The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Breaking News: Horrific Shooting At Ft Hood, TX- 13 dead, 30 wounded...

by: Louise

Thu Nov 05, 2009 at 18:17:59 PM EST

and the gunman, an O-4 major, was a mental health professional.

A U.S. soldier opened fire Thursday at Fort Hood, Texas, killing at least 11 people and wounding 31 others, military officials said. The gunman was shot to death, and two other soldiers were in custody.

Lt. Gen. Robert W. Cone, commanding general of the Army's III Corps, who briefed President Barack Obama on the shootings, said the gunman used two handguns.

NBC News' Pete Williams reported that a U.S. official identified the gunman as Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan, who was 39 or 40. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, R-Texas, said military officials told her that the gunman was about to be deployed to Iraq and was "upset about it." The Associated Press reported that Hasan was a mental health professional.

From ABC:

The shooter was killed and two other suspects, who are also soldiers, have been apprehended, Lt. Gen. Robert W. Cone said.

Hasan allegedly opened fire and killed 11 people on the base before he was shot, bringing the total number of fatalities to 12.

The general said there were "eyewitness accounts of more than one shooter," and the others were tracked to an adjacent facility.

Cone called the attack "a terrible tragedy, stunning." He said the community was "absolutely devastated."

President Obama called the Fort Hood shootings a "horrific outburst of violence."

"It is difficult enough to lose" soldiers overseas, but it is "horrifying that they should lose their lives at an Army base in the U.S.," he said.

CBS is reporting Hasan was an Army psychiatrist from Silver Springs, MD.

The Army post was still on lockdown as of 5 p.m. but Cone said that all of the deaths and injuries had taken place during the initial 1:30 p.m. incident and that authorities were determining whether to lift the lockdown.

FBI agents have responded to the base and the military is asking the FBI's help in investigating the backgrounds of the two soldiers held as suspects in the shooting, Cone said.

There has been some confusion about the exact location of the shooting. Cone said that the shooting took place in the Readiness Center but that the two surviving suspects were taken into custody in an "adjacent facility."

At the Soldier Readiness Center, soldiers who are about to be deployed or who are returning undergo medical screening - on average about 300-400 screened a day, said Sgt. Rebekah Lampam, a spokeswoman at Fort Hood.

A graduation ceremony for soldiers who finished college courses while deployed was going on in an auditorium at the Readiness Center at the time of the shooting, said Lampam said.

Violence
The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are "horrific outburst[s] of violence." It is time it stops.

A great many people think they are thinking when they are really rearranging their prejudices.
- William James(1842 - 1910)

I agree
Just get the Taliban to lay down their arms, and stop shooting women who have the temerity to learn how to read.

Any ideas on how?

There is no situation so complex it can't get even worse

violence
killing those same women because they happen to be in a place the us wants to bomb is much better?   the violence being employed by u.s. forces is much more deadly and effective than anything any of the warlord forces (including our current favorites as well as those we used to support and have now fallen out of favor) can dream of.
shades of 'we had to destroy the village to save it'.

a culture that celebrates violence and war and devalues life as the u.s. does will unfortunately breed violence within it's borders as well as in the target countries.   I am saddened by the useless killing in texas just as i am by the useless killing in iraq, pakistan, afghanistan, and various central american "drug war" conflicts.

While I agree with you on some points...
I think it's very ridiculous, from what we know at this point, to jump to the conclusions that claim this guy as part of any broader political message.

Obviously, we had a seriously unbalanced man playing a part in the psychological screening process for other soldiers.  That was a problem.  The effects of long or repeated tours might have played a role in this.  Or they might not have.  Either way, they are a problem.  And any one of a number of institutional or policy problems might have played a part in this.  Or, they might not have.  But just blaming it on war in general isn't really helpful.

We have an all-volunteer military.  This man wasn't taken off the street and told, "You are going to be sent to a foreign country right now, where you will kill people or be killed."  He signed up for a job, as a psychiatric professional, should have known very well what he was getting into on the "violence" front.  When told to do that job (likely under extraordinary stress, I'll admit,) he took a gun and started killing his co-workers.  That is a tragedy, a terrible mistake.  It is not justification for a major change in US foreign policy.

