The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Dallas could be the largest U.S. city to elect an out gay mayor

by: Pam Spaulding

Tue Jun 05, 2007 at 06:30:00 AM EDT

Wouldn't this be something! Dallas City Council member Ed Oakley might win that honor if he wins upcoming runoff election. Dallas has a population of 1.2 million and has an LGBT community estimated at 120K.
Ed Oakley's candidacy is the latest indication that Dallas' reputation as a conservative stronghold is giving way to more diversity. The city is already home to several gay elected officials, including the sheriff.

"Dallas is less and less the Dallas that people think it is," said Cal Jillson, a political science professor at Southern Methodist University. "And Dallas is less and less the Dallas that it used to be."

In the mayoral race, Oakley and former construction company CEO Tom Leppert emerged from a crowded 11-candidate field that included another openly gay man and a transgendered woman. Oakley and Leppert will be the only candidates in the June 16 runoff.

...The city has nondiscrimination policies covering sexual orientation and gender identity and offers health insurance to the domestic partners of city employees, measures praised as progressive by local gay-rights activists. "I think some people don't realize that Dallas is very diverse: economically, ethnically, culturally," said Pete Webb, president of the Dallas Gay and Lesbian Alliance.

That has helped mute any controversy about Oakley's sexuality in a state where two years ago voters approved a ban on gay marriage by a 3-to-1 margin.

This set off the Freepi, and a few seemed to fixate on Troy Aikman's sexuality for some reason...
Pam Spaulding :: Dallas could be the largest U.S. city to elect an out gay mayor

Actual Freeper Quotes

BS - Dallas is not conservative. It?s a city that speaks Ebonics and has open boarder rallies. It?s everything outside of Austin and Dallas that?s conservative.

For a minute I thought it was going to be Troy Aikman.

...most of the conservatives moved to the outlying communities. The same, unfortunately, could be said of most major cities today...

"Ed Oakley's candidacy is the latest indication that Dallas' reputation as a conservative stronghold is giving way to more diversity."

More like giving way to madness. The rodents swept Dallas County last November, and if that holds, the county will have officially jumped the shark. This fella looks like Paul Lynde's cousin.

I wonder what the gay sheriff looks like? Can he lead his officers? And in what direction? I wouldn?t like to be in the locker room with him, if I were a police officer.

Wasn?t the line from Full Metal Jacket by the DI R. Lee Ermey? ?Only steers and queers come from Texas, son - and I don?t see any horns on your head?.

What do you expect? It?s Texas. Let's hope they slide off that into The Gulf of Mexico

Not surprising. A lot of urban areas are being given up to degenerates and scum. People that practice a bizarre sexual fetishes are nothing new to urban ghettos.

One of the guys on another political board who always help me fight off the liberals is openly gay. He?s very libertarian on social issues, and very conservative on issues of taxation, regulation, and environment. Shrug I?d rather have a gay business owner elected mayor than any sort of socialist.

What an blatantly biased statement. The AP makes it sound as if diversity is dependent on openness to homosexuality. Give me a break.

?Dallas hasn?t been conservative for quite a few years: most of the conservatives moved to the outlying communities.?

Yep. Or Highland/University Park. Or Ft. Worth. DISD is one of the biggest liberal cesspools in the country.

The sheriff is a she. Lupe Valdez.

11-candidate field that included another openly gay man and a transgendered woman

Dosn?t that show that gays are in the political arena in disproportionate numbers ? Are are a 1/4 of the voters in Dallas gay?

You shut your mouth when your talking about Aikman!

I think Aikman's wife (who is female) would take offense to that remark.

what exactly is a "gender identity nondiscrimination policy"? Does that mean in Dallas if I have a Y chromosome and certain *ahem* body parts but say I'm a woman, then to the city I'm a woman (and vice-versa)?

It's amazing to me that the "gays" have to publicize their sex lives. You don't hear normal people going around or campaigning for office as "openly heterosexual". Their sexuality simply isn't an issue at all.

Well, the diversity line is PC bull$hit. Real diversity to any of our major cities would be Republican Mayors. As far as I know about Dallas, it has only had 1 GOP Mayor in a century, and that was former Congressman Steve Bartlett who served a single term from 1991-95. Electing another rodent is merely business as usual, whether they pack fudge, eat clams, or whatever else.

My 30 year old son and I where in Sundance Square in Fort Worth yesterday checking out lofts for him - needs to be closer to work - this kid is as straight as an arrow but also very handsome - the gay guys where openly eyeing him with me walking right next to him !!!! Downtown Fort Worth !!!!! We where both so disgusted we started looking elsewhere for a new place for him. Couldn?t believe it!

