Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Time's 'Person of the Year' is You

by: Pam Spaulding

I guess this means we should pat each other on the back, eh? (Reuters):
You were named Time magazine "Person of the Year" on Saturday for the explosive growth and influence of user-generated Internet content such as blogs, video-file sharing site YouTube and social network MySpace.

"For seizing the reins of the global media, for founding and framing the new digital democracy, for working for nothing and beating the pros at their own game, Time's Person of the Year for 2006 is you," the magazine's Lev Grossman wrote.

The magazine has put a mirror on the cover of its "Person of the Year" issue, released on Monday, "because it literally reflects the idea that you, not us, are transforming the information age," Editor Richard Stengel said in a statement.

You beat out candidates including Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, China's President Hu Jintao, North Korean leader Kim Jong-il and James Baker, the former U.S. Secretary of State who led Washington's bipartisan Iraq Study Group.

If you think about it, "Our" ability to retain the influence that garnered this award is hanging by a thread in many ways. Let's look at one element honored here, blogs. The consolidation of "new media" (the purchase of You Tube by Google) -- or the fact that millions of blogs are tethered to Blogger, which is also owned by Google, represents a huge Achilles' heel for You.

If the Big G decides to start charging for the use of those services, particularly Blogger, a big chunk of the folks of influence Time is lauding -- who pay zero and rely on Google's servers and good will -- will simply drop off the map. Even worse, the blog content held on Google's servers could simply vanish based on some bean counter's decision that the cost of hosting all that "free" content isn't worth it, or because Congress passes some legislation that puts the Internet giant at some legal or financial risk and Google cuts the cord.

Also, it's no wonder that the political establishment (members of both parties, mind you) sees "new media" as a threat, and has shown little understanding of blogs, the Internet, or for that matter, the right to free speech. We've seen multiple attempts to censor, cripple, or discredit bloggers by the Hill, corporate America, or the MSM.

Here's the Time piece.

UPDATE: Apparently William Beutler at Blog P.I. is a pretty good prognosticator; he was on target with his call on the Time selection -- two months ago!

Interesting Choice
I often think Time's choices are lame at best, and often reflect a horrible understanding of what it is to affect all for better or worse, but this one is both insightful and intriguing.

My choice was...
Last night, I watched the CNN special where they revealed Time's choice at the end. The show as of all the editorial meetings over the last couple of months for the issue, where they batted around ideas. While I am glad they chose this one and I like the way they presented it, my favorite was a "persons of the year" cover idea with Cheney, Bush and Rumsfeld displayed in a triangle-like layout, with the caption "Axis of incompetence" or "Axis of failure."

You
You really did very well.

The beauty of the internet
If the Big G decides to start charging for the use of those services, particularly Blogger, a big chunk of the folks of influence Time is lauding -- who pay zero and rely on Google's servers and good will -- will simply drop off the map.

At first, I said, "Yeah, there is that." Then the FWIG (Friend Wot Is a Girl) pointed out that if Google's dumb enough to do that, someone else will come up with something better. That's what happened back in the day when everyone used Yahoo!--remember? Yahoo! got overrun by ads, so people switched to Google.

I started out doing social networking on Usenet. That gave rise to the mailing list culture, which got supplanted by LiveJournal, which is being edged out by comment-style blogs on other services. Even with the corporate consolidation, there will always be intrepid programmers who say, "Well, what if we did it like this?"
