Fundamentalist bigots have always hated the truth, and always will.

The "Satan's Lover" jibe was a bit low though. Satan doesn't love anyone, it just uses them. Of course The Peter probably doesn't quite understand this, so I guess it's at least partially true - from The Peter's point of view.

I really don't like it...

... when we go over the top with epithets like "Satan's lover." Part of authoritarianism is a persecution complex, and when we pull stunts like this, it gives them just more evidence to go back to their crew and say what a menace we are.

We just have to show up and outclass them. That's all. Resist the temptation to smear the opposition. They already do a fine job of making @$$es of themselves without any help from us.

I almost agree.

I suspect that the "satan's lover" sign is in part a reference to the South Park episodes depicting Saddam Hussein as satan's lover.  So it's actually a kinda humorous and multi-layered message, but you have to be in on the joke and there is no guaranteeing that random people seeing that sign will be, so it's poor messaging.

i don't worry about fueling the fires of those with a persecution complex.  it's not like they won't still feel persecuted if we hold only warm and fuzzy signs.  and the signs aren't only for them anyway.  the signs communicate to middle of the road lazy thinkers who may look at that sign and have a light dawn on them about just how nasty labarbara really is.

I really like the bigot sign.  Let's call a spade a spade and put them on the defensive for a change.  they are allowed to judge us in comfort, never being challenged on even footing.  bravo to the man who refuses to be judged by trash.

Of course we aren't persecuting him because he's an asshole, it's because he's a "christian".
This thread and the South Park reference had me wondering who was worse, Saddam or The Peter.  The only difference that I can see is that The Peter doesn't have means or opportunity.  Both are dumb and zealous, always trying to "out tough guy" their opposition.  

My America includes LGBT families.

Had to have seen this coming.  When they promote their radical, hate-inspired, faux christian agenda, they are self-assured that they're proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ.  When we oppose it, we're the haters.  LaBarbera either has one of the worst persecution complexes ever seen or is twisting the facts to suit himself.

The Illinois Family Institute, which LaBarbera headed until a couple of years ago, was just listed by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a hate group.  The decision to list IFI as a hate group was, apparently, based on some of LaBarbera's writings.  See link.  http://www.illinoisfamily.org/...

They also parrot LaBarbera (who often refers to IFI as "my good friends at IFI," just as he refers to his good friends at MassResistance - another SPLC-listed hate group) about the protest that took place Monday.  See link. http://www.illinoisfamily.org/...

I really think LaBarbera is doing his darndest to be listed has a hate group himself.  However, he seems to lack one thing:  a group.  Bambam doesn't count, because that would be a duo, not a group.

THE "SUCCESS" OF HOMOPHOBIC BIGOTS.

As a seminarian, I was involved in the heterosexual Black Civil Rights Movement. Yes, gay and lesbian blacks were seeking their civil rights, too, but that was not obvious, or maybe on "the down low."

I came out in 1967, and went to a gay bar on my 21st birthday. The bar was in Providence RI, since we had gone there rather than New Haven CT bars, in order to be incognito.

The bar's name was Fannings - a men's bar owned by the Mafia, and operated by the straight Fanning family. It had been on the proscripted list for military service personnel since WWII. Undercover vice cops - who removed their wedding bands and wore clothing that supposedly created the stereotypic look worked the bar inside. They drank with you and tried to entrap you and arrest you.

I survived because at 21, I was good looking and buff, and the bartender would give me the wrong drink when I ordered the "usual". Since he could be in trouble if I abruptly got up, I would chat him up frustratedly on all subjects but sex. He would eventually say goodbye and go arrest someone else.

The M-B Lounge next door had a speakeasie door. The dance floor was monitored to have equal number of gays and lesbian couples dancing. If the lights flickered, you had to switch partners or be arrested.

I marched in the Village in NYC after Stonewall two years later. My hair was "high and tight" and I wore a wig and glasses and false mustache. Bars and clubs in the country were still being raided.

It took Anita Bryant and AIDS to make me remove wig, and mustache, and yes, most importantly, my FEAR that what "they" could do to you was less important than what gentrified cocktail sipping A set gays could do to the cause of eventual equal rights under law.

I came out when the law said you were a felon, the church said you were a sinner, and the psychiatrist said you were sick. I became an activist after reserve retirement and did so with AIDS and ACT UP.

Guys like Peter La Barbera, in my opinion, are ideologically driven. The only way that they control their latency is through hate directed at their object of desire.

Guys like James Dobson - if we are to believe his onetime partner who abandoned him and apologized to the LGBT community - do not believe their homophobic tripe. Their impetus is power and hundreds of millions of dollars yearly.

  He has his feelings hurt because he is called Satan's Lover and a Bigot.  I don't know why people would call the Peter names like that.  After all he claims he is a "Good Christian" and a truth teller.

 Hey, Peter, you get labled those tags because they fit perfectly.  If you don't like being called a Bigot, Then Don't be one.  As for Satan's Lover, someone must have some truthful information because baring false witness is against god's law.

Instead of calling the Peter, Satan's Lover or a bigot we just call him the Spigot.  It sort of combines the two with a little P in the middle (take that where ever your mind takes you, and I know what you Peter are thinking too!  He seems to think that when gay people call him gay it's a put down when in reality we know many self loathing closeted gay people who will do anything to reject who they are and they usually try to destroy the people who they know they are like.

The Peter: Spigot.

I am about halfway through it.  It's revolting.  The man simply doesn't understand that religious freedom does not give him the right to force other people to act in accordance with his beliefs.

I have good news for The Peter, though: even though the mainstream media has conspired to keep it from the masses, the truth is that there are plenty of people who have won free of the Christianist lifestyle.

I vaguely recall that at some point during his vitriolic rant — I can’t remember if this is before or after he bashed Autumn by name — he says something about not always having been “a Christian” (by which I assume he means, “fundamentalist zealot”).  So at one point he may have been sane.  Or maybe I misremember that.  I don’t care enough one way or another to bother finding out.

Well...

Bigot is an apt description.  He does the things bigots do, for the reasons bigots do them.

Walks, quacks, duck.

That said, while "Satan's Lover" is probably very satisfying to say, it really isn't a phrase to use in front of the public.  It basically puts us at a level that is lower than we deserve to be.

We want to be seen on the high road, because ultimately, we'd like to travel on it without their roadblocks.

It will also work for Bam Bam Barber, James Hartline, AFA, FotF, Lou Sheldon, Andrea Lafferty, Westboro Baptist Church, MassReluctance, RepentAmerica, the WND crew, Alan Keyes, Operation Rescue/Operation Save America, BOND, Ken Hutcherson, Watchmen of the Walls, Sally Kern, Mike Suckabee, Scott Renfroe, Chris Buttars, and a whole lot of other bigots on the SPLC's radar.

2. Dan White Supremacist
It's a portmaneau of Harvey Milk's killer and white supremacist.  These bigots do have similar objectives to the white supremacists, especially when it comes to trying to wipe out a specific group.  Perhaps the bigots should lay off the Twinkies.

I mean, really, this mofo only attracts a crowd of 30?  Who cares about this idiot?  Just because they put out a lot of crazed press releases?  

It's a subtle point, but I love that they refer to a "'gay' agenda" with gay in quotes.  Because there is...no...such...thing!  It is hillarious in its level of ignorance.  Even putting "gay" agenda or "gay agenda" in quotes in your statement draw attention to the fact that it's something that you, in fact, are defining.  

Peter the Moron is all I can really say.
