The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

God's Warriors and the homegrown 'Battle Cry'

by: Pam Spaulding

Mon Aug 20, 2007 at 12:00:00 PM EDT

CNN's upcoming Christiane Amanpour documentary on religious extremism in Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, "God's Warriors," airs starting on Tuesday. Right here in the U.S. we have an example of one of those warriors, Ron Luce, whose call to action to retake America from the "virtue terrorists" (gays, pro-choice supporters, etc.) is "Battle Cry," a youth crusade that Amanpour visits at its stop in San Francisco.

Luce screams intolerance cloaked in nifty pyrotechnics, Christian rock music, and big-screen graphics to the teen-packed venue. The evils of secular society and pop culture have forced him to tell his young charges to be ready and "armed with faith, prepared for battle." Luce talks about "virgins being raped on the sidewalks."

Rolling Stone did a piece on Luce and his movement back in April, "Teenage Holy War."

They rise, heartened; the crowd, en masse, swears off "harlots and adultery"; the twenty-one-year-old MC twitches taut a chain across the ass of her skintight red jeans and summons the followers to show off their best dance moves for God.
More after the jump.
Pam Spaulding :: God's Warriors and the homegrown 'Battle Cry'
Someone please tell me how delusional (or cravenly manipulative) do you have to be to put on a show this outrageous:
[T]hese 4,000 teens are about to become "branded by God." It's like getting your head shaved when you join the Marines, Luce says, only the kids get to keep their hair. His assistants roll out a cowhide draped over a sawhorse, and Luce presses red-hot iron into the dead flesh, projecting a close-up of sizzling cow skin on giant movie screens above the stage.

"When you enlist in the military, there's a code of honor," Luce preaches, "same as being a follower of Christ." His Christian code requires a "wartime mentality": a "survival orientation" and a readiness to face "real enemies." The queers and communists, feminists and Muslims, to be sure, but also the entire American cultural apparatus of marketing and merchandising, the "techno-terrorists" of mass media, doing to the morality of a generation what Osama bin Laden did to the Twin Towers. "Just as the events of September 11th, 2001, permanently changed our perspective on the world," Luce writes, "so we ought to be awakened to the alarming influence of today's culture terrorists. They are wealthy, they are smart, and they are real."

Even as he tells kids to swear off pop culture, Luce doesn't swear off capitalism, cashing in for Jesus by making money selling Battle Cry books, t-shirts, and videos.

When you have cult of personality BS going at this level, you know the power over these kids has likely gone to Luce's head. At this rate, how long will it be before he's caught with a hooker, or at a rest stop blowing some guy, or, heaven forbid, molesting an underage kid? It's only a matter of time with folks like this if the current trend holds.

Hat tip, Justabill.

Nuremberg Rallyesque,
in its scale, spectacle, and bloodthirstiness.

Scary

Did they hand out the brown "Battle Cry" t-shirts?

How long will it be before we are forced to physically protect ourselves?  There is a hard right juggernaut being built in this country and few take it seriously.  Draw certain comparisons and you get "Godwined" out of the debate.

things never change

During the Plague years in Europe, the Flagellants became that period's Christian rock stars. They put on big theater by beating themselves, yelling and singing. The spectacle was compelling, especiially for frightened and heartbroken populace.

People gave them money or other gifts or pillage for special prayers to keep the Plague at bay. They colluded with soldiers to weed out those who they considered undesirable. Strong willed women, homosexuals, Jews were brutally executed.

Eventually, the Flagellants got too carried away, they were found out as the drunken, whoring, money grubbing thieves they really were.

The rules of real virtue and modesty, didn't apply to THEM. But preaching IS theater. It's performance, if not high, art.

Illusions or delusions of grandeur will be inevitable. It's just those who claim religion get away with it better, but the aim is the same. Money, fame, adoration and smoke and mirrors.

In the meantime, once the curtain is pulled aside, the weak, insecure and hypocritical will be revealed.

Let it be US....that pulls at the curtain!

Who's financing and helping Luce?

There is a huge amount of money going into these pyrotechnic, rock shows...it isn't being raised selling those t-shirts...so where is the bankroll? as someone who does large event planning, I know this doesn't all happen without teams of queers making money off renting lights, and designing stages, and performing the music, writing the songs. We NEED to know which queers are helping LUCE, and put pressure on them to stop inciting these kids.

I am especially troubled by the age Luce is targeting, youth below voting age who feel powerless and easy to sway to fervent zealotry...and where are these kid's parents?

