Those drag queens weren't pacifists and they weren't the equivalent of the police that beat them. Lesbians and trans people aside, a crash course in general masculinity: men don't respect men that don't fight and they never will. At all. That's why 'gay' has come to mean everything passive, empty, vapid and silly to schoolkids. We can get to political equality through the courts and polite discourse but there is, sadly, only one way for men to wrest respect from other men. Maybe it's why gay men seem to be rubbish at sports; that loses us more respect than anything else. When we have gay soldiers, gay sportsmen and gay men who can throw a punch: that's why we become respected: properly respected, not just tolerated. if you have a problem with that; you have a problem with men. that's fine but they're not going anywhere and they're not going to change just because you want them to.

I wonder if he knows how to be a real Christian.
Obviously not because if he was, he'll know that in the bible it read "Love thy neighbor".
It also said that the God that he worships loves all of his children.
If I could meet this man face to face, my question to him would be.. "WWJD? Really? That's all you could come up with?"
Then I'd most likely tell him that he's a really sick man wanting to be up HIS brothers and sisters if he is truly a Christian.

What this man advocates is precisely in accord with the way the Christian church has treated LGBT people for twenty centuries.  All of the touchy-feely Christian crowd need to own up to that honestly instead of trying to bluff it out of existence.  Listening to these people bicker about who is a "real" Christian is like listening to high school debaters argue about whether the holes in Swiss cheese are more n nutritious than the holes in donuts (an exercise my own h.s. debate coach made us repeat endlessly).  

You're a Christian if you say you're a Christian, period.  No other standard makes sense.  And this creep's views are perfectly in agreement with the overwhelming preponderance of other people who've called themselves Christians, dating all the way back to Paul of Tarsus.

Christian is what Christian does

If a sizable or vocal contingent of Xians promotes hatred for self serving gain and the other contingents do not immediately condemn the behavior then that is what defines the group.  It is trivial to behave in a hateful manner while claiming the high road based on the ethereal concepts of the Ten Commandments.  Witness all the high profile sinners that apologize with much contrition and are summarily forgiven for their transgressions of the basics of Xian beliefs.

And we don't publicly call them on it outside of our safe forums.  Nor do we publicly and explicitly call them on the hypocrisy of their legislative H8 campaigns.

We must vocally and publicly call the Xian leaders on their campaigns of hatred.  We need to do two things simultaneously:

ONE: Promote the values that hypothetical Christians hold dear and embrace the Believers' practice of the same.  In other words, promote the following of Jesus Christ's teachings of Love and acceptance and reaching out to those who hate and sin.  We don't have to be believers in their particular brand, but most of the religions that Christianty assimilated in order to build empires believed in the same basic social tenets of respect and cooperation in order to form stable societies.  In other words, show love to the Flock as individuals.

TWO: Loudly and publicly expose the religious leaders as The Devil that is leading the Flock astray in order to increase their personal power and wealth.  Shouldn't be hard to do, but somehow in our social structure, any criticizing of religion has become a huge taboo.  That needs to end, today.  

Fair is fair and we need to stick up for ourselves against attacks which are internally inconsistent.  People are entitled to their cosmological beliefs but as fellow humans we have a responsibility to let them know when they are being used.  Expose the frauds, and expose them as leading the believers into evil and away from God and Jesus and Grace.  

Do these two things loudly and often and always together, every chance you can.  Seek out the conversations and public forums.  Protest outside churches with signs that say things like "Jesus wanted you to love, not hate".  Make it personal and we can stop this campaign.

A legal question

I’ve got a legal question for someone who knows the District code. Isn’t illegal to make a death threat, regardless of the motivation?

I assume that this oxygen thief plans on including “they shall be put to death, their blood is upon them.” Does he have to name a specific target for it to be a death threat? Does he have to name a specific killer?

What would happen if a volunteer showed up to his press conference, announced that ze is non-het, and then asked Mr. Thief specifically whether his statement was a death threat against hirself?

