The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

President's photo taken down at Colorado Air Force Base commissary

by: Pam Spaulding

Mon Feb 16, 2009 at 15:45:00 PM EST

We report, you decide whether this is just a blip on the radar of post-racial America.  (Colorado Springs Gazette):
President Barack Obama's picture was removed this week from a Presidents Day sign at the Peterson Air Force Base commissary after customers complained that the image did not fit the holiday commemorating the birthdays of past presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

...A cashier at the commissary who did not want her name used said pictures of past presidents, including George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, have accompanied the Presidents Day closure sign.

One customer, a military retiree, objected this year because of Obama's race, the cashier said.

"He said they're not going to have no black man on the window where he shops," the cashier said.

The commissary agency disputed the cashier's story, saying no past presidents have had their picture displayed with the holiday message. They said four customers had complained that Presidents Day is to honor Washington and Lincoln, not Obama, causing the agency to remove the Obama image.

No racism in Colorado!!
No, none whatsoever.

"It goes on one at a time, it starts when you care to act, it starts when you do it again after they said no, it starts when you say We and know who you mean, and each day you mean one more."

Schoolboy racists?
at Mullen, a private Catholic school?

Well what a suprise.

Ein Volk, Ein Vaterland
Ein Pope.....

Sad. Simply sad. Along with a holocaust denier bishop and another bishop who feels that education is wasted upon women, this speaks volumes as to where conservatism has lead the Catholic Church...

Perfectly Plausible
It goes hand and hand with the stories of evangelical proselytizing at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.  They don't like anything that upsets their image of a white, Christian, male dominated America and military.

USAF(OF)
Has been a fairly right wing Chirstian finishing school since the days of General Curtis LeMay

Also, the Air Force has not had anywhere near the kinds of casualties that the Army has had in the war, so Bush et all did not lose popularity there in the fashion that he did in the Regular Army.

Really odd
I always thought President's Day was to honor past presidents, so I'm not sure why the current president's picture was on the sign in the first place.

I'd be interested to know if Bush's picture was on the sigh over the last 8 years.

The armed forces are focused on tradition and rules, so...

Even so, I have a hard time imagining that complaining about Obama's picture on the sign wasn't partisan politics at a minimum and most likely racist.

I find it frightening that someone would feel comfortable enough to express their bigotry so blatantly and that the bigotry would be respected rather than rebuked.

The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who, in time of great moral crisis, maintain their neutrality. -- John F. Kennedy (inspired by Dante's Inferno)

According to the article, W and Clinton's pictures had been put up the same
way previously.

Not to mention, this is the current Commander in Chief we're talking about, and it's a rule that his picture along with the Sec of Defense be posted (though I'm not sure if this is the same picture talked about here or if there was a 2nd one).

It's against the UCMJ to speak badly about the Commander in Chief - it's considered a breakdown in the chain of command - I wonder how that applies to a retired military person.

I would imagine that the base commander will hear about this from a level high enough above him sweating, shaking and understanding that he is not in line for another promotion.  What happens to the civilian employee running the commissary is hard to say.

I agree with all of your points
In the reality-based community, it's always gratifying when we see the same facts.

1. Thank you for answering my question by confirming that the current president has been included on the signage for presidents' day in the past - which, of course, brings into question the motivation of the person making the complaint.

2. I thought it was about signage and not about the official photos that are likely in a more permanent display, so I assumed that this was not removing Obama's picture from the UCMJ required display -- which is generally at the main entrance in the main building and only includes the president and secdef.

3. The racist comment made is a separate issue from whether it was appropriate for Obama's picture to be included in this particular display, the comment was clearly blatant bigotry and should be handled as such.

To quote myself:

I find it frightening that someone would feel comfortable enough to express their bigotry so blatantly and that the bigotry would be respected rather than rebuked.

That this happened at all ...
... is bad enough.  That it happened on a military installation is mind-blowing.

The military was one of the first American workforces to successfully integrate, and it did so by the power of command and control.  White soldiers (and sailors, and airmen, and marines) were basically told, "you're going to serve alongside black soldiers (etc.), and you're going to like it."  Period.  And it was done.

This was possible because the military has built a culture where people take orders without question.  While other American workplaces have a couple hours or a couple days of "New Hire Orientation" (usually a Powerpoint slideshow and a chance to fill out your W-2), the military sends you to weeks of boot camp, where your rebellious streaks are identified and removed, and your capacity to endure physical duress under command is widened.

I lived on many military bases during my childhood.  And everywhere you went - the commissary, the barbershop, the movie theatre, and literally every building on base, you could find a photo of the current president, the current highest ranking officer in the service (a four-star admiral if a Navy base, a four-star general if an Army base, etc.), and that base's commanding officer.

Hierarchy is important in lots of workplaces, but it's impossible to stress just HOW important it is in the military.  And so the idea that a bunch of military vets, wives, and active servicement would complain about a photo of the COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF anywhere on base is just ... unfathomable to me.

This isn't just a sign that racism isn't dead; it also tells me that our military is significantly weaker than it was when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s.  And it really worries me.

The Air Force has been in the hands of right wing extremists
for decades. Students are browbeaten to embrace Evangelical Protestantism there whether or not they belong to another Christian path.

I hear that
I got out of the Navy two years ago and currently work at a staff command for military intel. You wouldn't believe the comments on inauguration day. Or maybe you would.

"Fucking Democrats gonna run this country into the ground."
"Goddam liberals. Fucking faggot lovers."
"Can't believe a black man was the best they could put up there."
"I will never take orders from a goddam draft-dodging uppity raghead."

I had to leave the building for a while.

Army brat co-sign
I grew up on bases all over the country too. Pictures of the CinC were ubiquitous. Beyond all that, the bolded quote clarifies what the real deal is here; Washington and Lincoln have nothing to do with it.

That retiree...
....should have his pension confiscated and his name removed from the rolls.  I don't care what your political affiliation is.  For a military retiree, who swore to uphold and defend the Constitution, to say something so despicable about the Commander in Chief on our military bases, is inexcusable conduct.

impregnating gov't agencies
GWB and his co-conspirators have impregnated all the government agencies and especially the military with his clones.  They systematically shit canned every military person in sight who had the temerity to even question any of their conqistadorial ambitions.

Gates and Petraeus are mobilizing and organizing to thwart B.O.s efforts everyway they can.  The military industrial complex has become something to be feared by a Commander in Chief, especially with the demise of the Posse Comitatus Act during the Bush reign of terror.  How else can you account for B.O. not replacing these treasonous bastards.  They are not interested in turning around the corrupt and failed policies that they married long before B.O. took office.

Petraeus has bet his future political ambitions on the success of these corrupt, lying adventures and will continue to try to convince the public of the wisdom in trying to make a silk purse from a sows ear.  Respectfully submitted for superficial inconsideration,
