The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Largo fires Stanton

by: Pam Spaulding

Sat Mar 24, 2007 at 08:00:00 AM EDT

[UPDATE: A joint statement by National Center for Lesbian Rights, the National Center for Transgender Equality, the Human Rights Campaign, the American Civil Liberties Union, Lambda Legal, Equality Florida, and the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force is after the jump.]
"I'm asking you to realize I'm still the same person today that I was four weeks ago. I'm asking you to judge me on my qualifications and performance and the fact that this organization is the best run organization in Pinellas County."
-- Steve Stanton, who lost a battle to keep his job after announcing his decision to begin transition to become a woman. The commission vote was 5-2.
The Largo City Commission didn't do the right thing. (St. Pete Times):
The vote was identical to one taken Feb. 27 and came after a six-hour meeting including four hours of public testimony, most of it urging the commission to save Stanton's job.

"I was optimistic, but realistic that it was going to be very difficult to slow down the train," Stanton, 48, said after the vote. He said he has made no decision about whether he'll take additional legal action.

The commissioners clearly had no grasp that discrimination they exhibited in this decision is based on a level of ignorance that is breathtaking.
But in the end, commissioners said that they lost their trust in him and that he didn't meet the leadership standards he set for employees.

"I will tell you it is not about transgenderism," said Commissioner Gay Gentry. "It is about making sure that the 1,000 people who work in the city, work in such a way that they can give superior services for the 75,000 people who live in this city. I tried to vote the right way for the right reasons."

Commissioner Andy Guyette said honesty, integrity and trust were the foundations of their relationship with him and that "without trust, there is no longer a foundation to any relationship."

...Mayor Bob Jackson, said Stanton created a culture of fear. "You need to listen to what the residents are telling you in Largo and they're telling you it's time for a change in city management," Jackson said.

What? Who is creating a culture of fear -- Stanton is the one being pilloried, losing his job, and having his life turned upside down by the ignorance of others. How is this about trust? Stanton will be the same person as Susan as he currently is as Steve -- the capabilities, the professional demeanor, none of that changes.

The only change seems to be in the definition in the minds of these people who opposed Stanton's continued employment is that if only they had known about Stanton's personal medical decision before hiring him, they wouldn't have offered him the job. This is sad, but in the end quite revealing about the level of bigotry and ignorance about gender identity -- and why ENDA is needed.

The hearing was packed and event-filled -- including a bomb scare -- with 90 minutes of testimony from Stanton's team, and over 100 members of the public who came to speak, most in support of Stanton. There were 300 supporters in attendance wearing "Don't Discriminate" shirts given out by Equality Florida.

Among those supporting Stanton's case were Susan Kimberly, former deputy mayor of St. Paul, Minn., who started living as a woman in 1983; and Margaret Stumpp, chief investment officer for Quantitative Investment Management Associates, who transitioned from man to woman five years ago while keeping her job overseeing $60-billion in investments.

Stanton's case also included comments by Dr. Walter Bockting, associate professor at University of Minnesota Medical School and a specialist in transexualism. He said gender identity disorder isn't something people can change.

Pam Spaulding :: Largo fires Stanton
Today, the National Center for Lesbian Rights, the National Center for Transgender Equality, the Human Rights Campaign, the American Civil Liberties Union, Lambda Legal, Equality Florida, and the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force denounced the discriminatory action of the Largo, Florida City Commission for violating its own nondiscrimination policy as well as state and federal law by firing long time City Manager Steve Stanton after learning that Stanton is transgender. Stanton is one of the most successful and accomplished City Managers in the country and has loyally served the City of Largo for nearly two decades. The Commission's decision to terminate is a stunning demonstration of bias and intolerance. By choosing discrimination over inclusiveness, the City Commissioners failed Stanton and failed their city. Stanton, who is represented by the National Center for Lesbian Rights, will announce next week whether he intends to pursue litigation.

Daryl Herrschaft, director of the Workplace Project at the Human Rights Campaign, testified at the final hearing in Largo on Friday night in support of City Manager Stanton. View his testimony here.

National Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual And Transgender Rights Organizations Condemn Ousting Of Largo City Manager
Here's the press release:  http://nclrights.org...

It's a sad day for American freedom.

Dr. Jillian T. Weiss

Sickening
How does his personal and perhaps even painful decision affect his work in any way?  I saw news clips of people with rageful faces attacking him in clips.  What business is it of theirs?  Has he harmed the city?  The citizens?  The Board members?  It's unbelievable on the face of it, but another sign of how six years of White House intolerance, thinly disguised or not, of all kinds of people, have infected the country at large and made people bolder in expressing their hatred and prejudice.

"In order to maintain an untenable position, you have to be actively ignorant."  The Colbert Report

The Real, Unspoken Issue
Of course, it's about which restroom Stanton would use.  We've come a long way, baby, to get where we got to today.

=>The truth usually isn't pretty. Don't blame me for telling it.<=

Wow, Largo has set quite a new standard for its employees.
Since Largo employees are expected to be forthcoming so as to protect trust, all current and prospective employees have to:

1. Admit to coloring their hair.  If they're coloring their hair and doing so on the down low, then they're deceiving the people of Largo about their age and blondness.

2. Admit to their adultery.  Adultery speaks to character.  If a person betrays a sacred vow made before God, they seem more likely to break an agreement made with the city and Largo citizens have a right to know.  Of course, adulterers must then be stoned, as the Bible decrees, unless the people of Largo believe that they know more than God, that they can decide when to obey God and when to disobey God.

3. Admit to their fornication.  If they ever had sex outside of the holy, holy, holy, super-sacred bounds of precious matrimony, the people of Largo have a right to know that said employees are profligate fornicators.  Abominations in the eyes of their all-loving God.  Since fornication is a sin that the Bible, and therefore God, compares to adultery, they should be stoned.

4. Admit to their coveting.  Oh, yeah, if they ever coveted a Lexus or a stainless steel refrigerator, they broke one of God's Big Ten.  Termination is the only appropriate sentence...and perhaps a quick stoning with pebbles.

5. Admit to their masturbation.  If they ever spurted poor, innocent sperm into a tissue (The horror, the horror!), the people of Largo need to know that they're sperm killers.  Each sperm is a half life.  Add up the sperm they've squirted, divide by 2, and that's how many times they should be tried for murder.

6. Admit to their boob hoisting and padding.  If they wear bras that make their boobs seem perkier and larger than they are, they need to fess up.  Then they need to burn their bras, so that present themselves as they are.

7. Admit to their lotion applying.  If they apply lotion that makes their skin seem more youthful and supple than it really is, the people have a right to know.

8. Admit to taking Viagra.  If employees are falsely virile, citizens have a right to know.

9. Admit to taking Rogaine.  If employess are falsely hirsute, citizens have a right to know.

10. Admit to their wealth.  The Bible is quite clear about wealthy people being Hell-bound.  If a city employee isn't good enough for God, they're certainly not good enough for Largo.  They will be fired.

11. And so on.

In turn, the commissioners of Largo need to accept that whereas they will be the darlings of those who hate in the name of sweet Jesus and His all-loving Father, in everyone else's eyes, they will be simply be those who hate.

* Susan Stanton, I'm so sorry that Largo's city commissioners and those who hate in the name of sweet Jesus did what they did to you.  I suspect that those who hate you believe they just purchased a ticket to Heaven with their hatred.

please send this to the powers that be
in Largo!

These people need a huge blast of reality.

Fibbing
Stsnton msy well be an asshole, as too many managers are, but it is shockingly disengenuous for the council to pretend that they are getting rid of him for poor performance when it is so obvious from the timing that it is all about something else.

BTW, the quote from Mayor Bob Jackson is from him, but he is the FORMER mayor.  The current mayor has been one of the two members who supported Stanton.  Interesting she is the one who actually works with Statton and sees him in action.

I hope he sues because this issue needs to advance.  But I would understand if he didn't.  I would think the changes in his future will be challenging enough for he, his wife, and their son that the added layer of continued publicity would not be necessary.  On the other hand, it could be empowering and standing up sets a good example for the kid.