Yes

Any threats designed to upset your well-being can be construed as assault. (Battery is the actual act of being beaten up, according to common criminal tort definition, but assault is almost used interchangably for the two these days.)

However, you generally have to prove a disruption in your well-being somehow, by either curtailing your usual behavior, seeing a shrink for the problem, buying a security system, etc.; basically, something that proves you thought they'd make good on their threat.

DC's laws are much more restrictive as concerns

threats than in other jurisdictions.  One cannot even post the word faggot on the Washington Blade website in their comments (it's scrambled).  I have even been contacted by the FBI for comments I have made on that website, which were benign.  They closely monitor this stuff here in DC.

Here is information from DCs Metropolitan Police Department on HATE CRIMES (law in effect since 1989):

What Is a Hate Crime?

A hate crime is a crime that is committed against a person because of prejudice or bias. Victims of hate crimes are singled out simply because of their perceived race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, personal appearance, sexual orientation, family responsibility, physical handicap, matriculation, or political affiliation.

Examples of hate crimes include:

Physical attack
Destruction of property
Cross burnings
Arson
Vandalism
Telephone harassment
Painting swastikas and other hate symbols
Use of racial slurs
Cemetery desecration
Verbal abuse

Hate Crimes Are Against the Law

Prosecution for a "hate crime" still requires a CRIME.  It's even spelled out, word-for-word, in the very name of the concept.

In my book, even a fundie couldn't be dumb enough to miss that - which just goes to show how far they're willing to knowingly stretch the truth, as a cynical political calculation to galvanize their hateful base.

if the above D.C. laws are that strict then it may now be a crime to use anti-gay slurs. If this is the case, the religious people will have made their case - you know, the whole "told you so" thing. If the D.C. laws follow the British example...

(and in many cases, US laws do mirror British hate speech laws) only incitement to violence &/or hatred will be covered. There's a damned fine hair split by the use of the term "incitement to hatred": it allows religious people to say that "gay sex is evil", but not that "homosexuals are evil". The former is a theological statement (even if it's massively erroneous IMO) while the latter is incitement to hatred. This is why there have been few (if any) anti-gay hate-speech convictions in the UK: any Christian who follows the "love the sinner, hate the sin" meme cannot break hate-speech laws like the one I described above.

Incitement to violence is a different matter - secular law overrides religious dogma in this case because any jurisdiction with separation of church and state cannot excuse violence for religious reasons - freedom of belief, the right to hold repulsive views, is protected; freedom of action, of physically harming another because they offend your religious sensibilities, must never be. This is a lesson that should have been learned courtesy of the KKK, but seemingly has not been. Therefore the law would make no distinction between those that state that "the Bible tells us to kill homosexuals" (it doesn't) and "the Bible tells us to kill those who have gay sex" (only true if you're a brain-dead Biblical literalist).

If you look at this bigot's King James Bible, you'll see that the Pharisees made the same sort of death threats against Jesus BECAUSE Jesus was inclusive of those they hated.  I don't want to join the "real Christian" debate, because "real Christians" have been both a positive and decidedly negative influence on society and culture.

These mfer's have very little to associate them with Jesus.  They are the same as the others who have killed prophets (including Jesus and MLK Jr.) since the beginning of time.  We need to expose them for who they are.

Completely debunked

Matthew 10:34 was completely debunked as a later addition by the "Christian" community by the Jesus Seminar scholars.  This saying is based on something first proclaimed by Micah. (Micah 7:5-6) I strongly encourage you to read the publications of the Jesus Seminar and Marcus J. Borg.  (my info taken from pages 173-174 of "The Five Gospels" ed. Robert Funk and Roy Hoover.)

Modern "christianity" (and the modern New Testament) bears very little relation to what Jesus actually said and did.

