Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Prop H8 and CaliforniWashingMaine

by: atdnext

Wed Sep 23, 2009 at 11:57:41 AM EDT

( - promoted by Louise)

(Also at Nevada Progressive)

UPDATE: The No on 1 campaign just released a statement on the recycled Yes on H8 California ad now showing in Maine and the now exposed Concerned Women for America Maine Director posing as a "public school teacher" in the Maine version of the ad. No on 1 campaign manager Jesse Connolly said, "These are extreme views [...] and we believe that Maine voters will see through this cast of characters and focus on the real issue of treating all Maine families with dignity and respect." The full statement is down in the comments. -atdnext, 1:50 PM ET

UPDATE 2: Gerald at Dirigo Blue just got a response from the Maine Department of Education. They also refute the Yes on 1 lies about schools. I'll also include the full statement in the comments. - atdnext, 2:00 PM ET

It's happening...

All over again!

atdnext :: Prop H8 and CaliforniWashingMaine
This pack of lies has now made its way from Massachusetts to California to Maine. Again, it's the same ol' friggin' story. And just like California, the religious right is heavily invested in stripping many thousands of Maine families of their fundamental civil rights.

Real families will be hurt if Question 1 passes in Maine...

Just like real families in California are now suffering because of Prop H8.

Fortunately, groups like Courage Campaign and Restore Equality 2010 are working to undo the damage of H8 in California. But in the mean time, we can't let the same mistake be made again. That's why it's critical that we do whatever we can to ensure that Maine LGBT families don't suffer the same painful loss that California's families had to endure. Please give whatever you can to No on 1 so they can fight the lies.

And by the way, don't believe the radical right when they say they're only concerned about "traditional marriage". The State of Washington is not even voting on marriage this November, but they are already using many of the same ugly attacks tossed out in Maine and California to strip Washington families of domestic partner rights. Yes, you heard me right, comprehensive domestic partnerships in Washington state are under attack!

Just today, a new poll on Referendum 71 (R-71) has been released by the Approve 71 campaign. While R-71 is ahead 51-44, it's a small margin that leaves no room for error or complacency. If R-71 is rejected, then many thousands of Washington families will lose even the most basic legal protections that even California and Nevada now have with comprehensive domestic partnerships.

Now let me say this again. R-71 is not even about marriage equality, yet the radical right is out to strip many thousands of Washington families of even the most basic civil rights and legal protections. This should be a wake-up call to all of us love warriors for equality that the forces of bigotry won't be satisfied until we're all locked away in the closet again.

This is why it's critical that we get involved!

2009 is an off-year election. Most people typically don't vote in these special election. That's why we progressives must work extra hard to turn out enough votes to defeat Question 1 in Maine and approve R-71 in Washington. Failure to do so could very well set back further pro-equality legislation on the federal level. Failure to do so could very well hurt the California campaign for marriage equality in 2010. Failure to do so could jeopardize even our domestic partnerships in Nevada.

Believe me, our opponents won't give up easily. Even if you think you don't care about Washington and Maine, reconsider. Remember the pain we all felt when Prop H8 passed in California. Imagine feeling it all over again... And then do something to stop this from happening all over again! Please do whatever you can to help defeat Question 1 in Maine and/or approve R-71 in Washington. Let's defeat the same radical right forces behind Prop H8 once and for all so we can move forward in fighting for full equality.

Btw, here's the full No on 1 statement on the new Yes on 1 ad.

NO on 1 Attacks False Political Ad That Highlights Activist
Reminds Voters of Legal and Editorial Rejection of Claims

The NO on 1 campaign today charged that the new political ad opposing Maine's equality law not only restates a claim that educators, lawyers and Maine newspapers have rejected as false and misleading, but uses an activist to portray the role of a public school teacher.  The NO on 1 campaign also noted that the political ad is an exact replica of the $2 million ad campaign launched to pass Proposition 8 in California last fall.

The teacher in the latest Maine ad is, in fact, the state director of Concerned Women for America.  In addition, Charla Bansley the featured and identified "Ellsworth teacher" does not teach in the public schools, but in a private, Christian school, the Calvery Chapel Christian School.

Bansley has a long history of activism from opposing stem cell research to characterizing marriage equality supporters as "forces of evil."  She has also opposed diversity training, tolerance classes and anti-harassment programs in the Maine schools, and has been a featured spokesperson in anti-marriage events, including the recent closed rally with national spokespeople this month in the Augusta Civic Center.

