As I said in another thread...

We lost by 15, but get this:

17 Republican reps didn't vote

52 Democratic reps didn't vote!

We should have won if more had showed up to vote.  It's unclear if these reps declined to vote or if they weren't in town.  A little explanation is needed to explain the latter.  We have a "citizen legislature".  They only get paid $100/year plus travel.  As a result many of these folks have regular jobs besides being legislators.

We WILL win next time.  This experience really pissed me, and probably many others, off.  You can be sure that next time our effort will be much stronger.

Going by

You must respect your enemies. Our homophobic enemies are first of all, not friends nor acquaintances, they are ideological enemies. Their RW religion tells them that we are beyond redemption, and that we need anihiliation.

 If you are a Christian, you must love them nevertheless, but you are morally obliged to protect yourself, and fight for you, against the enemy.

 Having said this, the Right Wing Religionists understand the fragile alliance between the " gender identity " wing versus the "psychosexual orientation" wing of LGBT. They also know that there is dynamic tension between LG and often B, against T.

 Even the psychiatrists and other physicians, and psychologists and other therapists, changed the DSM for psychosexual orientation in 1972 but have not yet, in 2009 changed the dysfunction definition in the DSM for gender identity. Insurance companies listen and do not pay for sex reassignment surgery. Homophobes listen and love to see the lines blurred and exploit the division among us.

 Politicians and their hacks, like HRC, since the departure of Cheryl Jacques, has meant that the triangulating pragmatists often throw our transsexual brothers and sisters under the bus, as easily as we who like Cheryl insist upon civil marriage or nothing inferior.

I would like a dime every time I have known a widow or widower lose everything to a homophobic next of kin of their late partner. They may have more attorney documents or RDP's or CU's and then the sheriff says " It ain't marriage, faggot!!" I have seen wedding bands handed over to hateful relations.

Errors.

Adult Homosexuality is removed from the DSM. Being gay or lesbian is still in it. GID in youth is also known as "sissy boy syndrome", and affects far more gay kids than trans kids.

Indeed, it underlies the entire practice of the doctor who transfolk considr the current embodiment of evil, Zucker.

Marriage will not solve the issues. Indeed -- transfolk have lost rights of marriage due to the fight for gay marriage. So don't go trying to tell us that it is a cure all.

It isn't.

COMMENTARY ON DSM AND DOMINIONISM.

My spouse is an LCSW, and our lesbian neighbour is a psychiatrist (MD) who is married to a clinical psychologist (PhD) and I asked them about your commentary.

 First of all, I said that GID was not changed in the DSM. Your subjective opinion about gay vs trans youth notwithstanding, my own comment was directed toward those professional associations who neglected to change the DSM.

 Cameron et al will always find a crack in the cement to create their malevolence. "Being gay and lesbian is still in it....but not as an intrinsically disordered orientation or behavior....they are like termites in that commercial for Orkin.

 The cure-all for transsexuals is simultaneous DSM change and the passage of a federal ENDA. I am NOT one who wants to divorce "gender identity" from "psychosexual orientation" in the LGBT struggle.

Two things

I wasn't speaking of cameron, and GID in youth does indeed apply to gay kids.

Again -- Look to Dr. Zucker who is about the opposite of Cameron ideologically, and quite "gay friendly", in fact.  He's even one of the group that surrounds one of the most effective gay researchers, Bailey.

Ask your friends about their view on Zucker, who is heading the overall working group for that section of the DSM 5. If they don't immediately recognize the name, then they aren't familiar enough with its use to even understand the orgins and background behind sissy boy syndrome, and why its still present in the DSM and is specifically applied to gay youth.

As for a cure all, I'm inclined to suspect that removal of the exclusion from the ADA would go a lot farther in all ways since it is an Omnibus bill that covers employment, housing, medical attention, and adaptations (killing the bathroom argument).

ENDA merely covers work, and the DSM is pie in the sky for at least another 15 years.

And lets not forget the ICD in the process.

DOMINIONISM...

 
As an episcopal prelate, I can deal with the issue of Dominionism. Suffice to say, the Right Wing Religionist's theological views have a "theological dyssonance" with the LGBT affirming Christianity that I have served for over four decades.