If you change the targets of these kids and replace the groups of BLACKS, JEWS, LATINOS, CATHOLICS,JEHOVAH WITNESSES, for Muslims, queers, pro-choice, communists.........IT SHOULD MAKE YOU SICKEN, AND YOUR BLOOD RUN COLD.

"

Raised in a broken home, Ron ran away from home at the age of 15 and became involved in drug and alcohol abuse before finding Jesus at the age of 16. The life-transforming impact of Christ inspired Ron to dedicate his life to reaching young people.

After receiving both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in counseling and psychology, Ron and his wife, Katie, started Teen Mania in 1986 with nothing more than a hatchback car and a dream to raise up an army of young people who would change the world.

Presidential Appointment

Ron is a sought-after speaker who has traveled to more than 50 countries and has made numerous media appearances, such as Dr. James Dobson’s Focus on the Family radio broadcast and The 700 Club. Ron also completed the Owner/President Management Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.

In March 2003, Ron was recognized as a national voice on teen issues and appointed by President George W. Bush to the White House Advisory Commission on Drug-Free Communities. The eleven-member commission was established in 1989 to provide input and expertise on the Drug-Free Communities Program.

Ron and Katie live in Garden Valley, Texas, with their three children, Hannah, Charity, and Cameron. "

Fearing the Loss of Teenagers, Evangelicals Turn Up the Fire

*Please Note: Archive articles do not include photos, charts or graphics. More information.
October 6, 2006, Friday
Late Edition - Final, Section A, Page 1, Column 3, 1593 words

CORRECTION APPENDED

DISPLAYING ABSTRACT - Evangelical Christian leaders warn one another that their teenagers are abandoning the faith in droves, and some are organizing youth extravaganzas and rock concerts to bolster teenagers' commitment to conservative lifestyle; at unusual series of leadership meetings in 44 cities this fall, more than 6,000 pastors are hearing dire forecasts from some of biggest names in conservative evangelical movement; their alarm has been stoked by highly suspect claim that if current trends continue only 4 percent of teenagers will be 'Bible-believing Christians' as adults, compared with 35 percent of current generation of baby-boomers; board of National Assn of Evangelicals, umbrella group representing 60 denominations and dozens of ministries, passes resolution this year deploring 'epidemic' of young people leaving evangelical church

Correction: October 7, 2006, Saturday A front-page article yesterday about evangelical Christian teenagers gave an incorrect academic credential for Ron Luce, the founder of Teen Mania, a youth ministry that organizes ''Acquire the Fire'' stadium events. He is a graduate of the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration, where he received a certificate from the Owner President Management program. He did not earn a master's degree from the school.

You mean there's going to be less Pharisees running around in the future than today?  WOOHOO!  The future does look bright!!  Actually, what they are most worried about is their cash cow drying up.  Todays kids aren't buying the "gay or left wing agenda" mantra the Pharisees on the right keep spewing out.  BTW, thanks Petey for the extensive research and info!

toss up
Amanpour cites parents who agree with Luce and are concerned about teens knowing more about Paris Hilton than the Bible.  Those are pretty poor choices, but I'd have to go with Hilton.  She hasn't yet sicked a she-bear on young children for taunting bald men.

I'm thinking of a biochemistry class I once sat in on.  The professor wrote out an equation that included the Laplacian operator.  A student asked what the operator was.  The lecturer said (I paraphrase a bit), "this is one of the most famous symbols in math.  Get to know it, it won't take long.  If you can name the last three American Idol winners, and I'm sure you can, at least commit this to memory." It wasn't as mean an interaction as I've written it, but it stuck with me.

Not that I'm equating the bible with Laplace.  I'd never insult Laplace so severely.  He was after all brave enough to tell Napoleon "I had no need of that hypothesis," ("Je n'avais pas besoin de cette hypothèse-là") as a reply to Napoleon asking why he hadn't mentioned God in his book on astronomy.

Luce reminds me very much of youth pastors brought into our fundy church when I was an adolescent.  These are scary guys.  They're starry-eyed for Jesus, or at least are great at coming off that way.

I also remember them being very physical in a menacing, brutish way. I felt bullied into saying what they wanted to hear.  By that time in my life, I  knew I preferred Dio to Petra and men to women, so I was a lost cause. But, some of my contemporaries really embraced what these guys laid on them.

I wonder if these types believe what they're selling as they're selling it and then push what they're selling to the backs of their minds as they commit sins against their god (anonymous same-sex, drugs, battery, thievery, etc.).  They're even scarier if so (if that's possible).

Electricity's for light bulbs!

