Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Towleroad wins 2008 Weblog Award for Best LGBT Blog

by: Pam Spaulding

Wed Jan 14, 2009 at 03:42:31 AM EST

Results should be certified by Wednesday night, but the runaway vote-getter from day one in the Best LGBT Blog category of the 2008 Weblog Awards was Towleroad, finishing up 37% of the vote. Congrats!

Last year the award was given out at Blogworld in the same calendar year, so I'm not certain when Andy Towle will receive the Styrofoam posterboard winner's "plaque" like the one I picked up for Joe Jervis when Joe.My.God won the category in 2007.

***

BTW, the Blend came in a distant fourth (8.9%), behind The Bilerico Project and Joe.My.God. Not an unexpected showing, given I didn't campaign, and actually, that's a better finish than I thought, since a whole day of voting opportunity was effectively lost when Soapblox was hacked and PHB was toast. Readers would have had to go out of their way to vote, since PHB's front page with the handy link was inaccessible. I didn't bother reminding folks to vote once back online either since, well, dodging the full-blown loss of four years of work and a platform in crisis had my mind, well, elsewhere. So many thanks for the 2,848 votes cast for the Blend, and congrats to my fellow finalists.

BTW, the latest update from Soapblox is here.

Not to diminish but...
Pam's House Blend is very unique. The content is much more in depth than Towleroad or Joe.My.God. (I don't visit The Bilerico Project enough to express and opinion about them.)

I think Towleroad jumped in popularity this year due to the lists and updates of Join the Impact events. I know I began visiting the blog much more frequently. Until a few months ago, it was a bit too heavy on gossip and pop culture stuff for my tastes. The content has really changed focus quite a bit -- and that's a good thing.

I like Joe.My.God. because it serves as a nice digest of LGBT news. But, there's not a lot of meat to the matter there.

When you look for the bad in mankind, expecting to find it, you surely will.

Agreed
The one thing Towleroad does very well, and that keeps me checking in regularly, is coverage of international gay news.  Nobody else seems to pay it much attention.

But the "pop culture stuff" annoys the hell out of me.  Nine times out of ten I don't know who that cute little TV-star twink in the story is.  Much less do I care about the rumors about this or that underwear model.

I am not interested in picking up crumbs of compassion thrown from the table of someone who considers himself my master. I want the full menu of rights.  -Archbishop Desmond Tutu

"Pop culture stuff"
That drove me away well over a year ago. The obsessive focus on white gays got to be a pain in the ass, as with Towle's inability to notice or deter racist commentary. That tripe would have to change a whole lot for me to boost his hit count again.

Pam, you're in The New Yorker - not too shabby!
Pam, I hope you know how great you are and how great the Blend is, all popularity contests aside.  And in the aftermath of the hacking of Soapblox, none other than Jeffrey Toobin gave you a mention in this week's Talk of the Town column in The New Yorker.  A wonderful and deserved promotional.  Take care, Cindy Rizzo

Towlewho?
Seriously, Pam, I never go there unless it's linked here or someplace else. It's not on my radar, it's not on my menu unlike The Blend, TPM, ThinkProgress, DailyKos,the WaPo, the NYT, Raw Story, Der Spiegel, Buzzflash, and Salon(in which I just published for the first time! http://www.salon.com/books/fea...

Weblog Awards
There's four places I go every day: Pam's, Joe's, Andy's and my own blog, not necessarily in that order! Pam, of all the sites in the contest, yours is the most unique, especially insofar as it offers some in depth coverage not found elsewhere. Good work!

Towleroad #1?
Maybe I caught them on some off days, but I have not been impressed by Towleroad.

Winning a beauty contest doesn't necessarily make the winner the best entry.

Pam's House Blend and The Bilerico Project are the two best sites I know about and check daily.

The Blend is number One in my book...
in several categories at that...
Thanks always.

PHB rocks
I never spend any time on Towleroad (unless Pam has directed me there for a story!) mostly because of the reasons mentioned already...too white, too pop-culture-obsessed, and most of all, too male-dominated. But I am on PHB almost daily and I feel very enriched, educated, and outraged (in the right ways) by most of what I read here.

I really, really appreciate Pam's House Blend and the community of thoughtful folks who participate in the dialogue.

Pam's is really the only GLBT-focused blog that I spend any time on, and that's because it brings perspectives from ALL parts of our community, including straight allies, people of color, transgendered folks, etc.

Thanks for ALL you do, Pam, and I will say you should have been #1!!

Full disclosure
I go to both you and Towleroad (and HuffPost, fwiw) pretty regularly.  I like both blogs for different reasons, but voted for your blog four or five times because while I enjoy the photos of scantily clad underwear models (sue me; I'm a gay human), my notion of "best" leans more in the direction of what you do really well at the Blend.

Still, congrats to Andy.  I'll still spend a lot more time here ...

Pam f*ucking ROCKS!!! Congratulations Pam!

vanhattan

Since I'm from Chicago
I voted early and often for the House Blend.

After viewing the other LGBT Blogs, I still think yours is the best by far, Pam. I hit yours, Raw Story, and Huff post every day for my news.

Congrats on an excellent blog!

congrats to Towerload
I want more LGBT voices, not fewer. Each adds to our presence online.
I know who I think is the BEST, a certain Blog-Stremist...now there's a title to wear with HONOR, it shows YOU are who frightens the clown carload of bat sh*t crazies.

What have you done today, to make ya feel PROUD?
