The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

The envelope, please... and the winner is CATHOLIC DEMOCRATS!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 8, 2009

Catholic Democrats Celebrates Passage of Health Care Reform by House of Representatives and Applauds Speaker Nancy Pelosi for Her Leadership

Urges All Catholics to Support Adding Provisions to Senate Bill that Expand Health Care Coverage as Human Right

Boston, MA -  Catholic Democrats applauds the passage of the Affordable Health Care for America Act (H.R. 3962) which passed the U.S. House of Representatives last night by a vote of 220 to 215.  We congratulate and thank Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for her leadership in passing this historic legislation which will expand health care coverage to an additional 30 million people (covering an estimated 96% of all Americans), prevent insurance companies from denying health insurance for pre-existing conditions, and provide for a public option to compete with private insurance plan.

"This is a day for celebration among Catholics and all Americans who believe that life's greatest test is how deeply we care for one another," said Dr Patrick Whelan, president of Catholic Democrats.

"We urge the Catholic members of Congress who have not supported the passage of this bill to follow the courageous example set by Representative Joseph Cao (R-LA), a Catholic and former Jesuit seminarian, and support this landmark legislation now.  This reform represents progress in helping our nation to realize the Gospel imperative of making health and healing available to all Americans."

The Catholic Church has been at the forefront of advocating for health care as a right for decades, including pastoral letters issued by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) in 1981 and 1993.  Passage of an amendment by Bart Stupak (D-MI) resolved the abortion issue to the bishops' satisfaction so they can now support legislation that will bring the nation closer to universal coverage, especially for poor people and immigrants.

"Now that suitable language addressing abortion funding has been agreed to in the House bill, it opens the way for all Catholics - Democrats, Republicans and Independents - to support the provisions of this bill, which are in accordance with Catholic Social Teaching," said Steve Krueger, national director of Catholic Democrats.

"Catholics have an innate understanding of the role universal health care coverage will play in promoting the common good.  Now is the time to build on the success of the House bill and pass legislation that codifies our belief that health care is a fundamental human right."

About Catholic Democrats
Catholic Democrats is an association of state based groups representing a Catholic voice within the Democratic Party, and advancing a public understanding of the rich tradition of Catholic Social Teaching and its potential to help solve the broad range of problems confronting all Americans. Catholic my eye.......
I think Im gonna vomit!  While Im glad Health care passed via senate....I don't really care for the religious overtones....where's all this compassion for LGBT Americans when it came to the Fight for the Hate Crimes Bill or Marriage Equality??

can we have the deal that the Catholics get?
They get to make final decisions about what legislation passes or is rejected, based upon the Bishops' feelings upon subjects.

Well, we LGBT's want the same rights

Legislation that denies FCC licenses to religious groups unless they agree not to broadcast any anti-gay programmming

An end to the faith based intitiative whereby LGBT tax dollars go to supporting programmes of churches that won't hire us and frequently will not serve us.

I tell you Chica that no greater abomination exists than women denying their spirit of sisterhood and instead becoming the oppressor. -Rebeca, Universidad Complutense de Madrid

i've a better idea,
if you really, really, really want to piss them off:

denial of tax exempt status, for any institution who, for whatever reason, discriminates against anyone.

An end to the faith based intitiative whereby LGBT tax dollars go to supporting programmes of churches that won't hire us and frequently will not serve us.

trust me, this will hit them even harder. as a private entity, you can discriminate however you like. i, as a taxpayer, shouldn't be required to support it, directly or indirectly. see: burning tree country club.

My name is Sue! How do you do! We'll see you in court!
The Lemon Test (Lemon v. Kurtzman) holds that a law, first, must have a secular legislative purpose; second, its principal or primary effect must be one that neither advances nor inhibits religion, ... finally, the statute must not foster "an excessive government entanglement with religion."

Seems to me that the USCCB, this group, et al et al, have published ample proof that the second prong is in play. The IRS also says, vis à vis religious nonprofits, that "they must not devote a substantial part of their activities to attempting to influence legislation," among other things.

