The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

It's time for people in Maine to see 86-year-old Philip Spooner again

by: Pam Spaulding

Mon Nov 02, 2009 at 11:45:00 AM EST

The polls are way too close in Maine, with the latest PPP poll putting at Yes 51, No 47. If there was ever a time to think about what equality really means, it's now -- with the moving words of WWII veteran Philip Spooner in this video we posted last month.

"The woman at my polling place asked me do I believe in equality for gay and lesbian people. I was pretty surprised to be asked a question like that. It made no sense to me. Finally I asked her: what do you think I fought for in Omaha Beach?"
Why is this even a close, you ask? From PPP:
The measure's fate could be determined by the age composition of the electorate on Tuesday. Senior citizens support it by a 59-40 margin while voters under 30 oppose it 51-48. Last year exit polls showed more voters under 30 turning out for the Presidential election than ones over 65 but we expect seniors to turn out at a much higher rate than younger voters this year, as is often the case in off year elections. If the electorate ends up being younger than we anticipate the fight could be even closer.

Independents support the measure 52-46. There are slightly more Democrats (27%) in favor of it than there are Republicans (22%) opposed to it. Men support it by a 56-42 margin, women are opposed 52-46. It's just going to come down to which side does the better job of getting its people out.

It's down to GOTV. The fundies have an infinite source of cash to toss onto the airwaves spewing lies and scare tactics. Fair Mainers like Phillip Spooner won't be swayed by it, but those on the fence and low information voters need to hear the truth to counter what's blasting out of their TVs.

Act Now on Act Blue to help with one last ad buy.

I'm on the phone now...
Even though I'm sick as hell, I'm making myself call right now to help with GOTV. We need to do whatever we can to help No on 1 succeed tomorrow!

Want to save marriage equality in Maine? Ask me how! ;-)

You know what's being missed on this too:
No one's talking about the GENDER gap.

From Daily Kos/Research 200 poll:

YES NO NOT SURE
MEN 52 43 5
WOMEN 44 49 7

Why do we hear so much about gaps in religious persausion, ethnicity, race, age... But no one seems to notice that support/opposition rates are almost reciprocal for men and women? That it's not being  talked about seems to me people have given up trying to change that reality.

Yes we know men are more homophobic than women in general. But to win these fights, we need to find a strategy and message that resonants with straight men.

We need to mobilize single young women to go vote
Let the uninterested straight young guys STAY HOME.

What have you done today, to make ya feel PROUD?

I just gave another $50
to their emergency fund page:

https://secure.actblue.com/con...

Which I'm glad to see hit their $25K target and is now closing in  on their revised $50K target.

No on 1, is Number 2 on ActBlue's front page hot list (YAY!!)
http://www.actblue.com/

and Louise & Blenders have kicked in over $5K.

will the gays blame HOMOPHOBIC MEN for passing Question 1??
A lot of us Black LGBT people still remember the madness that happened immediately post-Prop 8 last year...

Yeah...
There sure aren't enough black people (or any other POC's) in Maine to make a significant difference...

Speaking of which...

That's an interesting backstory (several backstories, actually) that I will report on after Tuesday...many volunteers that I have worked with have been gay POC's. And they are still angry about Prop 8 itself and the backlash. And many of them told me personally that that's the reason they decided to volunteer here...in spite of the racial demographics...

[ Parent ]
Well, for what it's worth:
1. I told anyone who tried to lay the Prop 8 defeat on the people of color to STFU. Nate Silver nicely debunked that BS.

http://www.fivethirtyeight.com...

It's such a pity the myth lives on.

2. My point wasn't BLAMING homophobic men, but maybe finding our why we're polling badly with them and finding a way to combat that.

Just look at the numbers. Clearly that is our biggest hurdle, and hence, our biggest opportunity, aka, inroad. If we can bring men to the same polling place as women, we will easily win the fight.

[ Parent ]
I think that's a tough slog with straight young guys
They are the group who BASH us. I'd rather work on getting more women to the polls. Maybe straight women could use a reward system with gay friendly straight guys...LOL

and you gat a tea bag, and you get a tea bag, and you get a tea bag....in my Oprah voice.

Clearly this is too late for Maine
but I think strategically, a commercial with a person who's macho credentials are not in question, like an NFL or NBA star, cutting a spot saying "Hey, vote No on 1, what's it matter to you? It's none of our damn business. Let folks be, be cool with equality. I am." could shave a few points off in our favor.

