The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Breaking Down The Votes in Maine

by: Louise

Sun Nov 08, 2009 at 12:00:00 PM EST

Question 1 Snapshot

Awful lot of green, isn't it?

Here's a link to the actual breakdown photo- but let me explain quickly:

Red- solid 'no'
Pink- majority 'no'
black- tie
white- no data (yeah, we have alot of places with no folks whatsoever)
Lt Green- majority 'yes'
Green- solid yes

So, pretty much everything north and east of the I-95 corridor went to the Schubert-Flint/NOM/Catholic Diocese side.

Opinions may differ on particular strategies. But the unofficial results show that, as with many other cultural issues, whether Mainers voted for or against same-sex marriage largely depended on where they call home.

Rural Maine voted heavily to overturn Maine's law allowing gay and lesbian couples to wed.

In the most extreme example, 73 percent of the nearly 27,000 Aroostook County voters who cast ballots voted "yes" on Question 1. Roughly two-thirds of voters in Piscataquis, Somerset and Washington counties also favored repeal.

The opposite was true in many of Maine's more populated areas.

In Cumberland County, 60 percent of voters opposed the repeal and in Portland, Maine's largest city, that figure swelled to 73.5 percent. Roughly 54 percent of voters in Bangor and Scarborough cast votes against the repeal of the same-sex marriage law.

Gay marriage also had strong support in college towns, picking up 73 percent of voters in Orono and 63 percent in Brunswick.

One notable exception to the rural-urban divide was in the heavily Roman Catholic and Franco-American neighborhoods of Lewiston and Auburn, where 59 percent and 54 percent of voters, respectively, favored the repeal.

It's a moot point now, but I have some questions
Doesn't Maine tend to be much more rural than other states in the NE?

Doesn't Maine have a larger Catholic population, as a percentage of the whole, than many others?  Given the number of French-Canadians in those northern areas (those that are populated, at least), I would tend to think so.  As someone whose family is French-Canadian, I can see how the rationalizing of this would work.

The reason I ask these questions is the answers could be instructional in future battles in areas outside the South.  The South is going to be a special case.

Actually
RI has the highest Catholic population. About half the state is Catholic.

But looking at that map, you see hateful little pockets near Ogonquit which surprised me.

Hmm...244 Yes votes in Ogunquit
My host was very pissed about that in the gayest city in Maine.

On the other hand:

A wee bit of satisfaction that we got over 60% of the vote in Kennebukport (home of George H.W. Bush). We thought we could win Kennebukport but not by 24 percentage points.

[ Parent ]
I don't
see the support for Yes on One around Oqonquit except for Biddeford which isn't really a tourist town but a mill town.  Alot of these towns have never seen a gay person mainly because they're looking for someone that fits Porno Pete's description. Its the same way in upper NY state where my wife is from.  The people are highly prejudiced against blacks and gays because hardly any live there. People in rural Maine have never lived or worked next to a gay person and are more easily scared by Camenker style lies and half truths. People in the tourist areas see gays all the time and realize they are just people and arn't as susceptible to this crap.  Here in NH if you had the same vote you'd see the same split but I think gay marriage would be supported because most of the people in the southern teir are exposed to gays and gay couples.  Here the anti gay groups are going to attempt to replace pro gay marriage Democrat legislators with anti gay Republicans. A swing of 4% of the representatives and 3 State Senators could conceivably throw the legislature to the anti gay side.  Given the mood here its very likely this will happen, not because of gay marriage, but because of the lose of support for the Obama administration.

[ Parent ]
The polls show
majority support for marriage equality in NH. I saw an article about the possibility of a marrige repeal but the NH GOP has basically dismissed the idea. They know it's unlikely to go anywhere.

[ Parent ]
That not what they're saying in private
They've left it off their platform also. However they're telling the anti gay Cornerstone Policy Research group in Concord the complete oposite.  Sununu (father) has promised it'll be one of their top priorities in 2011. John H. Sununu, the head of the party in NH  is strongly anti gay marriage. GOP inhouse polls show support for civil unions is close to 50% but support for the repeal of gay marriage is close to 60% in the republicans stronghold districts.

[ Parent ]
Even if they regain
control of the state legislature, which I think is an uphill fight, it's not like the Governor would sign a repeal bill. Lynch has very strong approval numbers and he's likely to win reelection.

[ Parent ]
Question
I don't know where you're from but, from what I'm seeing here is the constant drip, drip, drip, of Republican negativity is causing the independent voters, the biggest "party" in NH to have real doubts about Obama. My gut feeling is if the election where held again McCain would take NH. Because of this Lynch is not that safe. Secondly Lynch goes with the flow and is not a strong supporter of gay marriage and could very well not veto a repeal.