That doesn't stop pig-ignorant yobbos from claiming it is "inerrant" and trying to enact public policy based on it.  Since there is absolutely no way of knowing one way or the other what Jesus "really" said, or what the facts of his life were or were not, it's a pointless discussion.  And since at least half of "what Jesus really said" is based on the Old Testament prophets, pointing out that this particular passage originates in Micah proves nothing about its "authenticity" one way or the other.  

This passage is in the Bible, the actual, authentic Word of God(TM), and we're stuck with it--along with the whole damned silly book, talking asses, four-legged insects, man-eating whales that don't digest what they eat, virgin births and all.  I repeat: you can justify anything you want by finding a relevant verse in the Bible.  It's a game anyone can play, but with no conceivable point.

Where do they talk of inciting violence?

If you read the article, there is no mention of wanting to incite violence.  

They feel that the Hate Crimes legislation covers their speech from the religious point of view, and that it would make it criminal to speak out against homosexual behavior from a religious standpoint.  Which it does NOT.  They are still legally allowed to spew their hate, as well they should be. Just as we are able to write articles like this that express our disdain and disgust with them.

Really, I am glad we have these new inclusions, and we now have the same rights in Hate Crimes Legislation as Religion does.  But these people are free to express whatever hateful position they desire, and that does not mean they are inciting violence, I do not understand why our side conflates their statements they way their side does ours.

If we continue to fight against their right to free speech, then all those videos they post of Christians being persecuted for holding to their interpretation of the bible will become the truth.  

This article seems to be calling for Speech and Thought, however repulsive we may find it, to be declared illegal.  If we go that route, then I'd have to side with the Christians on this one.  You can't push to silence people's speech, because if YOU succeed, then someone will come along and do it to YOU.

The part of concern is:

"We're basically going to defy the law, and challenge it," Cass told WND. "We're going to declare the whole counsel of God, including those parts that some may consider 'inciting a hate crime' to see if the attorney general is going to come down and arrest a group of peaceful clergy exercising their First Amendment rights.

Now, if they are talking about free speech, that's fine. They can protest their belief that the First Amendment rights they're guaranteed are being trampled, as the First Amendment guarantees their rights to do that.

However, how effective is their speech at curtailing the "radical homosexual agenda," as placed in the article? Not very, based on my experiences. I've never known anyone who's just been told that homosexuality is a sin to say, "Oh, okay. Take me to the conversion facility, stat!"

What makes me, and I'm sure other GLBT people, afraid of being out and visible is the thought of the other, typically-fueled-by-beer-and-religious-nonsense activism by the far right: threats of physical violence, and making good on those threats. And, while he doesn't say that is the activism they're talking about, it's fair to assume it. The Bible isn't exactly known for being "wholesome and rated G for all ages." Case in point:

Leviticus 20:13 - "If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them."

Now, from the legal standpoint instead of the "lol, christians are non-violent?" one, all the videos posted on their website are from people who were in the UK. The Queen tends to run different laws involving her queens; I assume this is what we were aiming for when we split with them a few centuries ago. As for the cases they reference in their article that did take place in the United States, I'd have to see a court record; fines alone do not necessitate the facts, and they could have done more to earn said fines than what the article implies (face it, they aren't exactly an unbiased media outlet).

In addition to free speech, it is a right, but rights come with responsibilities. If you're using your right of Free Speech to incite negative happenings, you can and will be arrested/fined for it. Don't believe me? Stand up in a theater (preferably one that's showing a Ben Stiller movie), and shout "Fire!" Having your free speech impuned upon when being arrested and fined will be the least of your worries; if anyone is injured or dies from the ensuing panic, you're civilly liable for all damages.

I believe I've said all I want to say. Now, if you'll excuse me, I believe there's barbeque ribs to be had.

LOL.  I guess you haven't visited San Francisco lately.  There is a guy at Powell Street Station, and he's been there for years, that quotes those scriptures at people every single day.  There are some Churches who currently do this, and by pointing it out we shame them into irrelevancy (Westboro Baptist Church Fred Phelps Klan comes to mind).

