The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

How to blow your campaign, Obama-style

by: Pam Spaulding

Tue Oct 30, 2007 at 06:30:00 AM EDT

And why was a statement like this not passed out at the McClurkin gay-bashing concert on Sunday -- and was absent from Obama's video welcome at the event?

The concert was to be the highlight of this outreach and while the crowd left excited, it was clear the campaign still regarded the controversy as complicated. Aides gave reporters a three-page memo detailing McClurkin's and Obama's views on gay rights that noted in capital letters "MCCLURKIN DOES NOT WANT TO CHANGE GAYS AND LESBIANS WHO ARE HAPPY WITH THEIR LIVES AND HAS CRITICIZED CHURCH LEADERS WHO DEMONIZE HOMOSEXUALS," with quotes detailing those statements from the singer.

The next paragraph then stated "OBAMA DOES NOT AGREE WITH MCCLURKIN'S VIEWS ON GAYS."
Why? Because his campaign feels that any support of the LGBT community must remain on the DL with religious black gays in the South. It's all about the numbers game.
With 90 percent in most elections voting for Democrats, African-Americans are one of the most loyal parts of the Democratic base. At the same time, they differ from the rest of the party in terms of church attendance (more) and support for gay rights (less). Exit polling from the 2004 South Carolina Democratic primary, which John Edwards won, showed 72 percent of blacks who voted attend church weekly, compared to 55 percent of all South Carolina Democrats and 37 percent of Democrats nationally who voted in the general election. According to Washington Post-ABC News national surveys this year, 43 percent of white Democrats support gay marriage, compared to 22 percent of blacks. Around half of blacks, 52 percent, don't support civil unions or gay marriage for gay couples, compared to only 26 percent of whites.
And a sad note about demographics of the vigil, which was no surprise to me.
A vigil that was planned to protest outside of the concert included only about 20 people, almost all white, who held signs like "We are Here, We are Queer, we are voting next year," while across the street long lines of African-Americans, who seemed still dressed for church, waited to go into the event that started at 6 p.m.
The fact that black gays and lesbians were not well-represented in the vigil crowd is telling on two points: 1) not enough of them are out of the closet and political enough to confront their community, and 2) the vigil's composition, along with the presence of openly gay pastor Rev. Sidden, reinforced the idea that gay=white.

[More after the jump.]

Pam Spaulding :: How to blow your campaign, Obama-style
Chris Bowers at Open Left has an interesting post-mortem on the affair. He initially wrote about the Obama camp's moves as a campaign mistake, but now sees the McClurkin debacle not as the undoing of Obama's bid, but emblematic of how the campaign crapped on the progressive coalition most supportive of his candidacy (the "creative class") and now it's drifting away.
If the Obama campaign is not only keeping McClurkin as the headliner of the concert, but also issuing memos defending his views, producing videos endorsing McClurkin before the event, and then allowing McClurkin to emcee the event, it is pre-meditated, not a mistake.

...Why would someone repeatedly attack his strongest demographic, especially when that demographic makes up one-fifth of the national electorate in the Democratic primary season? Consider further how that demographic is heavily oversampled both in New Hampshire (one of the five most secular states in the country) and in the key activist / buzz community of the netroots and blogosphere (which is about 40-45% secular in polls I have seen). Attacking your strongest supports seems like a colossally stupid campaign strategy. It seems like the kind of thing someone does if s/he wants to lose. Not surprisingly, given this tactic, Obama saw his early advantage among the progressive creative class disappear by early August

...Obama has long criticized the left for being hostile to Americans of faith whenever he was pushed on this topic. In fact, he often made such criticisms without even being pushed. As such, there was no reason to expect that his reaction to criticism of choosing McClurkin, or really his reaction to any progressive criticism, would be any different. If Democrats and progressives criticized anything in his campaign that had to do with faith, those same Democrats and progressives would simply be told that they aren't properly reaching out to people of faith. At the same time, he has consistently failed to offer progressives and Democrats any red meat, no matter what Republicans would do or say. This is a clear pattern for Obama. We should have seen it coming.

