Al Gore wins Nobel

Wonderful news

I am SO glad to hear this news. First of all, the impact Gore had with An Inconvenient Truth was immeasurable. It woke a lot of people up, and made others, already awake, more determined to do something. And secondly, his winning the award with the IPCC puts the climate crisis front and center in the MSM which is where it's got to be every day if we are to avert the worst outcomes of global warming.

     I rank this as the most significant political priority, ahead of Irag, GLBT rights, and healthcare.

Freepers

I already had a Republican friend send me an email with the title "I'm going to throw up in my cornflakes".  Rush Limbaugh was getting prepared yesterday(yes I listen now and then) by spouting lies about Global Warming.  I think what we are going to see is an attempt at "swift Boating" Global Warming.  The Republicans are going to cart out all of the 10 and 15 year old studies and scream "See Global Warming does not exist and this study proves it" without telling their listeners that the data is dated.  Limbaugh will outright lie as he does normally to his idiot listeners, the "Dittoheads" who would believe the earth was flat if he told them it was.  There is an old Chinese curse, "May you live in interesting times" and this winter season is going to be interesting.  The Republicans are dying and I'm afraid are going to get more and more nasty in their attacks on the oposition candidates.

GOP is going into full attack mode

Queen Drudge as well as Andrew Sullivan aren't missing a beat in trying to ridicule and diminish Gore's accomplishments. The Conservatives are filled with so much jealousy and bitterness. They despise Gore more and more each time he accomplishes something significant. I know Log Cabin is trying to slime Gore also because they are endorsing Guiliani big time. What a bizarre depraved world these people live in.

GOP was going after the kid's handlers

I think the main criticism was against the Democrats who sent this kid to the microphone with the lie that "Bush wanted to prevent kids like me from getting S-CHIP benefits."  This implies Bush wanted to end the program. This is a lie. The kid was a pawn.  Fortunately enough people saw this, and the demogoguery fell on its face.

Andrew Sullivan is green.

He's long promoted a heavy gasoline tax as a way to wean us off gasoline.  He also supports doing away with an income tax and instead using a carbon use tax.

It's an irony

One man cheats to win an election, has a massive terrorist attack on his watch, ends up squandering the country's fortunes and international prestige and currency, shitting on the constitution, breaking the military, and generally looks like a buffoon, making even Boris Yeltsin look like a calm, cool, collected statesman.

 

One man loses an election, gets involved with the high tech movement, makes one of the most significant documentaries of the century and wins a Nobel Peace Prize. But could we get him to come back to politics?  I know the answer is no.  Who really won that election?  I don't know.  But I can tell you who lost.  We did.

Gore

I'm glad he won, in all honesty it's well deserved.  Personall, I liked the film, I even bought it on DVD.  I've urged my friends to watch it, but I'm always met with that "Al Gore has a $12k electric bill" crap.

But either way, the cause was well presented in my opinion.

He joins the ranks of Yasser Arafat. I'm so proud of him. Now, Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul pretty much ended the cold war by themselves without a shot being fired. And they won the nobel in what year??
