The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Advocacy groups turn up the heat on Clinton and Obama

by: Pam Spaulding

Thu Mar 15, 2007 at 17:00:00 PM EDT

HRC took the Clinton and Obama campaigns out to the woodshed for their lame-as-all-get-out initial responses to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Peter Pace's contention that gays are immoral. via Americablog:
HRC reportedly told both campaigns that they were not happy, and that the campaigns' various and ever-changing answers to the question were evasive and unacceptable, and that both needed to issue forceful and unequivocal statements saying that they don't think homosexuality is immoral.
The spectacle of watching both campaigns issue "clarifications" through spokespeople was a sorry sight indeed. HIllary was like a deer in the headlights on this one.

She finally gets it right here on her web site TODAY:

"I have heard from many of my friends in the gay community that my response yesterday to a question about homosexuality being immoral sounded evasive. My intention was to focus the conversation on the failed don't ask don't tell policy. I should have echoed my colleague Senator John Warner's statement forcefully stating that homosexuality is not immoral because that is what I believe."
The National Stonewall Dems were not happy with her prior statements either. See that release after the jump.

Both Senators have refused to answer the question which followed comments made by Marine General Peter Pace, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to the editorial board of the Chicago Tribune in which called American service personnel immoral:

"Most Democrats understand, and should understand, that morality isn't derived from sexual orientation or gender identity. Morality is how you treat your neighbor, support your community and sacrifice for your family and country. When I tuck my daughter into bed at night, those are the values I teach her. We expect Democratic candidates and elected officials to reaffirm those same values, to speak up when families or individuals are scapegoated or maligned for political gain, and to proactively argue the benefits of treating all Americans equally under the law without regard to their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Morality is also embodied in action. Our Democratic presidential candidates support employment non-discrimination legislation, the extension of health care benefits to our families, and oppose constitutional amendments that attack lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people for political gain. Those are moral actions and positions that each candidate should be proud to campaign on.
- Jo Wyrick, Executive Director, National Stonewall Democrats

Edwards managed to do it on the first try; Obama botched it, and well, I haven't heard peeps from any of the other candidates, have you? Actually, Chris Dodd has calls for an end to DADT and addresses Pace's comments ("they were completely out of bounds, completely wrong")-- again, he can't get out a comment about immorality and homosexuality.

What is it with these Dem campaigns?

Props to HRC
They done good on this one.

And good for Hillary particularly, and Obama also, for finally saying the right thing.

Pace's bigotry is all to our benefit, long term, because it makes it impossible any more for politicians to hide behind half statements.

All we need in this country is for some prominent politicians to stand up and say the opposite of whatever the hate-mongers of the GOP and the Religious Right are saying. People will listen (well, some of them), and we will win.

Meanwhile, keep the pressure on every Democrat to do right. Pace has generated enough outrage to give cover to even the timidest Democrat.

I think
HRC has finally figured out that they need to actually listen to (read blogs) the people that they are supposed to represent.  Maybe now they'll be an effective organization.

Finally!
Finally both of them did the right thing!

credibility
I share the perspective of the National Stonewall Democrats on this issue. Clinton, Obama, Edwards and others are running for the DEMOCRATIC nomination for President and they should know that our 2004 party platform says, "We will defend the dignity of all Americans against those who would undermine it."

General Pace's comments were clearly intended to undermine the dignity of me and my family. Which of these candidates is coming to the defense of my family?

Dragged Kicking and Screaming
Is it doing "the right thing" when you are coerced to do it?  And when Hillary left us to hang high and dry, saying our immorality is "for others to conclude," it was on Good Morning America, with millions watching, then that clip shown on CNN and other venues.  How many people actually saw and heard Hillary backtrack on it? Same with Obama.

Obama, Edwards and Hillary have this in common- they would boff us in the backseat of their vehicles in the dark.  But they don't like to be seen with us, walking down the street, in the daylight.

=>The truth usually isn't pretty. Don't blame me for telling it.<=

It is bad enough that General Pace, as an apparent spokesmodel
for the neo-con, christo-fascist Right, attempted to hijack the discussion over a policy that was not instituted on the basis of morality and make it focus on the Religious Right's spin. It irks me that news organizations are now running around asking everyone in sight if they think we are "immoral". . .which is exactly what the Right wants. They WANT the discussion to be centered on their "religious" beliefs rather than the policy.

Kudos to
Markos Moulitsas, who I don't believe gets enough credit from the gay community for his unequivocal support of gay rights.

Kos was one of the few who in the middle of the 2006 campaign stood up to Harold Ford, knowing full well that the Senate could be at stake. Te amo, Markos.

Not to mention...
Markos is quite cute and charming in person.

You gotta be kidding
I'm sorry, but KO$ is the bloggie equivalent of a paid talking head on TV.  He's got all the ethics of the average vulture.  KO$ will say or do any-damn-thing, pander to any-damn-one, to elect dems.  That's what he gets paid for, and he truly doesn't give a shit what his master may or may not stand for, because KO$ stands for absolutely nothing.

OK
Of course I would rather have the candidates get it right the first time.  So they have to be pressed to get it right.  But geez, I'd rather have them get it right than not at all.

Here is Richardson's comment, the first time out.

SANTA FE,  NM- New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson today called on Congress to repeal the US Military's policy of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" regarding homosexuality.  The Governor also repeated his reaction to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Peter Pace's remarks that homosexuality is "immoral".  The Governor issued this statement:

"I do not believe that homosexuality is immoral, and I believe Congress should repeal `Don't Ask, Don't Tell.' I voted against it when I served in Congress.  People should not be judged based on their sexual orientation.  Throughout my entire career I have fought for equal rights and against discrimination of any kind.

While others talk about doing the right thing, on my watch in New  Mexico we've made significant progress.  I support civil unions or domestic partnerships, and as Governor I have passed hate crime legislation.  I also supported and signed legislation extending civil rights protections based on sexual orientation, and I ordered that access to health insurance and benefits be extended to the domestic partners of state employees.

The remarks by General Pace are unfortunate and the Administration should reject them."
