Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Poll: more than 50% of NC adults oppose a marriage amendment

by: Pam Spaulding

Tue Mar 24, 2009 at 09:00:00 AM EDT

(NOTE: I'm in Raleigh today at the Equality NC's Day of Action to meet and speak with my legislators in the General Assembly about equality issues. I will have photos and video of the event later.)

First the good news. An Elon poll released today found that half of my fellow North Carolinians oppose a marriage amendment (N&O):

About half of North Carolina adults oppose a constitutional amendment that would prohibit same-sex marriage, according to a poll released Monday that suggests state voters may be unwilling to follow their Southern peers in approving such a ban.

...Hunter Bacot, Elon's poll director, said the numbers surprisingly mirror national surveys, indicating North Carolina may be more moderate than expected on the issue. About 30 states nationwide have added that prohibition to the state constitution, including California, which approved an amendment in a heated campaign last year.

Here's the question as asked:
Would you [support or oppose] an amendment to the North Carolina constitution that would prevent any same sex marriages?

Of course the NC Family Policy Council questions the results.
Tami Fitzgerald, an attorney with the conservative North Carolina Family Policy Council, said she disputed the methodology of the poll, noting that it surveyed all adults and not likely voters. And she said the poll's question, which asked if the person would vote to "prevent any same-sex marriages," carried a negative tone that may have skewed the results.
Now the bad news...most of my fellow Tar Heels don't want my committed relationship with Kate, a marriage recognized elsewhere in the country, to have any legal recognition whatsoever. The question:
I'm going to read you three statements, and, after I read all three, I'd like for you to tell me which statement comes closest to your position on this issue:

[(#1) I oppose any legal recognition for same sex couples,
(#2) I support civil unions or partnerships for same sex couples, but not full marriage rights, or
(#3) I support full marriage rights for same sex couples].

please excuse my ignorance on polls
But, the results for the second poll don't make any sense based on the question.

The people were given three choices and asked to pick which one comes closest to their position.

Can anyone figure out which of the percentages in the results apply to which of the three choices that were given?

I think what you have done is simply paste the results from the first poll as the results of the second poll since the results are identical.

Poll responses were inadvertently repeated in post

Yeah, that set of numbers seems to belong to the previous question.  The answers on the legal recognition of same-sex marriage question:

Support marriage equality: 21%
OK with Civil Unions but can't make the leap to full rights: 29%
Suffer apoplexy at the thought of the gay: 44%.

That's because...
Pam's peecee must have had an oopsy, causing the first poll results to be repeated where the second poll results should have been. Here are the actual results for the second question on what type of recognition our families can have in NC:

- None at All: 44.4%
- Civil Unions/Domestic Partnerships: 27.5%
- Full Marriage Rights: 20.8%

The bad news here is that a plurality still won't allow for anything. However, the good news is that they're outnumbered by the combined number of civil union/DP supporters and marriage supporters. Still, I doubt we'll soon see any pro-LGBT rights bill in the NC Legislature.

Act on Principles and make equality happen.

That's great, but...
how many of these people actually go to the polls and VOTE?

Here's what I find about compromise--
don't do it if it hurts inside,
'cause either way you're screwed,
eventually you'll find
you may as well feel good;
you may as well have some pride

didn't CA teach about polls?
The over-reaction to these numbers reminds me of a hit of good poppers back in the day.  Major rush, but hell to pay later.  Polls can be twisted in their interpretation, but the truth of our lives cannot lie.  Instead of pointing to numbers which may bear false hope, NC Queer leaders must remind everyone who is not out to at least three co-workers or members of their family that their silence will contribute to a victory for the phobes if a ballot measures comes about.
