The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Fox News executive producer comes out; hypocrisy of winger network exposed

by: Pam Spaulding

Tue May 22, 2007 at 10:30:00 AM EDT

AfterElton continues its series of articles by James Hillis about openly gay newsmen (see my earlier post). The interesting portion of part two, Gay Newsmen - A Clearer Picture, is the profile of Fox & Friends executive producer, David Brown, who comes out to the press for the first time in this piece.

Brown notes that at the right-wing propaganda outlet he was never in the closet to his bosses, including Roger Ailes.

Brown has worked closely with Fox News CEO and chairman Roger Ailes since two years before the Fox News Channel began, and has been with FNC since its inception. Brown said he's been out to Ailes throughout that entire time and that Ailes has no issue with it. As Brown describes their relationship: "Loved me. I love him."
The brand of internal conservativism at Fox doesn't match that of its target audience, as LGBT employees are treated well within the organization even as it feeds the Freeper beast. Brown, sadly, is an enabler, another gay man who takes a paycheck from people who promote bigotry, rationalizing that as long as he's personally treated well, then all must be OK in the world for the rest of the LGBT community. He slept well at night when he helped launch, of all programs, The O'Reilly Factor.
Many of Fox's most high-profile conservative opinion makers are similarly comfortable with Brown's sexual orientation. Brown was the lead producer when launching The O'Reilly Factor  and says that Bill O'Reilly was "absolutely" cool with Brown's sexual orientation. "Bill and I care very, very deeply for each other," Brown said. "I mean, he was a mentor to me. I've been to his home. I was part of building this wonderful, incredibly amazing huge thing [The O'Reilly Factor]."

As the head producer on The O'Reilly Factor, Brown was a part of the discussion on how topics such as gay adoption, Gay Days at Disney and gay circuit party culture were covered. "My point of view was heard and respected," Brown explained, "and whether or not Bill agreed with it - and it's not The Brown Factor, it's The O'Reilly Factor - but he had me at his side and in his ear." [Jeebus.]

As for family-values conservative Sean Hannity, Brown said, "Sean and I love each other." As to whether Hannity has an issue with Brown being gay, Brown said: "I'm Dave and he's Sean, and the show is good, or the show is bad. There is no gay issue." Brown insisted it's like that across the board at Fox, and said that at monthly NLGJA mixers at a local New York gay club, Fox News journalists are "always the largest contingent."

When asked whether Fox News management is comfortable with this kind of gay visibility from its employees, Brown responded: "I'd go even beyond that. What's wonderful here is that not only is management comfortable with it, they support it."

You have to read the rest of the piece.

What do you do with people like Brown? It's great they are out of the closet to their colleagues, but the almighty dollar in his wallet means more to him than the anti-gay propaganda he helps to produce. Do people in his shoes have any ability to see how they are not "working on the inside" to make things better for the average LGBT person out there in America who is getting gay-bashed, losing their job, their kids or any of the legal quandries we face that he doesn't have to deal with?

The loyal sheeple who are spoonfed their opinions via Fox News Channel surely don't think that gay is OK when they tune in to the content produced by Brown (and others like him). Brown just doesn't have a problem with it, since he and Sean are likethis. When Sean and O'Reilly come around to support ENDA, hate crimes legislation, the repeal of DADT and a host of other pending issues that really matter to the LGBT community, then we can talk.

If hypocrite Fox is gay-positive employer, then it should reflect that in its programming. Don't hold your breath for that. Get the word out to screw with the heads of its audience.

Justin Cole of Media Matters has supplied me with a boatload of Fox News homophobia. See it after the flip.

No wonder FOX comes off as shallow and produces a bunch of liars.  Look who produces the programs.  There is another sick queen on FOX who reported the Virginia Tech shootings.  Said this was a "Christian Nation" implying that the shooter wasn't.  Must be a cohort of Browns.

Make alot of noise. Life is short.

Authenticity doesn't rake in the cash
Fox News represents the cynicism of the current Republican Party.  They play to the masses of uneducation, delusional rubes that make up a large portion of the American population and laugh all the way to the bank.  The Onion and The Daily Show have a better grasp on reality than Fox News does.  Fox News could start a whole anti-gay movement complete with riots, and they would be there with camera crews and helicopters, gleefully covering the bloodshed 24-7, while this sick fuck would be spirited away to some safe place.

I would love to give this asshole a trip to Jamaica.  Let him see homophobia up close and personal.

And notice how he says "love" a lot?
He "loves" O'Reilly, he "loves" Hannity, he "loves" Ailes.  Did he take a tab of Ecstasy before the interview?

Selfish & Cynical
As long as Brown is comfortably employed, has high-powered connections and owns nice toys, he doesn't have a care in the world.  There is no way in the world Brown doesn't know that the Fox viewership is substantially different from its management, and causes enormous hardships for LBGTs.