Only about 13 percent of registered voters turned out in the initial election. With numbers like these the gay guy is going to win.

Dallas has been circling the drain for at least a decade. My in-laws finally made the move and bought a house closer to Waco. They can?t get out of Dallas fast enough.

Dallas Gays Rock
The LGBT activists in Dallas have been kicking ass for years. They have invested a lot in a coordinated strategy to develop and train new leadership, make political and cultural advances and to really build a stronger community. Contrast this approach to the one taken in my hometown of Houston where the LGBT community has not made a single political gain except fot electing lesbians to the city council and office of the comptroller.

Dallas is fair from perfect as I am sure someone will point out. But, what they have accomplished in such a conservative environment speaks to the importance of working together towards common goals. We as a community spend far too much time fighting amongst ourselves and not enough time seeking common ground and effective political action.

Kudos to the Dallas gays and good luck to Ed Oakley!

I don't know why it's a surprise that any major city is liberal
I don't know any that aren't. It's like college campuses. Even in the most conservative areas, the major universities are liberal. Virginia Tech is a perfect example of that.

So, after this, from the other Freepers
Can you with a straight face say that Republicans are actually more accepting of gays than Democrats, that a Republican administration would be more beneficial?  The hatred just wafts off the screen.  "Fudge packers and clam eaters."  Haven't heard those ditties since the mid-eighties.

Oh, and tying liberalism to a gun massacre in one stroke.  You spin me like a 45, baby.

[ Parent ]
Josh, darlin', Pam doesn't want us to talk to trolls.

[ Parent ]
I understand
But at the same time, he is still unblocked, so that seems to indicate that his viewpoint is still welcome (and a conservative viewpoint should be welcome, even though arrogance is not).

The reason I ask is because I really want to see how someone can reconcile the idea that Republicans have anything to offer gays other than tax breaks and security from "teh brown menace."  I hear that opinion so many times, I want to see if it can be reconciled in a coherent fashion, especially in light of the Repugs' pandering to the hardcore religious right who seem bent on legislating us out of sight.

And I meant what I said by the spinning comment.  It was a compliment.  Of course I disagree with him, but it was masterfully spun.  Get this guy a job at Faux News, STAT! (Presuming he doesn't already work there.)

I will play nice.  I was bad before.  If the tempers flare, I will go take a cool shower.  Promise!

[ Parent ]
Think of this as a test and...
...a chance to practice patience.

Even better, just chat with us.  We adore you.

Or, as big, purple Barney sorta sings,

"We love you, you love us, substitute love for the fuss."

[ Parent ]
Holly, you are too funny
I think the lobotomy made you more musical!

What the hell was I doing in Oaxaca in 1992, on the eve of the Zapatista revolution?

[ Parent ]
Thanks, Pumpkin.
I'm actually writing an article right now about a rock n' roll band.  That's probably what's made me more musical: osmosis.

What the lobotomy has done to me is this: "President Bush is the grateiest president of all time."

Notice that one can remove the mind, but one can't extricate the heart of a progressive.

[ Parent ]
Post-lobotomy...
...you even spell like a Freeper!

[ Parent ]
But did you notice that I'm a sly, faux Freeper?
"Grateiest" as in he grates on me more than any other prez.

[ Parent ]
Ooo missed that...
...but then again, I am usually (ok, always) outgunned in the wit department on the Blend. :-)

[ Parent ]
That is true
I have a short temper, and I need to learn to fix that.

I adore all you too!  :)

[ Parent ]
Are you deliberately trying to cause trouble?
because all I'm saying is people act surprised that a major city, especially in Texas, would make a move that could be associated with liberalism. And my point was simply that no matter how conservative the surrounding area, any large city and any large university is a haven for liberalism.  I chose Virginia Tech as an example because I live near it, and I know the territory.

[ Parent ]
Nope
Trying to be provocative, perhaps, but cause trouble?  Mo.

The Virginia Tech example was interesting because of its connection with one of the worst school shootings in US history.  The association is one that is to be expected.  Since, as you say, "any large city and any large university is a haven for liberalism," you could choosen any random school.  But, I take you at your word and apologize if I made any connection you did not intend to make.

I knew Dallas was pretty liberal, but I am surprised to see an openly gay mayor there.  Pleasantly surprised.  It is hard enough to get openly gay people into office in even relatively blue areas.  Even if cities are more liberal, the populace is still going to draw large numbers from the surrounding area.

My original question stands.  In light of these Free Republic quotes, how can you still make the assertion that the Republican Party is good for glbt people, what with the blatant homophobia?

[ Parent ]
I picked VT because
I live near there, and it is an example of a liberal campus within a VERY conservative surrounding area.