It's too easy to say this is a battle between the secular and religious, but campaigns try mightily to simplify things. The inconvenient truth is that there are people of color in the faith community who are LGBT. These people are ignored, because for politicians, the complexity of addressing that matter is not worth the political cost. It's about the numbers game, and LGBT minorities of faith are to be tossed out like yesterday's trash.

On the other hand (and there is always the other hand), the homophobia in the black community will continue to flourish as long as SGL men and women remain in the closet -- and silent in the pews -- as hate and misinformation spews from the pulpit. Without visibility, the denial and demonization will continue.

And before the newbies out there start bleating that I'm somehow flacking for Clinton, there's plenty of Blend out there to read that shows I'm not a shill for that campaign. All of the 2008 model Dems have shown great strides in discussing LGBT issues over the pathetic silence and skittishness in 2004. Are any of them where we want them to be? No. But their current positions are light years beyond those of the hard-line bigots and kowtowing flip-floppers in the GOP.

That's why this Obama/McClurkin debacle is so unnerving. Don't expect the LGBT crowd to fork over dough while you court a demographic that foments homophobia (and with it the spread of HIV/AIDS) because of its willful ignorance and fear. The bottom line is the third rail of race is making this all possible

The most disappointing aspect of this whole Obama/McClurkin affair is that Barack Obama, because of his race, actually was best positioned to address it (politically speaking, since we know white pols loathe to take it on, lest they get zapped on that third rail). Ironically, because of the ludicrous questions about his racial "authenticity" from the black community, it appears that his camp cravenly decided that Obama could cleave to the community by enabling its homophobia, rather than challenging it.

That's audacity, all right.

Obama's implosion

I caught a post (can't remember where), that pointed out Hiliary had locked up the black progressive vote in South Carolina, so Obama had to go after the black conservative vote by running with a homophobe to have any hope. This strategy might work in South Carolina, but good heavens, it isn't gonna play in other locales.

With this strategy he plays to the worst racism with white LGBT folks, the worst homophobia with African American conservatives, and mis-reads the multifaceted "black church," which is far more nuanced and diverse than either the media or Obama portray (what would Obama do with a LGBT-affirming AME church?).

Bleh. Stick a fork in him. Obama's done. As Atrois pointed it, he's about the "Audacity of homophobia."

Misdirected rage

As one of the white people who stood outside the auditorium during the vigil, I can tell you that here in South Carolina there are very, very few black GLBT people who feel that they can be out. Instead of dismissing us as "gay = white" you need to realize the harsh reality here in South Carolina. There are many, many white GLBT people who are just as terrified of being out as the black GLBT people. It may cost you your family, your job or your very life. Just ask Sean Kennedy - oh, wait, you can't - he's a white boy who paid with his life in Greenville, SC for just being who he was.

We stood in support of Rev. Andy Sidden and in disappointment with Barack Obama. Yes, we were mostly white, but we were there to represent everyone who is afraid to stand with us - those who fear being vocal, those who feel they cannot show their faces in this state. We may be white, but we stand for everyone, black, white, brown or yellow who for whatever reason cannot overcome their own fear or homophobia and stand with us.

Do not dismiss us simply because we are white or our numbers are small. Instead, applaud us for our bravery because we are the few who will give our true names to the media and talk on camera. (The woman who came and yelled anti-gay slurs at us gladly talked to the cameras, but refused to give her name. What kind of bravery is that?) We are out there on the street for YOU. Instead of bashing us, please support us. Hold us up as examples of how brave one has to be to be out, loud and proud in a place like South Carolina.

I'm quite frankly tired of being criticized on blogs like this for the color of my skin and for the audacity I must have to dare to defend anyone else in my community. I would hope you would take support where you find it - even if it's from white gay people. We are here to fight for everyone in our community, but it gets difficult when all you get is criticized for it.

If you want to vent your anger, vent it at Barack Obama. He's the one with the problem here. He's the one who caused all of this. Take your rage out on him. I'm tired of taking it.

no rage at you

It's the fact that black gays and lesbians are no different than anyone else in that coming out risks all of the things mentioned about PLUS dealing with racial injustice. That's a huge hurdle, and the tragedy is that the black church doesn't see its hypocrisy in supporting the oppression of the black LGBTs in their community.

Visibility does matter, and kudos to those who are willing to pay the price for all to be equal.

Thank you!