Who I'd like to see come out next... that Fox anchor guy- I forget his name- the one with the eye makeup... somebody help me out here...

=>The truth usually isn't pretty. Don't blame me for telling it.<=

wow, just, wow

This bit of news hits the problem square on the nose. Simply put there are some LGBTs to whom their own wealth and personal power among the power elite is their primary driving value. They are not able to see the personal as political.  They choose to indentify with power elite and not the LGBT groups that would fight for full equality. They don't feel an ethical imperative, they are set financially and enjoy being ensconced in the power sector.  What are we to do ?  You cannot teach a person to have a heart. What is really sad to me is that its these persons on the inside who are often a greater obsticle to our civil rights then even the fundies.  Al Pacino made a movie about Roy Cohen, i have never seen the whole thing,it is written by Tony Kirshner. There was a clip i saw, in which Cohen tells his doc. upon his HIV dx. the jist is : that he is not a homosexual, some gay man that cannot pass in bill,  he is powerful,he can dial the white house and talk to the first lady.  His distain for other gays is paletable..There is a complete disconnect.  Power , money is his drug of choice. So my friends, clearly we have as many within our "community" who undermine our progress, as we do outside of it.  I tend to see it as a sickness of the heart and soul..that does not disciminate.. Some LGBTs not feel unscathed by the hate that rums rampant in our culture.  They will never identify with the "underdog" This is not new, in fact its still as sad and frustrating as ever.

For some gay people
Other gay people exist only as a means to an end, i e sexual satisfaction or the alleviation of loneliness (for example, gay men pair off then have nothing to do with other gay people at all).  Community means nothing to these people.

Of course, some people happen to pair off and may not have close gay friends, or they move to a remote area and other gay couples are not available.  I am not saying gay couples HAVE to associate with other gay couples, but this shunning of other gays is telling of what kind of people they are.  The only thing that separates them from your garden variety neoconservative or Christofascist is the way their erect cocks point.

(This may be true for the Ls and Bs and Ts, but I can't speak to their experience)

Some are just set in their ways.....
My own roommate that I have known for over 19 years is still in the closet to his family and co-workers. Mind you he is pushing 40. He is still in that frame of mind that it is no one's business. I'm at the other end of the spectrum, everyone knows I'm gay and I have no problem with it. Of course, I don't try to hide it either. I've been trying the past year since we became roommates to crack open his door to the world. But he is stubborn and content in his own way.

[ Parent ]
For some older gay people
I think this may be the case.  They are used to a world where gays and lesbians stayed closeted and led their secret lives, and have grown used to that fact.  If someone wants to remain secretive their whole life, that is their show.  I have a problem when those same people look down on glbt folk working for their rights and calling us "flamboyant" or "pushing our gayness in everyone's faces."  And when they start pushing against us, against us trying for our rights, we need to start kicking in their fucking closet door and give them a good airing out.

[ Parent ]
We need Flamboyant
Those outside the box.  If it wasn't for drag queens who had had enough and didn't give a shit, we wouldn't have had the Stonewall Riots.
The proper suited yuppy pretending to work for our rights in non-profit orgs have turned into nothing else but a fund raising machine. Once you give them the money the want, they don't want to hear from you, especially if you are an "outrageous" activist.
We need more Pricilla of the Desert types with real passion, to blurt out and change what's wrong with a hypocritical gay society.

Make alot of noise. Life is short.

[ Parent ]
I am reminded...
...of a scene from the movie Flawless in which Philip Seymour Hoffman's character is meeting with the LCRs planning the gay pride parade.  The LCRs want to tone down the parade and not be so flamboyant.  Hoffman's character says something to the effect of "The difference between you guys and us is that you're ashamed of us but we're not ashamed of you."

That statement sums up so much of what we're hearing from our "conservative" (quotes intended) gay compatriots, and it's a shame.

[ Parent ]
i fully agree

What we must understand, is that too some folks there is no such thing as a "good" LGBT and there never will be. This is about Freedom. Freedom to fully express ourselves. And we owe a great debt to those who would not , did not , even if they could "pass". Our heritage in the LGBT community is soundly built on the outrageous flamer politicos among our ranks. Not only were they outrageous by the dif. of our times but they knew that as HUMANS they had the right to be who they are. And how many yrs were spent in our own historical movement history debating how their pressence would impact our stuggle to move forward and show the world..WE are good people. How many times were they forced to the back of the parade. (disclosure here, i still do not condone nambla and i never will, as a retired social worker, that is just not an LGBT issue for me, its more  along the lines of rights for pedifiles) I have even debated Pat Califia on this..His rationale is some 12 yrs olds may be more mature than some 40 yrs olds..sorry i don't buy that and told him so ..yrs ago.  OK that issue aside, i do fully support the notion that indeed the time is right again (still) for NO capitulation as far as being "good gays" go. Our life styles are diverse. WE are an extremely diverse group.  Some are wealthy , some our poor, some are political , some are not some ski, some fish..you get my gist. These are so called life style choices. Our sexual orientations are not life style choices.

