Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Glenn Beck has fewer national ads than my local news. Really.

by: Snooky Ookums

Thu Sep 03, 2009 at 19:48:24 PM EDT

The industry standard (I used to produce television commercials in a previous life) is 22 minutes of revenue (commercials) per 60 minute block of air time.  TIVO any major 60 minute broadcast and check it out.

The "air time" of "The Young and the Restless" as measured by the online version on CBS.com is 38-39 minutes of "show" punctuated by 21-22 minutes of selling soap.

So tonight I watched the entire hour of Glenn Beck and wrote down what I saw.

Completely ignoring the fact that the entire broadcast had NO guests except Michele Malkin (who is on the Fox payroll and doesn't count) and was nothing but GB bouncing between his desk and his chalkboard while calling Van Jones a communist, black separatist and a threat to America's nuclear codes in the White House (really, he said that), I decided to just count the minutes.

Keep in mind that Van Jones was one of the founders of the group which has been writing to all of Becks' sponsors and so far have gotten 44 companies pull their spots from his show.  So Glenn has a bit of a personal issue with Mr. Jones.

So:

5:00PM - 5:18 (18 uninterrupted minutes of GB at the desk)

:30 Rosland Capital (Gordon Liddy's Gold company)
:30 Roche Pharma "AccuChek" Diabetes meter
:30 OxiClean
(local ads - which generate $0 to Fox)

5:23 Michele Malkin agrees with GB for 3 minutes then back to GB all alone at his desk.

5:30 Commercial Break

:30 Weekly Standard (owned by Rupert Murdoch)
:30 Jos. A. Bank Clothiers
:30 gotomeetingDOTcom (whoever they are)

5:32 Back to GB bouncing back and forth again - more on just how evil Mr. Johnson is. For another 9 minutes

5:41 Commercial Break

:15 Wall Street Journal subscriptions (another owned by Rupert Murdoch)
:30 Seoul South Korea tourism
:30 Video Professor Ebay disc
:15 realamericanstoriesDOTcom (whoever they are)

5:43 - 5:49 More about how Mr. Johnson kills puppies and eats children (I might have missed some of this section) and then

5:49 Commercial break

:30 carboniteDOTcom

Local ads (again with no revenue to Fox)

5:51 - 5:57 GB alone again

5:58 end

Bump ads

:30 Lear Gold
:30 gotomeetingDOTcom

TOTAL NATIONAL AD TIME 4:30 (or 2:15 per 30 minute air block - ads for Murdoch's own companies don't count)

This is nearly 90% lower than the industry "standard" for a comparable broadcast hour.

Rupert is going to have some sort of seizure when he sees those numbers.

FYI, gotomeeting.com advertises a lot on Air America too.

Thanks for your insight!
I have a friend who is a media buyer and she just told me something along these same lines.

I wasn't paying too much attention (I guess I should have) and she was saying that the advertising agency produces lists that rate the programs by ratings, cost to buy time and other factors and that Glenn Beck isn't even on the lists anymore. (The lists have a name that I can't remember.)

I believe she said that Glenn Beck has disappeared from the lists because Fox News hasn't dropped the price low enough to reflect the value. Do I have that right?

She also said they'll cancel this show before they suffer the humiliation of dropping the price low enough for media buyers to consider buying time. I guess this is why getting major sponsors to pull out works.

I'm thinking that Sarah Palin
would replace in a Wasilla minute... but only if FauxNews let her film her show from Alaska.

Oh yeah- THAT'S gonna happen.

He Is Crazy!!!
He is getting crazier--he found all kinds of secret communist messages in the Rockefeller architecture.  He thinks that this 1930s artwork is indoctrinating us into communism today (so there is a secret 80 year plan).  One bas-relief was obviously Icarus, but he was talking about all kinds of weird symbolism.  Sad thing is that my dad is buying these conspiracy theories.

Coit Tower in S.F. would drive him over the edge
There is quite a bit of communist imagery in WPA public art. There was a major labor movement going on at the time.

The book that the man is taking off the library shelf in this mural is Das Kapital by Karl Marx. The newspapers are union and communist newspapers -- one is even in Russian.

Let's send these photos to him just for fun.