I know many Dominionists, and they know me to be an " in their face" opponent of their tripe. Christ was angered at the moneychangers and at the Pharisees. This is likened to those who opposed his Essene path to spirituality.

 I understand the LGBT agnostic or "atheist" born into a faith system that has not only rejected them, but called them by epithets that are verbally and spiritually violent, and cause the worst among us to physically bash and kill us. Gay-affirming Christians and Log Cabin Republicans (I am NOT one) seem to have the same poll ratings among us. LOL.

 Dominionists are nothing new. They have always found political reactionaries willing to marry their views with these theocrats. Their payoff is a "fascist reactionary official church" to further control the masses and to clearly define the scapegoats they want to destroy...namely, us.

Do you ask yourself why the homophobic organizations petitioned the insurance companies to deny sex reassignment surgery?

It is because with the appropriate genitalia, they can no longer scare them with the " wrong genitalia " in a public bathroom. Do you see how well it works. It is all about the penis....yes, the penis on a transsexual woman.

It works for the homophobe as it worked in Jim Crow against the massive black male penis...stereotypic....out to rape the white woman. This is also the reason why miscegenation was thought to be part of God's plan in dividing the races by continents. That is phony theology, but it works with the RW theocrats.

So, the next time, you applaud inferior rights, or the next time that you want to throw the T out of LGBT - think on this.

Simple solution

Mandate that any facility that currently provides multi-stall rest room facilities also provide at least one single-stall unisex rest room facility enterable from a common area.  Note that this single-stall facility is not conceptually to be used by transgender people; it is to be available for use by those with bathroom-stalker phobias.  

This single-user facility is to be emblazoned by a gender-neutral icon such as the silhouette of a toilet bowl.  Possibly, one with anthropomorphized happy face with blushing cheeks.

This has the additional advantage of providing a nice little surge of employment stimulus; architects, plumbers, construction workers needed in pretty much every public building in the country.

Sort of takes the wind out of the argument, no?

The restroom problem is a genuine issue. LGBT advocates who don't recognize this are about as astute as those in California who squandered a 55%-35% lead on Prop 8.

To the restroom objection, Ms Sandeen counters that there aren't any "actual cases of crossdressed or transgender people committing predatory acts in the women's restroom". I don't know whether that irrelevant response is based on insincerity or stupidity. Either way, such non sequiturs will discredit the LGBT community.

The actual problem, of course, is not that transwomen may become sexual predators. It's that sexual predators may pretend to be transgender. Currently, women can and will sound an alarm if a male-appearing person enters the women's restroom. If transgender women (some of whom appear distinctly male) begin to use the women's restroom, then the right to sound an alarm is obscured. That's what could, and eventually would, prompt a potential predator to pretend to be transgender.

You can bury your head in the sand and pretend this problem doesn't exist, and that will cause a setback to our civil rights movement. What we need instead is to acknowledge the problem, and try to come up with some adequate preventive measure. I wish there were an obvious answer, but there's not.

  The crap you are trying to sell is the same crap muslims in this country face from bigots.  You better not let that Muslim Family in the toystore, they might have bombs strapped to them.

 The fact is, men who wish to do terrible things will do them.  This world of constantly living in fear has driven people over the edge.  

 Not every biker that wears a leather jacket is a member of the Hell's Angels.  But using your logic, every restroom then must be made to accomidate one person at a time.  Better put a motion detector in place as well to make sure the bathroom is not occupied, or place a guard at evey door.

 Trans folks have been using restrooms for years.  Are you saying now that the issue that trans folks do exist that we have given men who plan to do harm to others a new idea on how to do it?  Give me a break.  

 The fact that the religious right had to stage such an event in Maryland goes to show that the fears they spread are complete Bull Shit.  How far are you willing to ride the fear wagon?  Do we start discriminating against Goth because they make some people nervous?  Do we continue to lable all people who wear leather jackets as criminal bikers?  Yeah, let's just walk around and be fearful of everyone.  Lets think that everyone has bad intentions if they are not just like you.  Lets force everyone to look one certain way and lock those up who don't.  You better not allow Muslims to put their own gasoline in their cars because Muslims are terrorists and might just be pulling up to the gas pumps to blow everybody up.