What the hell do the FR quotes have to do with Republican policy? It's actually conservatism that I am talking about as being better for glbt people, because it is better for ALL people. Conservatism stands for the individual and promotes each of them to prosper to the fullest extent of his abilities, by not differentiating therefore discriminating against him, and by allowing him to keep more of his own money.

[ Parent ]
Interesting
So you would say Free Republic is not representative of a large contingent of conservatives?  Because right now, modern American conservatism is snuggled right up to the religous right, and there isn't enough room in that bed for gay people.

In the abstract, I would agree that conservatism COULD be good for all people, but right now it has made glbt people into its scapegoat.  Consider the 2004 elections, when the Republicans courted black churches specifically for the purpose of exploiting their homophobia and getting them to vote against the Democrats (who, it should be said, has not been the greatest for GLBT people either, but they are still better than the Republicans in that they don't target us).

[ Parent ]
Once again, you misdiagnose who the religious right it.
The liberal template is that the religious right is solely evangelical protestants. This is false. A huge segment of the RR consists of people like me, Catholics, who are not hostile to gays.

And probably the only valuable thing to come out of this particular strand of the thread, I'm afraid.

[ Parent ]
you get worked up over religous sterotypes but then throw out this shit?
Oh yea, you don't mean to be mean.  You try to play nice.  And it's always someone else who is picking on you.

And you never see the offense you throw at people by using sterotypes, even right after getting your knickers in a twist over what you consider a sterotype.  You are a hypocrite in all things and all ways.

The recipe
post is an intended slap. Why don't you comment on that?

I know the plan. Goad me into saying something then run to Pam with it. Why don't you just respond to the points I made on this thread.

[ Parent ]
Ah yes
The dreaded assault by recipe!  "Oh, dear God, they are coming after me with side dishes!  No, no, not the chipped beef on toast!  Anything but that!  You fiends!  You well-dressed foodie fiends!"

[ Parent ]
No, it's the same as someone singing and covering their ears
when you are making a point. It is very rude and disrespectful, and is intended to belittle. Judging by Patrick's complaints to Pam, you know damn well he wasn't just sharing a recipe with me.

[ Parent ]
You are right
Totally rude.  How about a snack?  From cooks.com:

CRY BABY COOKIES

1 c. sugar
1 c. molasses
1 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 c. raisins
1 c. nuts
4 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. soda dissolved in
1 c. hot coffee

Mix as for butter cake, adding molasses after sugar, then beaten eggs. Sift dry ingredients together and stir in chopped raisins and nuts. Add some of flour mixture to sugar mixture, beat well. Then add coffee and flour mixture alternately.
Drop from spoon onto buttered cookie sheet or in oiled pans, and bake in moderate oven.

For Honey Cookies use recipe for Cry Baby Cookies - only omit the cup of molasses and use 1 cup of honey.

(I am going to have diabetes at the end of the day.)

[ Parent ]
It is you who once again misdiagnosis...
The term Religious Right is a broad label applied by scholars, journalists, and critics to a number of political and religious movements and groups that primarily are active around conservative and right wing social issues.[1]William Martin suggests that the terms "Religious Right" and "New Christian Right" can refer to the movement in the United States that began to mobilize in the 1960s.[2]Others, however, use the term to describe a coalition of religious conservatives that extends beyond Christianity.[3]

The terms Religious Right and Christian Right are considered pejorative by some conservative critics, who suggest it is used primarily by the political left.

The Christian Right in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, has made efforts to reach out to Orthodox Jews and Muslim social conservatives, especially in building coalitions against abortion and same-sex marriage.

At the United Nations level, conservative interfaith NGOs co-operate over issues of gender, reproductive and sexual health, lesbian and gay rights, family and bioethical policies. The World Congress of Families is one particularly important interfaith forum for that purpose.[7]

http://en.wikipedia....

Please, tell me again how the religous right has many members that don't have anything aginst GLBT people?  They reach out to all other religous organizations to fight abortion (which I don't care for, but support a womens right to choose) and Same sex marriage.

Can you tell me how fighting same sex marriage and equality doesn't equate with hostility to glbt peoples?  The religous right is neither religous, nor right.

Now Burnsey
You can't complain about the vitriol on the threads and then feed the trolls. Have some creamed chipped beef on toast instead.

What the hell was I doing in Oaxaca in 1992, on the eve of the Zapatista revolution?

[ Parent ]
But CK
Maybe it is the wonderful aromas that bring them in.  You know, "Come for the java, stay for the creamed chipped beaf on toast"?