"Concerned Women for America has long opposed any measure of fairness or decency when it comes to gay and lesbian Americans," said Jesse Connolly, NO on 1's campaign manager.  "They oppose anti-bullying measures in schools and diversity training when, in fact, public schools are simply ensuring an environment where all kids can be safe and can thrive.

"These are extreme views in any context and we believe that Maine voters will see through this cast of characters and focus on the real issue of treating all Maine families with dignity and respect,"  Connolly added.

The NO on 1 campaign noted that the Bangor Daily News and the Lewiston Sun Journal have each editorialized against the false claims that Maine's marriage equality law would impact anything in the public schools.

The Journal wrote on Sept. 18: "Will same sex marriage be taught in schools, if it becomes legal in Maine? No - nothing in law or curriculum mandates any Maine student be taught about marriage, same-sex or otherwise."

Also on Sept. 18, the Bangor Daily News editorialized that ". . .the claim by repeal proponents is that schools would be forced to teach 'gay sex education.' It is baseless and betrays an ignorance about education."

The NO on 1 campaign also refers the press and public to a memorandum explicitly refuting the claims about education issued Sept. 18th and signed by Maine Senate President Hannah Pingree, former Maine Attorneys General Steve Rowe and James Tierney, House Chair of Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee Rep. Emily Cain, University of Maine School of Law Dean Peter Pitegoff* and University of Maine School of Law Prof. David P. Cluchey*.

"The fact that the Yes campaign would literally repackage the same ad their California consultants used in California is a testament to the national outsiders pushing their agenda on the voters of Maine," added Connolly.  "This is nothing more than a tired national playbook concocted by California political consultants and the national groups that pay their way."

Act on Principles and make equality happen.

And here's the Maine Dept. of Education response...
Via Dirigo Blue:

I cannot comment on Massachusetts education law or decisions made by local school districts in Massachusetts. Here in Maine, our Learning Results standards and education regulations make no reference to the teaching of marriage in any way. So a change in Maine's laws or definition of marriage places no requirements on local districts regarding whether or how they teach about marriage. Such curriculum decisions are strictly local. Before or after passage of the gay marriage law a district could choose to teach about marriage or not, and to teach about it in any way it deemed appropriate. It simply is not governed by state education law.

Btw, I'm awaiting a statement from the Lexington, Massachusetts, School District. So far, it seems the locals there are none too pleased to see NOM telling blatant lies about their community yet AGAIN.

Act on Principles and make equality happen.

good work atdnext
This could be very useful in exposing the Concerned hags of America faking up commercials nationally, to sell in Maine and Washington.

"race, taste. and History finally overcome....and you ain't there"
by Tony Kushner

Oh, it's not just them...
It's the entire radical right! Remember that Schubert Flint was the same far right PR firm that ran Yes on H8 in California, and they're now running Yes on 1 in Maine! That's why many of the same lying California ads are simply being rerun in Maine. And of course, Maggie Gallagher, Brian Brown, and their NOMbie troops of "2M4M" and "gathering gay storm" infamy also are sh*t deep into the Yes on 1 campaign.

We can't let them use the same ugly Yes on H8 California lies to strip Maine families of their fundamental rights. We must end the story differently this time.

Act on Principles and make equality happen.

I feel so sorry for their son...
What other things do they insist that he not be taught?  I realize may xtians believe the Flintstones is actually historically accurate but picking and choosing which actual facts your child learns about strikes me as very sad.

Although, I have made it a point to keep the existance of Lichtenstein, Monaco, Macao and Andorra out of my kids knowledge base.  (Filthy tiny places masquerading as countries)

Question:  What does an atheist do when they fall to the floor and start "speaking in tongues"?

Answer: Get a CAT scan.

Heh
That's pretty much the funniest thing I've read all day Snooky.    Thanks for the little pickmeup.

what's that about the schools?
See today's NYT article, "Coming Out in Middle School." And it's the kids who are speaking up -- even in Oklahoma. Marriage has nothing to do with it, and it would be well to say so.

Damn
Amazing article.

here's a nice article
This is a nice bit of advice from Dan Savage to the father of a gay middle schooler, from last May.

Worth a smile.