A few words about Teen Mania's executive salaries

With all the complaining Ron Luce has been doing lately from the stage of the "BattleCry" stadium events, about how the media and advertisers are working to make money from teenagers, we think it's fair to take a close look at the salaries that are paid to Teen Mania's founder and other executives. Now that he's outraged that others make money off teenagers, it's fair to look at how he, and others in his organization, make money off teenagers.

Pages from Teen Mania's tax return, for the year ending August 2004
Salary information of 'key employees' is on page 4 of the return

With all the complaining Ron Luce has been doing lately from the stage of the "BattleCry" stadium events, about how the media and advertisers are working to make money from teenagers, we think it's fair to take a close look at the salaries that are paid to Teen Mania's founder and other executives. Now that he's saying things like, "you don't want to be manipulated by a bunch of old people making money off destroying you," it's fair to look at how he, and others in his organization, make money off teenagers.

This kind of data can be found in the IRS Form 990 tax return filed by non-profit organizations, which is available for public inspection and can easily be found on websites like that of Guidestar.

Non-profit organizations are required to report the salaries of leaders and "key employees" on the fourth page of the return. Teen Mania reported that, for the year that ended in August 2004, Ron and Katie Luce, combined, were paid $162,000, and the then-Chief Operating Officer, Rick Brenner was paid $180,455. The year Brenner was paid that sum, he was about fifty years old.

Recommendations to ignore BattleCry

    http://www.acquiretheevidence.com/articles/national-response.html

"

This website has never been about recruiting people to counter-demonstrate against these rallies. We have been actively advocating (elsewhere) that people not show up to demonstrate against these particular rallies. This document is here because people are going to show up to do that anyway. There is no one leader of these counter-demonstrations and we are two people and two voices among many.

Teen Mania is at a certain time in its evolution where they have decided to generate publicity to grow their movement, first by going to San Francisco to provoke into existence an opposition where none had existed previously. These City Hall rallies are bait; it is entirely their timing, their framing, and their desire for an opposition deliberately created by their provocative actions and rhetoric. An effective response would be based upon not giving them what they wanted, but instead be an effective counteraction - as opposed to a reaction - on terms other than those set in advance by Teen Mania, and the time and place for that effective response is not at these rallies.

Our advice, and that's all this is, is that people not go out. This advice is not the usual routine of authority figures around the fringes of activism telling activists not to act. One of us has spent the past twenty years as a street activist, and both of us have been going inside Teen Mania's arena events and listening for eight years. Our advice is based on extensive knowledge of this organization, how they're evolving, and thinking strategically as opposed to reacting. Be aware that your mere presence out there, no matter what you say or do, will be used in their propaganda, and otherwise, as validation.

This is from 2006...well ignoring them SURE WORKED OUT SWELL

they f*ck with me, I f*ck BACK!

What have you done today, to make ya feel PROUD?

~Heather Small

Yeah, ignoring them's probably not the way to go

I think we need to undertake a concerted effort (in conjunction with allies) to make this group and others like it absolutely radioactive--so that any mainstream person with any kind of reputation will have it destroyed by association if they choose to have anything to do with them.  Sad to say, it's not obvious to everyone that this is flat-out dangerous fascism, or why it's a problem that it is.

I don't know if demonstrations are the way to go, since the cult-minded loonies love to have their persecution complexes stoked.  But NO ONE should be able to have anything to do with these people and then continue to have any kind of career in the real world.

"Our Liberties We Prize and Our Rights We Will Maintain" -- Iowa state motto

www.acquiretheevidence.com is

the authoritative research site specifically focused on this group, and www.talk2action.org and dneiwert.blogspot.com are the best general resources re: militant Christians and other militant types (Neiwert studies anti-immigrant and neo-Nazi groups as well).

By and large, the most effective type of protest is that of OTHER CHRISTIANS. Feature a bunch of people with giant signs bearing all the peace-praising passages of the Bible, and most prominently, Jesus' Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount/Plain. "Blessed be the peacemakers". Add "Feed my sheep", and other injunctions to help those in need. Scatter in a few "Gay By God" if you want.

The place to recruit protesters is the local liberal seminary. Seminarians just LOVE to hold polite pickets.

The goal of Luce is to turn these kids into political operatives. The kids are told that being a warrior could include canvassing, telephoning, stuffing envelopes, and all the other volunteer chores needed by campaigns. My hope re: this goal is that the kids do a little, realize that it is real work and pretty boring besides, and quit. You don't get to spend a lot of time flirting with the other volunteers, you hit the road and knock on doors in 100 degree heat, getting dissed by people who didn't like being interrupted.

