the polls showed Measure 8 failing but if the "undecideds" were counted as "no" votes, then the polls would have predicted it passing. We saw a similar effect here in Washington state with a ballot measure in 1997.  I hate to say this but I think you're really about 6-8 points behind.

Seniors disapprove of marriage equality. What if Seniors lost their rights and protections?
In response to the Daily Kos poll that shows that the majority of older people would vote no on marriage equality, I pose the question of what if seniors lost their rights to employments discrimination protection, and seniors lost their jobs to those who are younger than them:

..as per the Poll Results.
Get them people out in DISTRICT 2!!

It's the Hammer of JUSTICE,
It's the Bell of FREEDOM,
It's the Song about LOVE between,
my Brothers and my Sisters
...All over this Land.

My analysis:
These numbers are likely accurate.  They reflect essentially no change since the last public poll on this issue in March.  Look at the second question in the poll and the numbers are 49-47, exactly the result from the March poll.

Erick is right.  The undecideds should be counted as votes against us.  However, since the 2d question in the poll reduces some of the undecideds who were simply confused by the 1st question, I think the spread is about 6 percent, not 8.

Six percent is doable.  We have a few things going for us.  First and most importantly, the Kos poll, for some reason, omitted the part of Question 1 that talks about how the legislation protects religious liberty.  That is crucial, since most of the opposition comes from Republicans, supporting Question 1 by a 3-1 margin.  If the religious liberty language were included, it is not unrealistic to think that we could halve the spread.

The other thing going for us is turnout. This is an off-year election and the entire electorate will not be turning out.  If we have a superior field operation, that can lop off several percentage points off of the other side's lead.

So while this poll is disappointing, this is still doable.  If the poll showed us double digits down, I would be really depressed.  But this shows that we are behind but within striking distance.

One thing No on 1 will have to consider is revising their ad strategy.  They have been on the air for 3 weeks and are not seeing the benefit.  I liked their ads, but you have to go with the data.  They need to appeal to more Republicans.

The way I read that poll, we can win
No on 1 has worked to identify supportive voters since last year. It will depend on turnout -- and why our number of volunteers on the ground is crucial to win.
