The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Images of beach restroom sex vex Ft. Lauderdale mayor, calls for robojohns

by: Pam Spaulding

Thu Jul 05, 2007 at 07:00:00 AM EDT

Even though the Fort Lauderdale Police Department has said that public restroom sex at the beaches of the city has not been an issue, the bible beating, aggressively anti-gay mayor, Jim Naugle, has decided that the phantom anonymous gay sex requires $250K taxpayer dollars to be spent on a portable "robojohn." (365gay):
Mayor Jim Naugle has spent the better part of a decade fighting what he has claimed to be an attempt by gays to take over Fort Lauderdale. He has consistently fought all LGBT rights ordinances that have come before city commissioners.

Now he's turning his attention on the beach - long a favorite of gay tourists who bring millions of dollars into the city each year.

..."We're trying to provide a family environment where people can take their children who need to use the bathroom," he told the paper "without having to worry about a couple of men in there engaged in a sex act."

The police department, however, tells the paper that sex in bathrooms isn't a major problem. Sgt. Frank Sousa. tells the Sun-Sentinel that while there may once have been a problem it isn't today. "There's no evidence, no reports or arrests made for any men having sex in any restrooms," Sousa told the paper.

Nevertheless, Naugle wants the city to buy a portable bathroom called a "robo-john" and have it placed on the beach at Sebastian Street an area popular with gay sunbathers.

These automated toilet stalls are used in other cities --- Seattle, New York, and Atlanta -- but not as a deterrent to public sex. Because the doors only stay closed for a set amount of time, and the seat is cleaned between uses, it's obviously a more sanitary system, deters vagrants and crime, and requires no attendant. Naugle's focus is that there isn't enough private time in the robojohn for anyone to have sex.

And he knows this...how? Having seen public sex on a freaking moving subway train in NYC (bleh -- and both times it was het couples), I can attest that just about anything is possible in a very short period of time.

Since you are so worried about sex between men in the john, Mr. Mayor, perhaps you should install a camera as well so you can personally monitor the success of the installed public crapper.

Ummm...
What if you aren't having sex... you just need a little more time?

What the hell was I doing in Oaxaca in 1992, on the eve of the Zapatista revolution?

Shit, you're right, Kid, someone would see ya mid-shit.
Or even worse, mid-wipe.  Yeah, that's real family-friendly.

The thing that I like I about Fort Lauderdale is that NO het couple has ever had sex outside of the bounds of matrimony.  Never.  Not once.  It's always straight and sober sex down there, sanctioned by God.  Amen.  I will now pass the collection plate.  Reach deep, my brothers and sisters!

...nor in a public restroom.
lol

Hey, you didn't pony up some bucks!
I can't continue to do the Lord's work unless I expand my mansion!

Sounds like a potential violation
of some civil rights.  There are those of us with diagnosed intestinal issues that require extra time.  And there is that little thing called the Americans with Disabilities Act.  But when you are violating one set of civil liberties, why not violate a whole handful?

I didn't realize Ft. Lauderdale had a gay sex-obssessed whack job for a mayor.
What a pity!

Mayor & Coral Ridge Ministries
"Four years ago Rev. D. James Kennedy, pastor of the ultraright[-wing] and antigay Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church and head of Fort Lauderdalebased Coral Ridge Ministries (a nationally syndicated religious broadcast program), supported three stealth candidates from his church for the Oakland Park City Commission."  The article goes on to say that they mayor is being supported financially by Kennedy.

Make alot of noise. Life is short.

What part of Florida didn't you understand?
Home of Charlie Christ and Ann Coulter and Rush Limpbaugh

Sheesh...

Everyone knows that all you need to do is get two big shopping bags--either Old Navy or Bloomingdales. Now, how is Robojohn going to know the difference between someone with aggressive shopping habits or someone with a foot in each bag having a really good time with someone they just met?

Curses! My million dollar ideas foiled again: "God Bless Your Brand!" http://www.christvertising.com/

It costs $250,000 of our tax dollars for a robo-john.
1. Naugle thinks that only gay people have sex in the bathroom.  What about the hets who are looking for somewhere kinky for a bang?  That hypocrite mayor would think it's alright.

2. According to 365Gay.com, the robojohn costs $250,000 to install.  I think it's one of those pork-barrel projects.

3. Having sex in a public restroom (especially at the beach) is not good, especially when the place is very unsanitary.

Took park benches away
Florida.  I left 20 years ago.  Then they took the benches away next to the Ocean.  No place to sit and watch the waves roll in.  Afraid a homeless person might take a nap or a gay man sit down.

Make alot of noise. Life is short.

That reminds me
of an article in the Boston Globe a few months back that briefly announced that most pay phones were being taken down in an effort to combat drug dealing. Now you really have to search in most neighborhoods if you don't have a cell phone.

It seems that without pay phones, drug dealers would get MBAs at Ivy League schools like our president, instead of contributing to the deterioration of American society, like our president.

What the hell was I doing in Oaxaca in 1992, on the eve of the Zapatista revolution?

Great points, Charley and CK.
This is some kind of strange illogical association:

Public restrooms = gay sex
Park benches = transients
Phone booths = drug dealing

Next, they'll be banning automobiles in order to end road rage..or they'll be banning currency in order to crack down on robberies.

