Style guides from AP , NYT now state that

"gay, Lesbian, GLBT " etc are to be used and not "homosexual" unless the artical is clearly talking about specifically sexual situations.

Using "Homosexual" is all about talking about what people do in bed and is considered prejudicial.

The fundies know this so they have their opposite style gudes - when they take something from the AP they will change "gay" to homosexual.

The same thing applies to "marriage" - on fundie sites you will always see the word with guote signs around it when talking about gays.

I believe we're saying the same thing...

...in with two different approaches. I think the AFA is using the term homosexual because of DSM II's use of homosexuality as a mental health diagnosis, and as you pointed out in your diary, they're likely doing it specifically to dehumanize gay, lesbian, and bisexual people.

It's also what they're doing now with transgender folk, tying us folk to the DSM-IV diagnosis of Gender Identity Disorder.

on 6/27:  TIMBERWOLVES TRADE MAYO TO MEMPHIS FOR LOVE.  

Minnesota Timberwolves fans went to bed wondering how O.J Mayo would fit in with their guard-heavy team. 

Memphis backers hit the hay hoping Kevin Love would open things up for Rudy Homosexual on the frontcourt.

 

....just retyping it I am seeing all the truly funny stuff here...lets see 

1) who would ever trade love for mayo?

2) I think mayo could help anyone fit into a guard-heavy team..its pretty slippery.

The original authors and the AP are going to be pissed...

One News Now could lose it's license to republish AP stories, and I bet the piece's original authors are taking flak from readers who think they're 'morans'.  Plus, dicing up copyrighted articles and plugging in substitute words is a clear violation of copyright law and a violation of AP's stylebook and rules for third parties.

Homosexual is a clinical term...

...until the late 1970's 'homosexual' was a clincal diagnosis of a "mental illness' -- it is a medical term.  The APA finally realized their own bigotry in the late 70's and removed the diagnosis from their literature.

Heterosupremists use the term because they still believe that being gay is some kind of mental defect and because they know gay people prefer to be called gay, and will attempt to belittle, anger, and annoy us in any childish way they possibly can in an attempt to cater to their all-consuming hatred of us.

This is why 99% of gay people call themselves gay or lesbian and not homosexual which also has exclusively sexual overtones making sound like we perform sex acts 24 hours a day.  Gay is actually derived from the French word 'gei'.  

Have you EVER heard of a straight person refer to them self as a "heterosexual"? Many can't even pronounce it correctly.

'Homosexual' is to 'gay' as 'negroid' is to 'African American'.

Remember the idiotic recent comments of the current governor of Texas in a NY Times interview which :

What I find amusing...

...though slightly OT, is that Tyson Gay is the only man on Earth who can challenge the prides and joys of Jamaican manhood, namely, Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell.

Should either Bolt, currently the astounding 6'5" world record holder in the 100m dash, or Asafa Powell, the former world record holder, win the Olympic event, well, then all will be right with the world and with Jamaica.

However, should Gay win and beat the two Jamaican runners, this will cause some heads to explode in the Land of the Righteous Murder of Bwatty Boys.

As irrational as it sounds, some in Jamaica will see a Gay victory as a gay victory, and as a Satanic victory over their pious, God-fearing nation. But the doubts will creep in, inevitably, that a victory by Gay is really a divine repudiation of their hatred.

This may be irrational, but it is certainly no more irrational than their hatred in the first place.
