The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Republican San Diego mayor comes out in favor of marriage equality

by: Pam Spaulding

Wed Sep 19, 2007 at 22:30:00 PM EDT

Below is a moving statement from the Republican mayor of San Diego, Jerry Sanders, who not only came out in favor of the right for gays and lesbians to marry (he had supported civil unions/domestic partnership only), he took the step of doing so in a very public way.

On Wednesday Sanders added his signature to a resolution passed by the San Diego  City Council that directs the City Attorney to file a brief in support of marriage equality. He passionately described his evolution to support full marriage rights is based on the simple conclusion -- "separate but equal" is wrong. He also disclosed that his daughter is gay.

San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders Gay Marriage Resolution September 19, 2007

With me this afternoon is my wife, Rana

I am here this afternoon to announce that I will sign the resolution that the City Council passed yesterday directing the City Attorney to file a brief in support of gay marriage.

My plan, as has been reported publicly, was to veto that resolution, so I feel like I owe all San Diegans an explanation for this change of heart.  · During the campaign two years ago, I announced that I did not support gay marriage and instead supported civil unions and domestic partnerships.

I have personally wrestled with that position ever since. My opinion on this issue has evolved significantly -- as I think have the opinions of millions of Americans from all walks of life.  · In order to be consistent with the position I took during the mayoral election, I intended to veto the Council resolution. As late as yesterday afternoon, that was my position.  · The arrival of the resolution -- to sign or veto -- in my office late last night forced me to reflect and search my soul for the right thing to do.

I have decided to lead with my heart -- to do what I think is right --and to take a stand on behalf of equality and social justice. The right thing for me to do is to sign this resolution.

More after the jump.
Pam Spaulding :: Republican San Diego mayor comes out in favor of marriage equality

Sanders continues:

· For three decades, I have worked to bring enlightenment, justice and equality to all parts of our community.

· As I reflected on the choices that I had before me last night, I just could not bring myself to tell an entire group of people in our community that they were less important, less worthy and less deserving of the rights and responsibilities of marriage -- than anyone else -- simply because of their sexual orientation.

· A decision to veto this resolution would have been inconsistent with the values I have embraced over the past 30 years.

· I do believe that times have changed. And with changing time, and new life experiences, come different opinions. I think that's natural, and certainly it is true in my case.

· Two years ago, I believed that civil unions were a fair alternative. Those beliefs, in my case, have since changed.

· The concept of a "separate but equal" institution is not something that I can support.

· I acknowledge that not all members of our community will agree or perhaps even understand my decision today.

· All I can offer them is that I am trying to do what I believe is right.

· I have close family members and friends who are members of the gay and lesbian community. These folks include my daughter Lisa and her partner, as well as members of my personal staff.

· I want for them the same thing that we all want for our loved ones --for each of them to find a mate whom they love deeply and who loves them back; someone with whom they can grow old together and share life's wondrous adventures.

· And I want their relationships to be protected equally under the law. In the end, I could not look any of them in the face and tell them that their relationships -- their very lives -- were any less meaningful than the marriage that I share with my wife Rana.

· Thank you.

Just what I thought.

Caught him playing footsie in a Balboa Park men's room, perhaps.

Sniveling selfish ass.

It’s about way more then YOU Sanders.

Attacking the pillars of our society for special privlages for the self victimized vocal few is WRONG.

What shame. I voted for this guy. He was not my first choice for mayor either, my instincts were right about him.

EFFING RINOS!

Such a shame. He should be intervening to stop his daughter from condemning her eternal soul, instead he is taking a step that will surely lead to more damnation for others.

This makes me physicaly sick. And this is what happens because people cowtow to the deviant activists.

Fan-flippin-tastic

This increases my optimism still further.

I think in the future we'll just wonder what took people so long.

Wonderful!
A great moment to be sure.  Evidence, I think, that if people-- particularly politicians-- are given some room to grow, with pressure of course, they will.  This is a one-way street.  No one will be flipping from pro-equality to anti-equality.

Great News,
  Thank you Jerry Sanders.  I love this quote;

"The concept of a "separate but equal" institution is not something that I can support."

  Arnold, take note!