[ Parent ]
u.s. foreign policy
wasn't suggesting that this one incident was a reason to change u.s. foreign policy, or that the individual meant to convey a political message.  i have friends and relatives who have been and are currently deployed in various battlefields.
the fact that people are not drafted to implement the illegal wars of aggression this country is engaged in does not make it any less degrading and damaging to their psyche, or any less degrading to the entire society.   this is by no means the only incident related to those used then ignored  by this government either killing themselves, those around them or both.  http://militarytimes.com/benef...
when a culture celebrates killing and violence, it will have consequences at home as well as abroad.   one of my friends told me she was glad her son (normally stationed at ft hood) was in iraq where she felt he was safer at this point.

a u.s. foreign policy based on extreme violence and the notion of american exceptionalism is a justification for a much needed change in u.s. foreign policy.

"All-volunteer force"
Has been the name used for the US military policy of no conscription (draft) since 1973.  It's commonly used, accurate and serves my point.

I'll direct you the dictionary:

3. Military. a person who enters the service voluntarily rather than through conscription or draft, esp. for special or temporary service rather than as a member of the regular or permanent army.

http://dictionary.reference.co...

Mr Hasan joined the United States military voluntarily. (See the connection there?  "Voluntarily"?)  You can try to limit the definitions you choose to accept, but that won't change the reality of my point any more than it will the dictionary.

[ Parent ]
I've long been an advocate...
Of installing benevolent (as they come) dictators in Afghanistan.

A democracy in Afghanistan that actually protects human rights is still a long, long way away.  Dictators that rely on Western support to keep power, however, can be policed.  The problem, of course, is that they continue to see us as meddling in their business and continue to hate us for doing so.

And the situation is even worse than that, to be honest: More and more of the terrorist activity we're there to stop has moved into Pakistan, a nuclear ally that seems constantly in danger of falling apart.  The troops in Afghanistan also look pretty "just in case" to Pakistan.

Nice unit cohesion!
Maybe the shooter found a queer on the base and killed a dozen people out of gay panic.

(Too snarky?)

plenty snarky
he may have killed an LGBT service person for all we know.

He may also have BEEN one for all we know.
Though it's unlikely, as he could still have gotten out under DADT.

More than likely he was on stop loss because of being a psychiartrist/doctor

This Is Why Violence Is Not The Answer
In the wake of our loss in Maine this week, I have read and heard many comments advocating violence as a means to achieve progress in the LGBT civil rights struggle.

Please let today's example of violence in Fort Hood serve to remind us all that the only thing that is accomplished by terrorism and violence is more terrorism and violence.

The freepers, wing-nuts and "christian" purists are already in mega-high shriek mode about conspiracy theories, sleeper cells, and terrorist plots and the only detail they have so far is a soldier's last name. They are also predicting that Obama will apologize for him because he is Muslim.

We must never, ever, give them the proof they are searching for to backup the "gays are the largest terrorist threat our nation faces" meme.

We must and will achieve our goals through non-violent means.

Just a thought
These men and or women lost their lives in a horrific way, being killed by one of their peers. You may disagree with their service, you may disagree with the orders they have been given, but each of them today has a family that will never see them again. Some surely have sons or daughters. It would be nice if we as a community came together and for just a few moments put politics aside and just thought of the loss tonight. The wives, husbands, sons and daughters also serve. Let the politics start again tomorrow.

Guns don't kill people. People kill people.
Isn't that the standard Republican/NRA/Christianist/Ted Nugent/Chuck Heston party line?

To think that our government up here just finished voting to start dismantling elements of our gun registry, something that was put into place after a nasty, Columbine type shooting in Montreal 20 years ago.

No More Muslims in the U.S. Military

  http://action.afa.net/Blogs/Bl...

"It it is time, I suggest, to stop the practice of allowing Muslims to serve in the U.S. military. The reason is simple: the more devout a Muslim is, the more of a threat he is to national security. Devout Muslims, who accept the teachings of the Prophet as divinely inspired, believe it is their duty to kill infidels. Yesterday's massacre is living proof.  And yesterday's incident is not the first fragging incident involving a Muslim taking out his fellow U.S. soldiers.

Of course, most U.S. Muslims don't shoot up their fellow soldiers. Fine. As soon as Muslims give us a foolproof way to identify their jihadis from their moderates, we'll go back to allowing them to serve. You tell us who the ones are that we have to worry about, prove you're right, and Muslims can once again serve. Until that day comes, we simply cannot afford the risk. You invent a jihadi-detector that works every time it's used, and we'll welcome you back with open arms.

This is not Islamophobia, it is Islamo-realism"