Put the monitor on the OUTSIDE of the putative tearoom
and then you'd have all sorts of rude comments.

A bit SMALL, dontyathink?
My DOG does it better than you!
Ewwwwwwwwww!

Not to mention the cheers, and the going-to-hell street preachers.

Empiricism first --
Are gay men actually having sex in public toilets in Ft. Lauderdale?  I read in one article that the police haven't indicated that this is an issue.

Or is this mostly about Mr. Naugle's personal rage and interest in innovative ways to beat people up?

That said:  Gay men (or women) should absolutely NOT be having sex in public restrooms or other places where they may be encountered by others.  It's a simple matter of consideration and respect for others.  The same rule applies 100% to heterosexuals as well.  The "Mile High Club" comes to mind.  I love sex as much as the next person, but to engage in it in front of others without their consent basically violates other people.

There is one prominent fictional enshrinement of heterosexuals' having sex in public:  There is a scene in the movie "Risky Business" where Tom Cruise's character -- who is of HIGH SCHOOL AGE, by the way -- engages in coitus with a female prostitute while riding a public "El" train in Chicago.  I remember feeling rather uncomfortable with that scenario when I saw that movie...  Let's encourage teenage boys to go boink a woman on a train!

Morality vs Art
I agree that public sex is a bad idea. However, even movies count as art and that is an impossible standard for art. Movies don't just depict what society agrees that everyone should do; they also explore subconscious desires and taboos. I doubt that many people thought that Risky Business was a guide to raising healthy teenagers.

What the hell was I doing in Oaxaca in 1992, on the eve of the Zapatista revolution?

[ Parent ]
Of course not!
I'm not sure I could think of a better example of the celebration of the male teenage id than Risky Business.  It's a pure high school boy's fantasy!

[ Parent ]
Hets Gone Wild!
1. The "Mile High Club" thing is a good point.  Recently, actor Ralph Fiennes banged a stewardess in an airplane lavatory (and it was a Qantas jumbo jet, too).  But then again, there are private companies who would fulfill the requests of the clients.

2. That subway banging is just creepy, especially when there are creepy transients around to watch.  But a few things about "Risky Business":

-Young boys banging older women in subways seems so outdated because right now the latest fad is to bang teachers in the classrooms.

-I always feel uncomfortable seeing Tom Cruise in any movie.  That guy is a freak.

[ Parent ]
It is just more fear,
Simple as that.  The SSM ban amendment of 2006 in Florida failed by 21,000 signatures, so it didn't make the ballot.  Right now it is 155,000+ short that is required, but they have until Feb 01, 2008 to gather them.

In 2006, the RNC was caught funding the measure with aprox. $300,000.  Although not illegal under Florida law, it didn't paas the smell test with many people.  The Fundies believe this shorted them the 21,000 signatures.

So what better way to drum up support for the ban than fear of gay sex in bathrooms, and a scary dude in Miami with an anti-gay banner on his house saying he is running for mayor.

As for sex in beachfront bathrooms, gay or straight, they would be too hot during the day, as they are not airconditioned, and not the cleanest places.

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

Correct, but
I agree with the comment above, except that the group only needs the 20,000 signatures to make it on the ballot.  The signatures are good for four years, so the signatures from 2006 will still be good.

ok, i can safely vent here
yea, bathroom sex is sooo 1970's
Sebastian beach is a gay (mostly) beach. It's just gay friendly. Here's my beef... and it's just a beef in general. We act like we never did such things. We need to own our past. Truth is back when being a homo was a WAY bad thing; people cruised in all kinds of crazy places. Now, fast forward to 2007. Being gay is more accepted. People no longer have to lurk in the dark corners. We've ditched ALOT of old behavior. We now have families and act like grown ups for the most part. My argument has been a lot of that crappy behavior was the result of oppression (the closet). Getting married and having a family was not really an option back in the 50s. As a landscape architect.. guess what?. we still have to design for such things (gay and straight) Am I getting my point across? Oppression fosters bad behavior. Inclusion fosters "normal" behavior.
All that being said... yea, this guy is just selling a 250,000 dollar toilet. Now, if you put a regular facility there would boys be having sex in there? Knowing Lauderdale... yes, the tacky, slutty bois would. And that's a really small percentage of the bois in Ladeda. Most everybody else is so over that adolescent behavior. it's so George Michael... like the cops said? hasn?t been a problem.

http://EQFL.org

That Stretch of Ft Lauderdale Beach @ Sebastian St
could really use a public toilet. Christen it in honor of
Mayor Jim Naugle, give it a bronze plaque with his smiling face with list of deeds done while involved in Broward County Politics. Memorialize Naugle with the RoboJohn. Invite George Michael as special guest to cut the rainbow ribbon.  When at the beach and you really gotta go, you can go take a Naugle in privacy.

Over the Top
Once again, this mayor has made over-the-top comments to offend a segment of his population.  These particular comments both incite hate and violence against gays and lesbians because they solely are meant to demean us.  The police have repeatedly said that they have not had any complaints or incidents of sex in public bathrooms, so his comments are intended to provoke more anti-gay behavior from others.

We encourage everyone to call his office and demand that he apologize or resign.  Equality Florida is asking that people send him a piece of toilet paper.  You can find out how to do that by going to http://ga4.org/campa...