They will take your job...
...they will take your kids.

Yes, the "friends of Jesus" are a particularly mean mob.

Back in the day, I am quite sure they would have "loved" even Jesus to death.

Of course,
Nazi soldiers invaded east, west, north, and south with "Gott Mit Uns" (God is with us.) belt buckles.

And you're right, Sharon, the "good" "christians" of Largo would be among the first to nail the Christ to a cross if he were to return.  Imagine if the Christ in his old time guise of a scruffy wanderer took the podium at the Largo hearing and urged love and acceptance.  They'd have hated Him, His stinkin' body, and His stinkin' love.

Just sickening.  So much for christian compassion and the peace that passes all understanding.

I'm Ashamed Of My Community
I really am.  I'm ashamed to call the Largo city commission neighbors.

The ignorance, the bigotry, the stupidity, and the heartlessness are just mind-boggling.

For shame, Largo.

Litbrit,
I know how you feel.

When Wisconsinites voted for heterosupremacy, I walked around and wondered, "Are you a bigot?  You?  Maybe you?"

Stanton needed to go
Largo was right to fire Stanton.  The people of Largo received twelve years of fine city management thanks to Steve Stanton's penis.  Largons (Largites? Largotians? Largoons?) need to trust that the genitalia they put in office will remain in office.  If the Largons wanted their city run by a vagina, they would have voted for a vagina.

We cannot overestimate the value of a dangling tallywhacker when it comes to good municipal governance.

"If people let government decide which foods they eat and medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny." -- Thomas Jefferson

I have to agree with you, Russ.
And I propose a new slogan for Largo which is apropos, given the commissioners' values:

"In pricks, we trust."

A question to Ms. Gentry
If it's not about transgenderism, why did you fire him at the time you fired him?

If it's because of "disruption,"

(a) What exactly are your standards relative to "disruption"?
(b) Who is doing the disrupting?  Stanton?

Largo fires -- in liberal San Francisco
we're apparently having an epidemic of murdering transgendered folks. I've posted a photo essay to record a memorial for Ruby Ordenana whose broken body turned up last week.

Sorry if blog whoring this is misplaced here -- but really, the story I had was far more in the pictures than the words.

Can it happen here?

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot...
...On the presumption that Stanton was a competent city manager for who-knows-how-many years, the next town manager will have to be brought up to speed about the issues regarding town governance.  One wonders just how long that will take.

At some point, this becomes silly.  Firing someone who had previously been determined to be competent for something unrelated to the job is dumb.  That doesn't mean that it doesn't happen, of course.  Just consider the case of Lynn Conway, co-author along with Carver Meade of the seminal text on VLSI design.  She had been fired from IBM in the 1970s because of her MtF transition.

Stanton hired . .
Well seems Largo has promoted Stanton to the position of most hated, most feared preoperative transgendered women in the Largo.  Now she is a poster girl for the right wing cause . .which I am slowly coming to believe is keeping moral order in the world at large. More Republicanization.  I had to a laugh as I read some of the comments regarding their reasoning.  Frankly, it's BULLSHIT, YES, BULLSHIT. Honesty, integrity, and trust. What? Excuse me? What? A culture of fear? Who is afraid? Afraid of what? This is strangely reminiscent of the WMD search. Anyone remember that?  That campaign has resulted in the senseless deaths of thousands of people.  Susan Stanton's campaign to live her life has killed how many people? How many?  Yep, that would be correct, as far as I know . . None, Zero, Zip, Zilch, Nada, None.  Ok people, I almost forgot  . .this is Florida.

what if?
I wasn't able to catch the feed of the hearing, but I'm curious about one thing: Did anyone put the following question to any of the religionists?

The question: If the council had voted 5-2 to fire its city manager days after the manager announced becoming a so-called 'born again Christian', would you believe that the firing was 'performance based' and then quietly accept the 'terminate for any reason' language of the manager's contract without protest?

With some people, the ability to stomach a lie only runs in one direction.

Kat
