Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Bishop Harry Jackson: evangelicals split on LGBT rights; I now support civil unions

by: Pam Spaulding

Mon Oct 06, 2008 at 09:30:00 AM EDT

And now he's for civil unions. Friday's appearance of professional "Christian" and anti-gay activist Bishop Harry Jackson of the High Impact Leadership Coalition on The Michelangelo Signorile Show turned out to be more newsworthy than expected.

Mike had planned to discuss the revelations about the GOP nominee's socially out, professionally closeted Senate chief of staff, Mark Buse, winner of BlogActive's Roy Cohn Award, and Sarah Palin's answer to the gay marriage question during last week's debate with Joe Biden. While those topics came up, it was Jackson's response to the question of the religious right's schism over what to do about LGBT rights generally, since they see the handwriting on the wall - they are losing on the issue of denying civil rights to us. There has been a curious silence on the Palin's performance from Dobson, Bauer and Perkins. Jackson, no wallflower when it comes to getting on the MSM, explained why.

Mike:

What's even more interesting is that Jackson, possibly reflecting other leaders and possibly showing the beginning of a split on gay rights among evangelicals, now says he's in favor of a national civil unions or domestic partnership scheme -- because he's being "realistic" -- even as he still is opposed to gay marriage:
"My concern about John McCain stepping up and being articulate about the marriage amendments is more about protecting the definition of marriage as one man and one woman as cultural guardrails...The reason I say I will work with civil unions, etc. -- that may not have been my original position, but I think it's a reality. We have had laws in New Jersey, all over the country. The reality is gay civil unions are going to be the law of the land all over the country...You may call it movement [on my part.] I call myself a realist...I think this would be a split issue [on the Christian right], a lot of people would disagree with me. But I think we're embroiled in a battle that's unfolding."
Here is the first part of Mike's interview with Jackson:

Part two is at Mike's pad.

Obviously, there a couple of obvious questions I'd have for Bishop Jackson:

* If he is for civil unions, does that mean he will come out against marriage amendments that ban CUs or domestic partnerships?

* Who are the fellow evangelicals who are not in favor of Jackson's moderated position? Tony Perkins, who wrote a book with Jackson, may hold a similar view. Lou Sheldon of the Traditional Values Coalition, who's barely tethered to reality, is probably a hardcase. Who knows where Daddy D. is.

And The Peter? I hardly think he's ready to accept any sort of reality-based thinking on these issues.

that politics makes strange bedfellows was so on the money.  I'm a closet masochist so I check out the right wing blogs from time to time to read the comments.  First of all they are in abject panic over there, which is manifested in one of two ways.  The lowest common denomonator is race baited and wondering what will happen when a "muslim terrorist" is elected President.  The more enlightened have engaged in finger pointing aimed at the religious right for pushing people away from the GOP.

Call this what it is, the evangelicals reforming their position from the fear of losing their influence withing the Republican Party.  Falwell's minions have spent innumerable amounts of time, energy and money to gain a foothold in national politics ("Kingdom Coming" by Michelle Goldberg is an amazing read and I highly reccomend it), and are loathe to give up that power.  It begs the question, however, if the evangelicals can no longer save America from same sex marriage, abortion and porn, what's in it for them?

in other words, play Separate and pretend it's equal with the Queers
Jackson's position seems more like an end run on same-sex marriage.... hehehe, I made pun....than a schism within the ranks of bigotry, e.g. "social conservatives."  With increasing numbers of Americans supporting marriage equality and the potential for ballot measure failures, Jackson and others are looking for a graceful exit.  Civil unions, they believe, will silence the uppity Queers and enshrine our second-class status for a few more generations.

No, thanks, Henry.

Jackson supports civil unions but...
says (in the 2nd part of the video) that he is working to pass FL Amendment 2.  Amendment 2 would prohibit civil unions.  Jackson is not being honest.

precisely
That's why I'd ask him about his support of amendments that would prohibit CUs. He has to reconcile that with his "newfound view."

You did say that, didn't you?
My reading comprehension isn't up to snuff today I guess. :P

It's insuting.
I see this all the time: people who are so quick to say "Oh, I support civil unions" (as if that somehow shields from rightful accusations of homophobia) are the first to vote against such initiatives.

If civil unions are so great, why is it that we don't see heterosexuals lining up to get them?

When they ask me, "why does the word marriage matter to you?" my answer is always the same, "Because it matters to YOU."

It's insulting is what it is, and the proponents think they're being "nice" to us.

Good Answer...

Welcome to the back of the bus...anyone who says that Civil Unions are the same...

What was that little saying "SEPARATE BUT EQUAL" ... I thought we threw that out a long, long time ago!

Well OBAMA babe what do you say about that???

It's the Hammer of JUSTICE,
It's the Bell of FREEDOM,
It's the Song about LOVE between,

Has somebody IMed Matt Coles with this validation of his prediction?
I think we can safely declare the goalposts moved, folks.

Harry Jackson is  'for civil unions because [he's] a realist'.

Between this and CA adding a check-box for 'Bride'/'Groom'--which is a symbolic victory for our side, because it was literally the only thing that marriage equality was taking away from straight couples and we don't care either way--it's a banner day for marriage equality.

But wait, there's more!