Let them spout, with the full light of day on them, and it turns people against them.  Like Orion45 says below, embarrass them to the point that they either shut their pie holes or they have to wear the sheets again.

I think it's a pretty safe bet

that Holder, who as AG has ultimate responsibility in the DOJ for the "hate brief" defending DOMA, and who just recently claimed not to know that gay marriage was up for a vote in Maine, will give these creeps a pass, no matter what they say or do.  After all, his boss has assured him that God's in the mix.

Make it embarrassing

Embarrass them by quoting back at them and proving them wrong.  They throw the bible around (the Old Testament, which Jesus worked to eliminate) so throw the New Testament back at them.  

Read "The Five Gospels" edited by Robert Funk and Roy Hoover. Read "Meeting Jesus again for the first time" and "Reading the bible again for the first time" by Marcus Borg.  Be prepared.

Look. Our current strategy for gay rights campaign ads just isn't working. Witness Maine and California. We produce warm 'n fuzzy ads showing gay couples expecting the reaction will be, "See? They're not so bad!" It does not work. They produce ads full of lies that claim kindergarteners will be taught about gay sex; they use the "But what about the CHILDREN?!" card, even if they have to lie to do it.

So we need to go on the attack and tell voters who these people REALLY are! Show voters their true faces by using footage from rallies like these. Show their connections to other groups that are racist or want Creationism taught in schools or other out-of-the-mainstream beliefs. Show them the true face of hate on these issues and then associate voting for whatever the anti-gay ballot initiative as agreement with the "Reverend" Casses of the world. Make them feel revulsion toward the people associated with the anti-gay initiatives and their disgusting words and actions.

Do not physically attack them, use their own words to show their true face to the world. Use Cass' words even if he isn't directly involved in the local campaign, the same way they use footage from a Castro district parade in an ad talking about gays everywhere. Use attack ads against them the way they have used them against us. It's time to take off the gloves.

I'm trying to imagine a bunch of pastors proselytizing against gays....why, they do it all of the time! They hate us. No new news there. So what happens if they don't get arrested? I guess it would mean they were wrong (gasp!)

And another thing...how can they begin to call what they're doing "peaceful"? I'm reaaaal sick of them playing the victims.

What I'd "like" to see is them taking down a homosexual. Do they have one lined up already or are they going to pick one off the street?

Let's remember

Some years back, there was a white supremacist by the name of Tom Metzger who had a group called White Aryan Resistance.

He "trained" a bunch of racist skinhead thugs, who subsequently murdered an Ethiopian man.

Morris Dees of the SPLC sued Metzger and his group and forced him into bankruptcy, and forced Metzger to sell his house and everything he owned in order to start paying off the judgement against him.

If anyone from this fascist group incites a member to assault or kill a TLBG person, or one even suspected of being family, they should be taken not only to criminal court, but civil court as well, so bigots like these find out the hard way that free speech has consequences and responsibilities.

This mob is no better than WAR, the Klan, the American Nazi Party, or any other hate group.

To test the Hate Crimes Bill doesn't entail ONLY Hate Speech, there has to be violence agaist a LGBT person following that speech.

but these idiots seem to believe their own bullshit propaganda and seem to be talking about advocating violence, which generally doesn't actually violate this law, and if they go further their actions will be illegal,with or without the bill.  
 You are clearly suggesting threatening his family/friends in return implicitly.  If you intend to see him personally pay for whatever he triggers, I would suggest posting that on a blog is not the best idea and seems like "butch" posturing to me.

I worried that I was seeing sinister motives where there were none

when I posted after his first post Shepard Act press release. His language seemed to indicate the unthinkable, inciting violence against us to be able to challenge the act in Court.

I not only did not exaggerate the implications, I underestimated his evil.

I am afraid that the USSC might possibly strike down the act making it open season on us all.....We can be sure, however, that if we get republican majorities in Congress and a Huckabeeor Palin or Romney presidency that they will repeal the act.