Just counted the same numbers and advertisers for Keith Olberman

15 minutes of national ads

List of advertisers

Bahama's Tourism
AT&T
BP
FORD
Bosley Hair Replacement
Wells Fargo Bank
Johnson and Johnson
Walgreens
Williams 'Lectric Shave
Icy Hot Patch
Bounty Paper Towels
Capital One
Sprint
Aricept (prescription)
La Z Boy
Vonage
Nissan Motors
Lenscrafters
State Street Bank
Intel
Nextel
Bounce fabric softener
AmbienCR (prescription)
Bank of America

Personally I would love to own any mutual fund investing in those companies.

400% more ad time and the majority are Fortune 100 companies.

(Oh, yeah...hello again Rupert!  Care for a handful of Valium?)

I'm hoping.....
that Glenn Beck's extra-bizarre behavior this past week or so is proof of his collapse.....preferably in more ways than one! LOL

Yeah they pulled their Ads but they didn't pull their money
So I guess I am not getting the downside for Fox News. He gets crazier and gets more ratings and they can charge more for all the rest of their shows. I know that isn't sustainable but it just seems like there is someone (probably Murdoch or one of his cronies) that is pushing Beck to go even bigger. Maybe we will get lucky and the whole cable network will crash and burn, but I don't think so.

Always thinking about it...

No no no...here's how it works...
Ad time is like hotel rooms.

And empty hotel room night is revenue which can never be recouped.

There is only so much available time in a day for advertising to run.  Advertisers buy what are called "impressions"  (an impression is a measure of total viewers X total times the spot runs)

Fox only has so many impressions to sell.  Period.

It would be one thing if the lost time was at 3 AM, but this is drive time, happy hour, tv over the bar, tv at the airport gate - this may not be as big as the 8PM hour, but it is important.

And it is gone. Poof.

Figure that this represents somewhere around 7-8% of Fox's available "impressions" and you begin to see what this means to the bottom line.

Yes, the advertisers are still on Fox...but they are paying for what they are getting - 8% less across the board.

Please...
Please make him go away.

In away I don't want him to go away,
He can pull all of Faux News down with him.  He is a crack pot.  Beck, Hannity and Bill O are proving how screwed up the right wing truly are.  They all have become rabid attack dogs over the edge of lunacy.  Sure they will always have listeners, but most thinking people are seeing them for the scum they are.

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

Glenn Beck = "Brady Bunch" Cousin Oliver?
You know... the incredibly lame character desperately thrown in during the final season to try to boost falling ratings, which instead caused the show to tank?

One can but hope.

Little Earl
Or that stupid little annoying white boy "Little Earl" from the 3rd & final season of What's Happening!!.

But if you ask me, Mabel King being gone already had sealed the fate of the show! LOL

Variance in standard air time

I buy a bunch of hour-long series on iTunes, and those shows (with commercials omitted prior to purchase) all run 42-47 minutes with ads omitted. This suggests that the 22-minute revenue-ad measure does not apply consistently.

Bravo's shows such as Top Chef tend to run 44 minutes. Much of the remaining 16 minutes consists of relentless Bravo ads for other network shows, mostly the obnoxious Housewives.

Battlestar Galactica's episodes on SyFy tended to run 43:30 in the final season. The remaining 16:30 included numerous ads for other network movies and shows such as Stargate.

Mad Men on AMC runs 47:30 without commercials.

Project Runway on Lifetime runs 42:40 with the remaining 17:20 occupied in part by ads for Lifetime's scary roster of shows.

So I suspect that industry standards vary -- partly due to recession, and partly due to different standards on the different networks as well as the popularity of each show.

Understand that "The Young and the Feckless" is the top rated soap on TV
When I said standard I meant "gold" standard.  That is the top of the list.

44 show/16 ad is about the mean.

55:30 / 4:30 is abysmal.

My only big concern is just how much Rupert is willing to lose to avoid showing weakness.  He can certainly well afford to lose the revenue from the 5 o'clock hour, pretty much indefinitely.

Nuking GB now would be an admission that he can be forced to bow to pressure.

For a meglomaniac that is unthinkable.

Thanks, sent right off to Countdown.

Crazy is as crazy does
Oh no, the plan has backfired!  Now Beck has even more uninterrupted air time than ever before.  More crazy is being injected into the world than previously thought possible.

Let's hope someone puts this show out of its misery quickly before something terrible happens.

Doesn't it just seem like a matter of time before one of his viewers takes one of his suggestions seriously?