..The Goal is complete Civil Equality for all of us, no matter what our "life styles" are. WE are sexual outlaws by virtue of not being heterosexuals, regardless of how we live or how we express ourselves..be it so its noticed or if we hide in closets and/or pass.  What the passers and collaborators need to know is their silence is a toxin to Freedom. And when the day comes when the hatred is fully empowered - their "goodness"(ie look how straight i act,how upright, even republican blech i am)  and their "passing" will not protect them.

(This may be true for the Ls and Bs and Ts, but I can't speak to their experience)...
I'm trans, and I know of one transwoman who is as retrofuck as they come - racist, misogynist (can you believe it?) and at least somewhat homophobic.

Social outrage is power protecting itself; it is not morality. -- Andrea Dworkin

Misogynistic T
Wow.  I can't imagine how this poor person makes it through the day.

[ Parent ]
Insulted
I am insulted on behalf of a gay male local Fox anchor I once knew. You non-compromising radicals bring more shame on GLBT folk than he does.

Get over it
There is a bit difference between compromise and collaboration.  How can you be insulted on behalf of someone else?  And how can we bring shame on GLBT people?  That we want the same rights as everyone else and disapprove of other glbt people who actively work against us?  We are being pretty damn nice about it.  They deserve far worse than the comments they'll get here.

[ Parent ]
Noticed this at NLGJA ...
I noticed this 'phenomenon' at an NLGJA convention years ago. I would say that it follows a well-known pattern. The same is true of the GOP. They are literally filled with white gay men (and very few lesbians). There is something about the gay Repubican that gets a thrill from denigrating others. They are not self-hating - that is a myth. Look at closeted gay frat boys and you will see the same thing. They get a rush of electric excitement when in gangs and will shout "FAGGOT!" at someone walking on the sidewalk or "DIRTY NIGGER" at a Black person. It is a fundamental aspect of today's Republicanism (eg Rush Limbaugh's attacks on Obama for being a "magic Negro").

They will always ALWAYS just poo-poo any concern that they are tacitly supporting homophobia by using the same old cliches: "We don't agree with everything in the GOP Platform (aka FOXNews). Our sexual preference is just a small part of us". Meanwhile they herald a party and candidates that make 'family values' and spousal relationships (aka the byproducts of sexual orientation) THE paramount issue of credibility. Look at any GOP candidate website - they flamboyently display their lovers and 'out' their bedroom lifestyle choice.

FOXNews knows the power in this strategy. It is the same with the GOP who loved having Ken Mehlman as their leader. What is a better method to keep 'Teh Gay' down then to use their own kind to assist?

Re: "working on the inside"
"Working on the inside" is the other lie that many Log Cabin types use. But just look at their record. Read the interviews of those that worked proudly for Strom Thurmond and Jessie Helms and Bob Dornan and Pat Buchanan. They never once worked to diminish homophobia or "work on the inside", that is just a complete lie they get away with. Again, look at Rich Tafel and other Log Cabin leaders before him. When the Republican Party became even more openly hateful of gays, did they admit their 'work on the inside' had been an utter failure? No, they actually did the opposite and tried to insist that they needed more members and more money to go to Republicans to buy influence. It is a sick, sick psychology. The GOP can and should be supported, as soon as it fucking treats glbt people like full humans.

Re:Re: "working on the inside"
The question to ask in response to this line is, "What have you managed to change about the Republican Party by 'working on the inside?'"  And no, doing a three way with James Gannon and Ann Coulter doesn't count.

[ Parent ]
Re: Steve Dusey (FOXnews)
There is also the phenomenon of the gay court jester. Horrifically homophobic Republicans could love and cherish a Liberace while at the same time brutally and murderisticly demonize glbt people. They can also cheer Falwell and Coulter and lick up queeny Steve Dusey on Fox and Friends scream about Obama being a nasty Muslim. They can do all this because it feeds and justifies their congnitive dissonance. It soothes the guilt they feel for both hating and participating in sins. Look at what is happening to Dr. Laura's son Deryk. It's the exact same psychological sickness.

Republicans are OK about Gay People
Just in the way you describe.  They don't want us to have our own opinions that differ from theirs.  They want us to conform to the Nathan Lane/"Boys in the Band" stereotype--they would love us to go back in the closets, all take up jobs as florists, hairdressers, and in entertainment, and forget all about this "equal employment/equal marriage rights" nonsense.  In other words, they want Bruce and Lance to know their place.

