Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

New bar dress codes target minorities

By RYAN STRONG

Recently, a couple of DeKalb bars have opted to enforce a dress code, making some students, including myself, speculate whether or not there is a deeper motive to erase minorities from the local nightlife.

The dress code, which started earlier this month, banned all baggy clothing at Starbusters, 930 Pappas Drive.

Molly’s Eatery and Drinkery, 1022 W. Lincoln Highway, took it one step further. The pub banned hoodies, do-rags, hats and caps, all baggy clothes, jerseys, large chains, basketball shorts, sleeveless shirts, “bling” and warm-up pants.

Both Molly’s and Starbusters declined to comment for this column.

I’ve got to hand it to them. Both bars have found a way to discriminate against people of color in 2007.

There are plenty of minorities who have committed crimes, but that does not give an accurate depiction of an entire group of people. Nor does it give any establishment the right to attempt to ban certain subgroups.

It would be illegal to ban blacks and Hispanics from any public place, but excluding people who wear baggy clothing, large chains, and do-rags is fine...........

Depends....

Not racist if the establishment is a dressy place. No amount of bling can make a hoodie into a tux.

Racist if white-style casual clothes are ok eg khakis or jeans and tshirt.

Most of the time, these dress codes that detail what clothing ISN'T allowed are racist. (aside from beachside places that specify no shoes, no service).  Formal places generally just state "Coat and tie required".

Hmmm...

If a black person dresses up like Bill Cosby (knit sweaters, slacks) or some of the cast of Noah's Arc, then there wouldn't be any problems.

Also, I wonder how the pubs would react if someone (mainly redneck) with a Confederate flag shirt or a buttoned-down shirt with the sleeves cut off.  They should have a dress code against that.

Racist

The intent is to ban "hip-hop" and why? Because they hate the music? No, because it's a way of striking against blacks.

The fact that there are whites who like hip-hop (and dress that way) and blacks who don't (and don't dress that way) is really immaterial to what they're trying to do. They don't like any cultural phenomenon which is predominant African-American. Since they can't kick the blacks out, they're trying to find other ways to say "we don't serve that kind here."

If you're sufficiently "white" by their standards (never mind all the white hip-hop fans), then you're allowed to stay.

So, yes, racist.

hrmm

hoodies

hats and caps

all baggy clothes

jerseys

basketball shorts

sleeveless shirts

and warm-up pants

----

this will effectively ban 90% of college students, frat boys, hipsters, and web 2.0 employees.

kidding aside...  well then they better ban t-shirts, soccer sandals, tevas, jeans, cargo pants, sneakers, white baseball caps and fleece jackets too.

90% of college students
Yes, but who wants to bet that they don't selectively enforce it either.

A sign that I'm out of touch with the bar scene:
My response was, simply...

who would wear that sort of clothing out on the town?

My *kids* dress that way.

*sigh*

I hate getting old...

If ya ain't trans, ya are cis. Unless ya inter. (soon to be banned again)

Don't forget chains and spikes(or a "no goths allowed" sign).
Recently a mall around my place ejected some kid for having a spiked collar. I wonder if attitudes these days are not merely racial but geared towards ensuring that only the clone type have rights to amenities.

Why yes, I think it is
If they apply this to women as well as men they will be in essence declaring that women cannot wear jewelery or sleeveless tops, and must wear tight clothing. I don't think this is going to work out the way they want it to. It appears to be a transparent attempt to annoy a large number of people in a semi, quasi, pseudo, sorta racist manner. Stupid asshats.

Finally...

...a dress code that would stop white trash like MNM (or however he writes it).

DeKalb, IL

Is a backwater trying to be a college town.  They've failed yet again......

Pathetic.

If is IS a dressy place
then the rational, non-racist thing would be to enforce a POSITIVE dress code; not NO this or that but a 'jacket and tie' policy. This smacks highly of the corn-rows policy adopted by a high school a few years back.

May I just ask
What a do-rag is?  I'm guessing something to do with the head?

ALLY (ALLIE) (transitive) To connect or form a relation between by similitude, resemblance, friendship, or love.

These dress styles may have started with blacks

but, as was said, a whole lot of young whites dress that way also.  When I see that look among kids, I think 'Ah, there's a disrespectful little shit.'  So I think it denotes an attitude. I don't see it is anti-race. I see it as anti-smartass.

Kevin Federline aspirants, beware.

