Actually, only one person clapped!

For about 3 or 4 claps, during Pete's lil talk- then that person stopped, as no one else was clapping as well!

After that, it was dead silence from the "crowd" and they just took turns droning on and on until it was time (FINALLY!) for questions.

The ever-changing SFMM strategy

I think this is another example of SFMM casting about for something that will click.  First, after 4 doom-and-gloom ads focused on schools, they suddenly shift ad strategies in the final week so as to appeal to the middle, i.e., people who want gays to have some rights but think marriage goes too far.  That strategy risks turning off their hardcore base.  Now one day after rolling out the new kinder and gentler ad, they bring in people who appeal to the base, but would turn off the moderates.  All of this comes off as confused floundering.  

Hopefully, No on 1's media outreach people will be providing background info on LaBarbera and Camenker to the Maine press.

Unfortunately, no matter how badly they do, they can still turn out enough people to win, so this pathetic press conference shouldn't lull us into a false sense of security.

I cannot fathom that the statehouse would allow a similar group of Satanists to come up there and spout a bunch of hate the same way these people do.  This whole circus is ridiculous.

What they are doing is making the connection between folks like Fred Phelps and SFMM. If Mutty was involved in this, it was an enormous mistake. The rhetoric was not only hateful but it really makes no sense and has little to do with marriage equality.

I suggest that Mainers contact Collins and Snowe. Tell them to be like Reagan who spiked the Briggs Initiative.

Lying Liars and the Lies They Tell

Once again we get the lies about the Parker family and their campaign of anti-gay hate. Mr. Parker did not simply demand to be notified of lesson plans that discuss the existence of LGBT people (and remember, the book he was complaining about has ONE picture of a lesbian-headed family), Mr. Parker demanded to be notified in advance of any conversation, including with other children, that might mention the existence of LGBT people. The only way the school could comply was to end the free speech rights of any child in the school with gay or lesbian parents, not to mention aunts and uncles.

Then they took their case to federal court, and argued that parents have the right to veto any and all lesson plans in the schools. They totally over-reached and the feds told them to stuff it. Public schools cannot operate if they give absolute veto power to all the parents - what would be left to teach?

But leave it to the "Christians," or should I say the pseudo-Christian cultists, to lie their way to political victory.

Just sad.

The *real* agenda!

Ever since the Reagan Regency, the goal of the religious reicht has been to take over all of the school districts in the country, while at the same time, their minions in the state and federal legislatures cut funding of "progressive" agencies to the point they're defunded (remember Newtie's failed attempt to eliminate PBS?).

Once the public schools go bankrupt, the fascist churches then bid to take over operation of the "public" schools like they had during from the colonial period to the 1800s or so. Thus insuring they can spread their hate-filled theocracy into all segments of society.

They've gotten their start through Falwell's indoctrination camp Liberty University, and Marion "call me Pat!" Robertson's diploma mill, Regent University, as well as Tom Monaghan's Ave Maria School of Law. All three "school's" goal is to train "Christian" lawyers, who then clerk for conservative judges, and after gaining enough experience, run for judgeships of their own, and thus able to justify an American Taliban takeover of the United States.

What's The Difference?

They're both comedians.  Those 2, along with several others, always try to "out-ridiculous" themselves with their just-made-up shit about gay people, trying to pass it off as scientific fact.

But I have to say Phelps is the funniest of the bunch - that video he made upon Falwell's death is comedy gold and still gets me rolling on the floor.

So typical of a MassResistance meeting. All of the "mainstream" anti gay marriage groups in Massachusetts don't even post a link for either their blog or web site. Everyone wants to distance themselves from these idiots.  Maine has their own Camenker in Heath and they shuffled him off to pasture so he wouldn't drop a bomb during the campaign. Having these idiots on stage will serve the same purpose.

the important question here:

why were there 10 members of the press at this event?

i've hosted failed parties with 10X more people than this event. even more relevant: "fringe" leftist groups have too, with the same  amount of publicity and contacts to the press. DFH vegan-lesbian-solar power advocates have had bigger rallies, on state capitols even. i've been to a few. but did 10+ members of the press show up? no. of course not. nobody cares about leftist "publicity stunts." but 2.5 teabaggers and a microphone? Stop the Presses, people.

what frightens me is that the right wingers who get facetime are so frakking ugly. i thought conforming to body standards matters on teevee? not if you're a winger, apparently. they keep trotting out the ugliest of trolls, and somehow that's ok, but a tattooed lefty in tie die is freakishly strange.
