Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Thanks Dale8, I was just about to post it here - this is a response video to the Yes on 1 ad that I worked on last night, hope you all like it:

Thanks!
RL included fetching both kids and all of Mary's camping gear for a week-long class camp out the past 2 hours... most of it was waiting not for the buses, but for the kids' gear to be unpacked from a moving van! What a mess; just like being at a crowded airport carousel except overrun w/LL Bean and garbage bags...

There's a Second No on 1 Video That Just Came Out Also
This one just went live on YouTube a half-hour ago, and it's a great one showing real people and delivering a very hard and strong message:

Oustanding! I thought that they would need a simultaneous two-ad strategy
When I saw the response ad, I thought that it was good, but it was yet another round in the teacher wars.  It did a good job of tying the education rebuttal into our message of respect for all, but it was still a rebuttal ad about schools, not a proactive ad about marriage.  I really thought that if No on 1 was going to do this right, it would need a second ad, run simultaneously, that focused solely on our message.

I cannot tell you how happy I am to see that this is really going to happen.  And not only that, but this latest ad is clearly geared toward the GOP and conservative independents who are ripe for persuasion.  The DailyKos poll showed Republicans supporting Q1 by 77-20.  That is an unnatural imbalance and it shows that a decent slice of these GOP voters can be moved if the message is couched in the right terms.  We won't win GOP voters as a group and we don't have to.  We just need to improve on the 77-20 imbalance.  This ad is an attempt to do that.

Win or lose, No on 1 has shown that it is not a repeat of No on 8.  They deserve our support.

I'm seriously curious...
What is it that is "fantastic" about this ad?

What is it that would change a mature voter to say "oh, I see, it's clear I should vote No"?

I see nothing more than the ol' playbook "hey let's be fair to all families" with a fear-mongering "Outsiders want to harm our kids". One measly supporting statement ... "baseless...not true" ...oooh... powerful (rolling eyes).

Where's the ad with a doctor showing how marriage gives children security, benefits, protection? (I use that b/c the med assoc. came out with a statement supporting marriage). I'd be giving money for that in a sec.

Oh, and you can distract by bashing me all you want... and then when you calm down I'll still have the same question for you.

Preemptive victimization
You are the only one who isn't calm.  I feel really good today and I would bet so do most people here.  No one is "bashing" you.  No one has even had a chance to respond yet.

Anyway, to answer your question:  the vast majority of people who see these ads are not following the specifics of the charges or counter-charges.  They either are going to have a generic feeling that it is the right thing to vote yes or a generic feeling that it is the right thing to vote no.  They are not following this campaign beyond the 30 second spots.  The people who come to PHB are not typical.  We know all the intricate aspects of the arguments and counter-arguments and some of us get disappointed when we don't see a devastating rebuttal to some subpoint or sub-sub-point in these ads.  If you want that, go to the No on 1 press releases and policy statements, which are read by a couple of thousand people at most.

The ads going out to Maine's 1 million voters need to be general in nature, because if you start going down the path of, for example, explaining the legal relationship b/t the marriage law and the public education law, it will only increase the sense that this recently enacted legal change is all messy, complicated and not worth supporting.  I do agree with you that they should have used more than just the one newspaper editorial and should have used the statements by the slew of medical and community groups.  But really that is a judgment call and does not determine the overall effectiveness of the rebuttal ad.  T

At the same time, they are running the latest positive ad which is consistent with the theme of the prior ad and, most critically, focuses on the Maine live-and-let-live philosophy that will appeal to Republicans and independent-minded Maine voters.  There are many of these and if just a small number are shifted to our side, we will win.

Any campaign involves tens of thousands of individual choices about strategy, tactics, and execution.  I don't agree with every specific choice No on 1 has made.  But overall, I think they are doing a very good job and are clearly vastly different from No on 8.  I don't think that in this case, the cynicism and negativity are justified.

Wow!
Love these ads! Especially the first one, which totally throws the "protect the children" meme right back in their faces. Keep it up! No On 1!

I'm really not a fan of the "All Families" ad
I understand that it is not intended at me, it is intended for the people who are opposed to gay marriage or homosexuality but who could be convinced "live and let live" by voting NO on Question 1.

I think the point "Letting people make their own choices whether you disagree" is not strong enough.

It needs to be "Let people make their own choices when their choice has NO IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE"

How about an ad showing Massachusetts BEFORE gay marriage and 5 years later. EVEN lower divorce rates than before. Sky did not fall. Pigs did not fly.

How about an ad showing Iowa a year ago and now. 92% of Iowans say same-sex marriage has NO IMPACT on their lives!

"Live and let live" only works if you alow agree that THEIR choice has no impact on you or your values.

That's why the
If you are against abortions don't have one" doesn't work for a lot of people because they bizarrely believe that a collection of cells is a person equivalent to a full grown woman. However with gay marriage I think we can convince a LOT of people that marriage has no impact on their lives--that is exactly what Flint/Schubert is trying to do by raising the lies of "churches will lose their tax exempt status" and "kids will be taught about gay people in school."

I agree- in THEORY
But the Mainers that these ads are being shown to really do not give a damn about anyone south of Kittery. Hell, move that line up to Augusta!