Stealth racism
I think there's definitely more stealth racism going around.

Here in Northern Virginia, Caucasian yuppies really miss their formerly lily-white suburbs. Some years ago, a Chinese friend of mine moved into a new apartment. He tried to introduce himself to the upstairs neighbor, but the man wouldn't shake his hand and just said, "Fairfax is turning into a third world country," turned around and walked away. Granted, that isn't very stealthy, and most people around here are better able to tolerate Asian immigrants (that "model minority" - which is something different from respect). South Asians get by OK too (unless they wear turbans, which reminds the rednecks of Islamic terrorists).

But Hispanic immigrants... that's a different story. The latest tactic is to crack down on a pretty much unenforceable rule about no more than, what is it, three unrelated people living in the same house. Funny how the group home of (white) students and post college Bohemians just entering the workforce never gets than midnight knock on the door from the fuzz, but Hispanics come under fire (whether legal or not) for being unable to afford individual residences.

Keep your eyes peeled... it might get worse before it gets better.

"no more than 3 unrelated" could apply to lgbts with kids

need to know the context
it looks highly possible that this is a racist policy.  however, it is impossible to tell without knowing the ins and outs of local culture(s).  this reminds me of the recently released photos of talib guys posing together.  the british photographer (and western press) seem to assume that they can apply their own cultural norms when "interpreting" these photos.  therefor men holding hands and having kohl-lined eyes = faggots.  is it true?  no one bothers to provide data on the local styles so that the reader can judge at least somewhat fairly.

A Do Rag

. . . is a piece of cloth that one ties around ones hairdo to protect it when one has messy things to do.

I'm All For It
I hate blingers; not because they are black, many are white, but because of their ghetto-glorifying, uber-macho, chest-thumping, thug attitude.

Most of them are anti-gay, to boot.

If they want into the place, then they can start acting like civilized people.  Racism it's not.

I know this won't be a popular sentiment.  I don't care.

many people who
dress that way are not at all like you describe.  Many are very sweet, and some are actually gay.  Get over yourself.

[ Parent ]
No you get over YOURSELF.

[ Parent ]
And another thing
Like I said in the baggy pants post.  If you're gay head on down to South Beach; which used to be a gay place, until the blingers invaded.  Walk past the club areas, after dark, with your partner.  See if you still feel comfortable taking his/her hand as you walk on by these 'gay-loving' youths, like you did say ten years ago.

I dare you.

These people are thugs.  If a club wants to cater to this crowd, so be it.  The clubs in South Beach are re-thinking that position, especially after this past Memorial Day (a big hip-hop weekend) when the murder rate soared to a point where the city is now going to start closing the beach at 1:00 a.m., because of the violence.

But if a club wants to protect its patrons from these people and their behavior, then that is their right and it isn't because of race.

[ Parent ]
And your own biases don't factor in?

You wrote:

See if you still feel comfortable...

See, the big test is not whether white people feel comfortable, it's whether they're safe.

Black people -- and young kids -- can't be held responsible how older and/or white folks feel around them, only for what they actually do.

If you ask the average Christian homophobe if they'd feel comfortable taking their children to a gay part of town, they will tell you that they feel unsafe around those kind of people and would, honestly, like to have laws against them in order to keep their families safe.

http://kynn.com/

[ Parent ]
OK then...see if you still feel safe
I was trying to be polite.  See if you still feel safe, then.  I bet you don't.

[ Parent ]
By "polite"
I guess you really mean you were trying to not admit you are biased, if not (and I hope not) racist.  I never said all of the kids who follow this fashion are "gay loving", but I've had plenty of such friends that were straight and completely tolerant, and some that were gay, but who you apparently would assume were straight thugs.  The problem is yours, not some kids whose fashion sense scares you.

[ Parent ]
You know what's funny?
A club in my hometown has exactly such a dress code, even though it features hip-hop acts.  However, it's marketing focus is on white frat-boys.  So despite featuring hip-hop artists the clientele are held to strict dress guidelines that preclude any clothing from that sub-culture.  So ridiculous.

Not racism
All I have to say is that if I own a business I have the right to dictate the dress code. If you do not like it, then you know the saying-take your business elsewhere. Why does everthing have to be about racism or homophobia? The world is made up of rules-these college adults should start learning that sometimes we cannot do and act and yes sometimes dress anyway we wish  in the real world.
