A great organization.  Factual, and a reliable source.  GLAAD is not as strong or focused, perhaps due to their Hollywood  celebrity smoozings.  They got it right in this case.

He's afraid of marauding dykes with guns?  Well, he's a big, rich, white man.  Aren't big, rich, white men the masters of the Universe?  Aren't they the gun-loving sorts who are fond of imperialism and cruise missiles and shock and awe?  He should want to mix it up with the evil dykes trying to despoil children.  This is his chance to be the mighty American hero.

Some born into priviledge usually don't put importance on it once they rise to power, but want to work for humanitarian causes.  FRD, Eleanor, Florence Nightingale an example.  The New England patrician Bush family is an exception, posturing like Texas hicks to get elected.  It's the poor white's like the Clinton's who rise to power that are the corruptable.  Hillary started out as an idealist for health care, but became corrupted with large donations from the health care industry.

Not a very strong statement.  I mean, "some" born into privilege become axe murderers.  I think it's safe to say that most people born into privilege enjoy privilege their entire lives.  That's why we're in the state that we are.  Our system is set up such that wealth rewards wealth.

I was referring to JFK and his fight for civil rights, FDR and social security, and all the rest of the humanitarians born into priviledge.  I am not for the Bush crowd and I think you know this. 
Abraham Lincoln is one poor man that was not corrupted, but that was a different time and circumstance for our country. 
BTW, of all the candidates, I favor Obama so far.  Don't trust Edwards, a very wealthy white man.

Have patience.  In 20 or 30 years blacks Hispanics and Asians will be in control and have the popular vote in this country.  Let's see if you can do better in keeping a democractic system of government.  You will be free to run it like the city of Washington D.C.  Obama has it right, so does Oprah.  But does Snoop Dog or the black pastors that hate our guts?

yep

gays and all LGBT people are discriminated against, rich or poor.  We can't marry, in many places can't adopt, can't always visit our loved ones in the hospital, can be fired just for being gay, and on and on. 

But rich white guys like Kennedy, O'Really, Rush, and Bloomberg don't suffer from such discrimination, unless they also happen to be gay.

I'm not worried about "teh brown menace."  It's nothing more than ready-made O'Reilly talking point.  Have local governments been giving way to anarchy anywhere because of minorities or immigration?  Is that what you're getting at with, "You will be free to run it like the city of Washington D.C."?  I'm not following.

Well...

One big problem in DC is that Congress holds the purse strings. A lot of great initiatives have come out of the local government, only to be chopped by Republicans from Texas and Wyoming. If it were up to the residents of DC, gay people would have civil unions, and possibly full marriage rights.

Also, you don't need to be so afraid of the brown people uniting against you. There is precious little that black, Asian, and Hispanic people as a whole agree on.  Racism isn't just limited to white v. other.

You are right

but there is no reason to think that a white majority is needed to have a healthy, functioning democracy. Usually the people who say that (not saying you) are trying to justify LIMITING democracy in order to "preserve" it, as in the American South and South Africa.

It is akin to fighting wars to end war, and eliminating civil liberties to protect our freedom.

My fight is against religion

Not racial or economic classes.  My ancestors were Puritans and in 1610 fled England because of their religious belief which was too crazy for British society. They helped in the founding of Massachusetts Bay Colony and appointed Cotton Mather as their spiritual leader.

Gay men were seen as criminals strung up. Anyone not producing children like rabbits were seen as ungodly. Nathaniel Merrill the original stud in my linage, had seven sons, his son had seven sons, and so on......
Then came the Salem Witch trials. Since then, Americans have tried to form a democracy based on reason, and lately we are headed back into a theocratic form of government.

With homophobic pastors mixing in MLK words with hate and influencing and intimidating voters, we may get there soon.

But that's just the point, Holly.  Big, white men marginalize and view lesbians as "less than" precisely because they ARE threatened by them.  Nothing is more threatening than someone who can't be bullied by a man and doesn't desire one and want one to protect her in exchange for servitude.  Everything guys like O'Lielly do is intended to reinforce the misogynistic power structure (after all, what do the words "traditional marriage" call to mind--"Leave It to Beaver," right?). A dyke with a gun is about as scary as it gets for these dudes.

Homophobia itself is rooted in misogyny (if you ask big, old, opinionated me).  Hence the censure of effeminate men, the attempt to disempower masculine women and the strictures against male/male intercourse (if some men can get it up for each other, then they can rape the men in power, which threatens their supremacy).

Fundy mantra: "Boys wear blue and girls wear pink and that's the way it is, whatever you might think."

Over the years, I've met so many blue boys and pink girls who were caricatures of male and female.  They wear exoskeletons of gender, which restrict growth and preclude suppleness.  I much prefer women and men with range and especially unaffected and unannounced range: a man who alerts everyone that he's ranging by cooking at a range isn't sexy.  Likewise with a woman who declares that she's using power tools.  Maybe that's just a stage someone has to pass through on the way to being a gender ranger, aka a complex and beguiling adult.

The scale of maleness and femaleness is similar to the scale of gayness that people seem to obsess over. Your "gender exoskeleton" fits perfectly. Some gay guys walk around like the latest computer generated animation from Pixar. Now conforming to over 10,000 stereotypes! So lifelike you would think that the actor was a real person!