You must have felt incredibly vulnerable at the Obama event over the weekend.  I'm impressed with your courage and determination.  Thank you for taking the risk and making sure that his event did not pass without a demonstration of disapproval.

Our community (let alone the damn world) needs more people willing to risk their comfort to promote justice.

Next time, more people might feel like they can protest because of the presence you provided - and it would be even more exciting if the people that showed up to support OUR side were African American whether they identify as LGBT or not.

Thanks for getting the ball rolling....

Thanks

Thanks, Pam and Patrick. The venom on the other blogs have just gotten to me, I suppose. It truly is difficult to be out in this state. There are many people of color in our congregation, but they simply do not feel safe being out. I completely understand so I try to be the best voice for them I can possibly be until the day comes when it is safe for all of us to be who God created us to be.

Coming from the most progressive city in the state
of MO, where even the hairdressers aren't out, I sympathize. And being a Christian means not blurting out the first thoughts that come to mind ("sanctimonious old fraud" comes to mind as a generic term for "preacher","pastor", "bishop" of the evangelical/fundamentalist/non-denom. types). Somewhere in evo/fundy seminary or Bible school they must teach "Homophobia 101: how to grow your congregation and keep the dollars flowing".

[ Parent ]
Fear for their safety

I worked at an HBCU (historically black college/university) and the GLBT group wanted to have a float in the homecoming parade once.  The administration encouraged them not to participate out of "fear for their safety."

Some GLBT black folks want to be out but have no one to support them in this in their community.  Being told you're evil by your church and to be quiet by your family and friends doesn't encourage outness.  A white person can tell them all day long it's okay to be out, but until their own community lifts them up and values them it won't happen.

re. Misdirected Rage
As someone who grew up in SC and had to leave the state, my job, most of my family, etc. I understand exactly what you are talking about. It can be DANGEROUS to be out in SC. Thank you for for representing all of us who could not be there.

[ Parent ]
We all know who this benefits in the end.
And if you think Hillary is going to have the GLBT back, you can guess again. She will sell you out in a New York minute whenever the winds and the polls dictate.  Just remember Bill's advice to Kerry on the gay marriage issue. Bill and Hill are one in the same.   She has to be giddy with joy over this Obama situation.

Yeah we know
But at least she didn't sell us out even before the primaries like Obama did.

You haven't noticed
One of the more important things that a friend of mine pointed out to me last night.

Obama is enabling the destruction of the black community by AIDS/HIV by supporting the homophobia and hate.

As my friend said to me last night: At the rate HIV is hitting the black community, not doing everything they can to combat it is tantamount to condemning the black race.

I wasn't exactly proud of my reply, but I was pissed off enough to actually blurt it out: Well, that'll solve the homophobia problem in the black community when enough blacks are decimated by AIDS.

The reason this pisses me off so much is that I expected more and I expected better from someone else who's been a minority and the subject of other people's hate. I expect them to get it. That's what makes their failure sting so much.

about the numbers
clearly, obama is making his calculations as if what he does in SC will not affect how he is received in the rest of the country.  his 'phobophilia might just get him the votes he needs to be number 1 in SC. but, it will surely sink him elsewhere.  there are too many lgbt's and allies elsewhere who won't turn a blind eye to what he's done.  we're not all on the DL like those in SC.  something tells me that at his next big event, there won't be just 20 mostly-white demonstrators. ...

BS

""MCCLURKIN DOES NOT WANT TO CHANGE GAYS AND LESBIANS WHO ARE HAPPY WITH THEIR LIVES AND HAS CRITICIZED CHURCH LEADERS WHO DEMONIZE HOMOSEXUALS":

Oh, you mean like the time Donnie said "the gloves are off" on the 700 Club, in a direct call to violence against GLBT people?  Or like the time he said "gays are out to kill your children", similar to how Joseph Goebbels tried to convince everyone that the Jews were out to kill their children?

A gay vote for Obama is a vote for being thrown into forced reparative "ex gay therapy", and of course handing your paycheck over to Exodus International, and vile "ex gays" like Alan Chambers, Stephen Bennett and Randy Thomas.

It never occurs to these people

That a gay person may be unhappy not because they're gay but because they're are assholes out there saying we're evil, pedophiles, and murderers.

