Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Mervgate continues -- article restored, but altered

by: Pam Spaulding

Sat Aug 18, 2007 at 10:16:24 AM EDT

[UPDATE: Mike Signorile has an excellent synopsis of the whole mess at The Gist.]

Yesterday the editors at the Hollywood Reporter spent a lot of energy fretting over a piece about Merv Griffin by Ray Richmond that confirmed the impresario was gay -- as Richmond worked with the man and it was common knowledge. This obviously raised the ire of industry heavy hitters (and likely advertisers, which would scare any publication) and the Hollywood Reporter pulled the piece, without explanation, and it disappeared from Richmond's site.

Reuters, by the way, ran it as well, but it was also pressured, later adding a disclaimer tag to the story:

"This was a story from The Hollywood Reporter that ran as part of a Reuters news feed. We have dropped the story from our entertainment news feed as it did not meet our standards for news. GBU Editor"
What standard for news did Richmond's piece not meet? Someone at Reuters had already given it the thumbs up, so it must have passed those heralded standards before the irate calls came. That's scandalous on its own.

The article later reappeared later the same day, again without explanation on both the Reporter site and at Richmond's blog (which is owned by the Hollywood Reporter).

Shane at Queer Two Cents took a look at the article once it reappeared, and, doing a side-by-side comparison of the piece as it originally appeared and what's up now. There has been some selective editing of the piece, clearly to soothe some fragile egos out there. Shane has highlighted the additions and deletions to the piece at Queer Two Cents, noting last night:

In his interview with Kevin Allman this afternoon, Ray Richmond gave no indication that he had made changes to his article. At this time it is unclear who is responsible for the editorial changes to Richmond's original text. It's evident that the alterations were most likely made to appease either Merv Griffin's family, The Hollywood Reporter legal department, or both.

...Issues of possible legal action and text additions/deletions aside, the The Hollywood Reporter could have censored Ray Richmond's article, but they didn't. Instead, The Hollywood Reporter's restoration of Mr. Richmond's Merv Griffin article, even its altered form, is a watershed moment for mainstream media - the intent and purpose of the article remains clear; Merv Griffin was not open about about his sexuality - which was his choice, and lived his life in a 'glass' closet, also his choice. Today he was buried, in a 'glass' coffin.

You'd think the matter of an obit about or reminiscence of a public figure wouldn't generate all this brouhaha, but that's what happens when the world outside of the closet is so frightening to people in Hollywood that all sorts of insane measures are taken to reinforce the message is that there is something inherently wrong with being gay.

Eventually..
something like "his heterosexual son from his heterosexual marriage" will be included.

Wierd comments on Ray Richmond's blog ...

People are saying some wild stuff on Ray Richmond's site in reaction to the article. One guy went off on Ray and reemed him for having the audacity to sully Merv's reputation with such an 'outrageous' allegation and then went on to try and I guess elevate Merv's reputation by saying stuff like this (which only proves Ray's point in the first place):

Sean: "Translation: whatever you think that person is about is more a reflection of YOU..."

Sean: "We knew --because some of the Pages ushering the audience in and out of the theatre were hand-selected for their male beauty --to keep the twinkle in his eye ... Because Tony's had to deal with his dad's closeted situation for 40 years ... was a sad little boy when I last saw him ... but the little boy caught in his dad's secret world have to make the best of his situation."

Wow, and you have the gall to say that Ray Richmond was dragging Merv's reputation into the gutter. Your memories of Merv pretty depraved.

Raymond Burr?
Has it ever been established that he was gay or is it still being "debated"?  It seems like that one is still being straightwashed.

My America includes LGBT families.

No debate on Burr in SF press

Unless my memory has gone comepletely wacko, I am pretty sure that Raymond Burr's gayness was handled pretty matter of factly, at least by the press here in the SF area.  He was living nearby when he passed on.  I'm almost positive that they told of him dying in the company of Mr. so-and-so, a "long time partner" or "long time companion".  In fact that was the first time that I became aware that he had been gay

I can't get to the Chronicle obit, but did find this one, which while not having any mention of his homosexuality,  did tell me much more about the man, and made me appreciate him even more: http://obits.com/bur...

That link to the Raymond Burr story
From the IMDB:
Burr's official biography stated that he had been previously married, but both his wives and one child had died. However, these details were fabricated in an attempt to hide the fact that Burr was gay. Only one brief marriage which ended in divorce had actually occurred; the other marriage and the child were fiction.
He seems to have worked harder than most to stay in the closet.  Me being me though, I was more shocked to find out that one of America's best loved actors was a Canadian.  I think that it's probably generational.

Canadian

Yes, it can be quite shocking when someone you thought you knew well comes out as Canadian.

I think that it's probably generational.

The younger generation seems to be more accepting of Canadians.

;-)