If an election on gay marriage by itself was held tomorrow I think gay marriage would win but hold the election in January giving the Anti folks time to use their scare tactics and and spread their Camenker lies on the net and the results could be close to maines.  The gay right's side has to find a way to neutralize porno pete and carmenker.

[ Parent ]
Maybe you're right,
but the polls still show Obama with strong approval numbers among independents.

Here's the latest from University of NH survey center:

"Currently, 91% of New Hampshire Democrats, and
65% of political independents approve of the job Obama is doing as President but 79% of Republicans disapprove."

http://www.unh.edu/survey-cent...

[ Parent ]
I saw that
Poll but Obama is down to 55% approval here as far as the total goes and I don't feel the independent support is that strong.  The indendents I talk to have only weak support for Obama and it would not take much to push them to vote Republican depending on the candidate. Today an article by Dick Morris really dumping on "obama's healthcare plan" was sent to me by two obama voters asking me what "I thought".

[ Parent ]
Bottom Line
2010 is going to be here in a hurry and I have real doubts about holding on to NH.

[ Parent ]
does the gov sign initiative bills?
Legislative-initiated ballot measures tend not to have to be signed by the Governor, but then again, they often have to be approved by two-thirds of the state legislature (that's the law in California)

What's the law in NH?

Maggie's new talking point is that 4 of 5 of the states that have gay marriage are reconsidering it.

This is bullsh*t (like most of what comes out of Maggie's, umm, mouth).

Vermont: Solid.
Massachusetts: Solid.
Connecticut: Solid.

Iowa, possible repeal attempts in 2010.
NH, possibe repeal attempts in 2010--must pass legislature (controlled by Dems
)

Plus by 2010 we should have added NY and NJ and DC to the above list. 2010 should focus on getting "everything but marriage" bills in RI, ME and OR. (as well as defending IA and NH)

Apparently my malaise
is shared by many others in Maine.

THESE MoFo's are always so quick to say lets MOVE ON after they attack OUR families.

OH F*CK NO!

I want those donors names from NOM and I want them yesterday. Did anyone in Maine see businesses displaying YES signs? We need to know them.

We pretty much did worse everywere in the state than in 2005
You can't pin this all on Aroostook.  Statewide we generally did worse than we did in 2005.

We won most of the areas that we won in 2005, but with slimmer margins.  A few areas that we won in 2005 flipped to the losing side, like Kennebec county and several other moderate counties.  And where we lost in 2005, we lost again but by greater margins.  So ultimately, whereas we had a 10% win in 2005, this time we had a 5.5% loss with an incredible 60% turnout.

This is not necessarily No on 1's fault.  The vote in 2005 was on a different issue on which we normally get better support.  We lost on that issue in 1998 and it took 7 years to get to a win.  It wouldn't surprise me if history doesn't repeat itself and we win in 2016.

BACKLASH against Bishop Malone
God this gave me some joy after the anger consuming me
from gay americablog by Joe Sudbay
http://gay.americablog.com/200...

"The marriage campaign in Maine is going to end up costing Bishop Malone much more than $550,000.

This morning, there was a silent protest in front of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland, Maine. That's the church my parents attend, where I was baptized and confirmed and where we had the funerals for my grandparents. The Facebook crowd was organizing the protest, but when I told my 73 year old mother about it (and she's not the Facebook crowd), she said, "Oh, I wish I knew." It's hard to explain the significance of that. My mother also just read this letter to the editor to me from Saturday's Portland Press Herald:"

Having met Mrs. Sudbay
I can tell you that is INDEED a very significant statement! WOW... I gotta wrote to Joe in the morning.

I read some of the comments at Portland Herald on Question 1
It's not good for me to read this stuff attacking the Question 1 campaign, and the smarmy haters who used hiding behind children, and G*D DAMN stock photo family pictures to sway people. I am proud of No on 1 campaign, and their heroic work...but for me, I feel I need to brush the dust of Maine off my clothes and go elsewhere.
Then I see Gallagher and the seething just overwhelms me.
It doesn't bother her, and the happy bigots tell Maine we need to move on....and it eats me alive.

QUESTION!
If "they" can get a petition signed to put marriage to a vote, can we get a petition signed that our rights should NOT be up for a vote?

The conservative/religioous rights got Maine twice now with ballot votes and it is kicking our arses all over this country!

Btw, Sununu is an ass. Every other commercial during voting season (it's about right - they hunt us like we're in season!) is his mug and it's the usual bipolar republican tactics.

Folks, WE need to reform ourselves NOW and not lose another state.
