Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Oh Noes! I've Been Banned at Panera!

by: Kathy

(I wonder what other words get your connection blocked... - promoted by pam)

UPDATE: I had requested that my site be classified as "Political/Advocacy Groups", which was the closest match on SonicWall's list.  Instead, it's been designated "Glamour/Society".  I may not stop laughing for weeks -- months, even.  Pam has seen me F2F, and she can testify that "glamour" is not in my vocabulary.

****

During the school year, I frequently find myself at Panera Bread, enjoying a bagel and coffee or a bowl of soup while I avail myself of the free wireless and write without the distractions I find at home.  Yeah, the kids are in school, but there's always that disgusting litter box or a load of laundry calling my name.  Leaving the house means I don't have to ignore the little voice that tells me I should be doing something else.

I made my first foray of the new school year today, intending to complete another chapter of the long-awaited mystery novel.  I got my delicious chicken strawberry something or other salad and connected to Panera's wireless network.  Clicked on my link to the blog (yes, I was procrastinating) and got a message from something called Sonic Wall telling me my site had been blocked.

Because it's been classified as pornography.

Okay, I know my language can get a bit salty now and then, but I don't think even Mitt Romney would consider my writing to be pornographic.  Well, unless he got pissed about that separated at birth post I did featuring him side by side with Bob the Enzyte Guy.  Maybe Birmingham City Councilor Joel Montgomery turned me in because he got tired of seeing his mug shot at the Blues.  Or maybe -- just maybe -- the word "queer" in my URL raised a red flag with the Sonic Wall folks.  I hope that's not the case.

Anyway, I was given the opportunity to challenge the categorization, which I did, and now Sonic Wall has three to five business days to re-evaluate and let me know its decision.  Meanwhile, I guess I'll have to stay home.

gay = porn
Where I used to work we had SurfControl spam filter.  Any mention of gay, lesbian, etc got your email blocked.  It's sad and stupid.

Also for most of these filters...

STD = porn

AIDS = porn

Sexual Education = porn

Breast cancer = porn

etc, etc, etc.

I'm not at all surprised by the blocking.  These filters are never perfect, but what's troubling to me is how much legitimate, health-related information they also block.

Yeah -- I've heard that's a real problem
particularly at schools and public libraries.  I don't understand the need to protect children from information, but the schools in particular live in fear of angry fundie parents.

You Know I had the same thing Happen

I found out the other day the same exact thing happen to my blog... which if you have ever read it left me really scratching my head...

I know Sammy the Surf Dog doesn't spell as well as he should but i've never known him to get pornographic... after all he is fixed.

I'd have to say that one Tag on my blog that reads Gay OBX must be the problem here as well

Well, of course that name would imply dirty pictures.  To someone with a really dirty mind, I guess.  :)

At the public libraries here
in San Diego the filter blocks anything with any sort of gay content and also blocks any political blogs if there is one "obscene" word on the front page.  It will even block sites like CNN and such if one of the stories has whatever word that triggers it.  You have to be 18 and at certain computers (and have the worker turn off the filter for you) for the computer to have any usefulness at all.  Thankfully I don't have to rely on that for access, but many people here do.

panera censorship

i used to eat at panera at least once a week, and often dragged my ibook along. i discovered that Panera blocks alot of progressive websites. i later discovered that they contribute huge amounts of all that $$$ they make off of sugar and butter to the GOP.

i still go there, but only occasionally.

Joe, that's disturbing
I wish we had an indy option here, but so far I don't know of one with wireless access.

Indy Coffee shop?
Look around and see if your city/town has any Idependent Coffee Shops with WiFi.  I would venture that they are much less likely to have such blockers...or if they do, they only block the real hardcore stuff.  I'm pretty sure I saw someone chatting away on gay.com in one of my local shops, and that's not exactly rated PG if you know what I mean.

Right now, my only other option is Starbucks, and
Starbucks charges for wireless access.  There's some talk of taking the whole town wireless, but that would probably entail some sort of screening/blocking software too.  Ah well, at least I was given the opportunity to challenge the block.  We'll see what happens.  I might just have to drink coffee and work at home.  :)

Blocked on R Family
My site (Mombian) got blocked for the same reason when I was on the R Family cruise as an invited speaker and blogger. Quite the shock when I went to do my first post there. I'll hasten to add that it wasn't R Family who did the blocking, but rather the Norwegian Cruise Lines software. (I guess it's hard for software to distinguish between hot and sexy lesbian moms and hot and tired lesbian moms.) I dropped a note to their IT person, though, and she corrected the situation overnight.

Priceless!

"I guess it's hard for software to distinguish between hot and sexy lesbian moms and hot and tired lesbian moms."

I love it!  My tagline is "Suburban Housewife Gone Bad".  I guess the screeners took that to mean something a little more risque than intended.

At least they werent blunt about it

Where I go to school, Allen High School in Allen,Tx, they don't even try to sugar coat blocking LGBT websites. I was INFURIATED when I tried to go to queerty.com and saw a page from websense that read "Page blocked by websense Category: Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual intrest.

-Joshua

That's ridiculous!
But not surprising in Texas.  I bet it's the same here in Alabama.

Its beginning to be a problem for many schools

Especially in the south and midwest.

A number of GSA's have reported that they can't access such pornographic sites as GLSEN or PFLAG.

The worst case I heard was about a year ago. One of the students reported that not only did the school's software block LGBT educational sites, but the school also offered the software, for free, to parents. So half the kids lost contact with anything LGBT related not only at school, but at home as well.

It really depends on which repressed, fundie parent is allowed to purcahse the software and/or choose the words to be banned.

Why else do I come here.....
you think the articles, right? No, must be all the pics of the hypocrits you post. lol

NOT.

Pta, I wish I could take credit
but it's Pam who ticks off the hypocrites by exposing their rationalizations on a national scale.  I have a much smaller audience, but I try to follow her fine example.