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

I just sent it to Schwarzenegger

Here is the link to the website:

http://gov.ca.gov/in...

Its not too late.

Also - in case some of you were following the post the other day here at Pams regarding the marriage bill in CA that Schwarzenegger threatens to veto, there was an important chunk of misunformation disseminated via torrentprime's remarks.

I am pasting my late night reply here because it is important to understand that Mark Leno's bill AB 43 does not overturn Prop 22 as was claimed.  I attended the Marriage Equality rally that night and Leno himself explained it quite clearly.

"You are absolutely right (torrentprime) that the CA state legislature cannot overturn a proposition passed by the electorate.  That is why his (Leno's) bill was crafted to fix a different part of the California Family Code.

Prop 22 was written and passed to amend secion 308.5 of the California Family code  - a section that deals specifically with "foreign" marriages, according to Leno.  Prop 22 was created to hop aboard the bigot train started by Bubba Clinton with his DOMA bullshit.

http://caselaw.lp.fi...

Here is text from Leno's bill AB 43:

"An act to amend Sections 300, 301, and 302 of, and to add Section
403 to, the Family Code, relating to marriage."
http://www.leginfo.c...
Here is text from a letter from Mark Leno's office regarding the bill:
"Proposition 22, an initiative passed by California voters in 2000, was
designed to prevent California from being forced to recognize the
marriages of same-sex couples who were married outside of California.
(CA Family Code Section 308) However, that law did not change the
criteria for issuance of marriage licenses within California, which is
the subject of Leno's bill. (CA Family Code Sections 300, 301, 302 and
403)"
Leno's bill is completely legitimate and should be signed in to law.

thank you!
i think it is not widely understood that the bill just passed is indeed legit, even with prop 22 on the books.  and so schwarzeneggar's excuse for vetoing it is fallacious.  i hope he is being taken to task for this lack of reasoning in the CA papers and tv!

Thanks for clearing that up
I sent c ory to Arnold, and to all on my mailing list to do so as well.

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

Wow!

I come home from watching the Padres pull off a ninth-inning win, and I find this news waiting for me. Awesome!

I plan to write Jerry Sanders a thank-you letter tomorrow. He's a Republican, and I didn't vote for him, but I've met him a few times, and he has always struck me as a decent guy with a great deal of integrity. It would be nice if I could use "integrity," "decent" and "Republican" in the same sentence more often.

A lot of the comments I've read on other blogs are expressing surprise that this could happen in "conservative" San Diego. I feel the need to speak up for my city. Yes, its reputation as some right-wing Navy burg does have a historical basis. And yes, the suburbs surrounding it -- like suburbs everywhere -- are still fairly conservative. But San Diego proper has been trending leftward for some time; the city council has a Democratic majority, the DA is an out lesbian, and our two congresspeople -- Susan Davis and Bob Filner -- have solid progressive credentials. San Diego isn't perfect (there is that whole bankruptcy thing, after all), but it's only "conservative" compared to L.A. or San Francisco.

Oh, and that popping sound? Was James Hartline's head exploding.

what's the mayors address?
So we can send him a Thank You.

http://EQFL.org

SEND A THANK YOU.

Email the Office of the Mayor:
JerrySanders@sandiego.gov

http://EQFL.org

That is so unselfish of Mayor Sanders.
It doesn't matter if he's Republican or Democrat, Jerry Sanders did the right thing.  Right now, I am hoping that the mayor could stand up to James Hartline, Allison Smith, and other local homobigots.

I thank not only Mayor Sanders
but I also thank all those in the GLBT community for stepping out of the closet and putting a face to who we are. Your brothers, sisters, sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, friends and colleagues. We would not be where we are now if it weren't for Stonewall. The more we represent ourselves the more we will earn our respect.

A Republican finally getting it ... this is FANTABULOUS!

Wow, that's why we should never lose hope.  Minds and hearts can change.  And they do.  I will send an email of THANKS to the mayor of San Diego.  For this to happen in such a conservative city is simply fantabulous!

Oh and thank you to the person who sent this to Arnie.  Maria should see this too as well as Arnie's LESBIAN chief of staff that should be resign for selling gays/lesbians out for her cushy job.