[ Parent ]
True enough but I am sick and tired
Sick and tired of being sick and tired.  I fight every day against this type of bullshit, only to come to a "refuge" that has started to become the refuge of those I fight against.

I'm tired of some calling us bigots in the same breath that they use slurs and sterotypes to put us down.  Why oh why can't he just go away and join the log cabin republicans who believe his shit?

And don't they call chipped beef on toast "Shit on a Shingle"?  I don't need the reciepe I get it served with my houseblend every morning.  I wouldn't be "Feeding the Trolls" if they were not here and spoutting their shit while bashing with their shingle.

I guess it's just time to start looking for a new place to visit and hang out.  Unfortunately I'm gonna call it a day and be done with it.

Callie will get a big kick out of this, as she's seen me leave other blogs when they became infected with a resident evil.  Guess I'll just go for good.

The trollish sounding blogger formerly known as BURNSEY

[ Parent ]
Don't go - just be patient.
Your persistence will be worth it here more than it will in the rest of the world.

Yes, they do call it shit on a shingle.  Thats why I found it appropriate.

[ Parent ]
Burnsey
If you have to go, then go.  But keep in mind the ratio here in Pam's House Blend is usually everyone else vs one little troll, and our current visitation is hardly that bad (I hesitate to call him a troll, in fact--he is a bit of a part-timer).  Wherever you go, they will pop up and sputter "Liberal" as though it is the worst epithet known to humankind.  Engage him when you really want to (for example, I am really looking for a way to reconcile modern conservatism with acceptance of glbt people, because I want to see how they tick), and when he gets nasty, disengage or call him on it.  I made the mistake of getting mad and engaging in name calling earlier.  I am not particularly proud of the words I used, but I am not ashamed of my motivations or my intent.

I, for one, don't want you to leave.  Nor do I want you banned.

[ Parent ]
Burnsey, you can give all the history you want, but the fact is,
people on the left are trying to make out like everyone on the religious right shares fundamentalist protestant beliefs. Nobody is talking about the Muslims when referring to the RR; not in this country at least. Spare me.

The problem for liberals is that many of them were raised Catholic, but have abandoned the Church. Still, they don't like to admit most Catholics vote GOP, and are religious conservatives. But most Catholics do NOT hold the same views as the fundamentalists.

[ Parent ]
There are religious people who don't have anything against gays
But they are awfully silent about it, and let their less tolerant fundies-in-arms have the podium all too often.

[ Parent ]
No "let" about it!
Talk show and news analysis show bookers go for controversial figures who are good at delivering zingers, sound bites. Most progressives aren't very good at this media art, and progressive clergy are pathetic. They see Too Much Nuance, and bookers don't want Nuance, they want Blood On The Floor.

[ Parent ]
Recipe
JoshWaterman, he's not worth it.  Feeding the troll only emboldens him.  Remember that he hijacked two threads to gently insinuate (but he didn't mean it that way, honest!) that gay men are more likely to be pedophiles than straight men.  He's one of the sneakiest trolls that I have ever seen but he's still a troll.  He always adds something that will make people comment and then goes off on a tangent and fans the flames.  The way that he keeps insisting that I'm angry with him or offended by him shows what he is wishing for.  In my case it really is just an excuse to write satire.  I don't know what your emotional response to him is but if it's anger, just remember that he's doing this on purpose just to get a rise out of people  for cheap entertainment.  He's up to his old tricks, don't let him get away with it.
The Josh, you don't know what a troll is, sorry.  You don't need to misrepresent yourself for starters.  All you need to do is post flame bait.  Here's an example: happy holidays Josh!

Ok, the recipe.  I'm not much of a cook so here's my contribution:

Ice Cubes
Pour water into ice cube tray, put in freezer for a couple hours.  You will be able to tell that they are done when you don't see any liquid water.

My America includes LGBT families.

[ Parent ]
my favorite comment
The gays were checking out my 30-year-old son! Who will protect the children?

Because a 30-year-old couldn't say, "No, thanks, not interested."

I wonder if this man and his son ever check out women on the street.

Gee, I wonder...
Seems entirely possible that the men checking him out might be part of why the son wants a loft in downtown FW.  But he can't tell that to dad!  Aren't conservatives supposed to want houses in the suburbs instead, so they can escape the degenerate urban ghettos?

[ Parent ]
I liked that one too
And not to pick on the freeper and his son, but this liberal homosexual didn't have my parents with me at thirty as I searched for a condo in Philadelphia and its burbs.  I don't think one of my parents has ever looked for a place to live with me.  I'm sure it's common practice though.  But, I would have guessed these brave freeper men capable of raising only True Grit, pull yourself up by the bootstraps he-men.