Query .....
not to belabor the point of having worked in radio broadcasting, but I'd be curious to know if advertisers have dropped from his radio show as well and also local advertisers that carry Beck through syndication.

I don't get Beck's radio program where I am in CT.

If I was still working for CBS and if WTIC-AM, one of the four Hartford stations I did national paid/barter advertising continuity for, and carried Beck (which they don't), I would be able to tell as one of the networks I did the barter ad continutiy for was Premiere which syndicates Beck.

Anyone get Beck on their local stations ?

If so do a favor, just listen to two full hours and write down who the advertisers are (ads will run either 30 or 60 seconds in length). I'll be able to tell by the paid spot total (minutes) if advertisers have dropped out. Perhaps not which ones, but how many minutes of paid ads are in an hour.

And this is important for anyone who does this little exercise, included any PSAs (spots which you will easily be able to tell are not paid ads).

Break minutes are "cast-in-stone" and don't change in a syndicated program, so the time has to be filled with ads, PSAs or "bumper promos" and the bottom of the hour break will sometimes have a short news/wx brief per the decision of the local station not the Network.

Feel free to shoot off an email to artlynentertainment@yahoo.com.

Thanks Brothers and Sisters,

Lyndon

Sorry Lyndon, I already did my time...
That one solid hour was painful - someone else gets to chart the radio crap.  But his radio show is on only Fox radio stations, so there will be some crossover - media buys are in blocks.

My company buys more than most (annoying poultry shilling for insurance) and can be found both here on Pam's and on TownHall...

Link to stations which pick up Beck's radio programs ...
Here http://www.glennbeck.com/conte... is a map of the US which has the some 400 radio stations which carry Glenn Beck's radio program.

Just to clear up any confusion, Beck is syndicated by Premiere Radio Network (always has been) not FOX Radio, so stations don't need to be a FOX Radio affiliate to carry the Glenn Beck radio program.

Snooky is correct about Net ads being bought in blocks, or ROS Blocks as it's called, however they can request their ads not run on particular programs.

Advertisers also do pay a premium for buying the Glenn Beck show outside of the ROS Block runs.

Van Johnson? Really?
What does Glenn Beck have against closeted movie stars from the 1940s and 1950s?  Is he going to start attacking Tab Hunter and Rock Hudson next?

Actually that Van Johnson was a long time family friend of ours...
He was a heck of a nice guy (always wore red socks) who was adored by little old blue haired ladies who attended his matinees.

We would be interrupted several times every time we went out to dinner by flirty grannies - and he was always gracious and kind to every one of 'em.

He is missed.

Maybe there's some bargain time to be bought
For one of our marriage equality groups?

Seriously, Beck's a loss leader. As long as his ratings are strong (and alas they are) he'll be a good lead in for the next show, which is still selling ads. Perhaps they've even been able to raise their rates, as there is less real estate on Faux News now.

I'd remind everyone Rupert has been funding his RW propaganda rag, the NY Post for years and years at a loss, just to get his talking points out.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the plug.

Video Professor has been investigated for shady billing practices
Not What Matters
Not selling a lot of ad time for Glenn Beck's show would only matter to Rupert Murdoch if money had been the objective for his founding of Fox News.

Network
The whole thing with Beck's advertisers reminds me very much of the movie "Network."  When Howard Beale becomes the "prophet" for the corporation toward the end of the movie, his ratings fall through the floor.  When the head of the network is confronted with that news, he screams that he doesn't care how much money Beale's show is losing, and that it is to stay on the air right where it is.

Rupert Murdock and Glenn Beck are the real-life versions of the network manager and Howard Beale.

Glenn Beck
also has fewer brains than my local news, and that's going some.
Some have said that his ratings are still good, but I really think that at least half of those watching him are those who want their day's worth of chuckles.  He is such a moron that I don't even WANT to believe that anyone believes him.
His latest rant is socialist art on the buildings at Rockefeller Center, the same Rockefeller who (cover your childrens eyes) gave the land for the UNITED NATIONS!!!!
There's a Communist plot if I ever heard one.

Regardless of what you WANT
Unfortunately for me and for the welfare of humankind in general, my boss believes nearly every word Glenn Beck says. My guess is that so does most of upper management of the institution I work for.

Not only do many people believe Glenn Beck, but some of them are quite affluent and have positions of influence.

Sorry.