Luce's movie school is intended to make political films in addition to the usual Left Behind part 299 ripoffs. One of the political movies nearly made it to a major network before being cancelled.

[ Parent ]
How about going back and rereading that site?

The article at acquiretheevidence.com never uses the word 'ignore.'  The writers at that site are advocating an effective response that isn't just going to reinforce Luce's influence over those crowds.

And as for how "swell" that worked out, if CNN had bothered to actually dig a bit more rather than reinforce Ron Luce's "war" meme (including Amanpour's stupid comment likening AT&T Field to Sarajevo), they might have noticed that about a month after the event shown in their piece, they laid off 24 staffers, went begging for a few million dollars to continue their campaign (or at least so they claim), and perhaps most importantly, the third BattleCry event in 2007 was downsized a few weeks before it happened, from a venue of about 70,000 to less than 20,000.

Meanwhile, if you actually try to put your ear to the ground and find out what Luce's minions are up to, what would you find out? Well if anyone was actually paying attention when he took his crowd up on the SF City Hall steps a second time, the most important thing they could think of to say is to tell the story of some Phoenix high schooler who with a few of her friends went and whined to the staff of a Spencer's Gifts that they didn't like a bunch of clay figures from China that they were selling, attributing the magical power of "attacking their generation" to those figures - sexually suggestive Christmas ornaments!

That's all the action Luce's "army" could come up with in over a year of trying, despite bribes of exposure of their videos and free tickets to events. That's it.

So, yeah, there is a relationship between what Luce is doing and politics, but there is no mass movement to speak of here. If all that most of the "graduates" of his so-called "Honor Academy" can do is get on their blogs and babble that they're looking for a sign from God to get them a job in retail, then a bit of sober reconsideration of  what Luce and his events are about is in order, and how his actions demonstrate what's acceptable in the broader evangelical subculture that he's playing to. And then a response based on those facts should follow.

[ Parent ]
looks like pop culture to me
luce's rock concert-styled rallies, complete with t-shirt sales, are the epitome of pop culture.  he's practicing what he preaches against.  what idiot parents to not see this and send their kids.

i feel sad for those kids that he's whipping up into a twisted emotional frenzy.  they will look back one day with disgust at their parents for allowing them to be brainwashed like this.  i just hope that between now and then, they don't take the aggressive war talk too seriously.

The more you dig the creepier these folks are

I looked through their Creative Media school, which looks like a sham, they show self serving teen girls of a band, yet it's ONLY 4 girls backstage screaming for this band. They have links to PBS, and the ickiest was these images of Moses army done with lego like toys in which all the women who haven't had sex are spared after a battle, and GIVEN to the warriors 32 of these virgins (God's portion of the virgins are GIVEN to the leader.)

OK this endorses women as property, polygamy, and is close to suicide bombers being promised 72 virgins in Al Qaeda)

Doing this with children's toys is as sick as that Mickey Mouse knock off used in Palestine.

In June 2003, Contreras was appointed to serve on the new Chief Human Capital Officers Council, a government-wide policy planning group comprised of cabinet agency officials. Created by a provision in the Homeland Security Act of 2002, the council is accountable for leading and directing cabinet agencies’ human resources management policies and programs. The Council advises Congress and cabinet secretaries on issues ranging from the modernization of human resources information systems to legislation affecting recruiting and compensation programs in the Federal Government.

Previously, Contreras served as Special Assistant to the President and Associate Director of Presidential Personnel at the White House. As a commissioned member of the President ’s staff, she was responsible for over 1,200 Presidential appointments to approximately 260 part-time boards and commissions throughout the Federal Government during the first two and a half years of the Administration.

Contreras’ knowledge of human resources management stems from her public sector experience in state government. Prior to her White House appointment, Contreras worked in Texas state government for eleven years. She worked for then Governor George W. Bush throughout his term as Governor. From 1995 to 1997 she served as the Governor’s Deputy Director of Human Resources and was appointed in late 1997 to serve as the Director of Human Resources for the last several years of the Administration. Before joining the Governor’s Office, she served as the Human Resources Management Officer at the Texas State Treasury Department.

BattleCryBabies: the new Hitler Youth

1. Ron Luce is creating a Christian jihad that involves teenagers.  Right-wingers complain about the gay community recruiting youth, but think it's alright when church-nazi Luce does the same thing.