Does the term 'Uncle Tom' ring any bells?  Or perhaps Judas Iscariot?

David Brown needs to seek out a competent therapist and deal with his internalized homophobia issues.

regarding changing things from the Inside

Clearly this model has not worked. Once inside the power elite circles a human has their butt safely protected. This is human nature across the board. Be it "jewish nazis" or people of any ethnicity that can pass. It is part of a fascist dynamic. There must be a group to hate and there are always collaborators with the "enemy" If people could see how the struggles for all Human Rights are indeed connected, we could move mountains. This escapes many. Our silence does equal death. WE hear are not the silent, but what can we do, when our own disown us.  When i was younger and more naive i bought into the changing things from the inside. Ever hopeful, however history has shown us this model for change is not terribly effective. And we cannot raise people's consciousness if they are just too comfortable, or too afraid. Its pitiful.

Something larger then our own community may change things drastically, ie a global disaster. Right now immigrants are being rounded up...who will be next ? Things right now are starkly reminescent of Germany circa 30's and 40's. Oppressed groups cannot clearly identify their common enemy..and all over the country our LGBT groups are fighting for their lives.  WE are still stuck with candidates on the democratic side, that are War Mongers and owned by the Corporate elite. If we are employed and making a decent wage, we may not feel as keenly the need for Unions.  Hopefully a renewal of conscienceness will occur and the oppressed with strengthen our coalitions. ..in the meantime, this progressive, "will never feel quilty and never give in", until all the disenfranchised are protected.

Can't Be Trusted
Gay republicans can't be trusted for a number of reasons - one, being they go around saying the book "The Pink Swastika" is about liberal gays, when in fact anyone who reads the book will easily recognize the gay nazi's working for Hitler is equal to what gay republicans/gay "Uncle Toms" are nowadays.  I'm not saying un-befriend any gay republican friend(s) you have, but as for the group as a whole, they can't be trusted and shouldn't be given an inch.

"...has no issue with it"
"...are similarly comfortable"
"...was 'absolutely' cool"
"...is comfortable with this kind of gay visibility"
"...they support it"

"I've been to his home."
"There is no gay issue."

These aren't all direct quotes from Brown, but it seems to me that both he and the writer of the article have reflexively adopted a rather pathetic and defensive--puling, really--attitude.  Aren't we beyond the point where we have to go out of our way to praise and thank people who clearly don't give two sh*ts about us as human beings--just because they're not openly hostile like Fred Phelps?

...

Thank you, thank you kind sir Mr. Ailes!  For being okay with... you know... "it".

"Our Liberties We Prize and Our Rights We Will Maintain" -- Iowa state motto

Out the Hypocrisy
I am totally not surprised that Fox News is totally fine with its GLBT employees - after all, it is based in NYC, for all its Red-State image. People in urban areas are nearly always more comfortable with the GLBT community, especially people who have had a lot of education, and the networks, including the GOP Propaganda Network, are filled with highly educated people.

But I also think cities like NYC (or DC, where I live) insulate people to a large extent, and that can be a very bad thing. I have a less negative attitude about Brown, and those openly gay Repubs on the Hill, although I think they are deluding themselves nonetheless. IMHO, and this goes for the O'Reilly's and Santorum's of the world, these people simply don't connect the cause-and-effect. They can use anti-gay attitudes and bigotry to gain ratings or political power or campaign dollars, and convince themselves that no one really believes that "pro-family" crap, and laugh at the fundies behind their back, because their lives don't change - and in reality won't even if some fundies get into power. Those who have the protection of power and money and race, even when GLBT, don't necessarily recognize the benefits of their positions - whether through a lack of imagination or empathy, I can't say.

But I think this situation, both at Fox and in Congress, is a weapon the Dems should be using. I think they are afraid to use it, because it might signal their own gay acceptance and scare the voters, but IMHO they are missing a huge opportunity. What this country values is someone who leads, who demands respect for his positions, even if the voters don't necessarily agree with every position the candidate has. How many people were initially favorable of W because he appeared to be a decisive leader?

So the Dems should, in response to any question of support for GLBT rights, point out how often you find openly gay people working alongside the most conservative people, including the GOP candidate for President. That shows the GOP knows fully well gays and lesbians are not the dangerous monsters portrayed in the media, and means that they are using anti-gay language and positions for purely political ends. What does that say about their moral character?

We will only prevail in this ridiculous culture war if we point out the hypocrisy of the conservative myths of "moral society" or "moral behavior." When people like Newt Gingrich, a serial adulterer, have the gall to talk about morality, the time is ripe for a snide counter-attack.