Other gay guys go out of their way to demonstrate that they are NOT "really gay". On your first conversation they will find ways to let you know that they follow sports, know how to fix cars, and never go to gay places. Well, isn't that refreshing.

Some people worry that gay culture is vanishing. Personally, I don't mind one bit. I have a lot more in common with "gender ranging" straight boys than mock-men and party monsters anyway. It is so liberating when you realize that you really don't have to worry about whether anything that you do is masculine or feminine, gay or straight. If it fits you, have fun. If not, no stress.

Gay culture is not just party boys

There are plenty of other venues:
amateur choruses, bands
gay-predominant churches
outdoors and running clubs
activist and political groups
coffeehouses, diners, low-decibel bars
older lesbian and older gay social clubs
book clubs

Granted, these aren't instant pickup venues, but if you are looking for someone more permanent, or just wanting community,  these things are there. And as long as there are unattached LGBT people who aren't huge drinkers and every-night clubbers, there will be a call for alternate LGBT social venues.

Kid, I'm not surprised that you'd be drawn to gender rangers.

If one partners with a parody of a person, that extreme and rigid role also forces one into an extreme and rigid role: you be the top and I'll be the bottom and you be butch and I'll be femme and you be the ditz and I'll be the sensible one.  I make, when I sense that someone is trying to narrow their sense of me, a conscious attempt to fail their expectations. 

When I taught at Harvard's Kennedy School, I attended a couple parties where someone said, "Oh, I've heard about you.  You're that genius from the Kennedy School."

Right away, I'd something banal and shatter their assumption.  It was inevitable that I would have failed their expectations anyway.  That way, I controlled the moment of failure and we could then get down to having the fun that comes from relating with lesser expectations.

So it goes in the most intimate relationships.  People will use you to counterbalance their lives and one must be wary.  I know some people who are into BDSM and they all say that many slaves are CEO types.  Heck, Hitler had his girlfriends shit on him, which killed a couple of them, for they couldn't bear to shit on their almighty Fuhrer.  John Steinbeck explored this phenomenon in "East of Eden," where Cathy, the madam, has collected photos of the town's most powerful men in positions of utter sexual submission.  My point, I guess, is that one must be wary of utterly occupying one role, for it can induce one to utterly occupy another on the sly, or to force others into the opposite role, even if that's not their preference.  One lives a life of extremes to simulate any sort of balance.

You totally nailed it here, Lisa. As a well tattooed lesbian who has been known to carry a gun and occasionally scare people (though never intentionally), I ought to know what you say is true. They want women to be weak, act weak, be subservient, and most of all--be sexually available to them. Being who I am denies them all these wants, and they simply do not like it. Too fricken bad. Be afraid O'Reilly. Be very afraid.

Thanks, Jen!  Tattoos are a good thing to add to the list of what scares big, white sexists because the art affirms that your body is yours, and not there for their approval.  Maybe the most scary for them would be gangs of big, black, tattooed, armed, atheist lesbians.  These gangs would threaten their male supremacy and their white supremacy, and would challenge the church structure that helps enforce archaic inequities.  And, lo and behold, they have manufactured from the thin air between their ears something mighty close to such gangs!

It is no coincidence that the most homophobic cultures and subcultures are the most patriarchal.

Hint...

...the only way to attack O'Reilly is through his advertisers.  Complaining to the Faux Noise Machine won't do any good.  If enough people tell the advertisers that they resent their advertising on his program, and he'll be gone in an instant.  It worked with Dr. Laura (pretty much), it worked with Don "I'm an ass" in the Morning, and it could work with O'Reilly.

In an advertising-driven medium, the advertisers call the shots.  The material between ads is just filler to get you to watch or listen to (in the case of radio) the ads.

Not exactly like this one Sharon, but

I do remember a story or something about a ring of gay men who would abduct, rape and kill infants, as part of some gross out story.  As I remember it had something to do with wild allegations about some bizarre party scene.

I can't remember much of the particulars, but I remember it was also a former cop (I think from Chicago or Philadelphia) who was promoting this.  LaBarbera had something on one of the websites he was posting on at the time, but it died out pretty quickly.

If you think about it, some stories are just too far-fetched to have any credibility.

Or should I say former-cop, as was the other one.  If there's one thing that'll get you in trouble in law enforcement, it's lying, or more accurately, perjuring one's self.  If there was an investigation into this latest guy's marijuana use, it would have been done under oath, and if he lied, he committed perjury and was removed from the force for lying.  That's how these things usually work.  (I used to be in law enforcement - but I left because I just didn't care about most of the stuff I was supposed to care about!)

What will it take

To get BillO taken off the air?  The man is nothing more than a complete right wing propaganda machine.  He lies, smears and destroys.  Its the one thing he is good at.  This is beyond the pale.  He is seeking to cause more distrust, dislike and hate twoards lgbt people.  Its complete and utter crap.  The last time I heard something like this was when I heard how Nazis said things about Jews wanting to kill their children and use their blood to make jewish bread. 

Why is it that if he targeted Jews or any racial minority he'd get smacked around but go after us gays and eh its ok?  I'm over being quiet, I am over being still and I am over him being able to smear and slander us with impunity.  There has got to be something we can do?  Who are his advertisers.  Its time to start targeting them with boycots.