2. I was changing channels when I stumbled across Ron Luce's Acquire the Fire show on TBN.  At one of the BattleCry jihad events, the late Gerald Ford was invited to speak about his relationship with God.  I can't believe that a good president like Ford would cave in to Luce's propaganda.  But then again, he pardoned Nixon.

3. About BattleCry's stop in San Francisco...I heard that Luce bussed in kids from the most conservative parts of northern and central California.  That's probably because the majority of San Francisco would never go to a BattleCry event.

Good article on Luce
"

The Two Faces of Christian Fascism

BattleCry keeps this bloodthirsty holy war madness in the closet. You won’t find it on their website and you won’t hear it in their major media appearances. For all his on-stage bluster, and his stacks of books laced with militarism, when Ron Luce debated me on the O’Reilly Factor, he sounded more like a wilting flower, “Well, there are young people all over America and they are realizing that they are caught in the middle of this culture war… They are saying, you know what? We want our voices to be heard. We love the lord and we’re not mean.”

How many of the moms and dads and youth gravitating to the Christian fascists looking for life with a purpose have any idea that the agenda of their leaders is as gruesome, bloodthirsty, and horrible as the hell myth that they are being scared into submission with.

But whether or not you realize what you are signing onto, when you make your pact with Luce and his bunch, you're not only signing onto a brain-deadening fantasy that robs you of your ability to understand and change the world, you end up being led to fight—and shed blood—in a “holy war” for Bush and all he concentrates.

terorize all your classmates....this should be cnsidered inciting to violence
"

Teen Mania, an evangelical group that holds youth crusades in stadiums, says at least 3,000 leaders of church youth groups have bought CD-ROM kits that instruct young people in how to terrorize their schools until each and every one of their peers is either dead, imprisoned, enslaved, or accepts the power of Christ into their lives.

The film is rated R because of the violent torture and mutilation of heretics that occupies much of its two hours. Ron Luce, president of Teen Mania, says children would benefit from seeing it, and the CD-ROM supplies information to persuade parents to allow their children to attend.

"This isn't just violence for violence's sake," Mr. Luce said. "This is what really happened, what it would have been like to have been there in person to experience the Inquisition."

Be A Hitler Youth For Jesus!
"

Be A Hitler Youth For Jesus!

This is getting fucking ridiculous.

The first rock band that performed, Delirious, got the crowd festive and up on their feet with lyrics that were projected on large screens so that everyone could join in: “We’re an army of God and we’re ready to die.... Let’s paint this big ol’ town red.... We see nothing but the blood of Jesus....”

Between musical acts, Luce, the BattleCry founder, hammered away at the dominant theme of the night: his contention that “pew-sitters ... passive Christians ... the Christians who just want love, joy, peace ... ” were the problem, and that the world needed more radical and extreme God-worshippers—those who would be obedient and fully submit to Christ.

Luce would have us believe that everything went off track when the Bible-toting people of my grandparents’ generation were replaced by the “pew-sitters” of the Baby Boom generation. These are the people who, according to Luce, just wanted to passively benefit from the “love, joy and peace” message of Christianity without actively surrendering their wills and their selves completely upon Christ’s altar and working in His name.

Yeah, if only people would stop practicing “love, joy and peace.” Wouldn’t that make the world a better place....

Luce used this critique of pew-sitting Christians to assuage the doubts of the youths at the rally who may have been feeling uncertain about their commitment to the Church. “Don’t worry,” he was telling them, “you’ve been amongst pew-sitters--watered-down Christians. Welcome to the reign of total submission to the Lord.”

This is fascism wearing a cross. The "weak"- those who care, those who want to understand- are scorned. There must be no compromising with them, no attempt to find a middleground. You are the "strong," and to be strong, you must give yourself up entirely to Jesus.

Of course, when the article writer actually calls the organizer, Ron Luce, out on his bullshit, he gives this response:

“Why are you so angry?” he asked.

He's just called compassionate Christians "pew sitters," called for utter Biblical literalism (and blatantly ignored the child stoning, enemy slaying, gay bashing, woman subjugating hootenanny that is a good third of the Old Testament), and told children that they are warriors for Christ and should act as such. Maybe there's a reason we, the Christians who actually follow Christ's message, are so pissed off."

.....

Let me get this straight.....

It's okay for gays to relay messages like this to keep the gay community paranoid.

But any gay person who so much as vocally stands up to these religious psychos is condemned.

The GLBT community is one fucked up cowardly bunch, and I don't even think they're worth defending anymore.

whoops!
In the second sentence, I meant to end it as "condemned by the gay community/the gay community "leaders"