Crap like that just kinda zaps the happy right out of ya!

And if you're always saying stuff like this to the gays around you, then you won't see many happy gays either.  So, it just reinforces your negative attitude about gays needing to change because they're unhappy.

My mom would do this crap to me when I came out.  She'd get me good and pissed off then say "See, you're just not happy living this lifestyle."  Made me want to scream, which only reinforced her opinion.

[ Parent ]
The low turn out

has a lot to do with the visibility of this issue. Those of us who read blogs such as this one are aware, but the vast majority of people - gay and straight - have no idea this whole Obama dust up is going on. And even some gay people who are aware think it is being blown out of proportion.

I am in the camp that knows that all the candidiates are going to throw us under the bus given the opportunity. The only varience is how many skid marks we will endure.

The Buck Stops With Obama
A little reminder here, this is all Obama's fault. I don't want to hear about how his handlers mislead him. He's running for president and can't be held responsible for his decisions? He approved of all of this, it is HIS fault, his campaign workers are merely his subordiantes. He thinks homophobic bigotry should get a pass as long as it cloaks itself in religion. This is his actual, stated belief, McClurkin just wants to help the "unhappy gays." That is his stated opinion, and people who hold homophobic opinions are homophobic, are they not?

Obama and Hillary, who is worse...

Obama put his foot in his mouth and then shot himself in the foot. He exposed himself as a politican who panders to homobigots and the outrage against him is heartfelt and authentic, but to say the least it's not applied evenly to all Democratic Party candidates.

In fact the apologists for HRH HRC refuse to mention her superstitious dark side and it's dangerous intersection with her politics.

According to investigative journalists at Mother Jones, an antiwar prolabor magazine, Clinton's relationship to the totalitarian christian right is downright scary.

She came to the Congress with huge 'negatives' in the polls because of her association with bigot laws like DOMA, DADT and the union busting NAFTA. The hilarious fiasco of her health care bill, written by insurance exectutives, which died of mortification because it was so poorly crafted didn't help. And we now know that all this was in preperation for her presidential bid. So she did what whe had to, she began to lurch to the right; she never had any intention of supporting samesex marriage, unions, or later, or ending the war.

She associated hereself with religious bigots, joining the "Fellowship' and having weekly prayers meetings with people like Sen. Brownback, Sen. Santorum, Susan Baker, wife of Bush 'consigliere" James Baker, and Eileen Bakke, the wife of Dennis Bakke, a notorious union buster.

It paid off as the right wing not only stopped jumping on her, they began to praise her. Chuck Colson, he of Watergate fame, said that Hillary Clinton, "has a lot of history" to overcome but he sees her making the right moves. One of those 'moves' was to sponsor the Workplace Religious Freedom Act" with Santorum, a noted homobigot, which even Arlen Specter declined to support becasue it protects pharmacists who refuse to sell birth control devices and prescriptions or cops who refuse to protect abortion clinics. She also supported the bankrupt Federal welfare program for religious bigots called 'faith-based charities' which like DOMA, the Republicans used to beat us over the head with.

She continues to support the bigot backed DOMA voted in by Democrats and signed by Bill Clinton. Like all loyal Dixiecrats she says samesex marriage is a 'states rights' issue. In addition she supports the war, the division of Iraq into three colonial provinces, the theft of Iraqi oil by American companies and the extension of the war into Iraq.

Thats why Chuck Closon likes her. Kansas antiabortionist Brownback describes her as 'a beautiful child of the Living God", high praise indeed if you think, as he does, that the Exorcist was a an educational film. That why Rupert Murdoch, the gazillionaire owner of Faux News praised and hosted a fund raising dinner for her. Murdoch puts the 'neo' in 'neo Nazi.' Thats why Pat Robertson, speaking of her presidential bid and subsequent scramble to the right , said "Well she's -- tacking to the right as hard as she can tack. And -- you know Hillarys's got some good points. "

Colson, Murdoch, Santorum, Brownback, Robertson - they know who their friends are, and HRH HRC is one of them, and so are McCain, Obama, Giuliani, Edwards, Huckabee, Richardson, and Romney,

The looter rich much prefer working with Democrats like Obama and the Clintons - they're greedier, they fool more people and they're able to get away with a lot more than Republicans.