[ Parent ]
I think a happy hetero like Brad Pitt might be able to make being gay friendly COOL
Most younger voters don't even understand why someone would ask if their gay friends should be treated equal.
It's getting them to the polls that is like pulling teeth.
If youth vote turns out, Maine won't even be close.
something like this of Pitt

I was thinking NFL, as opposed to
someone who could be seen as a Hollywood poofter! :)

Not a sea change, just persaude a percentage point or two. Just to reach the six-pack crowd and get them past instinctualy just voting against "fags." Get them just to think, "oh, whatever, I don't have to like them, but maybe I just don't have to deny them stuff. Maybe my girlfriend is right."

[ Parent ]
I believe more single men would like to imagine themselves Brad Pitt than a quarterback

I'd be more worried about backlash against older Catholics
There also wouldn't be a misreported exit poll concerning White Men like that 70% BULLSH*T figure they said Blacks voted.

Please, please, please...
anyone who can do anything to help, please! Every little bit counts, we are down to the wire.

I am off to run a phonebank from 3 pm to 8 pm today. Tomorrow morning, I drive my daughter to the polls at 7 am (her first time voting, ever, she just turned 18 in July) and then I will be phonebanking from 10 am til the polls close at 8 pm.

If you can get here to Maine to help us (see Louise's other message), please do. If you can make calls from away, please do. If you can give money, please do. We are this close to making history and I cannot bear the thought of it slipping away in the final hours of the campaign. Please, everyone, do whatever is possible! Thanks for your support.

I am, I am, I am on the phone NOW!
We're here, we're queer, and we're doing everything we can to make sure No on 1 wins tomorrow! The medicine has helped some with my coughing and sneezing, so I don't sound so bad on the phone.

Want to save marriage equality in Maine? Ask me how! ;-)

[ Parent ]
Amen, amen!
I'll be on the phones as soon as I get out of work both today and tomorrow, and I'm dragging as many friends along with me as I can. Basically all I can think at this point is 'please oh please oh please.'

It's a beautiful state...
and anyone can fall in love with us. I promise a fabulous lobster dinner to any volunteer "from away" who decides to visit the great state of Maine and celebrate the victory we will have on Wednesday...we are just hours away!

WHERE is the list of NOM donors?
The court ordered them to release, I wonder if there is a PENALTY for not disclosing donor's names.

I'd tell NOM it's 25,000 bucks a day every day you don't disclose, or double that fine each sucessive day.
Does Maine judge use some CLOUT?

What have you done today, to make ya feel PROUD?

~Heather Small

Unfortunately, the court didn't order them to release anything.
The decision that came down was only a denial of the restraining order that NOM tried to bring in order to halt the state investigation. In order to see the list of NOM donors before election day, NOM would have to release them on its own recognizance, which is so not going to happen. The investigation that would potentially bring these names to light wouldn't start til mid-November at the earliest, I think I remember reading.

[ Parent ]
Nate Silver has a post up
He earlier predicted an 11-33 percent of a "yes" win (the higher number being an adjustment for usual off-year election turnout, the earlier assuming a more activated electorate.

He didn't re-crunch the numbers with this poll, but he says he's sticking by his earlier prediction and still betting Marriage Equality prevails in Maine.

Nate's opinion means a great deal to me, he was by far, the most accurate pundit on the 2008 election.

http://www.fivethirtyeight.com...

scared me with your prediction it's a NO win, not YES.
That's also a problem with these referendums we have to educate folks to vote No in Maine, and affirm in WA.
It's all how our opposition phrases their referndum/question.

What have you done today, to make ya feel PROUD?

~Heather Small

[ Parent ]
Not in Maine, necessarily
My hosts told me that folks in Maine are used to voting No on referendum items. This may work in our favor.

[ Parent ]
Arrrgh! It's I did mess that up sorry
It's so hard to keep these straight, especially as it's no on 1, yes on ref 71.

How about we make it easy and stop putting people's civil rights on ballots?

[ Parent ]
keeping things straight isn't my strong suit either....LOL

What have you done today, to make ya feel PROUD?

[ Parent ]
I like his analysis
He is careful and thoughtful and does more than crunch the numbers. He adds some analysis. I have confidence in his predictions.