 And don't let homosexuals be teachers, they need to be kept away from the children.

Post ops and pre ops use women's restrooms day in and day out without fuss, whilst some butch Lesbians get accosted and ushered out.

Even for the second wave Lesbians, no one thinks that privacy is significantly violated given the architecture of women's rooms.

The problem only exists in the minds fo the extreme right given that tens of thousands of trans people use women's rooms daily.

The actual problem, of course, is not that transwomen may become sexual predators. It's that sexual predators may pretend to be transgender.

And how many times has this ever happened?

None. Zero. Nada. Zip.

Not once. Not in 35 years since this kind of law was first enacted.

In fact, all jurisdictions that bar discrimination in the provision of "public accommodations" on the basis of sex - and that means just about everywhere now - would, by the exact same theory, allow predators into women's restrooms.

This doesn't happen. It has never happened. Not a single case.

Predators do sometimes use women's restrooms as their attack places, but they've never, not once, attempted to use such a law as a defence for being there. Because their presence isn't illegal, only the lewd conduct. Or every single father who's taken his 5 year old daughter into the ladies' room would be subject to arrest.

There's been no change in the rate of predation in or out of restrooms as the result of these laws, not in the 38% of the US that protects on the basis of "gender identity", or the 90-something % that protects on the basis of "sex".

It's a lie, pure and simple, and you're propagating it out of ignorance or malice. But disproving a negative is impossible, we could go 10,000 years and they could still say "well, it could happen at any time.".

There is no situation so complex it can't get even worse

It is an issue only because people are capitalizing on an earlier lie regarding homosexuals as predators.

If you think there are any cases of such, please, feel free to cite specifics. I can tell you for absolute certain that Arizona has no such cases, and indeed, there is no law period regarding who can and cannot go into a given restroom.

So the stupidity in this case belongs to you.

Pretending to be transgender is, essenitally, not something that an actual predator would do -- indeed, predators are more likely to be homophobic and gender hypernormative than even the most extremely femme or macho tranwoman or transman.

So that fear is irrational, and it i predatory, and you are buying into that irrational fear, that phallic terror, since transmen don't get the same attack, and worst of all...

... you are using a sterotype of physical appearance that you hold and applying it to all people by saying "some of whom appear distinctly male".

wtf is "distinctly male"?  Adams apple? (oops, females can have them).  Two days of facial hair growth? There are bearded women. A composite of elements which result in a person you happen to decide i a man walking into the restroom?  ah...

So, really, its your fears that apply.

You can put your head down and keep insisting the T is a problem, but trust me -- we are also the solution.

Yet another argument to take away rights based on scare tactics about what could hypothetically happen in an extreme situation.

Here's a hint. Pretending to be a transgendered female isn't as easy as you believe it to be. In all likelihood, a male rapist pretending to be transgendered female is going to end up hurting himself, if he attempts to commit any physical violence while wearing a skirt, pantyhose / stockings, heels.

Seriously though, These religious fundi nuts know exactly what they're doing when they spread this kind of bullshit, they know full well that they are lieing through their teeth, great christians they are, huh?  These nuts know full well that we trans-people have been using the restroom that our gender presentation dictates for many years without incident, but that inconvenient fact doesn't sit well with their war against us.  Also, have you noticed how they conveniently leave transmen out of the floating pile of crap that they try to pass off as a "warning" to the groups they talk to?  It'd be really inconvenient to tell the people that if transfolk are banned from the bathroom of their gender presentation, there definitely WILL be men in the women's bathroom.  How are they going to explain that one to their followers?

this bill didn't pass. What a wonderful thing it would have been for 45 year old men to be able to go into the bathroom with 13 year old girls by claiming they were "gender confused." Society has deprived these disgusting old creeps of a legitimized opportunity to exercise their right to prey on young females. We should all be ashamed of ourselves. After all, how wonderful it would be for a young adolescent girl to experience a middle-aged, cross dressed man lifting his skirt to urinate next to her and perhaps expose himself as well.

Rep. Butler should be tarred, feathered and run out of town for even suggesting such idiocy. To call this idea stupid would be insulting to stupidity throughout the entire universe.