Love you're signature quote at the end! Priceless and true!

The Clinton Diversion Train Rolls On Endlessly
Clinton's relationship to the totalitarian christian right is downright scary."

I disagree. She hasn't crossed the line like Obama has. I wish she was a true progressive who wouldn't do any pandering to the religious right, but she's a centrist and she is trying to make herself out to be very religion friendly. And if it does help her get elected, I have no problem with her posing as a "devout Christian" as long as, in actuality, she's reasonably liberal, and will not govern like a theocrat. Obama's the one that scares me, because his commitment to blurring the line between church and state seems like core principle, not just relatively harmless posturing to help himself get elected. And when has Hillary stated that there's nothing wrong with the "ex-gay therapy" movement, as Obama has? He issued a statement that all McClurkin is doing, is helping "unhappy gays." He sees nothing wrong with it at all, unless he's willing to retract that "unhappy gays" crap, which he hasn't. He's never going to admit he was wrong, just like I'm never going to vote for him.

Fact...

We'll vote for who we're left with.

I don't like any of them and know that all of them aren't worth the crap stained underwear on their worthless butts, but it's either one of them or some mindless tool like Fred Thompson.

I didn't think this country could choose a dumber, more ignorant dimwit than Bush, but if we're not careful that's exactly what will happen.

[ Parent ]
Hopefully He'll Never Be Nominated

We'll vote for who we're left with."

When you say "we", that includes me, so please don't speak for me. I agree most Dems will hold their nose and vote for whoever the nominee is. I however, might just stay home if Obama is nominated. The fact is, some people are offended enough by this they will never vote for him under any circumstance. Luckily it's just a moot point anyway, as his candidacy has imploded. Although there's always the danger he'll get on the ticket as the VP candidate, or will get the nomination another year. But some big-name pundits like Kos are saying he's permanently sullied his reputation, and therefore also diminished his political clout.

[ Parent ]
Let me clarify

My thoughts were coming from a long history of blogging experience where I've heard and been told on more than one occasion that as a gay person I need to put aside my own selfish desire of equality for the greater good.

I guess my pessimism has overtaken me.  I've heard far to many gay and straight "liberals" say that we have to settle with what we get that I guess I've bought into it.

Believe me, I'd love to hold my vote and tell Clinton, Obama and all of the other POS Democrats that shove us under the bus to kiss my queer ass and my queer vote, but Christ, I don't think we have any other choice anymore.

It all makes me so damn depressed.

[ Parent ]
Clinton is the enemy...

Clintons love affair with totalitarin christians is not just window dressing, and if you can't see it then Murdoch, Robertson, Colson, Brownback and her other good buddies can. Read the full article in Mother Jones. It's at

http://www.motherjones.com/cgi-bin/print_article.pl?url=http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/2007/09 /hillaryprayer.html

The christian totalitarians see the proof in her call for abstinence, her support for bigot laws like hubby Bills DOMA, for the war, the division of Iraq, the theft of their oil, the invasion of Iran (closer than we think), her bigoted opposition to samesex marriage, her unionbusting, and etc.

I agree, Obama is also an enemy.

Politics are getting a little ripe when you have to measure the quantity of 'lesser evil'  with a nanoliter scale. A vote for any Democrat or any Republican is a wasted vote.

The looter rich much prefer working with Democrats like Obama and the Clintons - they're greedier, they fool more people and they're able to get away with a lot more than Republicans.

Lesbian and Gay Vote Distribution

This excellent article is linked to from DKos. Very impressive. Pam, this is the best explanation yet for Obama's strange behavior.

On Sunday, I did a diary examining where gay voters are and how many there are compared to AA voters. It is a long post, so here is a link:

 http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/10/28/1359/7637

There are over 25 states where there are more gay voters than black voters. Places like Iowa and New Hampshire. In NH it is 5 to 1. In two time zones, Mountain and Pacific, there is only 1 state where there are clearly more AA voters than gay voters: Nevada. California and Arizona are close, but given gays high turnout rate, are more likely to have more gay voters. Montana, Washington, Oregon, New Mexico and Colorado all have more gay voters than AA voters. That's two time zones, over half the area of the country.