It could be that Bennyandthejets XVI and his confrères may have overreached.

Speaking of Catholics and Catholic Teachings...
Here's something the church may be able to get behind, plus I think its pretty clever:

California Group Gains State Approval for Ballot Initiative That Supports "Traditional Marriage" by Outlawing Divorce

2010 California Marriage Protection Act Needs 694,354 Signatures by March 2010 to Qualify for the November Ballot

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(Business Wire)--
John Marcotte, a married father of two who voted against last year`s Prop 8,
might seem an unusual proponent for a bill designed to further "protect
traditional marriage" until he explains how he plans to do it: by outlawing
divorce in the state of California.

snip

Just two weeks ago, Marcotte received approval from the office of California Secretary of State Debra Bowen for his marriage initiative, which prepared a legal title and summary that will appear on initiative petitions, the first step in placing the bill on the California ballot in 2010. There`s good news for taxpayers too: according to the Legislative Analyst and Director of Finance, the state could save hundreds of millions of dollars annually due to the elimination of divorce court proceedings
.

I can't wait to see what the reactions of the various sanctimonious parties will be.

Maggie Gallagher Parody - awsome! and Ohh so True
The organization, Catholic Democrats, may be okay
If you visit their website, I think you will see that they represent the "good" Catholics: those who care about peace, poverty, and yes, health care for all. The site even justifies why its okay for a Catholic to vote for pro-choice candidates.

That said, LGBT concerns don't register in their list of issues.  Given the Catholic Church's hostility in such matters, maybe that is a good thing.  Or... maybe its an opportunity to work with Catholic Democrats to win them over.

Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from a religious conviction.

Don't sound like Catholics to me.

I heard that during the Healthcare debate
some Catholic congresscritters or their staffers were in direct telephone contact with the Bishops, running the bill's language by them.

I remember when people were worried that JFK would do that - how far we have fallen.

BRAVA to Rachel Maddow, she was on Andrea Mitchell and is on the warpath over Stupak
Can't wait for her show tonight.
190 pledged pro-choice Congressional Dems say if that amendment isn't stripped in conference, they aren't voting for the bill.

Some mealy mouth pundit was trying to spew some nonsense about kicking the Stupak amendment down the road a few years with triggers....NOT A CHANCE. Claire McCaskill was saying the Senate might put in Stupak too. OH HELL NO! She said she was pro-choice, I donated to her campaign, you don't just get to be pro-CHOICE when it's EASY.

Good investigation of NOM funding in Maine and Iowa
   http://www.edgeboston.com/inde...
more at link

"Wayne invited the organizations to respond to allegations by Fred Karger, founder of Californians Against Hate, that NOM is hiding the sources of $250,000 it has thus far contributed to the Stand for Marriage Maine campaign. The commission gave the organizations until Sept. 17 to submit a response.

The commission letter pointed out all PACs are required to report the names and addresses of contributors who have given more than $50 and that "it is illegal for a PAC to knowingly accept a contribution made by one person in the name of another person."

Karger alleges NOM and three other funders of Stand for Marriage Maine-the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland, the national office of the Knights of Columbus (a Catholic fraternal organization) and Focus on the Family's Maine Marriage Committee-are "laundering money" to evade disclosure of the actual contributors to the campaign.

"If true, these allegations might constitute violations" of Maine election laws, the commission letter stated.

Wayne wrote the $250,000 in campaign contributions reported thus far "could suggest that NOM solicited and received funds for the purpose of initiating the referendum" even though letters to potential donors last March only discussed radio advertising in Northeast markets promoting heterosexual marriage.

Because Karger's allegations were "less specific," the commission is not asking for responses from the other contributors, but copied them on the letter so they would have the opportunity to comment if they wished.

Critics of NOM's tactics in both Iowa and Maine report letters seeking contributions emphasize the identities of donors would be protected from being targeted "by gay marriage advocates for harassment."