Electricity's for light bulbs!

[ Parent ]
some do
My 29-year-old brother just bought a townhouse near Philadelphia, and my mother went with him to most of the places he looked. I don't think it's so abnormal to take a parent along when making a major purchase like a first home, especially as one's parents have likely purchased one if not several homes. On the other hand, avoiding the queers wasn't anywhere on their list of criteria for a house for him, so I guess my family is quite different from the Freeper above.

[ Parent ]
sounds
nice.  I loved my place in the Philly area.

I just picture these strong swivel-chair types as "kick-em out of the nest and see if they fly or die" parents.  It would fit how they'd see poverty addressed. But, I'm sure they take care of their own (that's part of what it's all about for them).

Also, the likelihood of the Dallas apartment hunting  father-son scenario being real could be fairly low.  Freepers are like trolls for their fantastic tales and testimonials.

Electricity's for light bulbs!

[ Parent ]
I know how they feel
I hate it when women check me out on the street or on the train. I run back to to the gay ghetto as fast as I can and take a long, purifying shower.

What the hell was I doing in Oaxaca in 1992, on the eve of the Zapatista revolution?

[ Parent ]
Sure, why not
Does that mean in Dallas if I have a Y chromosome and certain *ahem* body parts but say I'm a woman, then to the city I'm a woman (and vice-versa)?

Yes, in the scenario that you present, to the city you are a woman and the city is a woman to you.  It works out nicer that way.

What the hell was I doing in Oaxaca in 1992, on the eve of the Zapatista revolution?

Black and Decker must be selling a lot of drills, 'cause this guy...
...has obviously already self-lobotomized: "You don't hear normal people going around or campaigning for office as "openly heterosexual". Their sexuality simply isn't an issue at all."

Actually, here's what this guy likely did:

1.  Drilled a big hole in his head.

2.  Inserted one of those paint paddles that attach to a drill.

3.  Drained his brain.

4.  Promptly became one of the greatest Freepers of all time.

Run away, Run away!
There seems to be an overwhelming sense that they're very unhappy about all those uppity non-white, non-straight, non-rich, non-male, non-xtian folks not keeping to their rightful place in urban life.  "We HAD to leave the city - OUR city - cuz the nigrahs and the messcans and the homuhsekshuals wuz jist takin' over!  I don't know what the world's comin' ta!"

You can always count on the Free Republic
While I would be tickled to death if Ed Oakley won the run-off -- the massive head-explody it would cause is worth it all by itself -- he's still owned by the developers.  Or at least beholden to them.  Of course, so is damn near everyone else in Dallas city politics.

Love the Freepi comments, but this one in particular caught my eye:

For a minute I thought it was going to be Troy Aikman.

Back when I was a student at SMU, I heard a FOAF story that Troy Aikman had been seen dancing at Village Station (now S4) on Cedar Springs.  Glad to hear that rumor's still going around.  XD

I've heard the rumors too
Would love it if he were too.  I could finally fantasize about him then.  :)

[ Parent ]
Seconded!
Mmmmm Troy Aikman.  He was almost enough to make me root for the Cowboys.  But as a lifelong Redskins fan, I just couldn't quite make the leap.  I'd still do him though.  (Ooops, did I say that out loud?  Damn inner monologue again...)

[ Parent ]
This is just a great line.
Dallas has been circling the drain for at least a decade. My in-laws finally made the move and bought a house closer to Waco. They can't get out of Dallas fast enough.

How fracked in the head do you have to be to think Waco -- home of Koresh -- is preferable to anywhere else?

Blogwhoring @ http://indigestible.nightwares.com/

Now, now
It's not fair to associate Waco with David Koresh exclusively.  They have other attractions, like the Dr Pepper Museum!

Oh, and one out of five families live below the poverty line.  Maybe that is why Republicans love Waco so much.  An abundance of cheap labor.

[ Parent ]
duhduhduh
i read that really quickly and saw "clay aiken" for some reason. i was about to say "well how stupid can they be?" but now i had to edit my comment. that's ten seconds wasted. sigh.

I don't like Dallas. How about Knots Landing?
[The heading is coined by Jack McFarland (Sean Hayes) in Will & Grace]

Is this a permanent (within term limits) position similar to Ron Oden, Klaus Woworeit, and Bertrand Delanoe, or is it temporary like Toni Atkins?

Screw that swill.
Give me Falcon Crest!  ;)

[ Parent ]
This set off the Freepi, and a few seemed to fixate on Troy Aikman's sexuality for some reason...
Football is already quite gay.  Heaps of sweaty men.  Tight, shiny pants.  The inevitable leering in the locker room under the auspices of comparing equipment.
