What a dumb CNN host

Obama's been president for "a couple of months"?  "There appears to be progress"?  No other bloc has "asked for so much?"  Yikes--I've taught more articulate freshmen.

Thank you Michelangelo and Dan for saying what has to be said bluntly: nothing new here. It was just a cmapaign speech.

And thank you Pam over and over for not hesitating to speak out and proud.

It's time for Obama to stop recycling his campaign rhetoric. How about launching a campaign to educate Americans as to why the GLBT community should not be treated as second class citizens by the law?  That would be a good use of the bully pulpit.

I think the worst part from the CNN host was when he was his used of anecdotal evidence to make some gender generalizations.

Hillary Rosen Just Doesn't Get It

My God, I'm appalled and angry, having watched this and the first part of the President's speech (couldn't stomach the rest of it). What Rosen, especially, does not get is that we shouldn't even be in this position. We are all American citizens, and we are guaranteed rights; it is our government and our society who refuse to recognize this simple fact, who refuse to acknowledge our basic humanity. It is shameful to this country that we must beg and plead for our straight neighbors to allow us to live on an equal basis with them, but Rosen and the HRC seem to like the begging and pleading.

No Obama cannot pass legislation, but he can use that bully pulpit and spend the political capital on us. He has chosen to do neither. Right now, in his own back yard, men who claim to speak for God are disparaging and attacking LGBT people in the most vile ways. Does Obama even realize this? And if he does, how can he remain silent?

Politically we are stuck with the Democrats, as long as the GOP continues to be the party of 18th century morality (for others, of course, they get to do whatever they want). The Democrats know it, and therefore know we are nearly powerless to fight back when the push us further to the back of the bus. The only thing we can do is be vocal and insistent and loud.

Her dishonest, bullying defense [note how it's OK for HER to interrupt everyone else but cries fowl when they do the same thing]  of Obama's inaction and outright betrayals is WORSE THAN the inaction and betrayals themselves!

Because the Big Bad Generals have asked the Commander-in-Chief not to issue a stop loss order is supposed to be JUSTIFICATION for his not doing it??????????????????????

And Signorile was right on about her speaking from the comfortable, protected seat of Privilege. If she were a poor lesbian of color rather than a House Lesbian who's managed to kiss ass her way to a safe little world where Massa calls her by her first name, I guarantee she would be singing a different tune. But she got hers a long time ago, she floats from cushy corporate job to cushy corporate job, periodically stopping to defend the Repug fags who enable their Repug homohating bosses and now viciously defending the indefensible, and how DARE anyone criticize the straight power brokers who put her there.

I'll leave it to others to police you on taste and/or decorum, but I'll critique you on accuracy.

Pit bull? I could buy that, though I might add rabid; pit bulls per se aren't bad. I would suggest wolverine instead, but they got beat last nite (Iowa 6-0!)

Pig?  Nah.  Pigs have a useful function.  In fact, I'm about to have some bacon for breakfast.  I'd have to say that her other genetic pedigree would be something else that was a hybrid: a cross between a vampire and a fungus.

Based on Rosen's history with the RIAA - and, by extension, her coupledom with Queen Elizabeth III during HRC's period of Wal-Mart-ist imperialist expansion throughout the LGB(T) rights world - I don't see how anyone could seriously argue that HRC is not an elite classist cesspool to the same degree that it is a transphobic cesspool.

they got beat by MSU a few weeks back.

Our kids went to Wisconsin, Michigan, and we taught at MSU, so we rooted for all three teams.  And now the youngest works at Penn State, so we've got a lot of the Big Ten+ covered.

I think Michigan will be tough next year.  

But for once in my waaaaaaaaay too many years in college, I'd like to be at a school that runs the table on a national championship.

She recognizes it, in fact, and she wields it as a weapon.

Did you notice her suggestion that the HRC audience was "sophisticated", which is why they (in implied contrast to the folks who, say, can't afford an HRC fundraiser) applauded the president?

Rosen, oh my

Hilary Rosen's comment about the HRC drown as being a 'sophisticated; crowd implies that those of us who agree with Savage, Signoralie and Choi are not.  This is quite insulting and obviously the view of the HRC and the Presiden.

The time for GLBTQ civil rights is now, not tomorrow. Look, the Dems have control of the Senate and the House.  This will most likely NOT be the case after the 2010 election cycle.  

President Obama gave a great speech as always, it is just a dirty shame that he doesn't back up these well refined campgaign speeches with real action.  He promised to be our fierce advocate and to use the Bully Pulpit on our behalf but Obama has been missing in action.  

All we get are great speeches and "deskplatesfullofbs" over and over again.  

Maybe he needs an office cleaner who can assist him with cleaning his desk plates on a daily basis.  I volunteer for this job.  I will even bring my own cleaning supplies free of charge.

What was Dan Savage mouthing at 3:03 on the second clip?

Looked like "ass hole" to me, as he flicked his eyes to someone behind camera on set.  And then Savage left the interview 3 minutes early because of "other commitments."  There was something else going down on the Seattle set, or in relation to the what the other guests were saying.

Dan Choi summed up this piece very well:

We have to keep our president's feet to the fire.  That is the responsible thing that citizen's do.

Hilarious...

Hillary thinks the HRC dinners are full of politically savvy people? I've been to many of those dinners and let me tell you, there could not be a room full of people who are LESS hooked in to the issues. It is a nice night out. Great networking. Good place to run into old friends. Maybe see a star. A nice side effect is that it makes you feel like you are doing something when you are not. I know, that's why I used to go before I got my political shit together.

How on earth do we get people like Rosen and HRC to stop speaking for us?!

Wanda Sykes HBO one woman show is HILLARIOUS

I must had my eyes watering laughing so hard for 45 minutes.
She talked about her white kids with her wife, and that she thought about using a Black donor but since she's older than her wife she didn't want to leave a bi-racial daughter's hair in the care of a white woman. Then did about ten minutes about what she's seen white women do to Black girl's hair. She also does a great part on her stomach roll she's named Esther....Esther Roll and loving bread and alcohol and now Esther's gotten a sweet tooth for cheese cake. Then strapping Esther into a spanks to appear on TV.
