Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Don's AFA Alert goes out over Heinz 'gay kiss' ad

by: Pam Spaulding

Tue Jun 24, 2008 at 20:15:00 PM EDT

Does Don Wildmon sit around just sit around all day salivating as he waits for his Google Alert for "gay" to pop up?
Heinz ad pushes gay marriage and family, features homosexuals kissing

I thought you might be interested in seeing the Heinz ad featuring a homosexual family and two homosexuals kissing.

The ad features a "homosexual family," referring to one of the men as "Mom."

We suggest you forward this to all your family and friends letting them know of the push for homosexual marriage by Heinz. This ad is currently running in England, but no doubt can be expected in the U.S. soon. It is the kind of ad which we can expect to see in California as they prepare to vote on homosexual marriage. Homosexual marriage is illegal in England.

Take Action

Send an email letter to Heinz.

Make a phone call to Heinz. Their corporate headquarters' phone number is 412-456-5700 and their toll-free number is 800-255-5750.

By the way, Heinz pulled the ad, and gay groups have called for a boycott.
The gay rights group Stonewall has urged supporters to stop buying Heinz products. Ben Summerskill, the chief executive of the group, said: "We're shocked that an innocuous ad should have been withdrawn in this way. I can't imagine that Heinz would respond to protests about black people featuring in their adverts."

Heinz Homosexual Hegemonism
Clearly the ad is even more subversive than the fundies realize.  It posits a New Yorker at home in an English kitchen; a big beefy guy being called "Mum" and acting motherly; and the subtext is about condiments (read condoms) for meat being put into buns.

"In order to maintain an untenable position, you have to be actively ignorant."  The Colbert Report

Never underestimate...
How low the IQ of fundies can get. Wait, I think I just insulted the developmentally delayed.

Seriously, though, clearly the point is that the mustards are so gen-uu-ine New Yawk that you'll seem like a deli owner - even if you're really a woman. It's like a joke.

The sad thing is, it's not even that good a commercial for being relatively groundbreaking. I barely noticed the mustards - was too confused as to what this guy was doing in a kitchen being called "Mum" by the kids from Mary Poppins.

That's not a gay family.
That's a straight one, that treats the stay-at-home mother like a short-order cook or deli counter guy.

My feminist buttons are pushed, I'm afraid.

That was my take on it
and I've been the short order cook in the family.  I thought it was very clever and charming otherwise.  I wonder exactly who the complainants (US? UK?)were and whether Wildman had any pull.  Odd for them to pull it in Britain, ads there have always been edgy.

Context
over at JoeMyGod the response is primarily IRATE that Heinz pulled the ad.

There was no discussion about how Heinz put the ad out there and were forced to pull it by the fundie response to the ad monitoring agency in the UK.

It is amazing how different the response is based on how info is presented...

correction on my part
I should have said AmericaBlog, not JMG...

my apologies...

Support the Good Guys, not the bad!
Someone over at AE made the point that it might work better to buy Heinz products and then send the receipts with a Thank you for making the commercial in the first place and encouraging them not to buckle under. I liked it because a) you can donate the mayo to a food bank and b) proof that we have the economic power to matter, and c) we support those friendly and open to the cause!  :~}

"You bit the hand Marty, you bit the hand!"

RE: not gay ad
Well, I don't like it. So the British mother becomes a NY Deli  MAN when she uses this mayo?
And when do NY Deli's serve MAYO on most sandwiches?

So you're saying...
It should have been pulled for truth in advertising. (grins)

This ad's pretty innoculous. I think point about being offended from feminist slant makes more sense than the gay one.

I think the number of people in the UK who complained were about 200, at least in the news story I read. Really, that's not many.

More disgusting subversion
Mayo is a stand-in for cum.  No wonder the fundies are going mad, mad, mad. The ad is perverse beyond belief.

...but imagine.
The kick they get whenever they use it.... Spread it and eat it and lick it off the knife etc. My favorite is actually with artichokes... but cant think how to make that sexy.

It's the Hammer of JUSTICE,
It's the Bell of FREEDOM,
It's the Song about LOVE between,
my Brothers and my Sisters
...All over this Land.

Artichokes
are just thinly veiled stand-ins for vulvas.  If your POV Is distorted enough, sex is EVERYWHERE!

[ Parent ]
They're very sexy
Since you have to suck them to get what you want.

My thoughts for what little it's worth
After watching the report about the ad on CNN. I have to say I personally feel that all three of the people they interviewed missed the point. It was meant to be homorous, which leads me to think that the Deli Cook was supposed to represent a female mother/wife. If it was supposed to be man's male husband then he probably wouldn't be wearing the deli "uniform" in the kitchen first thing in the morning. (I know one could argue that he is a Deli Cook and either just got home from a night shift or was heading out after sending the family out the door, but I feel that is stretching the depth of characters in a commercial)

What bothered me though about the interview on CNN is that I expected the fool from AFA to cry about it because it is gay, but he mentioned it is furthering the Gay Agenda. How many commercial reinforce the heterosexual agenda? What about Country Crock commercials? Or the I Can't Believe It's Not Butter commercials where the woman is whisked away to find the man of her dreams... Please.

From the Fox News article:

"I just want mayonnaise. I don't want guys kissing," he said.

Yeah, and I just want butter without having to see the entire life of this hetersexual couple from dating through marriage and up to her pregnancy, which reinforces there heterosexual relations. (My partner loved those Country Crock commercials because they showed the progression, I just found them ridiculous.) That's a silly argument when you look at it from the other side isn't it? Actually the only commercials that really bother me are the toilet paper commercials, but that is another rant.

The business analyst they interviewed on CNN said that it was of Heinz to pull the ad because it doesn't show a Traditional family (on AFA payroll?) and that there are more traditional families. By that rational there should be no minorities in commercials at all. I can honestly say I've never watched a commercial and thought, "Hm, I really would like to try that brand of bread, but I don't think I should because that persons skin color is different than mine."

Finally I think it was ridiculous for them to pull the ad after only 200 (or 202 according to the Fox news link) complaints, especially because they were probably complaining about the "gay" content. I'd be more accepting of them pulling it, if the complaints were mostly about the portrayal of a woman as a short order cook.