The black population is very concentrated in the deep south, Texas and the major industrial states east of the Mississippi. Gay folks live everywhere. And vote at close to a 90% rate.

So, he chases after the millions of black votes in South Carolina by disrespecting gays. What does he do in California or Colorado or Washington where there are more gay votes than black votes? How do you see this working?

Obama Demographics, Etc.
Regarding the Obama  candidacy:

"Demographics" be damned!  Good leaders can change 'demographics!'

'Keeping Hope Alive?'  Time  to get real. There is not enough time to rehab this candidate!  I'm really sorry  about that.  I, myself, had very high hopes for Senator  Obama.

Senator has made a serious  mistake before in characterizing the Gay civil rights movement.  Now, with this  abysmal performance in 'handling' the current situation; mis-step, after  mistake, after mistake after.... well, you get the idea.

He doesn't understand the  black-gay community, the black (church/community) homophobia... or the black  community as a whole, it appears.  Why didn't he just call in Jesse Jackson for  God's sake!  Sooooooo...

NO!  No more of this!   Democrats and progressive liberals must now reject Senator Obama.  We cannot  'reform' the man that has shown, now, that he does not really 'get it.'  I had  great hope for Senator Obama.  But he has made too many mis-steps.  And this  last shows he's not really in touch with either the Black community OR the Gay  community... or his own campaign for that matter.

No, don't tell me about his  speechwriters, handlers, consultants or advisors.  The buck stops on Senator  Obama's desk and he has not come through and shown that he really understands  the issues.... much less the solutions.

"I don't take 'em to  train!"  Time to discard this candidate and move on.................   Next!

I am a
white gay male and grew up on Hilton Head Island, SC and went to The Collge of Charleston. I was out the entire time I lived in Charleston and never had any issues.  Charleston is such a global tourism magnet it draws a diverse crowd. The only other safe area may be in Columbia around USC. The fear closeted gays feel in most of the state is very justified. Black LGBT's have a double burden of dealing with both racism and homophobia. Obama knows this and figures since we are a minority he can dropkick us and pick up the much larger 'phobe vote. It sucks but no pol is pure. It's called politics. Not idealism. We are mostly like going to be stuck with Hillary anyway. And despite my differences with her she will be a great president compared to any Republican.

Very Disappointed with Obama

I am not sure that I do support him any longer.

http://www.americablog.com/2007/10/obama-supporter-im-not-in-mood-to-play.html

Above is a link that I am sure you aware of the surrounding controversy. While it is extremely disappointing to hear a Presidential candidate state publicly that these matters should be left up to individual states (had that been true in 1969, maybe in some states today, black and white would not be allowed to marry and in others they could) and only cover federal approvals of a "holy union" or "domestic partnership" (is that like having a domestic cat?).

I really WAS in his corner until he allowed this bigot to not only perform but also spew more of his lies and hatred, attempting to convince America that some of us are not happy they way we are. The only reason any of us arent happy is because of morons like this who try to play on the weak and make them feel some shame or humiliation for something that they were born with. Those who are unhappy are so, because they have been convinced that something is wrong with them by idiots like this who will not promote acceptance and love. No wonder so many of our brothers and sisters end up in a whirlwind of drugs and multiple failed relationships- we have no support system whatsoever out there, just hatemongers like this. Those gay couples who do survive deserve a medal and more privliedges than any straight couple enjoys.

Hillary will probably get my vote at this juncture, at least she is being honest and not showing support for this communities enemies. Pandering to a group of religious freaks in a nation that is supposed to separate church and state is just wrong. What we need is a leader who will lead by example, and be strong in his or her truths. One who will speak up for us and tell others why we deserve equality, not just side stepping issues and trying to "agree to disagree". We need a President who will set the standard and expectations of fairness and do so openly and honestly.

In the meantime, I wonder how many who witnessed the concert were negatively affected such as questioning youth contemplating suicide once again due to rampant unacceptance and knowing inside they cannot change who they are, or how many little "christian soldiers" felt inspired to gay bash, attack, or insult another of our community.  All thanks to Mr. Obama's eager goals to kiss up to a portion of our country that deserves no place in politics to begin with. Im deeply disappointed as I expected more from this man.
